I think people still don't understand how good the f10 platform is luxury wise. The ammount of value that car gave with full price (from the 520d to the m5) was already astonishing, 550hp + that platform + all the goodies the car comes with as standard, is just fckng crazy.
Lol. "Affordable" Try owning one and maintaining it. "Affordable" is the last word that will come to mind when paying the insurance as associated costs.

Had my m5 18 months had no ‘associated costs’ you’d be surprised how realisable they actually are
Simon Wearn I was thinking of getting an M5 F10. I was terrified of hidden extra costs. I was thinking a 64 plate.
What is it with people who want these cars but are not prepared to maintain them? These are premium cars. They're expensive and they cost money to maintain, especially if they are tracked, abused etc. which wears out parts quicker. That's just a fact of life.
No wonder these cars have a poor reputation when people buy them but have no plans to maintain them and keep them in reliable running condition.

Adrian Navarro rolling yes, but torque is a differential of the gearbox and it’s ability to put the torque to the pavement at a specific rpm. More torque doesn’t mean faster car.

Gggg Ffff Think about the torque at the wheels... with a max RPM of 8250 rpm, the M3 can use a lower gear for the given speed, rather than the m135i out of puff at 7000 rpm, so torque is still greater in the M135i but the deficit is reduced slightly. At the crank is not always by the book when comparing vehicle acceleration.
Power is usually the best way to gauge acceleration in terms of gearing loss and gains, as HP ratings take RPM into consideration I.e. Power=Torque x RPM

M135i needed to be a EWG car with a JB4 and Zf box. This PWG/Birds/Manual car has let all us M135i owners down

Loving the Birds M135i. Could we see more content with it? I’ve been reading about it but would be cool to see a nice fully featured video about it . Great video. The M135i gave the M3 a run for its money. The M5 is a savage power house!

That M135i for the purposes of a drag race is a £17k car with a few hundred quid JB4.
There are companies who offer kits to take it past 550hp for a few grand.
It's also a manual which will take a bit out of it next to a pair of dct's.

I know the 1 series is a great little hatch and the E92 M3 is a favourite of many, but my heart belongs to the M5. I just love it! One of my favourite BMWs and one I would love to own.
Have you driven one? Apart from the power its horrible, its so isolated from everything when driving. Worst M-car Ia have driven. E60 was an icon with its engine, F10 was a horrible disappointment for me.

Quite right. But also I think the M135i not being an auto hurt it in a drag race.

An M1 is about 30 years old. A 1M is not as fast in a straight line as an M135i auto. If they used a JB4 equipped M135i auto it would have killed the M3. Why use a manual against 2 autos. Birds conversion is awful for speed. Good handling.

It is not a real M lol just cuz it can keep an e92 in its sights? Do repeated laps with both cars. Watch how insonsitant and slow the laps get when youre om it for a bit. The feel of the car and much more just are not at m level. It is a fun car no doubt ive driven few 135s very small nimble but not up to e92 level of performance or driving feel anywhere.
They should have brought in a jb4’ered M135i with a zf... think the result might have been different...

JB4 sports exhaust and an auto box would have dusted the M3.
Change it to an M140i with a jb+
Then chuck a map on the m5 too. 700hp and youre back to watching it walk away from the other 2 again.
Love all three but very odd result, especially when my stock m135i runs 13-13.2 1/4@108,

My E92 has actually been pretty reasonable to maintain. I do resent paying for the warranty though, but needs must 😂
Adam you are about $3k to high...but they are more than most luxury brands. That's why so many aren't 100% fixed, most fix the exterior and make sure the drive-line runs...but the cup holders are broken, can't read the radio as the pixles are missing, A/C vents or Window regulators are broken, LOL.
I'm surprised when I see an older model and ALL the Lights work;-)

I am really impressed by the M135i, especially that it has a manual shift...
the guy with the 135i obviously didn't watch Fast and Furious 1. It doesn't matter by how much you win (3 car lengths). A win is a win (you got spanked boy)
The m5 such a beast .. just look at it. Still better looking than most modern cars in my opinion.

A late (with oil starvation issues sorted) E92 for me. The allure of the v10 M5 for a similar price needs to be offset by it costing you nearly the same again to fix the engine when it gives up - notoriously unreliable.
You have to love the bimmer.
Perhaps the M135i would have been closer or maybe even pipped the M3 had it been an auto?!

So what, there's more to enjoyment than straight line speed, handling and a naturally aspirated engine are key, so the e92 M3 any day.
The F10 M5 is very solid, as regard engine and transmission. So not necessarily such a disaster in terms in maintenance, apart from consumables.
BMW M3 S65B40 overall fairly cheap to run but one rotors need to be changed or some suspension compnents well i might take back what i said about it being fairly cheap lol.

