    I would love the ability to speak this efficiently. Zero filler words or pauses, explaining with concise clarity. I struggle to explain things that are far less technical. Any advice on how you do this or is it just natural?

    Great video again! Thank you for the fresh content. The new "status" property is also great ! It makes it so much easier to group things by "type" of status (ex: in progress). You can also see the number of tasks (or %) left to do on a project, for example. It makes a lot of the formulas we are regularly using useless. Lol. Red Gregory made a great video about it. 🙂

  • @lukogs

    A very good update indeed, especially the side peek.
    My question is can a table view show sum data that is generated/computed from one of it's sub page's column?
    Example from "shopping list" table view:
    Networking
    Music
    Camera
    When opening "Networking" on side peek, a table view is created and has items & prices.
    Example:
    Router $50
    AP $10
    cable $5
    sum(65)
    Want this calculated 65 to appear on it's parent table view price column.

    • @lukogs
      @lukogs 2 роки тому

      Edit: I followed what you did with the rollup and relations. Created two table.
      1. Main categorized table view
      2. Items table (all items of each category into a single table)
      Then i related these two and manually selected the items to its category to get price.

  • @ndohoa
    @ndohoa 2 роки тому +2

    Great video as always! Btw, can you show me the formula behind the property "∑ Progress" at 8:52?

    • @ThomasFrankExplains
      @ThomasFrankExplains  2 роки тому +4

      Yep!
      slice("●●●●●●●●●●", 0, prop("Percent") * 10) + slice("○○○○○○○○○○", 0, (1 - prop("Percent")) * 10) + " " + format(prop("Percent") * 100) + "%"
      For this to work, you'll also need a Number property (or a formula property outputting a number) called Percent. It should also be formatted as a percent, so that the actual underlying number is a decimal - e.g. 75% == 0.75
      Hope that helps!

    • @ndohoa
      @ndohoa 2 роки тому

    I have created a habit tracker which calculates the number of items you have ticked for each day. Is there a way of converting this into a progress bar for the week?

    • @ThomasFrankExplains
      @ThomasFrankExplains  2 роки тому +3

      Possibly, but I'll note that a database-driven habit tracker is really, really hard to build in Notion. It also ends up being very clunky to use unless you add in some external tools to help it via the API.
      The problem is the limited toolset we have for aggregating information about multiple rows.
      Guessing your tracker has a db row for each day with some checkbox properties for the habits?
      In that case, you'd probably need to relate that db to a Weeks db, and relate each Day row to its specific week. Then you could roll up your habits and use a formula to output a completion percentage. From there, you can display as a progress bar.

    • @rspeckham

    Thomas, just wondering if you can answer a question on board view
    Unless I'm missing something the cards in board view only show the entered data and the associated property, therefore you may be looking similar data without any indication of which property it relates to, which is pretty useless.

    Can you make flashcards using Notion? I've been looking at so many videos, and it seems like most people make flashcards somewhere else and then build a table in Notion to track when they need to review the cards again. Notion doesn't seem to have any feature that makes taking notes and converting them to flashcards very easy. How do you reengage with the notes on a deeper level than just rereading them again?

    • @ThomasFrankExplains
      @ThomasFrankExplains  2 роки тому +2

      You can! Here's a little proof of concept template I made for you: thomasfrank.notion.site/Notion-Flash-Cards-51e7ae9bf34c42cfbe39a27f810296a0
      Check the checkbox to reveal the answer.
      I'll flesh this out for a future video/template!
      I'll also share my flash card tips article: collegeinfogeek.com/flash-card-study-tips/
      A key insight with flash cards is that the labor it takes to make them from scratch is VERY useful for the learning progress. You don't really want a tool that automatically turns your notes into flashcards.
      The process of working through your notes and turning them into question-answer pairs is a very active one, and active learning is the best kind of learning.
