But do these bands really have anything to offer us anymore?

Today could be the good new days if we had more new acts to see . . . but what's left of the record business would rather give us substance-free pop and angry rappers.
Agree ,was born in 57 grew up with great Hair ,Cars and Awsome Music and got to see most Of the great Bands ,Including Led Zeppelin and my last Big Group was Metallica when they were intact in their Hey Day ! Last was The Steve Miller Band an few Months ago and was stunned at How He sounds the Same after 50 Years!!!
A couple of years ago, I went and saw John Fogerty. I think he was 76 at the time. I went because I’m a lifelong CCR fan. Nonetheless, I was still bracing myself for a highly condensed show full of abbreviated arrangements and multi-song melodies. But I couldn’t have been more wrong.
Fogerty blew my mind with a very long show that included the full length arrangements of almost every hit from CCR AND his solo career.. Even longer songs like “Heard It Through the Grapevine” were kept in full. He ALSO played at least one new song.
I left there very entertained and impressed and hoping I have his same energy when I’m 75.
I love your message of seeking value for your money as a consumer. Sadly, I think this principle is largely lost on the younger generations (I say this as a 25 year old)
I saw Paul McCartney in 2010 - one of the greatest shows I've ever seen and I've seen many artists since 1966. He played non stop for 3 hours and 18 minutes on electric guitar , bass , piano , accoustic guitar , vocals - simply an artist who loves to perform.
Great video as always. Completely agree regarding Queen, Queen was no longer Queen the day Freddie died, the man is irreplaceable.
I still have ticket stubs from Zep, Floyd, Queen, The Who,Stones (among others) from the 70's. Not one was more than $15 ! I bought all same day from scalpers and may have paid up to $20 ! Long Live Rock...good days good times.
How we wish those days were still here
I'm 75 and have been going to see bands since 1966. Today most rock bands are in truth tribute bands with 1 or even none of the original members. I haven't been to a concert in over 20 years.
Do you remember what the first bands you saw were ?

My first concert was in 7th grade, 1970, in San Diego. Chicago came to town off their big hit Color My World. Tickets were four bucks in the upper section, six in the middle, and eight on the floor. I was in the very top row of the top section. And Chicago, sort of, is still around. Agree with Michael as usual.

I saw Macca live almost 20 years ago for 100 euro ticket a pop. He was fantastic and still great voice.
Hey Michael, I met Entwistle in 1992. He was really nice to me. He told me he used a lot of Compression and tuned the Treble and Presence up a lot in the old days. Once he started using Alembic basses, he didn't have to use as much because of the active pickups.
I agree about McCartney. I went to see him in Gothenburg, Sweden in 1993 and in Copenhagen, Denmark in 2005 when he could still sing. Both shows were great. But I prefer to remember him as he was when his voice was still relatively intact rather than imagining in my head how he used to sound, while having to pay an insane amount for listening to just about the same setlist mainly consisting of the same overplayed Beatles songs.

Saw Paul in 76(9.50 ticket) Boston Garden. 89 at the LA Forum. 1990 Sullivan Stadium. When I see video of recent concerts and hear him "sing" I feel sad. How can he not recognize that he can't sing anymore.
Saw McCartney for the third time last year and thought, ‘That will do me’. I feel the same way about Dylan, Springsteen, The Who and The Stones. It’s been fun guys, but I’ve had my fill.
Im 57. Saw a lot of great concerts in the 80s starting with AC/ DC and Van Halen in 1982.

