The best way to offer that would be to use a form builder that can redirect people to a specific URL after they submit the form - or alternatively send them an auto-responder email with the PDF. ConvertKit can do either!
This was released two days ago but I didn't get a notification, even through I have rung the bell! Just as well your newsletter prompted me to find this - thank you, Thomas!
I LOVE your videos. I was wondering if there is a video on the new Customize features in the three dots menu on databases? I have no idea what they do or how/whether to use them. If not, might you make a video for this?
What would you like to know or see about journaling specifically? My Ultimate Brain template comes with a journal section in the Notes dashboard: thomasjfrank.com/brain/ And if you want to build things yourself, you could pretty easily add a journal section to the Notes dashboard we built in this tutorial: ua-cam.com/video/zLqkp3-VLSM/v-deo.html
I've brought that up as a feature request to the Notion team - it's something that annoys me as well. You have to show the breadcrumbs to link back to the home page.
Hi Thomas, I appreciate your hard work. You helped me a lot I was wondering if you can walk me through on something on Notion. I am a language teacher and I want to add a formula on my vocab list. Q- so I watched a video of you explaining the ultimate task template video but I have a question how did you pin the template in the favorites i know how to do that but in your notion, you selected a specific list of options like inbox, today, tomorrow. so how do I do that in my Notion.
I am probably missing something very simple, but when I try to connect my domain there is no site settings or manage all domains link. Is there another way to access these?
This is very helpful. Can you tell me how you got About Me, Templates, Blog, and Contact at the top of the page? It looks like that just appeared without you doing anyrhing. Thanks.
Nice video again Thomas, Question: How do you disable people being able to add filters to a database view? also how do you stop people seeing that blog database as a drop down on that page ?
Hey Thomas, amazing video, gained a lot of value. Do you think its still possible to start a new youtube channel on creating notion templates and scale it up to $10,000?
Hi Thomas Would one be able to build Databases or Webpages pages/s in NOTION that resembles a "Police Record" with different blocks that indicate address, photo of the person, crimes committed etc. Just like the ones we see on American Police shows when they pull up screen databases that have all the person records so different records can be cross with checked for previous crimes and so on. In other words, a NOTION page/Webpage that resembles a database of blocks that looks like a page that was done in say EXCEL or WORD but with the power of NOTION. Thanks
One other question: are the breadcrumbs in the top left of the page intuitive enough for users to navigate? Are there any downsides to adding some navigation buttons (maybe via a synced block) on the various pages? With using "full page" pages instead of side peek or center peek, I wonder how users are expected to find their way around the site, especially if there are lots of pages
One of my initial pieces of feedback to the Notion team was to add an option to put a logo or site title in that breadcrumb spot. I agree that the breadcrumbs are a bit awkward when using Notion as a website platform - though I don't think they're too hard to navigate for the time being. That said, I don't see a huge downside to adding your own on-page navigation, other than what it'll do to your page layout. In particular, be aware of how multi-column layouts stack on mobile - i.e. if you made a left-hand menu, it'll be at the top of every page on mobile.
Would this be a good option for an author looking to put links to their books on Amazon etc or maybe having direct sales links set up in the next year or so. Also, a possible place for a blog?
Yeah, I think so! In my opinion, Notion Sites has become hands-down the easiest way to build and maintain a website where content is changing often or where you have a blog.
AMAZING content!!! Does the "parent" blog database have to live on the website, hidden behind a toggle in the footer that a user could potentially find? Or can it live outside the website on a separate page?
You could also place it outside of the main home page's sub-page structure, but you would need to make sure to manually set it to be pubicly live on the web on its own in that case. The benefit would be that the blog database wouldn't be easily findable in the blog page's footer - however, users could still navigate to it via the breadcrumbs on a blog post if you enabled the breadcrumbs feature. My sense right now is that it may cause confusion in the case that a user lands on the blog database and doesn't see a quick way back to the home page, so I'd be careful about implementing it that way.
If you can embed an e-commerce widget from another platform, then yes. Though what I'd recommend doing is selling through a platfrom like Lemon Squeezy or Gumroad, and simply linking to the checkout pages for your products from your Notion Site. That's exactly what I do on my WordPress site - for example: thomasjfrank.com/creators-companion/ Hope that helps!
