Does anybody else want to give Will a big hug. Such a nice guy.
No, but I get what you mean, lol 😅
I bet he gives good hugs…big bear huggs😂
No, but I do want to hug the dogs.
I'd give Will a great, big hug. He's a beautiful soul who deserves a ton of love for all the good he does for these precious creatures and their often clueless owners. I've learned so much from Will. He certainly merits a hug from my foster Mastiff mix, my resident pitbull and me! We've all benefited tremendously from his videos.
This can also work for leash walks. If your dog is a puller and/or full of energy, a game of fetch before the leash walk can help.
Very true.
Wears my dog out all the time.
how will that work, you gotta walk or drive to the park first LOL
@@darkworlddigitalexports846not everyone lives in an apartment, a lot of the world have back yards
@@darkworlddigitalexports846 I'm driving when I can for exactly this reason.
We play the “find it” game inside on rainy days. I hide a high value treat, and they have to sniff all around the room to find it, it exhausts them and they love it!
Newly got a baby black lab girl and she’s five months next month watched all your tip videos thank you so much 😊
I just got a border collie puppy! Watching this despite having had rescue border collie in the past. Super keen to give her the absolute best start.
Awesome - well put together. Love the wrestle play and impulse control work with fetch.
My first dog was cocker spaniel sheltie cross. She was wonderful. She lived to be 17 years old. At age 14 she went on a 14 mile hike through the mountains. My second dog was a springer lab cross. She was also a great dog. There's something about those spaniels, I think it's those adorable eyes.
Always learn something new and useful. Thank you.
Beautiful! Thank you so much for this great and important video! 🙂
Love your content
I am so glad you said what you did about walking the dogs. My dog is great on the leash, and I started dog sitting recently, I find that I bond better to the dogs that are able to walk with us, versus the ones who never get walked by their owners/parents. There is something so magical about walking with dogs ❤❤
it baffles me some dog owners never walk their dog. because i live in an appartment i go for walks 3 times a day and if my boy tells me he needs to go potty i will take him again. If i lived in a house with a backyard i would imagine doing the same
Oh for sure! I live in a house with a fenced in backyard and we still walk twice a day every day. It’s actually the only times he does his business! The backyard is just for sunbathing 😂
Thanks again
Really wish I could have you around in Montreal, genuinely a nice guy and having an expert like you around would be a blessing with my dog

Thank you!!
I have an Aussie shepherd/lab mix. We take off leash hikes 2-3 hours nearby every day, rain or shine. Keeps us both happy
Great video very insightful and Sully is beautiful ❤
Superb
Fetching is like magic. I taught my puppy fetch, whenever he is getting energy overload, I throw him the ball for 10-15 minutes a day, and that's that for him.
Exercise body and mind. you're right on the money here.
High energy games serve you well. The dog sees it as work... work that they love.
A good bank of games also means if you're short on for time you can smash a few rounds of hi intensity and leave the dog much happier to relax.
My kids love the No hat to hat swipe
killer boots man
How do you teach fetch??
Bicycle is my method for wearing out my Staffies. 10 to 15 miles off road 3 times a week makes them really well behaved. I love my mountain bike anyway so everyone's a winner. Our longest ride was 29 miles in about 4½ hours moving time, total ride time 6 hrs. We had a nice pub dinner at halfway. We were all knackered.
Do you leash them while biking? Or they follow you?
@@erraticjoe499 a bit of both. I have a sprung arm that attaches to the seat pole. On cycle paths and pavements they trot to the left of me in a heel position leashed to the pole. Off road they are free to run, they know the commands: stop, go, cross (for crossing roads), left, right and LEAVE IT. That last one is most important for other dogs, squirrels, swans etc. I find they like to be running with me anyway and rarely stray where they shouldn't.
I live very close to a very large ancient park and also live in a city with more canals than Venice 🤣🤣
@patrickgrounds2157 haha thats awesome man thanks for sharing!
I think a lot of people under exercise dachshunds as well. They think they are toy dogs and they really aren’t
Love the video. Great to see videos without any dogs with cropped ears.
My dogs ear is cropped. That's how they show they are fixed here
niceone worked at treat
Will, we live in the Northeast US and it's getting very.cold with snow on the way. Any suggestions for exercise ideas for situations where outdoor exercise is very limited (for a puppy)?
