At retail, Daytona. At grey prices, the AP
Ahmed Helmi Hardly any APs in the grey market. In fact due to scarcity of the newer Royal Oak a black market for APs with substantial markups of the list price is what we have now. And for some reason the older model has sky rocketed to sell at even higher prices than the newer ones (2017 onwards)
I’d take the AP every time. AP are incredibly gorgeous!
There both outstanding. Nice video mate
I've owned a Daytona for the longest time and just recently added an AP Chronograph 39MM to my collection. Have not worn the Daytona since. I find the AP is much more versatile, it looks fantastic with a suit or dressed down with jeans and a polo. The Daytona is more industrial in it's look but the AP is what I call "understated excellence". While most will immediately recognize the Rolex, it takes someone who is into watches to know and appreciate the AP. The comment I typically get with the AP is..."wow, that's really nice, what is that".
The AP is superb but the Rolex is calling out to me
I can’t bring myself to like the APs. Maybe if I saw one and tried it on. The bezel screws seem so ‘80s style to me. I do agree about the date function though.
I think out of the two, the AP is a much finer watch but boy, do I want to add a Daytona to my collection.
Hi Dylan, I recently bought the new 38mm AP RO Chronograph. I think the 38mm is just perfect for my 6.4 inch wrist size.
Royal Oak is a true work of art
Great video mate! AP all day, although I prefer the cleaner non-chrono versions (in 41mm)… true art and timeless! Comfortable too. This and my 42mm Offshore Diver (on the SS bracelet) are my favorite daily wears.
2 outstanding pieces, the Rolex would be the best for everyday wear, but just so many around. AP is a work of art, a piece to make u feel special and privileged to own and wear one, nothing else looks like it. PP Nautilus looks ugly in comparison.
Great Video
Hands down I’d go for the AP. I can’t wait to get a non-chronograph RO with white dial in steel
nice video , ap obviously more beautiful for me but like u say if consider about the value first, should go for daytona, but for beautiful and eye catching piece, I think should go for ap
I was put on the waiting list for the new ceramic Daytona. So I bought a Zenith movement Daytona and love it! I wish I could afford an AP but Rolex is just fine!
very wonderful details
Difficult decision. I’ll probably choose the AP. Looks more exclusive in its design. Daytona has more lookalike watches.
I agree..
The Audemars Piguet just dwarfs the Rolex here...
Overseas
Vacheron Constantin lol
In the end of this month I can receive blue one!😆
That's a great comparison and I tend to agree with everything said here, I think the question should be not Daytona VS ROO but how can I own both LOL, and add to that the Nautilus. If I could own all three I will die a happy man :)
its not an offshore though... nice try
Lol hahaha!
I am a happy man
I am a fan of the AP bracelet... it is redolent of late ww2 tank tracks... Gerald Genta must have been a Panzer fan!
Out of interest, what would people choose, a PP Aquanaut or a Royal Oak 15400 steel?? Similar prices....
chiller1012 RO 15400ST
AP for me all day Long. They are just beautiful . They have just something that Pops.
The AP dial always remind me of a sewage lid cover
Daytona. I own the black dial SS ceramic Daytona, but now I'm thinking I want the white dial version.
Dylan, you make the best watch videos hands down. I just bought my 8th Rolex since May last night (direct from my AD, as with all of my watches). I'm a bit obsessed with watches and, thus, watch videos. ;) Last night's purchase was the Batman. 7 of my 8 most recent purchases are very hard to find watches (at least hard to find from an authorized dealer)...but not hard for VIPs. It's funny because the one that's not hard to find is the most expensive in my collection from a retail perspective and worth the least from a grey market perspective. That's my wife's watch. ;) I'll have to give you a shout the next time I'm in London!
@Khan Hossain I'm in the tech industry. My wife and I have done well for ourselves, so purchasing these watches wasn't a huge deal from a financial perspective. As for my wife, she is the most awesome lady in the world and she just wants me to be happy. ;)
@Khan Hossain I have averaged more than one a month over the last 6 months. As for your other question, quite the opposite. My wife and I come from very humble backgrounds. We are self-made. We actually send our parents money. It's pathetic!
@Khan Hossain I'm the latter. ;) I won't buy one a month forever. That's just kind of the cadence I've been in. I have purchased eight in just under six months. There are three or four more I plan to get as soon as my dealer can get them, and I also want an Omega from another dealer...then I should cool off my watch rampage a tad. ;)
@Khan Hossain BTW, you can subscribe to my channel and get video updates on my watches if you like.
Great video. For me the 116500 every time.
Always ap is the best
I don't know what it is, but the Daytona is just irresistibly appealing, whereas I seem to be forcing myself to like the AP. I think the Daytona just oozes with charisma.
👍👍👍👍
Daytona all day only because I own one lol wouldn’t mine that AP tho
Daytona
All being equal I think Rolex will fit me better. But to get a Rolex you have to buy a second Rolex which is ridiculous. So I think I will get the AP but in the 38 mm
The Daytona wears smaller than 40mm.. it’s actually only 38.5mm, PM versions are 39.5
About to flip my white gold Oysterflex Daytona because its way too small..wears like a dl36
AP everyday over the Rolex. Rolex is have no chance against the AP.
Talk to me when an AP fetch 10 million plus in an auction.
Brian Hong Amen. Rolex Daytona all day every day.
I’m appalled at the idea of comparing almost any AP to Rolex. Rolexes are just hideous.
Brian Hong How about you get back to us when Rolex start making Tourbillons or a watch that doesn’t look as cheap a 50$ Swatch or Casio 😆
@@ihatepotholes Over $17mil to be exact...
I really like the RO, but I like to change straps. I prefer the Patek Aquanaut over the RO. I have a Daytona fantastic watch.
