I spent a lot of my teens pressured into not feeling. My thoughts and mindset being that I should be logical, rational. Not genuine. I have since spent a lot of my short, ever so short adult life span (just four years now) breaking the facade and becoming more passionate, letting my emotions show. And being better than I ever was in my teens. When you got the record and proved that you had it, that you could do something beyond what you could do in your teens. It was inspiring. Amazing movie man, loved it and am looking forward to what you achieve and put out in the future :)
Thank you so much!! Being just the right amount of emotional will amplify the experience of everything good and bad, and both extremes are necessary to push yourself to the max! You cannot underestimate the psychological advantage of caring a lot 💪
This entire speech about confidence from 48:12 - 50:45 is just incredible, Shortcat... (Congrats btw :D) "...when you do everything right, but it just wasn't enough. All you can do is reset and try again. Even though you were so close you could almost feel it, you don't get to have it. And you may as well forget you were even there. But at the same time, close calls like these are extremely important. Even though I have failed to achieve my goal, in a way, this close call is a success. Because from this run, I gain confidence...if I fail... no, when I fail, simply knowing that I do have a chance to succeed is enough to get me to try again. Maybe next time I'll succeed. And if not, maybe the one after, or after that. It will happen eventually, and I'm not just hoping. Hope is not based on anything, and in the face of failure after failure, hope can quickly turn into doubt. But I'm not hoping. I'm confident that I will do it. What I've learned from all these close calls is not that I'm a failure, but that I can repeatedly set myself up for a small chance at success. And that is why I keep trying." (some words are changed for generalization)
Yea honestly even watching that was pissing me off lol. I play smash and whenever I see the number "2" next to my name I get pissed so I can't even imagine someone directly telling me I lose would make me feel
Shortcat, I really admire your mindset when playing this game. Even though you've had multiple heartbreaking failures, your reaction always was "I was so close, let's try again!". You have this positive mindset in online races as well, instead of getting mad at other players, you congratulate them for getting good plays. This is not an easy mindset to maintain, and I applaud you for your achievements! Congratulations!
As an older youtuber who put 2000 hours into Mario Kart 8 U, and had a Canadian top 10 on MW, I really REALLY related to and enjoyed this video. Excellent pacing and editing, and I remember a lot of what you went through despite never reaching the same highs myself. I actually remember a day where Diogo (one of the gods on 8u) coached me on rYV on stream at 5am lol, kind of took me under his wing to help me improve and that's something I look back on even today as being really special. So when Alberto helped you out it really hit home how the MK community doesn't ever change in morals, it just changes hands to new characters. Great people helping other great people want to achieve great things. Congrats on your ww tops, that lap 3 made me cry I was really hoping you'd end up with a mid .4, but I guess that's what keeps us all coming back to these games ahha, always wanting more. Great video and congrats on the success
I'm doubly excited as I'm going back through old shortcat videos. I'm nearly finished watching the "best combo of every character" which is 1hr30mins so now I've got this to look forward to!
It is honestly insane just how talented of a player shortcat is. It took him TWO YEARS of playing this game seriously to get a top 10 time in the world, something that most of us could never dream of doing. Even looking at his first video posted, the difference in his driving skill is night and day. I'm so excited to see how much better he gets as he keeps improving at this game!
2 years doesnt really do him justice, the short amount of time he spent actively playing hyrule to go from literally nothing to worldwide tops is insanely impressive. its very rare we see players make that level of progression
@@Ray.6406 he wasn't worldwide class he was and he might still be sub 9 at 3x3. But in term of subscriber he was certainly top 1 in the small speedcubing world. His channel name was "jperm"
So many important life lessons in what appears to be a simple Mario Kart movie. Congratulations on your achievement, and thank you for what you’ve bestowed upon us with this video. I’ve been going off and on on whether I want to continue learning my speedruns and fighting games due to my kinda shitty work-life balance at the moment, but this has given me a bit of confidence that I can get over my slump and rediscover what I enjoy so much about competitive gaming. Also, that burnout was epic and completely caught me off guard LOL Stay awesome!