I started out using a laser for my puppy Great Dane for morning and night time tire out.
If I throw something for my dog. He's like - you want me to do what mate?!
What leanth of leash should you get for boarder collie 17week puppy and whitch one is best
Can I use that gundog dummy for non retriever dogs just to play fetch? Like for my bichon frise?
I need ideas for a heeler who is being trained for a service dog. He won't fetch. I know he needs a job while training, any suggestions?
I’d love to see his pack walk where he allows the dogs to smell around on the leash. That’s the tricky part. I’d love to see any tips.
He always shows them walk like that after he’s tired them out.
do you want to pack walk? or do you want your single dog to walk, and sniff but still under control, when it jasn't already been exercised?
@@judymiller5154 I’m asking because I often walk 3+ dogs at a time and I want to know how he keeps the leashes from tangling.
I have 2 labs that are about 3 months old. 1 of them loves to play fetch and the other one doesn't and just likes to run around distracting the other one from bringing me the ball back.
It would be nice if I could get them to both want to get the ball.
I’ve got the same whistle as you 😂
👍😊
I have a Border Collie so well behaved in all situations but he’s not a retriever, he loves to play ball and run round with it in his mouth but only drops it close to me if he wants too. Although my first Collie used to drop it on my foot to throw my second one wasn’t ball driven . My present one is almost 6 so I guess he’s not going to change. But if you have any ideas on teaching him to fetch it to me I’d be grateful to hear it.
Teach him to leave it command, offer a treat when he drops it for you. If hes food driven, should work. Keep repeating until ingrained.
Where are you based will?
Why is the release word the dogs name? I’ve seen this before with gun dog trainers. Should I change my release word to my dogs name?
Hi everyone, i got 7 week old husky puppy a week ago, can anyone tell me how many times should i feed him. I am currently feeding him 4 times a day but he is only eating 2 meals completey and 2 half. Please someone help
I've gotten real good at throwing frisbee since getting a cattle dog
Do you have any tips for dogs that lose concentration quickly or get easily distracted? I have a husky and whilst he loves games like fetch for high energy release he quickly finds something else that smells better or looses interest in the chase which makes keeping his focus on me really difficult!
You chose a very independant breed whose instinct is to run ahead of the owner, with a team, and cover many miles a day with minimal direction (I have a lab and we live on mountain acreage, but she always wants to be at my side (or on my lap), unless I've thrown something for her to fetch. Her recall is 99%, even when free-running in full pursuit of a cat or rabbit!) You have to find something your dog loves more than the distractions - train before meals (let her be hungry), use a long line, and try meat as rewards. Good luck 👍
@@judymiller5154 Ahh your lab sounds lovely :) We have done so much training and he is always walked on a long line, his recall is pretty good but there's times where i may as well not exist so I just can't trust without that line. We use meat as treats but nothing compares to a rabbit in a hedge or a squirrel up a tree. He loves fetch but becomes bored or distracted so easily, it's hard to keep him engaged. At home he is 100%. I guess it is just his breed, they're known for it aren't they!
@@taylorjanejennings yes, we must enjoy their ingrained instincts, even the annoying ones. My girl is only allowed on one couch and often overwhelms my lap l, always licking any skin she can find, brought me her canvas dummy right in my face while I'm doing situps 🤣😂🤣
Training "Fetch+Stay" for a couple of weeks now. She knows it, but I still need physical control over her - down to 1 finger on the collar, but that is still needed. Otherwise my 'stay' command is totally ignored (Border+Aussie-Mix), currently wearing me more out than her ... oO
Same with my border pit mix. Border collie engery is no joke.
Hopefully once she gets more used to it she will realise that she won't get the ball unless she listens to you for the command
@@robinandbiscuit1683 Thanks for the encouragement! We practice every day ... her strategy and stubbornness are legendary ;))
Keep changing directions constantly. Don't make the change predictable
The problem i have with my spaniel is he loves fetch, however he doesnt love bringing the ball back to me and it puts me off playing it with him as he just wants me to chase him and especially when its time to leave the park its hard to get him back to put on the lead if he has the ball, if he doesnt have the ball then his recall is pretty perfect, hes not treat driven either so i dont even know what to do to get him to bring the ball back, i tried two balls but he just chases the other ball with the current one in his mouth so i have to run to where i threw the ball to get the one hes dropped anyway, in the house its a different story, he wont stop giving us the ball to throw for him
Son in law runs with the dog or takes him when bike riding. How do I slow Ollie down when walking if he's used to running?