About the Who, they still had something to offer while John Entwistle was alive. For example, the Quadrophenia song, 5:15, did not have a bass solo in it when they first recorded it. However, in the late '90s, they added a nice long bass solo which gave Entwistle the opportunity to really shine. There is a video on UA-cam, which features a camera attached to the end of Entwistle's bass neck, so you can see all his impressive fingering during the solo. As always, I enjoy your thoughtful commentary.
I saw Roger Waters perform THE WALL about 13 years ago in a stadium with his hand picked band . It was a great concert & I saw it for FREE. I won the tickets from a radio station. I was in the 5th row too. (The 2 tickets were worth $500)
Many classic bands have reached a point where they don't need to play arenas to make their paychecks. They, and the fans could benefit from playing smaller, even club settings. My longtime musing was always some top band throwing their gear into a big van and popping into various towns on a secret tour, simply playing music instead of putting on massive, expansive productions.
My very first concert was in 1974 when I saw the great Golden Earring open for King Crimson in 1974 in Toronto. Pretty good for a first concert, ha ha! I saw Paul McCartney in 2010 and thanks to Paul's guitarist Brian Ray (who I had worked on a video for) I had great seats (9 rows back, center stage) and he played for 3 hours without even taking a drink! I also met his band backstage and they were very nice! I gave up on The Who after Keith passed away, as I feel it isn't The Who without him. There are some singers who are in their mid 70's that can still deliver, such as Sparks, who were amazing when my girlfriend and I saw them in 2022 and 2023. She finally got why I love the band so much when she saw them live. Russell Mael can still hit all the high notes with no lip synching like some singers... Regarding the fake Guess Who, it is hilarious that they "can't tour" because they can't cover the hits of The Guess Who. They have their own studio albums (and the latest one has had good reviews overall) Why can't they tour and play their own original songs?? They need the hits of Cummings/Bachman to sell the tickets is the answer. Queen might not be in my top 10 bands of all time. I still think they are the one of the greatest bands of all time, and one of the most talented 4 members in a band ever, along with The Beatles and Led Zeppelin. I saw Yes on their Tormato tour (and I love the album!) and they were amazing. I would not want to see the fake Yes today... I think Paul Paul Rodgers fit in great with Queen but have no interest in the band with Adam Lambert. I could go on and on, we need to do a live chat together sometime. Email me sometime!
First saw Genesis live in 1970 . Over the years saw them about 25 times . Bought every album .They were my band .However I just couldn’t bring myself to see them on the recent last tour when Phil was virtually immobile and looked so poorly . I don’t understand why they felt the need to do the gigs. I will just live choosing to remember the fantastic times they gave me in the past for which I am eternally grateful.
I'd long hoped to see Jethro Tull, but in recent years, Ian Anderson looks like he's gasping -- did he have some kind of health crisis? -- and then his parting company with Martin Barre made me say "Well, that's another one you can't see." You're right: All we can do is appreciate the good memories and fire up the old albums.
I REALLY enjoy seeing all the bands now on tour via UA-cam Postings - decent quality / easy access / zero cost !
Queen is the most Glorious band.
I Agree 120% that all FOUR members were legendary and what made Queen so Awesome and Powerful.
I've seen all the classic bands I'm gonna see.
I have good memories.
I wouldn't pay to see 80 year old guys trying to recreate their 60's and 70's sounds.
Ticket prices aside.
I can go see local live cover bands recreate the original hits better than the geriatric guys out there now.
And every time I see ads for big name bands touring without the vocalists that made the hits I just get cranky.
I got to see good ones back in the day and a couple of great ones.

Well if I was alive back in the '60s and '70s. Right now I'd be closer to 80. Unfortunately I missed the boat. What that means is I can only see what's available now or not see it at all.

First Who concert was the Quadrophenia tour at the Cow Palace, when they had to finish with a drummer out of the crowd.
These guys were young and at their physical and artistic peak as leaders of the rebellion against the establishment with rock, an innovation in music. Not a single person on Earth at that time thought that they would still be relevant, much less performing, after their 30th birthday (or so). This was a unique time, and most of us, fortunately, were there. It's hard to relate to 70 to 80 year-old men the same way as when they were in their youth. They are finally fading away.

Im a big Queen fan . I saw them with original line up on “ The works” tour 1985. Ive seen them 4 times with Adam Lambert as lead singer , with Roger Taylor and Brian May still in the band . I accept they are not the same band , but Adam is a fantastic singer , and another chance to see Brian May on guitar , Im fine with it .

They still sound great even with Adam.
Granted they've lost that Epic feel without Freddie, but the sound is still good and enjoyable.
Gotta say Michael that I'm in agreement with your commentary. I add R.E .O. Speedwagon to the list. They sound great live. Last time I saw them it was good but, it was greatest hits only. I was very disappointed. No Keith Moon and John Entwisle no The Who. Same thing now with Styx. No Dennis De young just doesn't cut it for me personally. I wouldn't pay to see the Eagles at all anymore. Molly Hatchet is not what they were. Just to name a few. THE Beatles hands down were my favourite live. Paul McCartney live doesn't thrill me the way he used to. I can't say enough about his greatness ❤❤❤❤

