WE FINALLY HAVE PROGRESS BARS YAAAYYYYYY omg that and the multiple columns option is such a good update. Thank you Notion 🥺 We've asked for this for so long, finally they exist for us who can't program.

You did not mention, but one nice thing about this new icon feature is that they adapt to light / dark pages! At least the gray ones do!

Concise yet complete and easy-to-understand explanation. It's great to see that Notion improves so rapidly and that Thomas creates these tutorials on the new features.
With these constant updates and improvements, I need to try Notion now more than ever. I've been watching your Fundamentals Course and it has helped me a lot. Thank you for everything!
Just as I'm updating my Notion setup and thinking to myself "I wish I could color-code my pages with the icons like I do with Google products"... It become doable. Amazing, that makes my day! The multi-column update is a nice addition too; I'm a big column fan! Thanks for letting us know! 😁 *Gone color-coding EVERYTHING like a freak*

I didn't even cross the 3mins mark of the video and I was like in utter joy : D .. probably theeeee best pack of notion updates given to us in a matter of weeks.
Great video again! Thank you for the fresh content. The new "status" property is also great ! It makes it so much easier to group things by "type" of status (ex: in progress). You can also see the number of tasks (or %) left to do on a project, for example. It makes a lot of the formulas we are regularly using useless. Lol. Red Gregory made a great video about it. 🙂
I immediately made use of some of the features here. The biggest one for me is the database templates - even though all I'm doing is setting the font to serif lol. Much appreciated.
Bunch of geeks out here. Learning Notion latest tricks on a FRIDAY night. Lol I'm genuinely excited about all those new features. So much potential !!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you so much for this update on Notion's new features. Great explanations, as usual! Looking forward to digging into Notion with renewed interest. :)
I absolutely love these! I've learned so much. One request: could you slow down a bit? I'm a native English speaker with a fairly quick mind, and it's an absolute sprint to keep up with you. I know I can rewind, but it would be nice to get it the first time. I can't imagine how any non-native speaker could possibly keep up, even with the subtitles. Tiny quibble, huge thanks!
Wow Thomas you are the default goto guru in Notion. Thanks very much. Just when I was going to search/learn on progress bar (today, I swear). Brilliant video as always🙌
These features seem great! I'm thinking of buying your Ultimate Brain database template. Seems like a lot of these features would integrate well into that. Are you planning on updating the template at all, or will we need to wait a new version down the line? Cheers
Thanks! I'll likely update it to include the new progress bars at the very least. Not 100% when I'll do that (I'm currently juggling a lot of projects), but it'll be a very simple update when I do. I always publish full video upgrade guides showing my customers exactly how to perform the upgrades.
Could you make a video where you talk about how to use Notion on Ipad? There are so many limitations there and I didn't really find any good videos on youtube about that.
Thank you for this! So much I didn't even realize had been updated! One thing I didn't hear mentioned (unless I missed it) - you can now choose to have relations show in only one of the two databases involved in the relation. I have a bunch of relations that I really need to only go one way, so this has been really useful and cleaned things up a lot.
This is an excellent video. Very well put together, thanks for making a great resource! I'm new to notion and trying to learn the features, this was fantastic.
I started using notion recently for work(for myself to structure work and also make myself more productive, after watching bunch of UA-cam creators from America using it😅). And as we have a lot of working sites where we need to live updates, I’m not using it that actively, but I already used the column option and thought it was there for a long time😂 so I’m that type of customer, who just joined and accept recently achieved greatness as base😬 good I saw this video, I’m gonna appreciate more.
I'll likely update it to include the new progress bars at the very least. Not 100% when I'll do that (I'm currently juggling a lot of projects), but it'll be a very simple update when I do (so you won't need to transfer to a new copy of the template).
Icons, Progressbar, Columns and Relation Limiter are so important. Also because you did not mention it, but drag selection database to change the property is also really helpful.
Can you add columns to a template? Seems like it's not possible and yet on your video Sub-Tasks in Notion: The Ultimate Guide [10:24] I see that you have an on page navigation and I'm wondering how you go that to show up as a side bar on your project?
Thanks so much for the video, Tom! I've been struggling with columns for a while now, this surely helps. Looking forward to using the progress bar/ring. Sidepeek is my view of choice ever since I started with Notion a couple of weeks ago. The icons are by far my favourite addition just released this week! Amazing how you come up with such great quality tutorials in short time!
The side peek threw me off for a bit when they first launched it but I got used to it and really like it. The relation picker is cool too. I really hope that they are working on the ability to have the links to other pages in notion show up in a peek window instead of opening up the full page.
Great video. Can't agree with you enough about adding Sort and Filter features to the Relations picker. Those features would streamline SO much of my workflow. As things stand now, I need to segregate relations picks into separate tables, even when the only reason I'm doing it is to filter the picker list. Hopefully that's in the pipeline.
A very good update indeed, especially the side peek. My question is can a table view show sum data that is generated/computed from one of it's sub page's column? Example from "shopping list" table view: Networking Music Camera When opening "Networking" on side peek, a table view is created and has items & prices. Example: Router $50 AP $10 cable $5 sum(65) Want this calculated 65 to appear on it's parent table view price column.
Edit: I followed what you did with the rollup and relations. Created two table. 1. Main categorized table view 2. Items table (all items of each category into a single table) Then i related these two and manually selected the items to its category to get price.
Awesome content as always - learned a lot here that I hadn't even noticed. One thing you didn't mention that I was VERY happy with: you can now go back and forward through pages by using mouse buttons 4 & 5 instead of only with ctrl + [ or ] (which didn't work for me on my Belgian keyboard anyway...)
Yep! slice("●●●●●●●●●●", 0, prop("Percent") * 10) + slice("○○○○○○○○○○", 0, (1 - prop("Percent")) * 10) + " " + format(prop("Percent") * 100) + "%" For this to work, you'll also need a Number property (or a formula property outputting a number) called Percent. It should also be formatted as a percent, so that the actual underlying number is a decimal - e.g. 75% == 0.75 Hope that helps!
@@ThomasFrankExplains Thanks. Now that I got the formula, can you help me to configure it? I mean I don't know how to have that Total Progress bar automatically running inside my projects so that every time I make changes in a project, the bar of that project changes respectively (it's so magical).

I'm a elementary classroom teacher and a novice Notion user, and I have a grand idea to create my planner inside of Notion for its flexibility and comprehensive, and frankly, overwhelming toolset. Also, I’m subscribing, as seems like there’s a lot of great suggestions about notion. I want to learn capabilities of it to see if it really can help to improve my work. Thank you for making content!
I have created a habit tracker which calculates the number of items you have ticked for each day. Is there a way of converting this into a progress bar for the week?
Possibly, but I'll note that a database-driven habit tracker is really, really hard to build in Notion. It also ends up being very clunky to use unless you add in some external tools to help it via the API. The problem is the limited toolset we have for aggregating information about multiple rows. Guessing your tracker has a db row for each day with some checkbox properties for the habits? In that case, you'd probably need to relate that db to a Weeks db, and relate each Day row to its specific week. Then you could roll up your habits and use a formula to output a completion percentage. From there, you can display as a progress bar.
I'm still trying to get the initial version of my genealogy workbench built...and I can't keep up with all of these new features! :) A good problem to have.

A very good update indeed, especially the side peek.
My question is can a table view show sum data that is generated/computed from one of it's sub page's column?
Example from "shopping list" table view:
Networking

Camera
When opening "Networking" on side peek, a table view is created and has items & prices.

sum(65)