You are right they really are not that bad. But when you abuse them it will cost you. I bought new a 2006 M3 as a daily beater till 2015 traded it in for a new M5 still a daily beater. My M3 over 9 yrs I spent 10k, the M5 still warranty but have replaced tires at 1700.00 US dollars
To the tuned 135 vs not tuned: plenty of videos online of 135is with that much power racing m3s. Its manual vs dct too.
Also to the driver of the f10 thank you for having a brain👌the guy sees o i wont have much grip in these conditions better shift to second right away. Every other car reviewer drag racing the m5 just pins the throttle wheels spin and then they complain how they end up setting a mid 12 sec 1/4mile when the car should be doing like 11.7.

Thanks for the movie I watched it and I saw the race. Remember I am from south Africa we get these cars here but remember in johannesbug we live high in the mountain where thin air is the odour of the day. In other words the M3 will loose to the M135i but my M5 will remain kink of the mountain.

Got any test links? I'm not sure about Euro spec cars, but BMWs sold in the USA are SLOW, same way GTR's are slow on the track here. Competition package F10 M5 only ran 11.9@122.2 mph when Motor trend tested it....much slower than the AMG E63 S.

The M5 is fast in a straight line but even my £5k megane R26 makes it look like a silly on track. Such a cumbersome boat.
Also, it's pointless comparing a manual to a modern auto. One is faster, the other is much more fun.

I have an 2011 E92 M3 and I would NEVER change it to M5 F10. The latter might be the fastest M-car I have driven but it also is the worst M-car I have ever driven. Steering feel is zero, you dont hear the engine and you dont feel the car.
Why did the M135 lose against the m3 besides it has more torque?
1. the gearing of the manual is far too long for a hothatch. Compared to the DCT of the M3 it's about 30-35%
2. m135i is manual without any launch control so it looses a "lot" of time
3. It is ugly af.

4- Even in manual an e92 m3 with a v8 reach 190kmh in 3rd gear .. your vaccum cleaner turbo have to change gear at 6000rpm while a naturally aspirated one scream at 8400rpm .. quick maths
karim lazialle M135i revs to 7 grand mate. An auto M135i is like having an extra 70bhp. that auto will redline all the way to 7 grand through every gear. So behave yourself.

iv got a m135i with a vargas hybrid big intercooler and few other bits i know that race would be difrent out come i cand pass m5 and a f80s m3/m4 but i push them all the way for not that much over all i spent less buying the car and the mods than most f series m models and amg for that mater.
also birds are more about the track
I have a 135i with a map on it and my mate has the same car with a map from the same company. Mine is an auto and his a manual. There is a big difference when we race. The auto is faster and by a fair way. It really supprised us tbh.
F10 m5❤️ M3 is nice also but need G- power compressor to match M5
That M135i isn't tuned to it's optimal potential, 450 hp will do just fine to spank an E92 M3.
I was just thinking that, if they really spent 7k on mods and it still got left behind by a stock M3 then they got burned big time. That N54 engine can do 600hp+ on stock internals for heavens sake!
But then you could tune the M3 to beat it right back again.
What?? The S65 is no where near as tuneable as a N54. 335i w/ a N54 can spank an M3 with like a 500$ tune. Those motors can do 500whp with stock internals.

If money were no object maybe, but in order to convert the M3 V8 to turbo you would be looking at way more than a 25k spend. My point was that the N54 turbo motor can make seriously big power with only marginal spend. A complete rebuild is not necessary. When he said the 135i had 7k spent on it I laughed because it clearly wasn't on the engine. I think all they did was give it a remap. 7k spent on that engine can put you in the 800-900hp region.

Why would anyone want a tuned 135 over an e92 M3? It’s got a true Motorsport enigine with awesome throttle response and sound, and in 5-10 years I think the resale values will go in completely opposite directions.
The M135i is waaaaay cheaper to own than the M3 thats why.
I own an e92 m3 and its probably the most reliable M car ever. The M135i on the other hand has literally the most unreliable engine bmw has ever built.
Both have reliable engines stop talking shit, the M3 is getting old now thats why it's getting unreliable.

That's my M5, in the video veteran of over 500 laps of the Nürburgring. It's completely stock, but with a BMW M Power Ackrapovic exhaust, an original option on the car, and a BMW M limiter removal done by BMW M in Germany , also an original option on the car. I love this thing!!!! :)

I think that would be because it's a manual. It dropped back during gear changes I think. For drag races you want an auto., but I like manuals.
