The library had The Changeling available so I just downloaded it; sounds good. I felt the same about Just Like Home. I loved how we started finding out more and more about her character and her past.
I feel like we have a similar level of horror/creep tolerance, so I LOVE these recs!! Kinda want to reread Summer Sons, Vita Nostra and Sorrowland, I adored those last year 🤩 And I've been wanting to read Folklorn, Mount Char, Middlegame and The Changeling for sooo long now, so thanks for bumping them up the list again!! Great video 🥰🥰
I read Mount Char last week from your recommendation in an earlier video - loved it! The levels of lunacy reminded me of Bone Orchard & Gideon, totally agree 🖤🖤.
👻 I’m not much of a scary horror reader. But two I’d recommend that have light spooky vibes are “Bellweather Rhapsody” and “Tuesday Mooney Talks to Ghosts,” both by Kate Racculia. In the middle-grade arena I’d recommend “Frances and the Monster” by Refe Tuma.
i'm so excited for all the spooky books. I really need to pick up some Victor Lavalle. I'm currently reading My Soul to Keep by Tananarive Due after loving Good House last year, and I am hoping the spooky vibes are strong.
Tananarive Due is an author I have been hearing a lot of lately and I am wondering which of their works to pick up first. But yes you need to try the Changeling!
Certain Dark Things is like the best possible Vampire the Masquerade Novelization. Victor LaValle is a favorite, have read both of your recommendations for him and The Ballad of Black Tom is a must for Lovecraft fans imo.
👻 Well, that's my October tied up. A fantastic presentation in a nutshell of a diverse selection. Thank you so much! Oh, and a book I'd like to recommend for this time of year would be The Ceremonies by T.E.D Klein. One of the spookiest stories ever put to paper. Enjoy!
KKKITTTTYYYY!! Some of these sound pretty cool but I tend to steer clear of haunting/horror books. Hmmm I am curious about Vita Nostra. I had a couple people recommend it based on my gripes with Babel.
I’ve read and enjoyed many of these great recipes and want to get to several more. I’d recommend Ghost Summer, which is Tananarive Due’s short story collection. I’m not sure you’d love the two novels I’ve read by her, but I think the themes in this collection would work for you. 👻
Yes, I love Vita Nostra so much!! It's such a mind-blowing read. With how popular dark academia is at the moment, I'm honestly surprised that it isn't talked about more on booktube/booktok.
Literally every video about dark academia I end up recommending Vita Nostra in the comments cause honestly for me its pretty much my perfect version of that sub genre
👻 So many cool books added to my TBR thanks to you! I have no clue if I'll get to them this month but I definitely want to read some of those soon. Happy spooky reading!
👻 listen to Horrorstör by Grady Hendrix. The audiobook is so fun and slowly gets creepy and weird. I've also heard that the physical book is fun because it's mixed media format.
I really want to reread His Body and Other Parties! I loved the svu story, I really don’t understand why it gets so much hate. My go to horror recommendation is Through the Woods by Emily Carrol. It’s a short story collection in graphic novel form. The art is beautiful and it’s creepy without being too creepy. 👻
Oh my goodness that sounds like an amazing recommendation, especially since I am trying to get more into graphic works as well! Thanks for putting it on my radar!
@@LiteratureScienceAlliancePlaced my order for The Changeling and Vita Nostra, I think I'll like them a lot! Already have Just like home, can't wait to read it, it's on my TBR for a while now lol
@@LiteratureScienceAlliance I would recommend it to anyone and everyone 😁😇 because it's my no 1 Halloween read. Changing the topic (but not entirely 😋): based on your tastes, I've been reading a lot of T. Kingfisher these days. ☺️
A lot of these books I feel are on the lighter side of horror and not as intense as the genre can get. I was surprised at how much I have been liking dipping my toes in this sub genre lately!

I have really been wanting to read the Library at Mount Char!
Yesssss I just read Middlegame last month and it definitely became a favorite read of the year. So good!
Middlegame is such an amazing read!!
Certain Dark Things is like the best possible Vampire the Masquerade Novelization.

I love everything about the aesthetic of certain dark things, it was perfect reading for me last year

Summer Sons is a great recommendation. I am excited that the author has a book coming out next year!
Same! Summer Sons slowly crept up on me with how invested I ended up getting, really great read

He is an adorable menace 😂
Love that beautiful cat 🐈⬛ 🐈
He is such a beautiful monster
👻👻👻 I love Darcy Coates only read one book so far but she does good Spooky books.
I will have to look them up!
Have you read Dark Sister - by Graham Joyce?
I have not, would you recommend it for me based on my tastes??
