    Oh my goodness!! It never occurred to me that my checkbox property can be shown right on the Timeline View! What a difference to not have to worry about filtering them to Complete!!!! I then tried it on the Calendar view which is newly available to my iPad, and WOW so great!!! Thank you so much!!!

    8:10 - I think it is great when u have a task that doesn't show on the timeline if it doesn't has a start date. You can plan that activity and look for validation of someone else not compromising the current view of the project

    Hey Thomas! I'm a fellow content creator and my team and I have used your Video Project Tracker for a year now ! Like you, I'm always on the search for THE perfect to-do & project-management system so I was stoked to see your Ultimate Task and Projects Template. How do you and your Team use these two Templates together? Did you integrate the Video Project Tracker into the Ultimate Task an Projects Template or do you just use hyperlinks?
    I would love to hear more about that workflow from you!
    Cheers, Thomas

    • @ThomasFrankExplains
      @ThomasFrankExplains  4 роки тому +2

      Right now, I've added an additional relation our own All Tasks database called Content - this lets me associate tasks with pieces of content. I've also updated our content templates to include a Linked DB view of Ultimate Tasks, so we can add tasks within the project (much like it's done with the Projects view in the public version of Ultimate Tasks).
      This will be covered in much more detail when I finish the Notion for Creators course 😉
      I'm also exploring what benefits there might be to merging these two databases - but that's a slower process because there's an even bigger question it brings up: What if nearly everything was in one database?

    • @manager-businessdeniserdrc7018
      @manager-businessdeniserdrc7018 3 роки тому

      @@ThomasFrankExplains I look forward to the merging DBs!! I am on the fence on whether to link and roll up between them or create one huge one because one is Calendar & Tasks, the other is financial, and yes, those definitely connect and share tasks, so right now trying to decide- do I relate and rollup or do I try to merge? And how do I do that?

    • @dillonmderosa
      @dillonmderosa 4 роки тому

      @@ThomasFrankExplains Hi Thomas, you mention it at 11:59, and on your page it says "Global changes should be made to the Master Checklist." I was wondering if you figured out a way to have a "global" master checklist. So when creating each new project/video the checklist would be updated automatically if you ever added or changed stuff to the Master checklist. Perhaps, this isn't an exact feature and you just wrote yourself a reminder but I was wondering if there is more to this.

    • @ThomasFrankExplains
      @ThomasFrankExplains  4 роки тому +1

      @@dillonmderosa ah, now I know what you mean! This is something I'll cover in more detail in my course, but yes - I have master checklists in our wiki, and then I have template blocks inside my video projects that can generate up-to-date copies of those checklists. It's simple to do - just create a template block, then use the Link to Page slash command to place a link to a page inside it. Do it that way, and the template block makes a copy of the page. Note that if you use the inline-link syntax (double brackets), it'll just generate a link to the original page.

    Hi Thomas. Great to see these new features... and knew that you'd have an update on them for ease of understanding. Thank you! I'm new to using your Ultimate Tasks for Notion template and unclear the best way to use or incorporate your updated template with the earlier version I began using last week? I'm also new to Notion. Do I simply copy over the 'Timeline View' to my existing copy? Duplicate a new copy of your updated template and copy my db's over? I'm pretty sure I'm overthinking it. =)

    • @ThomasFrankExplains
      @ThomasFrankExplains  4 роки тому +1

      Great question! I should probably write something up about this.
      If you're not going to switch over to a fresh version of the template, then you'll need to do the upgrade yourself - copying over pieces of my template wouldn't work, as those pieces would have Linked DB views targeting the wrong database.
      To do the upgrade to your own space, do the following:
      1. Add a Date property to All Tasks called Start.
      2. Duplicate the Today page (or any page, but I used Today)
      3. Rename that to Timeline view, then recreate the Linked DB views I have in my Timeline view. I did this by duplicating Table view (to keep the filters), then changing that duplicate to a Timeline view and renaming it. I then deleted all views except Table and Timeline.
      4. Set Timeline view to timeline by separate properties (Start and Due). Customize the table and timeline views how you like, or set them how I have them.
      5. Adjust the filters of Timeline and Table view to match mine (there are some small tweaks, such as making sure Done tasks don't disappear from timeline view)
      Hope that helps!

    • @timl.211
      @timl.211 4 роки тому

      @@ThomasFrankExplains Thank you for the detailed reply of switching over. It's appreciated! If I were to copy over a fresh version of the template, would I simply export and import my data into the All Tasks and same with Projects?
      I'm not opposed to switching over to the new template entirely, with the obvious concern of ensuring I have all the data in the new template. =)
      Again, Thank you.

    Why not just use the end date on the date property. There must be some reason why you need to separate into two properties. Very helpful video! I love the Timeline View.

    • @ThomasFrankExplains
      @ThomasFrankExplains  4 роки тому

      There is: When filtering by date, Notion ignores the end date. So in a "Today" view, tasks with a start date of Today and an end date of next week would still show up as "due" today. The only way around this currently is to have different properties for start and end dates.

      - Separate start and end dates
      * you need to have 2 date properties for the database in order to set it up like Thomas showed

But when watch someone explain something, the fast movement of the cursor is a distraction instead of a direction.
