My channel generally focuses on a more casual side of speedruns. With these videos I want to show off cool speedruns, explain how they work, and entertain. Hopefully you enjoy the content and maybe even take up speedrunning yourself, because it is truly a lot of fun!

According to Don Shnack, the rival characters are based of what character *YOU* picked. There is a spreadsheet on it somewhere online.
I checked that out and it's Donkey Kong and Toad for Yoshi, so that tracks.
I believe second wind also explains the AI a bit including "The Chosen One"
And yeah the whole rival system means CPUs will take better lines to get you and be more aggressive overall
I usually play as Iggy and Ludwig and Toadette are my worst enemies. The amount of times I've cussed out Ludwig von Koopa is embarrassing lmaoo

Hearing him say that the wii rainbow road was his favorite healed my poor inner child so much. Everyone used to get mad at me for wanting to play it all the time but it's the best race ever and I feel very validated
If they got mad, it's probably just a skill issue.
Rainbow Road on Wii is my guilty pleasure i LOVE It and hate it at the same time
Me and my sister would play that for hours rainbow road was hard but that only made winning sweeter
The mall was my favorite map personally but rainbow road from the wii will always make me feel warm and fuzzy inside
Out of all the MK8 maps, RRW is definitely one of my favorites! (I also really like Electrodome.) It's gorgeous and so fun to play on, even with the challenges. :)

4:40 Can confirm in this game specifically they made items distance based instead of placement based. In most Mario Kart games you're limited to a set of items, Wii for example you'll get items like green shells, bananas and the occasional mushroom in second but you'll never pull a Golden, Lightning or Bullet, but in 8/Deluxe if someone is far enough ahead you can pull the shock, bullet or blue shell in 3rd or 4th. Cheese Land and Dry Dry Desert are prime examples of this item system in effect, especially when playing online
Fun fact if you are in 9th place or worse it also bars you from getting things like piranha plants bananas and basically anything that isn't a speed item but it's still also distance based so if you are in 12 place but everyone is super close to first you'll probably only get triple shrooms or stars but if you're far from first and in 9th you can pull bullets shocks and goldens
Yes the items are distance based but they are Also placement based
In MK8 on Wii U the items are only distance based but on MK8DX they're both distance and placement based
I never owned a WiiU so I was unaware of the position addition in Deluxe, I just knew that in both items were distance instead of solely based on position
The item pool is based on placement, the probabilities are based mostly on distance from 1st.