I really appreciate it! I've actually had my passion for gaming help me stop procrastinating before. I heard someone once say that he became a pro while going through college because he always did his homework first, and then he could focus 100% of his energy into improving at the game with no outside stressors. I also found sleeping more (naps) helped with that for me!
The genuine reaction at the end was so good. I'm actually in my early 20s now and I've started feeling existential dread over what you described, not being able to improve as quickly in new activities etc. This was really inspiring.
Dude same. Him talking about the late 20s fall off hit me. I'm mid 20s and already feel myself falling off in some of my favorite games. It sucks knowing my peak is gone 😢
Congrats @shortcat321 your words even encourage us old players!! I've past that peak decades ago, and because of arthritic issues, i had to put the game down for a good 4 yrs. Animal crossing is even too painful. i use a pro wheel deluxe ( full size racing wheel, red & black w/ foot pedals) It was definitely a learning curve but once i got the hang of it i started seeing an improvement ..finally getting close to 10k.
Your videos have always taught me so much about playing better in this game, but never expected to learn a life lesson in this way. Congrats for your achivement and thanks for making this video, shortcat! Maybe I should also try stop putting limitations on what I can do because I am grown.
Age can and will limit you, but I think only a bit of that is absolute. Most of the limitation is psychological. Lack of confidence, and also not truly wanting to achieve your goal enough. If you approach your goal like you're an inspired child, but with the intelligence, resource, and discipline of an adult, I honestly think most people can achieve more as an adult!
This is 100% the best comment section I've ever had the pleasure of reading. You're all amazing and I'm so happy you enjoyed the video. I wish I could respond to all of you but just know that I am reading all of it and also i'm not crying, you're crying! 🫣
This video is nothing short of a masterpiece! The level of dedication you showed in not only becoming a Top 10 Mario Kart 8 Deluxe player but also crafting such an incredible video is beyond impressive. Every edit, every piece of storytelling, and the journey itself were done to perfection. It’s rare to see someone put this much effort into both their gameplay and the content they create-hands down the best video I’ve watched all year. Keep up the good work!
Last year I ended up falling just short of a goal that I have been trying to achieve for around about 3 and a half years now of wanting to get 1st in the nation in the Battlebots league that I compete in. I got second and lost in the championship round but seeing this video has sparked that hope in me again that I really haven’t had for a while. I’m so happy for you man. You absolutely deserve it!!!
Man, talk about absolute cinema... Love to see a well documented vídeo and really well scripted from the beginning to the end. Is just amazing how well u told us about discipline, life and mario kart, thats just wild and the way you presented it is just really inspiring. I can confirm that u also achieved that goal that u said at the end of the video (and now i just want to play mario kart time trials... THANKS SHORTCAT!)
I'm always so impressed when creators can essentially put out entire documentaries! This was a fun ride to sit through! 0/10 not enough Summoning Salt music
UPDATE: This might just be the best Mario Kart video I have ever watched. While it sounds dumb, I got a bit emotional at the latter half of the video because its something I've somewhat experienced myself. A few months back I wanted to get top 10 on Wii Rainbow Road since it felt possible at the rate I was improving at (less than a second away) although I would end up abandoning due to the pressure. I was making mistakes I was never making before and I haven't given much attention to the track since. But its what you said at 1:42:06 that hit me hard. I want to attempt runs again, and its through this video that I have the motivation to do so. This video means a lot to me and I'm really glad you made it. Thanks Shortcat :) About 45 minutes into the video rn and man, this is a movie. I love the story telling and in-depth look at the struggles you have to adapt to during a run. I'll be back in an hour to talk about the ending
That makes me so happy!! Thank you :) Pressure is incredibly powerful, and it can really magnify the importance of everything. If you fail a lot (which you have to, if you're at that level of speedrunning), then that can all add up to become unbearable. I had a lot of really sad days along my journey, but I made sure not to have that stop me from trying. I knew I probably wouldn't be able to beat Alberto, but I also knew that my only chance to beat him was if I wholeheartedly cared about beating him. If I just relax and chill out then I won't be able to get hurt, but I also won't be able to push myself enough to win.
