the editing and quality of your videos is top notch! I would love to see more Horizon melee guides, especially on big machines like the Thunderjaw or Slitherfang. I’ve taken them down before on VH using a Melee build, but they weren’t my cleanest kills. Maybe you have a more effective method? Also, I really liked what you did with the Boltblaster for the Tremortusk. Warrior Bows are my go-to for triggering resonators but never a Boltblaster, so I’ll try this next time.
Appreciate this comment! I hadn't considered making a melee guide for larger machines, since most of them can be tricky with "only" melee (Tremortusk's being really the only exception since they stagger pretty easily and are slower in comparison). But i'll definitely keep trying out different methods on other large machines and maybe make a video on it in the future. Definitely give the bolt blaster method a try... hearing the resonators trigger one after a another so quickly is music to my ears 🤯
Clean kills on big machines, don´t think that´s really possible on UH. Taking them down though, many are. The purer the Melee (like no resonator triggering) the harder it gets. As not using Melee Might, which Knockdown vs Heavy becomes very valuable. Biggest Problem on some heavy machine is the Melee Aim System does not work reliable, so Aloy attacks into the void, or throw herself at the body of the enemy, gets staggered and attack interrupted. TJ are somewhat hard to hit (best go for the head), you can sometimes hit the legs, but the stomping makes it hard, and occasional some pot shots (swings) at the tail. Slitherfangs make Aloy really prone to jump herself at their body, guessing the right distance is reall hard on the moving slitherfang...and then those snakes also have the habit to run away from Aloy if you do get a few got hits in, and you can chase them across the whole area. Oh and don´t think something like a Behemoth is easy, those are nasty (well, Power Attack and Melee Might...but without Melee Might). The Fight with the Ravager and Behemoth at the start of Gemini was toughest fight in my Melee Run. The Defensive AoE of both, the uneven ground to get stuck everywhere. Slaughterspine at the end was easier.
It is wild that you are expanding my mind on how in-depth all the optional combat aspects of this game have to offer when I never really considered mainly besides for doing a full charge up to knock down enemies
The method you show the outfits is very cool! I would love to see melee combination explanation video, I feel like most of the combos are far to complax to do in an actual fight
Edit: Update, Triggering Resonator Blast with Elemental Ammo, is likely dependant on the Difficulty, namly normal or lower. On Custom Difficulty it´s seems to be based on the Enemy HP Modifier. Nice video, i even learned something (Staggerbeams triggering Resonators) but then i got worried... Elemental Arrows work on Humans to trigger Resonators? This cannot be! I´m sure, when i tested it, it did not...so no Phantom Liberty, first some testing, Results: Boltblaster Elemental Bolts = None worked for triggering the Resonator. Warrior Bow = All Elemental Arrows worked, even Adhesive. Sharpshot Bow = Only Regular Plasma Arrow worked, Advanced Plasma did not work. Hunter Bows = All Regular Elemental Arrows worked, even Berserker. Advanced Shock Arrows worked. ALL OTHER Hunter Bow Advanced Arrows, did NOT WORK with Resonator Blast triggering. Tested, today, past hour or so on PS5 with Burning Shores. That explains a lot for me, why i always said, they don´t work and Ahtano said and showed that it does, what it does not explain is, what Guerilla was thinking in designing that...well it´s the Netherlands, Lands are Low, their minds sky "High".... Resonator Application Damage. Passive Skill Resonator Damage, Levels 0-4 = 30/45/60/75/90; Enduring Bonus gives +25%. The Damage is simply added to the Hit Damage. It has it´s own unknown knockdown power value, which means, that sometimes a Knockdown can be triggered on a application to the Leg of a Medium or Heavy Machine. Not sure if it was fixed with BS though. One Big Advantage of the Resonator Blast is, that the damage of the Shot is just not simply added to the Blast, but since you hit the Blast, Armor Plates are ignored.