the reason why donkey kong is always messing with you is bc certain characters that you pick have rival characters who will do better than the other cpus
Donkey kong and Toad are the rivals of yoshi and peach , and there's a chart that you can look up that shows the rivals of all the characters
Best desert is without a doubt in my mind pumpkin pie
I feel like this would be faster if you used Mr Scooty or Biddy buggy considering it makes frontrunning easier, I couldn't tell if you were doing low tricks but the way to do them is holding forward on the steering stick, there is also a tech called motion glider which means if you have motion controls on you can stack steering and go way faster in a glider, I think he might be using a thing called soft drifting where you swap the stick between 2 positions to charge up mini turbo fast even on smooth large corners the positions are in a 40° angle up with the direction you started the drift and straight out on the other side
6:16 if you charge up an orange mini turbo you can cut that grass area saving a bit of time
9:50 if you hop once while in the grass you preserve more speed making that faster
13:17 getting a blue mini turbo is typically better than tricking off of the regular glider ramps
16:32 , 33:01 you are likely talking about super bounces which launch you way faster than normal the way it works is if you have a boost that isn't from boost panels and it activates before landing on the bouncy thing it launches you way further it can be used to set up for some shortcuts like mushroom gorge gap cut
16:45 instead of tricking into the glider cannon it's faster to hop and hit the end of the glider ramp since you can land sooner and driving is almost always faster than gliding
22:18 instead of hitting the spin booster you can charge up an orange mini turbo in the air which is a decent bit faster because spin boosters temporarily slow you down
24:56 the off-road there isn't that strong so charging an orange mini turbo through it is faster and honestly kinda easier than going around
25:08 there is a harder version of this shortcut that uses an orange mini turbo that saves a little more time but is a little bit more difficult
31:26 if you have a combo with 18+ mini turbo stat you can charge an orange mini turbo and hop over that small grass patch saving some time it's also possible on 150cc
31:45 you could charge a mini rurbi and hop to the ramp which also saves some time
40:16 that's called item lag and it's a bug fun fact sometimes it's so bad that it just gives wrong items like mushrooms in 1st place
41:30 if you ever have trouble tricking on things if you use pro con or joy con you can shake the controller
46:54 this is also something you can do on 150cc
48:00 fun fact there is I believe 216 different layouts for this track
48:54 if you land on that grass ramp with a mini turbo you can get the trick making the next turn easier or you could be insane and try and get a mini turbo and hop the gap next to the track grass
50:30 idk if you couldn't get the shortcut or if you don't know how to do it but you can get an orange mini turbo and take the inside shortcut pretty easily on 200cc
51:44 , 52:57 those striped parts are trickable
1:05:40 if you charge up an orange mini turbo and hop through the off road it's faster than going around
1:07:14 each path has a short cut the left on has the bigger but much harder shortcut where you cut out the 2 turns after and on the right path there is a much easier shortcut that cuts out 1 turn if you want to see the bigger one just search big blue big shortcut or something like that
1:10:10 if you charge up an orange mini turbo and hop before the off road you can reach the ramp saving a decent bit of time
1:12:39 if you have motion glider on or a mushroom taking the top path let's you do a kinda big shortcut
1:13:58 you can get an orange mini turbo and hop to the ramp saving time
1:16:40 you can also do this pretty easily on 150cc you just have to charge up an orange mini turbo before use it and charge up a blue when back on normal ground
1:20:44 if you start charging it earlier you can cut that small dirt patch and save some time even on 150cc
1:25:56 fun fact this track has the most time saving shortcut if you want to see it search gba snow land shortcut it'll probably show up
1:28:55 there is a way to cut the turn but it's really annoying to do
1:31:38 you can do that shortcut without a mushroom but it's really hard
1:31:45 if you can ride the rails you can get lower tricks saver time
1:33:06 kinda true but it's faster if you trick off the pipe near the track that's slightly right of the kart on screen
1:34:27 its absolutely worth going off-road when playing online so you can likely get a triple item making the section after the cannon safer
1:38:08 you can also do this on 150cc but after getting out of the grass you have to charge up a mini turbo
1:45:43 if you practice double gap cut its super easy and should be gone for every time
1:45:49 its actually better to go on the inside ramps because you can get the boost twice drift and get a boost that essentially cuts the last turn
1:47:22 if you drift instead of trick you can get a purple mini turbo which is much better than a trick boost
1:50:22 the offroad is weak there so if you charge an orange mini turbo its faster than going all the way around
1:51:37 if you start a drift over the ramp you can drive on the wall and do the skip without a mushroom
1:53:20 that white lip is trickable
1:58:38 its faster to drift and charge an orange mini turbo than trick
1:58:44 its faster to charge an orange mini turbo land on the second set of sponges start another drift and get a purple into the drain
2:01:25 you can drive up the lip on the curb and do a small shortcut without a mushroom
2:01:46 if you drift tight enough and hop you can cut off that off road which is slightly faster
2:03:26 you can hold the drift enough to just drive through the water because this isnt mario kart wii and it doesnt immediately send you into the abyss if you dont use a mushroom
2:08:17 if you drifted off the second ramp and got a mini turbo trick you can jump over that wall going much faster
2:08:30 its much easier on 150cc
2:10:32 the sidewalk is faster than the main road its also safer since red shells dont usually go up there
2:11:44 if you drift youcan skip that entire turn and get a purple mini turbo its not even hard to do just hold down and right and land on the onion looking thing than hold full right and release the mini turbo before landing in the sand, also on the second jump into the water you can do the same thing but you can just hold straight down maybe a little right you can also do the same thing at 2:12:13 but that one is much harder than the other 2 and can only be done with a mushroom on 150 or 200
2:13:43 if you go slightly right instead of drifting there is a small gap in the tables which is basically a shortcut
2:13:54 useless fact if you go to the right of the statue there are some coins its also way slower

