BOC will never get in. I believe their long time manager Sandy Pearlman had a feud with someone high up at Rolling Stone. Shame. The original line up of BOC had more musical talent than 95% of the inductees. Boston, in my opinion, belongs in on the merit of their debut album alone. I believe that was the greatest album ever recorded. What other album had been played in its entirety on the radio for over 40 years every day? None that I can think of.
I guess that BOC and Boston aren't great rock bands. I'll have to write a letter to the HOF nominating committee to thank them for enlightening me about what rock and roll music REALLY is.
It's a crying shame that there are many pop artists in there and not these icons you have mentioned. Meatoafs bat out of hell is a legendary rock album and Boston's debut.

I've always wondered why REO Speedwagon has never been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? They are completely a rock and roll band, other than some of those albums after Gary Richrath left and I still don't own them, and they've been around since the 1960s. They're still playing today. I had to double check and make sure they weren't inducted at some point and I laughed when I heard what they refer to it as. The fan vote gives one vote each for the top 5 vote getters. There are about 1,000 voters in the rock hall committee that have a vote for the inductees. So the fans only have a fraction of a percent of the say. The final vote of the committee does not have to follow the fan vote, but more often than not the top fan vote getter will also be voted in by the voting committee.
So the committee comprises ~1000 voters and the artist that is #1 in the fan vote just gets *ONE* vote. But the committee will typically go along and induct the #1 fan vote getter. That must be how KISS got in. The committee *HATED* KISS and rejected KISS for 100 years before the fan vote finally got KISS in. 😆

There are so many great rock & roll bands not in or ignored by the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame that it's insane. Toto is another band that is continually ignored by that hall of shame. Considering who all is on the executive committee, I would not be surprised if they pull some strings and Missy Elliott finds her way into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
I don't know where George Michael belongs but I personally feel he was a amazing artist, musician, producer, performer, songwriter and supreme vocalist. Just my two cents, I think the term "Rock and Roll", in regards to this hall of fame, refers to any act that came out during the rock era. Look at all the Motown acts that are in, for example. None are "rock and roll", but all are essential to the era's music. I have no problem with soul or pop acts being inducted.

The HOF years ago stated that "pop" artists belong as well, plus what is really rock anymore? There aren't a lot of rock acts anymore performing if we go by the strictest definitions of rock. The whole "this isn't rock" varies by people, heck I heard people complaining last year that Pat Benatar and Duran Duran weren't rock either (and I argued with some troll who insisted Duran Duran wasn't rock at all, even though by the strictest standard they are, they always had a ROCK guitarist and while they had a synth, the guitar was dominant too).

Thanks for another eye opening and insightful analysis of the current state of the music industry. The Rock And Roll (Shlock & Droll?) Hall of Shame has devalued the meaning of rock and roll as a musical genre, attitude, and lifestyle by nominating anybody EXCEPT real rock and rollers for induction. Its pronouncements should be ignored by all true fans of this type of music, since the powers that be have no clue whatsoever as to which bands have had the greatest musical impact and garnered the highest level of respect, loyalty, and admiration from their fans. I think the nomination process should be entirely fan driven, i.e. a nationwide tabulation of votes from people who, for a nominal fee, can cast their vote for the bands they would like to receive some sort of national award in recognition of their achievements and lasting creative influence. Fat cat corporate executives and music critics who are not even fans of rock and roll have no business deciding who should be honored with an induction into the Hall of Fame. The entire institution as a scam and a sham that doesn't even give a damn about Rock and Roll.
I am flummoxed on how some of these current artists have made the list to possibly be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Willie Nelson ? Really ? Must've been his hit song "On The Road Again" that clinched it for him.
Well right now the standings are based only on fan votes. The Hall of Fame bosses state in the fine print that fan votes only make up one slice of the final decisions. AND the big boss has publicly stated that the list of inductees will be inclusive and diverse. So we know what that means. I'll be interested in seeing how much or how little sway the fan votes really had once the final list is announced.

