1:07:40 One vital thing to keep in mind in this game is the concept of "boost cannibalization". You don't want to trick when a boost panel is coming, since the boost you'd get from the trick would be cannibalized by the panel. Since you get more air when tricking (thus, you go slower), the best thing to do is to charge MTs in mid air, only to release them after the boost panels. This is very important on tracks like Wario Stadium, Waluigi Pinball, Wild Woods... And in every track where you have boost panels near ramps (or boost panels in general)
to answer ur question, the vast majority of top players dont play with motion, but its not hard to very quickly toggle motion either on a trick or during a miniturbo. Very worth it for tracks like mario kart stadium and dolphin shoals where the motion glider saves vast amount of time, and more than worth learning
40:40 the reason the koopa clown and the ancient tires are being used is because they have high traction which is really good for dk summit. Yoshi has a good traction stat aswell.
Hey Troy, I've got some sunshine airport notes for you. The plane trick is slower unfortunately. We actually get to the plane too fast before it is in a trickable position. We have tried slowing down intentionally to get the trick, but the trick boost isn't faster than optimal driving. Secondly, the hardest part of this track is actually right after the cannon glider. the SMT (orange) into UMT (purple) is extremely difficult to squeeze out and is definitely the most advanced strat on the track. Most players should go for just a tight line here with an MT (blue) into UMT (purple).
2:39:36 the reason for hopping through the uphill waterfall section in shy guy falls is purely because the water is flowing against you, so it slows you down. It’s the same idea as hopping through the offroad to maintain as much speed
33:00. I think the original 48 are better in detail and I prefer their art style, but the Booster Course Pass tracks play a lot better, I prefer their retro choices, and have some cool tech like half pipes and such.
8:54 the reason they use the streetle on these tracks is because it gets a huge underwater speed bonus, like +4 or 5 so it’s stat total is OP in water. However it’s not really worth using over teddybuggy or Scooty in online bc there aren’t many water tracks
Simply incredible, Troy! You actually stole every 150cc record! I never thought anyone could do it, but clearly I misread the caliber of your unchallenged skill! For this masterpiece of a video, I renounce my unsubscription! I hope you can forgive me for unsubscribing all those years ago.
@@Vs-arenahave you seen troy’s driving skill in this video? He beat every world record! It’s hard to not be a fan of that. And he’s humble, too, acting like it was someone else. What a guy!
To answer your question, using a mushroom at the very start of a race is optimal, but not because the section is awkward to drive. The acceleration at the very start of a race is slow, often slower than a small shortcut. It's optimal to use a mushroom at the start in one of 3 cases. 1: The track doesn't have any shortcuts (like Wii Rainbow Road or Water Park). 2: The best shortcut on the track (or shortcuts if it's a city track) doesn't save enough time over using your mushroom at the very start of the race (like Amsterdam Drift or Wii U Rainbow Road). 3. You end up going around for coins on lap 1 regardless of how big the shortcut is because of how important coins are (like Moo Moo Meadows or Ninja Hideaway). Sometimes, you don't use a mushroom at the start of a race when there are no shortcuts. This is because of the cycles of obstacles (or track elements like wavy road) and if you use a mushroom immediately, they'll get in your way and you'll have to purposefully slow down, or the cycles won't be in the fastest position. Examples of this are Toad's Turnpike and N64 Rainbow Road.
The longest video Troy ever did including streams was the combo sabotage stream he did. He also did a 3 hour and 30 minute stream with an old friend on Halloween once.
@@connor9568 Yep, they're nostalgic for me because that was a cool era for custom tracks and it was also Troy in his prime days. They're all unlisted now, but I saved them by making playlists.
Hey Troy, I play competitive Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and I can tell you that motion controls do in fact get used on this game online, especially by the top players in Lounge. We change the button mapping on our controller to make it much easier for example, I map my + to R and my Y to L so if I ever need to turn on motion controls, I just tap R L R and boom it's on. Even smart steering gets used competitively, on DK Summit, if you pull a golden or triple shrooms, you can use the ridge to shroom and launch yourself over the gap and in midair, you turn on smart steering and when you land, shroom again and the smart steering in combination with the shroom landing keeps your speed and is quicker than the normal double cut. For motion glider, off the top of my head I know it is used for the ending of Mario Kart Stadium, Dolphin Shoals, the 1st glider with smart steering as well for N64 Rainbow Road. I've even seen it used on the final glider on lap 3 on Squeaky Clean Sprint. There are probably more but those are the ones that come to mind. I don't use them myself as it can be a hassle to learn and online you have to pre-turn on motion controls mid-lap and play to the glider you're motioning on with motion controls and for me that's very difficult but I do use it in my time trials.
2:42:28 For a second I thought you were saying "what the varmint" as an exclamation (like "what the heck"). I'm definitely going to start saying that out of context to annoy my friends 😆

Not sure if this is something you are open to doing but I think for other reaction videos you could do it would be cool to see this type of video reacting to every world record for other Mario Kart games that you don't normally feature on your channel. DS and Super Circuit come to mind as ones that would cool to see that for but really it could work for any Mario Kart game.
I Decided, Not Only To See The Entire Video, But Use The Same Combos As The Once On Every Track, In Order To Better Every Time Trial On My Switch. And This Took Me 3 Days. 1:57:07 I have practiced this track a little bit and it feels really consistent and easy to do. The problem is getting bonked or getting shocked before or during the shortcut if you play this track online.
2:38:58 Tanooki Mario shares the same stats as Inkling Boy and Male Villager, having almost the same stats as the meta but having less traction in favor of more weight than said meta

Y'know, if there's one thing that really amuses me as a casual player... it's that once again, through sheer dumb luck, my favorite general combination has turned into "the meta". Or at least, "french vanilla". (Online, I mean, not for Time Trials!) Yoshi has always been my favorite character, and I started using the Rollers and Cloud Glider alongside the Yoshi Bike (little red yoshi boots!!!!!!!) around Wave 3 or 4. And if the Builder website is to be believed, the Yoshi Bike's stats are - aside from the inside-drift - pretty much identical to the karts people always talk about (Cat, Teddy, etc). Granted, the Yoshi Bike might not be exactly meta, and I'm certainly nowhere close to this kinda skill level, but it's very funny to me. ...I also feel like Yoshi is a much better character to be "meta" than some others. At least Yoshi/Birdo have so many color options, so they're less samey!
It would probably take 30+min longer but in shortcat's pro guide, in the description he has a link to shroomless WR's, that would be a cool one to react to cause that would be more applicable

Coconut mall mushroom cut at the start with the bonk is actually way easier than trying to take the cut normally! Just hook it tight to the last bit of wall, then do a little wide drift. Easy!
Also Troy, there is a great video made by pii on the history of the ribbon road world record that is really great and explains all of that tech and the pace break extremely well. I think you might find it interesting!

To answer the question about which 48 I like the most, I think I will go with the original 48 ones bc the new ones are mostly all ripped out of tour including the "new" ones which are not, they were new on tour, not on 8 deluxe but I think they called them new bc they wanted to keep the "tour" title to the city tracks.. (even the ones from the other games were ripped out of tour) so the graphics look a lot worse than the original ones (take the grass of 3DS Toad Circuit as an example).. also there are so many alternate ways and lastly I would like to add that they removed so many cute details from some of the older tracks from the other games.. but yea, I still love the booster pack though :)
For Boo lake and Piranha Plant Slide and probably some other tracks you keep the momentum of the Kusaan Slide midair and switch your drift direction to not lose speed and use the Kusaan Slide Speed still.