Might be a bit niche, but it would be great if there were a guide on how to move your already existing WordPress website over to Notion. I already have a website, but I just use it as a blog, and it would probably be easy to manage on Notion at this point. The biggest downside to this is that I don't think Notion allows you to run any ads on your website that you publish through their platform.
I would say that, at least for now, you should be cautious about moving an established site from WordPress or another site to Notion Sites IF there are specific features you're expecting. Notion Sites is a very new product, so we don't have a lot of the features we have in WordPress. A lot of them we're just not likely to ever get. Right now, I see Notion Sites as a much better option for: 1. Folks who have never built a site and want an option that's easier than other platforms (especially for blogging) 2. Website use cases that have seemed "not worth the hassle" in the past, regardless of the creator's level of skill and experience On point #2, I'm working on a little "recommendations" site that I'll build in Notion - a place I can easily add the stuff people often ask me about (e.g. where I get the shirts I wear in videos, my favorite books, etc). That said, quickly looking into this I can see that there are projects that can export WordPress posts to Markdown: github.com/lonekorean/wordpress-export-to-markdown Using a tool like that, you could probably end up with a directory of Markdown files that you could then bring into Notion using their native import tool. However, at the moment I'm not sure how you'd deal with images, since those couldn't be directly embedded in the Markdown files themselves.
Would it be possible to give someone password protected access to a page? I'm helping a company with marketing analytics and I think it would be cool post some of their data on my site but it would def be better if it was protected.
Not natively in Notion, but I've read that Memberspace can add that password-protected layer on top of a Notion site: www.memberspace.com/platforms/notion-membership-website/ (I've never tested this, though)
So sorry to be a nuisance but can't find any answers anywhere else. Why might my site analytics be two days behind? Only published the site three days ago. I'm only seeing stats upto the 16th and it's the 18th July today.
It's native Notion. It seems to be always two days behind. Not sure how to add GA. Have entered my G- number but am pretty thick about stuff like that. That's a hint for another video 😊
@@ThomasFrankExplains I found the answer with your help. It just works with uploaded images. I tried with the unsplash pics. Thanks for all your work btw
That'd be nice for sure! I think you might be able to hack it with Cloudflare Workers, but it's something I haven't tried yet. For my purposes, Framer and WordPress are better choices when I really want to customize the design. But I'll be using Notion Sites for the recommendations site I'm building as a side project.
Thanks so much. Now all I need to know is how safe are notion.sites from hackers and is there any way to prevent work being copied (such as 'no right clicking)?
A hacker would have to either be given edit permissions on your site, or somehow log into your account, in order to make any changes. If you have a strong password that you don't re-use, and you have 2-factor authentication enabled, your level of site security should be as good as you can get with pretty much any other platform. Here's more on Notion permissions if you're curious: thomasjfrank.com/notion-sharing-permissions-the-ultimate-guide/ As for preventing right-clicking - honestly, don't worry about this. There's truly no way to prevent it anymore. Notion Sites don't have a "disable right-click" feature, but even on sites that do, I can use the OCR option in the screenshot tool I have installed on my Mac to just copy any text by taking a screenshot.
Would this be a good option for an author looking to put links to their books on Amazon etc or maybe having direct sales links set up in the next year or so. Also, a possible place for a blog?
That turning the bullets into pages thing is a new thing I learned. Thanks for this tutorial! I've got ideas now!

Nice work Frank! I managed to build a similar site from your previous video, I’m here for the final touches ✍🏾✍🏾

Was really looking forward to this video! Thank you for the comprehensive guide. Keep up the great work Thomas.
This was super cool!
here's a suggestion that I actually learned from yourself: making buttons with "indify" would look way better!
Thanks Thomas!

Hello Thomas, thank you so much for your video. Always enjoy it! Is it possible to have a downloadable pdf on the site to capture emails?
The best way to offer that would be to use a form builder that can redirect people to a specific URL after they submit the form - or alternatively send them an auto-responder email with the PDF. ConvertKit can do either!

I don't think there's an option for this now, but I'll send this question to the Notion team!