The RRHoF has turned into an excuse for the A listers to get together, have a party, and congratulate themselves on how eclectic their tastes in music are. It isn’t and has never been for the die hard rock and roller. You can celebrate eclectic tastes within the genre. Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Guess Who, Rush, Yes, Kate Bush, Carol King, Van Halen, ELP, Supertramp, and the list goes on and on. Half of those I listed still have yet to be inducted.

Did expect this at all. Nobody is even close to George Michael and Cyndi Lauper. And even Warren Zevon is clearly in on top of all the others. I really expected Sheryl Crow, Soundgarden, Maiden and Kate Bush (given the fairly recent hype) to easily take this home.
Foreigner is a big snub. Joe Cocker hit 2 generations. Brian Eno should be in, very influential. Steve Winwood isn't in, or War! Were Huey Lewis & the News, and Phil Collins, both too popular in the MTV video era? Iron Maiden is an obvious band who should be there. And let's face it folks, we all know why Uncle Ted Nugent isn't in. I was a huge fan of George Michael as a singer. He belongs in a Hall of Fame, just not the Rock and Roll HOF. Dolly Parton and Willie Nelson are invaluable to the history of popular music. They are not Rock and Roll.
Maybe some true lovers of rock could start an alternate organization. There is enough disgust with TRRHOF at this point that any new such group would, I think, have immediate recognition, acceptance and validity.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame was a Joke for over 20 Years like the WWE Hall of Fame in Wrestling is a Joke. Its all Politics instead of appreciation IMO. Rock and Roll is a foundation that should be treated better than what its showing as now with some of this Nominees this year. No one in the comment list even mentioned the band "Styx". They started in the early 70s in Chicago as an unknown and worked their way up as a Classic Rock Band. They should be mentioned with the other artists as well.

I don't know where George Michael belongs but I personally feel he was a amazing artist, musician, producer, performer, songwriter and supreme vocalist. He gave us every ounce of talent he had to give. Maybe I love great singers and writers because Boston and The Guess Who aren't in and I have no idea why?

Motley Crue should have been inducted in 2006? And I don’t care what anyone says but they had and still have a huge impact on Rock and Roll good or bad, I think the R&RHOF is a friggin joke I visited it about 5 years ago and thought wow it’s really small, anyway that’s my opinion but even Nikki Sixx said they were told they’ll never get in because of their bad behavior not because of their music so whatever, thx Michael for another great video 🤘🔥🤘
Just my two cents, I think the term "Rock and Roll", in regards to this hall of fame, refers to any act that came out during the rock era. Look at all the Motown acts that are in, for example. None are "rock and roll", but all are essential to the era's music. I have no problem with soul or pop acts being inducted.
Boston not inducted? BTO?? The Rock-N-Roll Hall of Fame is a joke now. It used to mean a lot. Many ROCK bands who deserve to be in there are not. When Randy Rhoads was inducted they did a 3 minute or so tribute. That was it. 3 friggin minutes. Really?? They wouldn’t even let his brother or sister speak on Randy’s behalf.
Oh but they have hip hop and pop musicians inducted. Start a new HOF for them. It’s who can pay enough to get in there.
But it should be ROCK N ROLL Hall of Fame. I won’t even watch it anymore. I just don’t care. For the exact reasons you mentioned.

The HOF years ago stated that "pop" artists belong as well, plus what is really rock anymore? There aren't a lot of rock acts anymore performing if we go by the strictest definitions of rock. The whole "this isn't rock" varies by people, heck I heard people complaining last year that Pat Benatar and Duran Duran weren't rock either (and I argued with some troll who insisted Duran Duran wasn't rock at all, even though by the strictest standard they are, they always had a ROCK guitarist and while they had a synth, the guitar was dominant too).
If Seattle bands are being considered, Alice In Chains should get the nod over Soundgarden.

