A good friend of mine has said many times that there was an old saying in radio. What makes someone a good personality on the air doesn’t necessarily make them someone you want to bring home to mother. I think that totally is the case with many rock icons. What makes some capable of producing great music doesn’t necessarily make them great people and the people that you’re referring to in this video certainly fit that.
The Hall Of Fame is just an exclusive little clubhouse. It really won't make any difference if Wenner goes back - it'll still be irrelevant to anyone with an IQ above six.
I don't ask my plumber how he feels about current politics, and I expect the same from the musicians I listen to. As for Rolling Stone magazine, I haven't read an issue since the 1990s.
Another great, informative video as always Michael. I feel like Dylan should reconsider his public statements regarding Jan Wenner, being seen as supporting such an appalling person; isn’t too good for one’s reputation.
When politics enters music it can be a big turn off for me. I was a pretty big fan of Van Morrison the last few years, ever since (finally) listening to Astral Weeks about 6 years ago. After his recent albums with songs like "No More Lockdown", "They Own The Media" and "Why Are You On Facebook?" That last song is pretty funny considering Van has an official page on there... At one point I had about 20 of his albums, and now I have 2 of them. I also don't care for Ted Nugent's politics, but I love some of his early solo albums (Free For All, Ted Nugent and Cat Scratch Fever) but I no longer have his music in my collection either.
So their politics don’t match yours, okay. On the other hand, I still love Van’s music. Never been into Nugent. Take politics out of music, maybe. Not fond of Springsteen or U2 for that very reason; why turn off half the Country and then complain when people aren’t buying your music anymore. Make it generic rather then personalise your music to attack someone or other people you disagree . Thanks

I agree with everything you said about this topic. As for the Rollingstone Magazine, it seems to have lost its relevance since most of its original readers are now old or dying off. It has struggled in recent times to find a new audience in millennials and generation z along with the decline of rock as a dominate music form. Yes, you can like an artist's music without liking the artist. One person whose music I liked more than the person himself was David Crosby. I'm not a fan of Eric Clapton anymore, not even his music - his racist and anti-vaccine comments are stupid, and let's face it, most of what he's recorded since 1975 or so is MOR/pop music. I would also agree with Graham Nash on Van Morrison; musically great but not likeable as a person.
Chrissie Hynde is one artist that I love the music but can't stand her. She was an angry young woman but is now just a cranky old one. I recently saw an interview with her and Stevie Nicks and she just sat there ranting on about everything. I wanted to say STFU!!! LOL
2:52 Could you do a 15 bands shunned and kept out of that stupid hall by Wenner video? Feel free to EXPAND (or contract) it. I think what really put ROLLING STONE rag on the map was their photo and essay coverage of the Altamont "Festival" at a time when NO paper thought it was AT ALL important! They all were caight with their Avant Guard down!
I heard from a local rock DJ that George Thorogood is a real jerk in person. Still like his music. Same with Ted Nugent. Kid Rock? Hate him and his "music".
On my list I would definitely put Roger Waters and Don Henley. I love their music but don’t appreciate what I know ( or think I know) about their personalities. But many genius artists…in music, in art, in literature have been, to be blunt; a**holes. You can respect their contribution to culture without thinking them likable. To not be able to do so would rob you of the pleasure of exquisite creations and their contribution to society and culture. Imo.
I have no problem with seperating the music from the person, with the exception of Michael Jackson. Why, Michael? Well because he was very much a videoclip star and his creepiness was so clearly to be seen, but I digress. Why, do I have no problem? Because I have never been interested in the political feelings of Pop/Rock/whatever stars.
I agree with Bob Dylan being the greatest rock songwriter. Look at all of the great songs he wrote on his albums. Plus all of his great outtakes. No one in rock can compare to that. Not even Paul McCartney. But, he's close. As for the #15 vocalist. That's honestly about where I'd put him. Not technically the best vocalist, but when a song of his comes on, you immediately know it's him. And, how many vocalists can keep you interested for many 10+ minute songs? As for Jann Wenner and the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame, I think it's better to keep him out. He supposedly had a lesser role as of late, anyway.
If you're not in the club you don't get compliments. Ritchie Blackmore tells the truth they hate him. He's the dick not them lol. He's as good as all of them. He hates them they hate him. He admits there is a club. He said he don't wanna be in it.😂
I'm a big fan of Don Henley's songwriting and vocal ability, demonstrated both with Eagles and as a solo artist. He's an incredible talent but he comes across as a not-so-nice guy with a big ego. Sometimes you need that to be "successful" I guess. I will never tire of his music but have no desire to meet the guy.