Pink Floyd mercifully ended when Richard Wright passed away. In fact David Gilmour has retired some Pink Floyd classics from being played live again due to Rick’s death. David Gilmour on his upcoming solo tour is to play all of the new album of his and choice tracks from On an Island and Rattle That Lock. Fat Old Sun from Atom Heart Mother. Possibly Sorrow from Momentary Lapse and On the Turning Away. The Division Bell is to be represented by Coming Back to Life and High Hopes. The only classic era songs will be Wish You Were Here and Comfortably Numb and possibly Shine On You Crazy Diamond (hopefully Parts 6-9 this time as he has no sax player in his band at the moment).
too many older bands are now using backing tracks instead of singing live. so you're paying premium price for music you might as well be listening to a cd (much cheaper)
How could I ever see Zep again. After seeing them during the 1972 How The West Was Won tour and Song Remains the Same concerts and Physical Graffiti tour. I want to remember them in their GOLDEN GOD days, not as 80 year old Grandpas.

When it comes to rock bands, membership changes come with the territory. Pure Prairie League started out with Craig Fuller, George Ed Powell, John David Call, Jim Lanham, and Jim Caughlan when their debut album was issued in 1972. By the time their album “Something In The Night” was released in 1981, the lineup was Vince Gill, Jeff Wilson, Michael O’Connor, Mike Reilly, and Billy Hinds. In 2022, I got to see Foghat, The Guess Who, and Grand Funk Railroad live at Wild Adventures in Lowndes County, Georgia, knowing full well that each of the three bands had one or two original members in the lineup. That original member in those three bands manned the drum kit. Still had a good time.
I just saw Roger Daltery a few weeks ago. He was fantastic. He played about 4 covers, which was cool and maybe two deeper Who tracks. It was an chill setting, he told stories, answered questions, etc. It was great. Ticket prices were off the charts, though. I'm a huge Pete Townshend fan so I'll continue to see him whenever I can. You're completely right about ticket prices and traveling juke boxes. I can see past the traveling juke box thing if a band is retired from writing, and it's more of a celebration of their past music. I CANNOT see past the ticket prices, though. Just pocket digger shows.
I love this guy! I wish we can send him to Congress!!
I saw Radiohead in 2017 and was blown away half the show sounded like music from the future with 2 drummers and insane polyrhythms and percussion. The band were in their 50s and still sounded fresh in fact, it seemed like they weren't as into their older stuff as much even though it sounded great.
I’m 61 and have seen a lot of concert. Back when the most I ever paid was 22$. You are exactly right.

Saw The Moody Blues in a very small intimate theater in the mid 80’s and you are right there is nothing quite like it…….

Saw Pantera back in the day. For me the band died long ago, but I'm not sure how I feel about what I'd call the new Pantera tribute band. I think for me, after the Abbott brothers passed, so did Pantera. Glad the new generation is turned on to some classic Metal though