The Rock And Roll (Shlock & Droll?) Hall of Shame has devalued the meaning of rock and roll as a musical genre, attitude, and lifestyle by nominating anybody EXCEPT real rock and rollers for induction. Its pronouncements should be ignored by all true fans of this type of music, since the powers that be have no clue whatsoever as to which bands have had the greatest musical impact and garnered the highest level of respect, loyalty, and admiration from their fans.
I think the nomination process should be entirely fan driven, i.e. a nationwide tabulation of votes from people who, for a nominal fee, can cast their vote for the bands they would like to receive some sort of national award in recognition of their achievements and lasting creative influence. Fat cat corporate executives and music critics who are not even fans of rock and roll have no business deciding who should be honored with an induction into the Hall of Fame.
The entire institution as a scam and a sham that doesn't even give a damn about Rock and Roll.
The only two bands that deserve to be in the Rock 'N' Roll Hall of Fame 2023 are Iron Maiden and Soundgarden

I am flummoxed on how some of these current artists have made the list to possibly be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Willie Nelson ? Really ? Must've been his hit song "On The Road Again" that clinched it for him.
Well right now the standings are based only on fan votes.
The Hall of Fame bosses state in the fine print that fan votes only make up one slice of the final decisions.
AND the big boss has publicly stated that the list of inductees will be inclusive and diverse.
So we know what that means.
I'll be interested in seeing how much or how little sway the fan votes really had once the final list is announced.

i was just watching a yt bruce dickinson jonny b goode spain 1996. he seems to have been at a party with some spanish metal bands and they are doing johnny b goode and motion him to join in so he sets down his drink and they are all singing in turn. more rock and roll than anything george michael or cyndi lauper ever likely did or could have done. ditto willie nelson and dolly parton.
Michael- I couldn't agree with you more. I like some of the artists that you mention should not be in (Cyndi Lauper, Willie Nelson) but agree they are not rock artists. Hip hop and rap and r & b and pop should not have a place in Rock and Roll hall of fame. Now, do you let blues artists in though? That one seems closer to me, so like guys like John Lee Hooker, fantastic! Does he go in? And is he in?

The RRHoF has turned into an excuse for the A listers to get together, have a party, and congratulate themselves on how eclectic their tastes in music are. It isn’t and has never been for the die hard rock and roller. You can celebrate eclectic tastes within the genre. Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Guess Who, Rush, Yes, Kate Bush, Carol King, Van Halen, ELP, Supertramp, and the list goes on and on. Half of those I listed still have yet to be inducted.

It boggles my mind that all these great bands, who've collectively sold billions of records, somehow cannot get past the gatekeepers of the HOF?
George Michael did put out a few songs that could be considered rockers like faith, monkey, etc. Sometimes pop artists will touch their toes in the water of rock ‘n’ roll

Did expect this at all. Nobody is even close to George Michael and Cyndi Lauper. And even Warren Zevon is clearly in on top of all the others. I really expected Sheryl Crow, Soundgarden, Maiden and Kate Bush (given the fairly recent hype) to easily take this home.
Foreigner is a big snub. Joe Cocker hit 2 generations. Brian Eno should be in, very influential. Steve Winwood isn't in, or War! Were Huey Lewis & the News, and Phil Collins, both too popular in the MTV video era? Iron Maiden is an obvious band who should be there. And let's face it folks, we all know why Uncle Ted Nugent isn't in. I was a huge fan of George Michael as a singer. He belongs in a Hall of Fame, just not the Rock and Roll HOF. Dolly Parton and Willie Nelson are invaluable to the history of popular music. They are not Rock and Roll.
Maybe some true lovers of rock could start an alternate organization. There is enough disgust with TRRHOF at this point that any new such group would, I think, have immediate recognition, acceptance and validity.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame was a Joke for over 20 Years like the WWE Hall of Fame in Wrestling is a Joke. Its all Politics instead of appreciation IMO. Rock and Roll is a foundation that should be treated better than what its showing as now with some of this Nominees this year. No one in the comment list even mentioned the band "Styx". They started in the early 70s in Chicago as an unknown and worked their way up as a Classic Rock Band. They should be mentioned with the other artists as well.
I've always said this an artist shouldn't be in the RRHOF unless their music was played on rock stations plain and simple.