Hey Eazy, I just wanna say that the reason the Boomerang and Cherry Cups have two city courses is basically because Tour’s cities and to a lesser extent, its 7 non-city nitros were all mandatory inclusions for the BCP. We only have it because of them. And since there are only 12 cups and 14 cities, 2 of the cups needed to have an extra city course in them so they could all be included.
1:53:03 So actually, a lot of the cups of the booster course pass have two tour tracks, Nintendo just decided to not label such as being from tour if they weren't city tracks. So for example, tracks like Ninja Hideaway, Merry Mountain, and Piranha Plant Cove do come from tour, they're just disguised as not being as such for some odd reason
It’s probably because they’re not actually based on real world cities which is why those 6 courses don’t have a Tour prefix, even though they should because we can expect to see Piranha Plant Pipeline in the next game, which absolutely has to have the Tour prefix

Item strategy is definitely very important and you touched on the fact that you can only have one coin in first and you have the highest chance to get a coin in first(70%), but you can use this knowledge on another level. Basically if you are in first, have a protection item, and a coin in your second item slot, at the next item set you should cycle the banana as long as 2nd place is far enough away, so if a boo steals your item, it will steal your coin instead of protection, therefore extending your protection for longer. At 7:27 you said there was no point in switching items but I would have recommended cycling the banana.

I think this is the first time I've ever actually known most of the speedrun tricks just because I'm obsessed with MK8DX tech 😅
Mario Kart, the Crash racing games, and I think the Sonic racing games too all are confirmed to give you specific items based on your placement. 1st tends to have the worst item pool while last has the best.
Also, there may be rubberband AI in some of the games too. They really make you earn that win if you stay in 1st the whole time.

I have very annoying memories of this game bc the only time I've ever played it was with my little cousin and he put it on the easiest setting, held a red shell and threw it at me every time I got close. When I put it on the next difficulty setting, he closed the game and switched to Netflix.

In Baby Park, just watch back the footage again, knowing Pauline was second. You had almost lapped her by lap 7, & even with the shells & lightning only made it back to half a lap behind when you finished.

I played a ton of mario kart on my nintendo ds, and you best believe I spent hours every day beating all the challenge times for the tracks, perfecting how to essentially min max every second of my time racing to the point that simply driving normally and drifting normally wasn't enough. in order to beat the cheating ai I would watch their every move and I found that I was not fast enough on drifting as the ai would get a purple drift in like 1.5 seconds just drifting normally and my solution was just to spam purple wiggle drifts as much as I could to counter them. my poor ds d-pad was pretty beat up by the end with how much I was mashing the left and right. I think I was getting a purple drift boost every .3 seconds or something and spamming 2 or 3 every turn. eventually I swapped to spending hours on pokemon before migrating to xbox 360 to play halo 3/odst/reach. still, it was fun being so dedicated to "beating" a game so I don't consider the time wasted.

Mario kart can bring the meanest version of me out. In toad harbor, if I'm ever playing with someone who I know doesn't really know the game after one lap I tell them that there is a short cut if you go right just past start/finish where the cones are. Pretty much everyone falls for it

Would have been fun to see some motion glider ngl, but hey that takes a lot of time to actually get down so I don’t blame you for not really doing it lol.
You should speedrun all the Pre-Civilization games (Pre-Civilization Bronze Age, and the other games).