I saw Queen in 1986 at Wembley cost £15. Then Deep Purple supported by Bad Company at Birmingham NEC. Then Bowie in 1987 at Roker Park. Also the Who at NEC. Great times
In 100% agreement. For me a legacy band must be releasing worthy, new material for me to consider buying ticket$ to $ee. Other factors too, but... I consider most of these great bands, greatly past their prime with only a few exceptions. I Will give them due respect for their hard work and effort to tour in their senior years. I just prefer to find New, Younger acts that are overshadowed, but deserving my applause. Another good episode!!
I'm so old I remember paying around $5.00/ticket to see first American tour Led Zep, opening act Zepher and main act Vanilla Fudge, which I walked out on.
Saw McCartney in 2009, got free tix and if I had to pay, I wouldn't have gone. I am kinda averse to seeing 'old' performers and had been burnt before. To be honest, I was blown away at the energy and Paul's connection with the audience. Fantastic concert and glad I got to see him but its now a 'been there, done that' feeling and I wouldn't go see him again. Worst concert by a headliner, by far, was Pat Benetar about 14 years ago, no rapport with the audience and she seemed to just go thru the motions. REO opened for her and they were the saving grace for that concert. Only times I saw a headliner multiple times was Rod Stewart back in the early 70s, always a great show and I was much younger then ;)
I saw Paul McCartney once. Once was good enough for me.
Rush said they would never go tour as Rush again without the Professor, but if they did, I don’t think I could make myself go. It just wouldn’t be the same.
I agree. But, if they did a "Friends of Rush" tour with many guest musicians, that might be worth seeing. Sort of like what Ringo does with his tours.
Except of course that Geddy’s singing on the last many years was not good. So I really don’t want to hear him sing anymore. Maybe he could get Robert Plant to sing for him?
I saw Styx with DDY in 96 right after John Panazzo died and that is the closest I got to seeing the most beloved lineup. I saw them twice with Gowan. Not bad but without DeYoung, it's just not the same. Even though Tommy wrote great songs, Dennis just made it so very much better.
The most recent live perfomances from bad company available here on youtube are around 6 years ago.. Paul Rodgers STILL is super duper amazing... It got me looking for tour dates to say the least... I think its obvious that older singers lose some of their range as they age... I cant think of any 70s singers that sound as good as Paul Rodgers at this point in time.. Check it out,,
Michael , Fantastic Video . I would have to agree with just about everything you said . I still would not go see YES . I saw them too many times between the 70's and later. I would agree what you said about them writing and touring . Being older and seeing all these bands back in the day , I couldn't bring myself to see any of them over the last 15 years or so . They are now and have been all Tribute bands as far as I am Concerned. People go see them for " old time sake" which is bullshit because they are Not the Real deal . I would rather remember the concerts as they were back in the day . Thanks to UA-cam I can do that . Thanks again Michael !
In 1976 My friend wonted me to go to see wings in the kingdom but I got out of school to late he started driving away I just missed him

I paid $10 for my first concert of Rush, and they were at their best moment. I wouldn’t mind a concert with what’s left of The Who or Paul McCartney, it’s the ticket price.
My first concern was Pink Floyd during the Division Bell tour 94 in NYC. I was 20. Many people do not like that album, but I think it's a great album.
My second favorite album after Wish You Were Here and it’s a sentiment shared not only by me but also David Gilmour and Richard Wright. I saw that tour in May 1994 and it is still the greatest concert I ever attended. Skipped my Senior Prom to see it.
If you wanna see straight ahead rock n roll. The Black Crowes is the answer. 😊

Michael, great channel and love your perspectives on current bands touring. Crazy prices to see anyone now. Tribute bands charge more to see them then I payed to see the original band in the 70’s.

I’m lucky in that where I live - Omaha - Robert & Allison are playing nearby in a couple weeks ($60 tickets!), Jon Anderson will be playing here later this summer, and Roger Daltrey is playing our free Memorial Day concert in the park. Good stuff! And I’ll be honest, I did see Queen + Adam Lambert in Chicago years ago, because I love Queen, too. I knew Freddie’s absence would carry a lot of weight, but I wanted to see my favorite guitarist, Brian May, and he did not disappoint. Rock on!
Great video Michael 👍🏻 I was lucky enough to see Queen with Mott The Hoople in either 73 or 74, 50 years ago so not sure😵💫 in a Gymnasium atRegis CollageFieldhouse and you are 100% right, to see Queen you have to have seen Freddie

Yes are playing in Glasgow this evening - a band I have loved since the 70s and have seen in concert more times than I care to remember. I've thought long and hard about traveling the 320 mile round trip to see them but they are not the band they used to be. Steve Howe is amazing and has done well to keep the Yes flame alive. But after seeing them the last time they toured Britain, my overall feeling after that concert was a sadness and a longing for what once was, especially when Chris Squire was in the band. Don't get me wrong, I think Sherwood, Schellen and Davidson are great musicians. Downes does a reasonable job but doesn't't really cut it apart from filling in the keyboard parts. So it's not the money for tickets that has stopped me going, it's the feeling that I would once again feel disappointed and saddened for what once was.
I’m seeing the show tonight, but I’m going in thinking of it as more of a yes tribute band with Steve Howe in it.