When I started scripting the video I was convinced Staggerbeams would not trigger resonators, but I proved myself wrong haha It’s odd that the advanced elemental hunter arrows don’t trigger the resonators but the regular ones do? I’m gonna guess it’s a bug or something, who knows… or maybe they shouldn’t even be causing the trigger in the first place? 🤷 We may never know! ALSO, i noticed later on that the Melee Detonator technique on the Warrior Bows triggers resonators as well, but the detonator is destroyed unfortunately… wondering if other weapon techniques can do the same? Totally forgot the Enduring bonus… thanks for reminding me of this! I think you’re correct about Resonator Application sometimes causing a knockdown when attached to machine’s leg… don’t have quantifiable data but through the hours I spent making the video it seemed machines got knocked down every so often from attachments (even the Tremortusk towards the end of the video was knocked down from a basic heavy attack w/ attachment… melee might was active however)
@@ahtano Don´t play traps, no patience for that, so i never tried those. If i remember correctly to trigger "hit with impact damage", not sure if it was tutorial, or strategy guide. So Staggerbeam is Impact damage. Tearblast has a very small Impact Part too, so it works, as does the Melee Detonator, so if other weapon technique can trigger it, depends if they are impact or not, or have a bug like the Hunter Arrows. Just got an idea, i never tested for, one machines, secondary effect (like from Spikes, the explosion, or melee detonator etc.) get never to trigger, due the consumption of the projectile....Spike Throwers (Elemental) on Human trigger instantly..do they work and explode on Humans with Resonators too? And maybe Spike Trap is bugged, and triggers resonator too (they are special ammo and of the element of the spear, so fire or plasma). Have you tried it? About the knockdown, you do remember my Melee Sheet, 1 page i listed machine i got it to work with back then. Was one of the few places, where the half charged power attack (Horizontal Slash, like the End of the Block Breaker) was of any use to hit the right hit zone. Melee Might needs Power Attack to trigger heavies, but Critical Boost seems to have a a bonus to knockdown, or at least provoke 1 knockdown at the beginning, could also work with melee (it works with Elemental Shredders...which don´t have knockdown, only the explosion at the end). @@paristeta5483 elemental Spike throwers work as intended on human enemies, tested with Plasma Spikes. They also trigger resonators while inflicting elemental buildup which is good. Spike Trap would kill the target every time (on very hard) so can’t confirm any data on them at the moment. Drill spikes trigger resonators also, and don’t get destroyed after so they continue dealing the drill damage for a few seconds. Felt like testing canister harpoons as well since I had time… they do trigger resonators since attaching them deals a small amount of impact damage, but the canister is immediately detached from the target and falls to the ground. It can still be triggered on the ground though (tested with Tie That Binds explosive canisters)
@@paristeta5483 hmm good point. I believe they do fall to the ground every time now that you mention it, but still good to know that they trigger resonators without destroying the canister

You mentioned that resonators can't be triggered with one shot if they're inline, but blocked by the machine's body. Is this the same result if you use a strikethrough arrow? Great video, as always!
Yes the same for strikethrough arrows unfortunately… but they are able to pass through a machine’s body and trigger a resonator on the other side, just not two resonators lined up!
I’ve been using the ancestors return almost exclusively while fighting small and medium machines and I am wondering if the resonator damage also effect the machine grapple strike since I’ve find myself using that a lot.
Sorry answer is a late. Usualy the first Arrow hitting it triggers the Resonator, and the rest Arrows vanish. So better use single shot for a single resonator and not triple notch, becuase you get only the 70% damage of one arrow.
Does anyone know exactly how much more damage the new DLC Stealth Resonator upgrade increases your Stealth Strikes by? If the increase isn't significant then I'm not going to bother wasting my Skill Points on it.
@@Eugene-uh7xj Because it matters how you spend your skill points, specially early on. Not all skills are created equal. Some make a huge difference in your strength & abilities as you go.