Yes, it is absolutely possible to be a fan of someone's music if you don't respect them as a person. For example, for me, Phil Anselmo (Pantera/Down). I know people who love KISS but hate Gene Simmons, and of course don't forget fans of Varg Vikernes (Burzum), they really have to seperate the art from the artist on that one. But, I would say that Ian Watkins is a big NO for me, but I never met anyone who like his music even before he was convicted.
Dylan, imo is not socially slick. I love his crazy ass sick lyrics. But the Wenner thing is ridiculous. An exclusive club that dont need to be. I dont compare artists. I prefer Lennon.
My dad is more articulate than my mom. That's not a fact, of course, but an opinion. But it's also the truth. Are you going to incorrectly assume I am sexist? You wouldn't if you knew me well. A lot of people also "think" Dylan's song "Just Like a Woman" is sexist. 😂
i am a fan of people, doesn't mean i would want to be around them. i love iron maiden, drummer nicko mcbrain seems like a nice giy to mean, though am not a golfer. love the who. wouldn't want to spend time with keith moon. have liked a few ted nugent songs, rush has said he was nice to them as an opening act so he gets points. his opinions. ugh. would not see him for free, no desire to listen to political speeches. not even if i agreed with the opinions.
I'd add two to your list - which is spot on IMHO. Jim Morrison and John Lennon. Don't think I would ever have wanted to have met either one. I'll let their music do the talking.
Dylan by far hands down is the best song writer in rock & roll. The best Vocalist is Jon Anderson. Rolling Stone Magazine is and has been for decades trash 🗑
who cares wenner is irrelevant and has been for years as is the rrhof. some may have had to have been featured in the mag but rush and iron maiden were not and did just fine. and you listed 100 who were not in the hall and seem to have been doing ok. wenner just a name dropper.
Without Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix would not have had a platform to showcase his music on the live concert stage. Hendrix was black as was Chuck Berry and Little Richard. Of course, women can equally rock as men do. I can only guess, but because Jan Wenner showcased Dylan in Rolling Stone for countless years, Dylan remains loyal to him.
Bob has been making some questionable moves late in his career. No doubt about that. He's rocks best songwriter and though not a traditionally "great vocalist", he really is one of the best singers as well.
Bob Dylan may have written about his own future: “How does it feel? To be on your own. With no direction home. A complete unknown.”
David love it
And when Bob stays to his lyrics, the man is brilliant! Great lyricists will change my mind far faster than a Bono at a high-priced book tour any day David!

Waters is bravely anti-fascist. He's written classic songs about that ✌️🕊️💪⚖️🌍
I have to many to list that i dig their music but other than that well.
Bob Dylan was and is the voice of reason 🤘
I heard from a local rock DJ that George Thorogood is a real jerk in person. Still like his music. Same with Ted Nugent. Kid Rock? Hate him and his "music".
One critic called Dylan the greatest rock and roll songwriter whose name isn't Chuck Berry or Smokey Robinson.
And he is that Steven, when he stays to that1 i hqen’t heard that before, but I concur!❤❤❤
I prefer McCartney over Bob. I think Dylan does too ,lol.
Well i did say he was in the Top 5 James, so we don’t differ too much brother! ❤❤❤
I wonder what Robert Zimmerman would say..
@@edwardmclaughlin719 I doubt he would publicly say that he's the best. But, the quality of his writing speaks for itself.
Maybe not of RS but Beck, Page and Clapton are in that guitarists club.
If you're not in the club you don't get compliments. Ritchie Blackmore tells the truth they hate him. He's the dick not them lol. He's as good as all of them. He hates them they hate him. He admits there is a club. He said he don't wanna be in it.😂
Yes they sure are TTH! Spot on! ❤❤❤
Bob dylan is not the big legend you say. Was a horrible singer who should of just written songs.
Totally agree. Overrated as hell in my opinion
👍😁
I'm a big fan of Don Henley's songwriting and vocal ability, demonstrated both with Eagles and as a solo artist. He's an incredible talent but he comes across as a not-so-nice guy with a big ego. Sometimes you need that to be "successful" I guess. I will never tire of his music but have no desire to meet the guy.
I love Bob, but No, just No
Same here Kolchak! Good call! ❤❤❤
Yeah, me too Adam! Lennon was a monster!❤❤❤
A monster asshole by all accounts
Politics aside, Dylan is so far above any other songwriter it’s not even a contest…
He’s overrated.
Your video "The Top 13 Bands of Rock & Roll! " contains all white males (and nothing wrong with that) - just saying!
He’s awful at singing. Always has been!