I agree with you. Having seen classic lineups from the late 70’s forward, I just won’t go. I saw Page and Plant in the 90’s. It was an awesome show. One that you didn’t mention but for me is just finished, is Foreigner.
I also saw Page & Plant in 1995 in Minneapolis. The best concert I had ever been to, and I’ve been to many.
@@MJEvermore853 I don’t hear from many that went. When the guy played the worlds loudest hurdy gurdy, could you feel it pounding in your chest? And having the local symphony orchestra really added to some of the songs, like Kashmir.
@@brookswade5774, I actually don’t recall the feeling Nigel Eaton’s hurdy gurdy in my chest as you experienced. I’m surprised that I don’t really remember that! Was it during his solo that it got loud like that? I can’t seem to remember,
@@MJEvermore853 Yes. It was during his solo. The longer he played, the louder it got. I could feel it all the way down to my feet. It was remarkable that it produced that much bass. Did they have the local symphony backing them up?
be aware that a lot of what is being charged is sadly determined by the ticket monopolies at this point. In my youth I went to many concerts that I was not crazy about the artist but the show won me over and I became a die hard fan. No one can afford that now, unless you are wealthy or know someone. There are only 2 artists I would pay to see because it is so expensive and I would only do it if I could get decent seats. Very sad fans cannot afford to see their favorite artists or introduce their kids or friends to them.
I saw McCartney in Sydney in 2023. He was excellent. His solo performances were excellent. He could have done a great singer-songwriter show on guitar, piano and vocals.
The stadium production was great, but Paul’s Hofner bass was either triggering a heavy bass or was processed beyond recognition and the primary lead guitarist had an overbearing sharp tone on every song, despite the numerous guitar changes.
Lonnie Mack was absolutely superb in the 80’s and 90’s. He was touring old tunes, but brought his A+ game to every show as a guitarist, singer and entertainer. Playing your songs, even if there is a 30-year-old hit, to an audience as if this is the first time they’ve seen you is a great attitude.
Lonnie was more like older jazz musicians & blues artists who keep playing, pick up some new material and reinterpret old material, all the while appearing to create in the moment.

There are great live concerts by what I consider 2nd tier bands. Widespread Panic, Government Mule, Umphre's Mcgee. The music is great and it's actually live performances.
I agree with you completely and for all of the reasons you give. (However, six times the price of 1976 is not that much more than it was then, in real money.)
Enjoy the Alison Krause/Robert Plant concert. I saw them last year. They give you a good mix of old and new and a great show - and reasonable ticket prices.
Uriah Heep is a band who is putting out great new music with only one original member. they still rock out live also. my main problem is ticket prices.
When the Eagles broke up in 1980, Glenn Frey said that the Eagles were a seventies band and it should remain that way. It SHOULD have.
While I won’t go see the WHO again because I’ve seen many excellent shows by them. However I was too young to see them with Moon. So I’m very happy they continued so I could experience their music live
I'm glad that my brother ron took me in the 70's to see these great band but today, i would never go back, i'm in my mid 60's and my younger days were great.
I saw page and plant in the Tacoma Dome in 90s
I've seen The Who 5 times since Moon passed and the later Quadrohenia tour with Starkey on drums was incredible! My favorite May trick from the era we saw em in was when he dropped the ukelele solo from Leroy Brown into the Stone Cold Crazy solo. Agree about Skynard totally. Side note, the new Todd Rundgren tour is awesome. Doesnt play any Utopia stuff but for 2 hours of music I wasnt familiar with it was awesome! One his best shows ever!
I think also we have a "bucket list" era of rock band tours.
I"ve seen Queen twice....and it was the Freddie Queen both times....mid to late 80"s......
Being a Queen fan in that era wasn't easy. I remember everyone thinking the whole band was gay and everyone already died of AIDS.

Ticket prices for concerts are outrageous now! That's why I rarely go to concerts anymore and cell phones ruined it for me! Just think I only paid 7 bucks to see Led Zeppelin back in 77! And Zeppelin introduced me to Judas priest who opened up for Led Zeppelin it was an awesome concert!

I said it in the previous comment I missed the boat. Even back 30 years ago I had to spend 25 to 40 bucks for concert tickets just for one person. I wasn't alive when tickets cost $7.

Michael, can't disagree on any of the artists you listed. I'll mention a couple of things. I gave Paul McCartney a miss when he toured Adelaide recently - for obvious reasons!! I'll ALWAYS remember the fabulous show he did here in 1993. I was far back in the audience - but he played some Beatles songs for the 1st time EVER here (Another Girl, Fixing A Hole, Lovely Rita). One of the best concerts i have been to!! Another band that have never broken up & are still touring are Uriah Heep. Since the classic days of the 1970s they still continue to put out solid albums. Mick Box is the only original member - but i make an exception here. I go & see them when they come here because they put on a GREAT stage show.