White or Black Daytona?
Black
I have the black stainless steel ceramic Daytona and thought I liked that better but, after going over my collection, I started thinking I need a white dial watch...so I started looking at the white one more. I really think it looks classy and I like the contrast. So, in my opinion, you can't go wrong. ;)
White
Jonathan Spencer White pops way more than the black. Just don’t wanna pay a ludicrous amount for resale.
Feel free to FexEx me both.
The only AP I'd consider is the rose gold perpetual calendar Royal Oak.
Someone has deep pockets 😆
I prefer the platinum Grande Complication 🧐
Rooooolex....!
The screws in the bezel are a huge turn off. OMG.
AP obvs!
Little too much downplay on the rolex bracelet. Understandable that the AP one is better, but jeeze lol
Not really... the Rolex bracelet is extremely boring and insignificant to say the least. Even more so in real life...
Is it worth it to trade a Daytona to this AP RO chronograph?
For me the answer is clear as day. But you need to make that decision on your own. Many things factor in such as aesthetics, resale value, availability... As I understand from your question you already have a Daytona, and I would strongly suggest for you to try and fiind the RO in a boutique somewhere and try it on before making a final decision.
jimmyjay122
Thanks so much! You’re right. I have to try it on and even if I would like it, Daytona is a Daytona. Resale value is up. I appreciate your time.
There is no comparison. Rolex is for the mass
I’ve tried several times to buy a Rolex just for the name. And when you spend enough time looking at all the pictures and watching all the videos you somehow develop an attachment to the watch(es). Yet Rolexes have proven, time and again, from my experience to be a huge disappointment when you see them in real life and try them on compared to what they look like in pictures and/or videos. They just feel extremely cheap and insignificant. 1st time I went to get a Rolex I ended up getting an Omega. 2nd time I ended up getting a Breitling. Both times I just couldn’t bring myself to buy a watch that was so... bland and that felt so cheap just because it was a Rolex. Don’t even get me started on the hollow link bracelets which they have thankfully stopped making not very long ago. Mind you I’m only talking about steel watches as I hate yellow & rose gold in both watches and jewelry. A Rolex enthusiast friend of mine pointed out the Yacht Master II. And again the disappointment continued in real life compared to the pictures and videos.
And finally after having my name on the waiting list for about a year I received my AP RO. The watch was sold out I wasn’t even able to see it in the boutiques before mine arrived and to be honest no matter how good the videos I’ve seen online of this watch none of them do it any justice. It is just a work of art. Not to mention the history of AP. And even though I really appreciate the effort of making this comparison video i think it’s unfair to compare 2 watch makers that are not quite in the same league.
I have the Submariner ceramic 116610 and recently purchased the AP Diver 15710.OO.A010. Even though the Submariner is “The Dive watch”, the Audemars Piguet Diver is miles ahead of the Submariner in terms of finishing and refinement. There is no comparison. AP Royal Oak Offshores are masculine jewelry pieces while Rolex Sports watches are pseudo tool watches
Tbh Dayton.
Man does he hate the Daytona!
(I own both but the Daytona is my work horse!)
AP is a different level to Rolex much finer watch.
Rolex is reliable strong but every second person can afford a datejust Rolex.
Ap is not affordable for everyone. Based on quality Ap wins all day long.
Based on Hype Rolex.
So I pick Ap.
My Daytona seems small on me, 7" wrist. My ROO looks much better.
They really fucked up the royal oak 15500
It just came out.
Wana hear ur thoughts.
Thanks
Daytona for sure. The only APs I like are the Offshore.
1st
I sold my Daytona soon after I got it. It just didn't live up to the hype. And the lack of anti-reflective coating was a deal-breaker. You can see in the video several times when the Daytona is completely illegible. It is more like a signaling mirror on the wrist than a watch.
The daytona looks so funny? That's real?
jackyyeungkit 😆😆😆 yes unfortunately it is. And if you ever get a chance to hold one you’ll be shocked at how cheap and insignificant it feels. It actually looks much better in photos and videos.
Ap for me
Rollie.
Only rolex I like are the daydates. Everything else is meh. So I would pick the AP
The AP is way cooler. Btw Rolex doesn't make "couple of millions watches a year" ;)
At least 800 000 because this is the number from the COSC.
These watches aren’t going to change your life unfortunately!
they can actually
For a Chrono, I would first choose a Vacheron Constantin Overseas, then Daytona, then Carl F. Bucherer Manero, then Omega Speedmaster, then Tudor, ...............then the AP....
Great video as always, thanks!
... Rolex Daytona looks, kind of ugly.
i d buy 1000 chinese replica watch than 1 ap or 1daytona
The Rolex looks like a cheap replica of itself next to the AP.
Since Daytona is only available at twice the retail price at grey market, buying it is completely nonsense for me. I hate Rolex wholeheartedly lol.
AP packs much more for the price.
Owned both, Rolex is technically far superior. And Rolex does not make “millions” of watches a year. Put that AP next to a nautilus it’s about 2 levels below PP’s level.
Brian Hong Agree Brian and the more important question is how many Daytona’s do they make a year? Not many.
Daytonas are still ugly AF 😆 not unlike most Rolex watches... the watch of the nouveau riche.
In what way is it “technically superior”?? Please, enlighten us 😆
What in the world are you talking on about? If for some enigmatic reason you put AP RO 2 levels bellow PPs Nautilus, where does that put the Daytona?? 6 feet under 😆😆
Khan Hossain the Nautilus is a Patek Philippe. And there is nothing putting it 2 levels above the Royal Oak. Not technically and certainly not aesthetically.
AP is King! Daytona is total junk!
