  • How is the Aprilia Tuareg 660 from an ownership perspective? I document the first service at 600 miles (1000 km), installation of several accessories including skid plate, crash bars, OEM heated grips, OEM quickshifter, and more. How is the dealer experience and what does it cost to work on this bike? Also, some random blog content where I shop for a sports bike while waiting for my bike to get serviced. #motorcycle #motorbike #adv #aprilia #tuareg660

    Hello. I am lucky to live near an Aprilia dealer ,and just got the quick shifter and first service done. My first service included the update, head bearing inspection wheel bering inspection, chain lube and adjust brake pad inspect and adjust, re torqued all safety fastners, coolant level check and fill battery test ,charging system check reset service light and more. I was going to do it myself until I heard all that needs to be done. It was almost $500. Love your channel. I am 707darren on youtube. My other bike is a R1250GS. Best wishes D

    The way the grips are integrated into the bikes system makes it worth the price. It is nice to not have a switch that you have to figure out where to place. I remember going to GP Cycles while I was in the area and they were nice guys to deal with.

    • @defylifeadventure
      @defylifeadventure Рік тому

      I thought that on my 890. It soon became a pain having to go into the menu to turn the grips on after every stop. On a long ride that could easily 5-7 times with fuel stops and food or sightseeing. It really gets old fast. Something like the symtec heat demons you can just hook up to switched power and leave the switch turn on. That way they power up as soon as you turn the bike on. IMO it's a better system for long distance riding/touring.

    Ian you’ll love the new engine map. It is so much smoother & to me it felt as if it had 10 more hp. I’m in Indiana at 800 ft amsl. I’m sure you’re at a higher elevation. Also, when you changed your oil, did you happen to retorque the left & right side engine case covers (and I believe some bolts on the bottom of the engine). At 600 miles in, all of my bolts were not tight to 12Nm. It’s worth checking as I believe some of the oil & water pump leaks on the left side are due to a loose cover.

    Nice video and fun to see all the eye candy bikes you were looking at. I had a Ducati Panigale V4s and it was fantastic but really just too fast. Traded it in on a Ducati Hypermotard 950 SP. Another incredible bike. Amazed I got through those two bikes with no tickets:) It I was looking for a sport bike now I would really be interested in a Ducati V2 bike, because back in the day I had a Honda RC51 and that was the most fun sport bike I ever had. The V2 engine configuration is great. The more I see you review the Tuareg 660 the happier I am that I got a KTM 890r Adventure, just because for off road the 890r just seems designed better and more durable. Not to trash the Tuareg though. It is a nice bike and if I had one I would still be pretty happy no doubt. Looking forward to your future reviews of the 660 just out of curiosity. Also noticed a Specialized Levo in your garage. I have a Gen3 and just love the bike. So much fun! You going to do a review on that?

    When installing the heated hand grips the computer recognizes it on the dash and you don't need the dealer for installing them, you just need to be careful with running the wires up in behind the display because things can get a little tedious and time consuming to keep from pinching wires and breaking some of the faring and the neck going under the display when the bolts don't come lose without breaking something. So Ian believe me from experience you did the right thing by letting the dealer install them.

    I think you are really fast AND drank a lot of coffee! I’m stuck between the Guzzi 850 and the A660, if I had your off-road to ride I would go with the 660, but I’m 90% or better street, what to do? I’ve had 6 BMWs so fond of driveshaft, but I think the 660 is around 50 lbs lighter so better for my camping trips. I think I’d be happy with either but mostly cruising the beach so maybe Guzzi better plus I’m sure 2 up better on Guzzi

    You won't be upset with a MT-09 SP esp with ecu flash and exhaust. Track capable, accessories out already.

    The skid plate and crash bars look solid. The pannier rack just looks like stamped metal, curious how that would stand up to abuse vs more common tubular pannier rails.

    Oxford heated grips every day. They automatically turn off if you leave them on plus they are the best. MT09, it’s Japanese. He bought that special MT09 for sure after seeing the glint in his eye at the end.

    Suggestion for sport bike. You will regret any choice I think if you do not at least try the Triumph Street triple RS. Check out the Visor down review. The howl of the Triumph triple on the pipe must be experienced. I had a Daytona 675 I tracked for years that was so fun.

    Hey Ian,
    I finally got to swing a leg over a Tuareg down here in Australia and the first thing I noticed was the ungodly amount of heat the bike was spewing out on to my legs. I had to ride the entire time with my legs spread eagled out. I am guessing its not noticeable during winter up there in the northern hemisphere because it was basically a deal breaker for me on my test ride.
    Would love to hear your thoughts when the weather warms up for you.

    Will be interesting - how the Aprilias' program update went ( for that it should be ridden ) Like I mentioned before - on my and many others' Guzzies 85TT ( 2021 ) - that program update fu...ed up the CC and the power was dumped to 35KW ( which they claim, was fixed ). The CC - STILL not fixed yet !!!!!.

    I'm a sucker for European bikes, I own a Ducati, a Triumph, and a KTM. But if I were going to start doing track days (something I'm planning to do as well) I would either use one of my older bikes (the Ducati is 10 years and the Triumph is 11 years old this year) or buy Japanese. I'm interested in Suzuki's new parallel twin motor. They make very affordable bikes. Plus, a parallel twin 800cc motor is definitely not triggering a poser mode. LOL. It seems like you went for Yamaha's triple cylinder motor. I have a three cylinder motor on my Triumph, that's when I realize I like two cylinder motors better. You probably will tell your wife the content the new bike will bring, with track days and all, will more than pay the bike's cost (investment, of course).

    Hi Ian well done as always. I have been following this series closely rode a Tuareg at GetOnADV last year. My Africa Twin has 20k plus miles (zero issues) and was really loving the Aprilia but this dealer only service reset takes this bike off my list. Is there anything in the works for that?

    • @graw1953
      @graw1953 Рік тому

      Clearing the service light is only the the start of your costs once 8:47 the bike is at the dealer. At a minimum they will have to “reset” this or “clear” something.

      @@paulherron4289 no, I wouldn’t buy one for the reason you are tied to a dealer, even if it’s minimal servicing. I doubt you could leave just paying for a light reset. If you have faith / know your dealer, maybe then.