If the price is right I'll always see Yes I've seen them about 25 times.I also saw Queen at a movie theater with Kansas back in the day then I saw them at a 6000 seat auditorium then at a 14000 seat arena lol
I saw paul mccartney at the los angeles hollywood bowl When he was right on the verge of turning 70. His voice was still strong , still had its range. I paid quite a bit of money to see that show because Of this subject. I knew he was never going to be.Able to sound this good for much longer. It was only a few years later that I heard him on youtube on a new tour and it was just not the same voice. So I made the decision not to buy a ticket. Roger Daltrey made the decision to spend a pretty considerable amount of money.for vocal chord surgery. And to a large degree can duplicate what he did when he was young period But generally you are getting a voice that is Ridiculously passed its prime and although years of hard partying did not help.
Michael, I can't argue with anything you said. I saw Queen The Game tour, my only chance to see them. I saw Pink Floyd The Wall tour as well. So many shows. Cheers.

My biggest ever concert regret was getting the opportunity to see Queen in 1986 and passing it up! I did see 'Queen & Paul Rodgers' in the early 2000's. It was a great concert but I never fooled myself that I was seeing 'Queen.' There are many times I could have seen 'Queen & Adam Lambert' but as much as I love Brian and Roger I never have and never will. I am sure Lambert has a great voice but in my opinion has no business trying to fill the shoes of Freddie Mercury. At least Paul Rodgers was not trying or pretending to be part of Queen. He was a 'guest vocalist' - everyone knew that and so did he and I think most people at the time accepted that it was a short term novelty. From a touring perspective, Adam Lambert seems to have become part of the Queen furniture and it's just not for me!
Got to see The Rolling Stones and the band Living Color at the Cotton Bowl for $50 back in the late 80’s early 90’s great show!
Saw paul mccartney days before his 80th birthday. He actually told the crowd " I know the songs you want to hear but these are the songs I want to play". He played junk....he can't sing anymore...so he played trash. What a joke. For the money

Most of McCartney's set is old stuff apart from a handful of newish music. The problem is 90% of his audience are stuck in the past and are not open to anything he's done in 40 years. Just because you don't know it doesn't mean it's trash.

Michael what did you feel about Super Tramp? LOVED the band, and saw them twice in Toronto, I think 1979 at the old CNE fairground arena and first home of the Poo Jays!
I also saw the Who there shortly after their very first farewell tour!! I saw Daltrey at Casino Rama years ago and, as a lead rock vocalist for over 25 years now, I heard a little crack in his vocal and told my buddy, "he's gonna push too hard as he always does and blow his throat out" which he did!!
Daltrey uses Townshend's brother a lot on his solo tours and the guy's pretty solid, and you might think it's Pete, as he plays and sounds remarkably similar. But we were in the front row and could hear the band begging Roger not to do "Won't Get Fooled Again" because of the strain assumably, but he told them to play it and that was the end of his vocals.
The band were really pissed and Roger tried to carry on and they played a bizarre country medley with some Johnny Cash and other old western stuff which was horrible, that's when Townshend was actually yelling at him and the show ended abruptly after just about an hour.
In fact, most of the audience sat in stunned silence not knowing if it was over or not! It was quite sad really. That's typical with Daltrey, some nights his vocals were amazing and others it was quite shyte!

I just had a conversation with a young friend who is going to see Foreigner. I told her that original members are not in the band anymore.
She became very upset because she didn't know this.
I told her I didn't mean to rain on the parade. You can still have fun, but recognize it's like seeing a tribute band. I shared with her some history of the band...etc. Hopefully I didn't upset her too much. The Foreigner Farewell tour is not the original band on the hit records.
It is also hard for me to be excited about Queen and Journey. Journey fights too much. The tension between members is a turn off.

