How to Use Map Navigation with the BMW Motorrad Connected App and the new 10.25” TFT Display

- Learn in this video how to navigate with the BMW Motorrad Connected App and your BMW motorcycle.
Before you start your journey, click on the map tab to enter a destination in the BMW Motorrad Connected app. In the single search bar, enter a full address, including street and house number, or any type of partial address. Upon entering the first letters, likely destinations are suggested. You can also enter key words like names of points of interest. Select a destination you would like to go to, which you can add to your favourites by pressing the star symbol. Additionally, you can click on the blue ‘Calculating route’ symbol, for example to add waypoints by pressing ‘+’ and enter the address. Or zoom in the map, click and hold the location you wish to add and press ‘+’. You can also change the order of the waypoints. Under ‘OPTIONS’ you can set specific route options like a winding route without motorways. If you want to save this route, press the ‘Floppy disk’ symbol and name the route. Then press “GO” to start the navigation. Certain content of the smartphone, like the map, will be projected on the bike’s TFT Display when connected via Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. Once the connection is established, and map mode is active, your smartphone changes to screensaver mode. Do not lock your phone by pressing the on / off button and keep the app in the foreground. If you would like to use the app again, slowly swipe up the screen. Map mode will be deactivated until you are finished and press the map mode button manually again.

Crafting detailed routes on your phone sounds like hell. Great for A to B riding, but seems like you'll be hunting and pecking for hours if you want to get specific. Some things are just easier on a computer.
You can import GPX files
I can't get the map from the connected app to appear on the TFT. It only appears on my iPhone while the white square indicating the app is connected appears on the TFT. What am I doing wrong? Thanks.
I just purchased a 2023 F 850 GS Adventure and I can't get the map to display, only the instructions display. How do I make the TFT show the map?
You need the navigation base and phone become the map.
If your phone is on map mode would that drain your battery? & if i turn off the screen will that disconnect?
This is all well and good on a dry summers day or in a dealer showroom but what about when it's 3 degrees and raining or just raining, have you used a touch screen when it's wet. How are you meant to work this then? As I understand it, i can't just use a dedicated phone with a WiFi connection to keep the Nav alive whist my own personal phone is used for calls and media because BMW have designed this to need both the Bluetooth and WiFi connected to make the Nav work. The design of the phone storage for the K 16 and R18 have been designed in an office and not an outdoor motorbike environment. I want to find where I'm going whilst I'm in my house share it to my nav, put on my helmet and gloves. Then Go outside and, without a stupid amount of fiddling and the need to hook my personal phone to the bike whilst turning on Wi-Fi direct and other battery draining options drive off.
Please check out the My Bmw App for an example where you send your destination to the vehicle and it just works. You have a SIM card in the bike, please use it and store the maps in the TFT display so it all works in a turnkey way.

Question. Is this BMW Motorrad App runninng off the phone's cellular signal or does it have direct GPS? The previous models had a Garmin 6 which had direct connection to satellites.
I purchased a 2022 BMW K1600B Grand America about a month ago. I have not been able to get the Navigation "Spoken Instructions" working while in map mode. The folks at my dealership don't have answer for me. Is there someone at BMW that I can communicate with to see if I am having a "setting" problem, or if I am having a warranty issue?
Can I view the map on the motorcycle screen and not turn by turn directions?
Impossible to have the full screen with the direction instructions indicated directly on the map.
I don't understand why they get so complicated, that it's hard for them to include Carplay
It's not hard, they just don't want to. CarPlay is free for them to install, AndroidAuto is free for them. Instead they will rather sell their own Navigation device (or try to charge users annual subscription to use CarPlay)
Is it possible to open on Android alternative app during the navigation or BMW Connected with black screen should be always on screen?
The worst idea - screen mirroring. In a world of Android Auto or car Play you force as to screen mirroring :/
Solid German engineering. They take ideas made popular 20 years ago and will make them work just well. Not perfect, just OK. I think we can expect Android Auto/CarPlay about year 2040 (or when the rest of the Japanese competitors will adapt it, then suddenly they'll catch up)
not a good map, I used once, did not find the place. and never use after that, use phone for google map is much easier and frienlier.
Honda Africa twin has android auto to make life much easier

What happens when your navigation keeps disconnecting on a 2022 K1600 B grand America , using an iPhone 13, all day today would constant disconnect, but my music would still work. Same phone for music and navigation

This system sucks. My 2015 Harley had voice commands and I could navigate by voice. Why do I have this feature on a nearly 10-year-old bike, but my brand-new Grand America doesn't have it? What crap. Love the bike hate this system....

Hello Richard, the BMW Motorrad Connected app complies with GPX standard, therefore simply open the planned or ridden route you want to share as described here: support.bmw-motorrad.com/s/article/BMW-Motorrad-Connected-App-Navigation-Share-routes-93733. When selecting “export GPX” the AirDrop option will be promted on your iPhone. 🙂

Yeah, that means I probably can't put the phone in my pocket. So you'd have to mount your phone which would make the app kinda pointless

I'm at my wits end with this nav system. I have a 1250RT and the nav just keeps dropping out, and then it shrinks the maps to 65% size so I can't see the route any longer. I've reported it to BMW 3 times using the 'Report A Problem' function on the app. They acknowledge a problem with the "Autozoom" but it hasn't yet been fixed via a new update. £000s on a new bike with no navigation - just unacceptable. Great bike but may well need to move awaya from it as I tour a lot and need a reliable nav. Distraught! BMW do not seem to care.
The most worthless app I have ever tried to get to work. Never did on my R1250RS. I mounted a Garmin 665 on a Moto mount and now have immediate route inputs along with Satellite Radio. This app is garbage.

Hi there! Yes, as long as the TFT and your phone are connected via Bluetooth or WIFI, the map will be projected on the bike's TFT display 😊 Enjoy riding with your GS 1250!

This will be interesting if it now works on the pre-2021 bikes. I’ve had a GS1200 (2018, with TFT option) GS1250(2018) and GSA1250 (2020) none have worked as advertised. If it’s fixed all praise but so far it’s been a long journey of poor connectivity and zero satisfaction
Sorry to say nothing has improved, I took delivery of a new RT last month, maps / TFT / connectivity a big disappointment.
BMW should be hugely embarrassed.

Nick Hodge Hi Nick , just ploughing my way through website searches and what I'm finding is that BMW websites are saying that "connectivity is ensured using the BMW communications system " in other words buy the BMW communication system for your helmet to get the TFT maps to work and to get map guidance to your helmet etc .
Bit of a rip off it seems.

I had a test on sn R1250RT today
I used an old phone with no SIM and it worked fine
I just downloaded the relevant map via wifi before I went to the dealer

"Press the floopy disk symbol" on a video made in 2021? Seriously? I know that the R1250RT isn't exactly targeted at the younger audience, but this is still weird.
Or you could just subscribe to CaliMoto like I do and select one of four types of roads from Interstate to twisty to travel to your selected destination! When finished I can rate and save my rides. It's past time for BMW and other vehicle manufacturers to realize they can't match dedicated mapping software?
While I share your sentiment on the dedicated mapping software (I can't imagine commuting into inner city of the large metropolia on the BMW navigation instead of Waze), CaliMoto doesn't work for everyone. When I tried to use it few times all it did was telling me, always a little too late, to take a narrow, single lane farm roads (in parts of the year either dirty or with dangerous vehicles oncoming) instead of the beautiful, twisty roads pretty much next to it.