After watching some toxic and people bringing political issues into their videos. You are my favorite dog trainer
Any tips on how to get your dog to bring back the ball/stick/whatever? My dog will gladly chase it, but then expects me to chase after her to get it back
What if they don’t like playing fetch?
My lab gets a huge amount of exercise, its when he is tired just before he sleeps he is destructive.
We live on mountain acreage with our 1 yr lab, plenty of room to run, but she always wants to be with me. I am often outside feeding/working horses, checking fenceline, taking her on free-runs and long leash-walks. Sometimes its not enough, though, and she gets demanding after dinner, right when I'm ready to sit. What works! 1) fetch down the hall while I watch tv, 2) long fetch with the chuckit while I sit on the patio watching youtube on my phone, 3) big, raw soup bone or bully stick. I'm 77, so she really is a challenge, but way better than knitting!
My dog doesnt play fetch can she learn how to
Do you have any tips for dogs that are scared of new people coming into the house? Outside of the house she absolutely loves everyone, shes very silly and loveable. But we can only have my mum and my brother in law come inside. We did let a friend come inside the other day and she was scared (her hackles were up) but he was very relaxed and completely ignored her. She was brave enough to sniff him and then went to lay down in her bed. She comes across very aggressive but its definitely fear shes feeling.
Get friends to offwr treats when they come in. If not get thek to theow little treats to her
I have a xl bully and it keeps on biting can you give me any advice❤
Fetch is great but I think an important point almost all videos like these miss is that the best thing you can do for your dogs exercise is often to work on your own exercise. This is because most people who ask "how can I tire out my dog" are doing so because they walk their dog less than it needs and they use time or mobility or age (I've heard all sorts of other incredibly irrelevant things) as an excuse and 9 times out of 10 it's just that- an excuse when they're looking for an easier or no-effort way to feel guilt free. The best solution then is to increase the time spent with and on taking care of the dog while doubling as a great excuse to improve general fitness and health- by walking harder routes, walking with faster, jogging, getting a bicycle or e-bike, or whatever else helps you get in a few more miles per day for the same amount of time, or even just adding more time.
Okay so my dog will bring back to me but then he willnot let go and seems to be a little aggressive
I read that for a puppy the recommended time is 5 minutes per month, my puppy (Black Lab) is 3 months and I’m sure 15 minutes does nothing for him.
Literally every heeler owner who works in an office is watching this
My dog fetches once and then just wants to play keepaway. I guess it figures i need the exercise? Lol
atm I’m trying to figure out when my 4month dog is about to go to the toilet when playing. 😅
Ok but some trainer dude posted on a fb dog park page how dangerous playing fetch is with your dog….?!
‘Some trainer dude’ is probably where your answer lies-what are his qualifications? Are they nationally recognised? FB is full of ignorant know-it-alls regarding dog behaviour. Will isn’t one of them.
Have you ever worked with a black mouth cur ? I just don't see very much content on UA-cam

Human needs exercise too.
I'll do the daily dog walking if someone wants to give me a well- trained dog.
Please help me. I adopted a two-year-old German Shepherd dog and she lived with me in the house for two and a half years. I took care of her daily and took her with me everywhere. She followed me wherever I went, from the living room to the bedroom. She slept with me in the same room. We were not apart for an hour. The only day I left her at my friend’s house. I only had an appointment with my doctor for 4 hours. When I returned, I did not find her. When I looked at the camera, two children, 14 years old and 12 years old, came and played with her. I went out with them. After two months of searching, I found her in one of the dog care centers. I was shocked when I saw her. She had lost a lot of weight, was dirty, and had her tail cut off. I did not know. The reason is that when I took her out of the cage, she was happy and ran and played with me and moved away from me. Whenever I tried to call her, she came for a few seconds, jumped and licked my hands and face and went away, sitting or sniffing the ground several times, and when I left, she did not care or try to catch up with me. Why did I become very sad and shocked? What should I do? I love her and am very attached to her. She was like, “What should I do? I live in Jordan.”
Everybody who has a dog should research the B.A.R.F. diet and switch there animals over. Your dog will love you even more