For me it was Jethro Tull. It was the 90's, there wasn't so much information available so I had no idea what to expect when I saw them for the first time. The songs from Crest Of A Knave were just fine of course, composed with his then present range. Then came Locomotive Breath where I was utterly taken aback by how much he sounded like Gene Simmons, a vast disappointment since I had been greatly digging the 70's Tull, especially Aqualung, Thick As A Brick, A Passion Play and Songs From The Wood.
I often feel like I was born 10 years too late. The first opportunity for me to see Yes was the Union tour, which was vastly better than 90's Tull. Yet, I never liked Grunge or anything that got really popular in the 90's so I really feel like the people born around 10 years older than me got to witness the best music there would ever be where I got in on it just as it was beginning to die.
As for now, I've been trapped in poverty since graduating from woke university 14 years ago, so no fun for me. I got to see Sunn 0))) in 2018, otherwise I really haven't seen any big shows since turn of century. Hoping for a rock revival out of the current idiot music so popular when Neptune reaches Aries in a couple of years. There's scads of music students still woodshedding with better lessons than ever and the robot cannot replace our joy in actually playing the instruments.
Agreed, Michael. In fact, I think I have been to my last concert. All the guys I like are getting too old, too expensive and/or too dead to see. One point of disagreement: I love The Who with Kenney Jones. My favorite tour is the 1979 Tour, their first wth Jones - great setlist, sound and energy. They were still a band with Kenney, making two great albums - not their best, but still great, mid-tier Who.
Great topic, Michael! You know I'm definitely with you on Led Zeppelin with Jason Bonham. That's especially true after seeing him this year doing his " An Evening with Led Zeppelin. Couple more would be Santana and John Fogerty. Although Fogerty doesn't tour as C C & R, I would give him a pass if he did.
Saw Queen in Melbourne Australia in 1985:with Freddie. They were just fricking amazing and his voice and stage presence were off the charts. We all floated out of that concert with our ears ringing due to the incredible volume. Best concert ever!!! Followed by AC/DC in the mid 70’s as a teenager with the legendary Bon Scott. I got to see them so many times and they were special even back then, we all knew it, I will never go to see them with Brian, I saw the best with Bon! Worst concert was U2, not due to the music, but the venue was the huge Melbourne Cricket Ground and we couldn’t even see them. Should have just stayed home and watched a video of them, it was a pathetic choice for a show..

I wouldn’t see Yes in its current form. However, I am seeing Jon Anderson w/Band Geeks in Aug ‘24. It’s probably as close to the real Yes as you can get.
My first concert was in 1975, and I saw Chicago with the Beach Boys. In Fort Collins, CO, and an added bonus was Brian Wilson's first concert back since the 1960's. BTW there is no one I am interested in seeing.
Lynyrd Skynyrd are, in fact, performing other people's hits i.e. the classic line-up's. Just a case of cashing in on the talent of others.
Interesting video. On ticket prices, I totally agree - they are ludicrously, outrageously high and few luxuries are worth the money they are demanding. The size of the venues is also a problem, but I suspect it may be just as much a problem for the audience as it is for the artist as I have noticed that often, smaller, more intimate audiences invariably produce better gigs. That aside, I think this general debate about old rock stars lip-synching, miming, even playing "live" and being auto-tuned etc is a bit harsh. These guys are in their 70's, 80's and even 90's. It is unrealistic of us to expect them to be able to perform the way they did when they were 30 - it's not happening. Personally, I would prefer it if they would cease performing and simply retire with dignity. To close, I will say this though. There are some artists, most of whom long since died now, that I would have loved to see - for example, Elvis would have been in his early 90's now, obviously as with any 90 year old would not be up to much, but just to be in the same room as the man would be a privilege. These guys are holy grails. They made some priceless music - let's just play the music we love and be grateful we have had these guys. Thank you for posting.

I never got to see Ronnie (RIP). I did see Rosington Collins twice. Seen Skynyrd yearly, from 1990 to 2008. They were still a tribute band.
Ive been doing a Mcartney tribute band since the late 90s. My set list would be around 40 songs or so. Over the years with Paul having much of the same songs all the time, I stopped going to his concerts because..except for maybe 2 or 3 songs..the rest were the same when he has this massive catalog to choose from. Now i love "Let Me.Roll It" and "Dance Tonight" for example, but i dont consider them as staple songs that need to be in his set list for 20 years. So i make my set list of the "staples" of course, but i also try to add those songs that i think alot of his fans have have dying to hear since he returned to the live stage in '89 to promote "Flowers in the Dirt". Songs like " Uncle Albert", "oo you", Silly Love Songs" and "Take It Away". I would do " Ram On" and go right into "Big Barn Bed". Dont get me wrong, there is no such thing as a bad McCartney concert, but for the ticket price and a predictable set list, i'll watch it on you tube now.