@@Shortcat321 hey man, i watched this whole thing just now, and i just had a world record but someone beat it. I will still keep trying because of this motivation of a video, thank you so so much, but i still do not have it, in this video you have properly taught me to motivate myself into trying again, for that, you just earned yourself a new subscriber, thank you, Shortcat! :)
The message with Alberto around 22:00 is just so motivating. I was devastated from an everlasting surge of repeated things to do, be assignments, projects, most of which turn out to be lower than my expectations. Through the course of time I have developed a natural workaround: just lowering the bars of my expectations so that they don't seem subpar anymore. But consistency is key, and the way Alberto and Shortcat talk about consistency in speedrunning just somehow came to emphasize that sometimes just pushing through those subpar experiences give rise to critical inspirations, novel methods, and a positive drive towards pushing your limits to the next level. I feel extremely motivated, and this feels very odd after watching a Mariokart youtube vid.
Wow. Dude. Shortcat. That's such a big accomplishment... Congratulations! You should be SO proud of that. It took me a while to actually find the time to watch the video (1 hour 42 minutes? Intimidating!), but after watching it all the way through, I just want to say... This video is genuinely so inspiring. I definitely would not have had the confidence or perseverance to put in as much work as you did. So many times, I would've just given up. But you didn't. You pushed through. And you got there in the end. There's definitely something to be learned from that... Some people think talent comes naturally, and while it's true some people might be predisposed to be better at certain things than others, TRUE skill takes PRACTICE. And to actually be up there with the absolute best of the best? Even if it's just for one track, that's so incredibly impressive. PLEASE make sure to enjoy this. You EARNED it. Even now, I'm still in awe of how much effort and work you put into it. And... Well, it really seems like it was worth it. This all started as just a silly little competitive between friends... And you made it all the way here. WOW. I guess in some ways, that's still what it is. Just a silly little competition between friends. Because, at the end of the day, Mario Kart will always be just a game. But, a really, really good one, with a skill ceiling I couldn't even imagine trying to reach. Idk, I'm rambling- I'll get out of your hair now ^^
Dang his journey is crazy I remember when you had 10k-20k subs you have grown so much! Congrats man, I genuinely enjoy your content. I came to this channel cause people said you were Jperm I stayed because I enjoy the content. Awesome job, keep it up!
1:34:31 after watching over 90 minutes of you persevering though this time trial I can’t walk away from this video without thanking you for this shortcat. you showed every single one of us what’s truly capable when you work at it, push through the challenges and keep fighting for what you know you can do. I’ve never seen such a honest and perfectly well made time trial video, let alone a video that that fully shows the mentality that we’re all so used to feeling while fighting for a goal. Anyone that plays video games and pushes themselves to be better can relate to everything you went through in this video and most of us would be afraid of admitting the amount of times we’ve failed or have given up. This story is beautiful, and the result should motivate and touch more hearts than you realize. You have a gift, not just at mario kart but the ability to show people what we’re all truly capable of, and hearing the emotion you felt after reaching your goal only motivates me to want to go out, set those realistic goals to obtain and better myself. I know it all sounds silly, but it’s the seemingly little things that really make the difference, and again I thank you for sharing this journey with us all
That bit about being in the late 20s, feeling out of your prime, and starting to doubt whether you've missed the window to accomplish certain things definitely hits for me. What an inspiration this video was. And more than just being inspiring, your video you showed us the consequences of setting unrealistic goals and the desperation that comes out of continuing to try when you're not in the right mindset. The video really emphasizes that it's not just about putting your head down and grinding. I feel like you've armed us with the tools to also accomplish goals of this incredible magnitude.
1:29:37 that long pause followed up with you finishing the race. Brought me to tears the sheer display of will to keep pushing even after you knew it was lost. The power of seeing it through to the end. Idk blew me away.
Just finished the video and wow. Dude straight up congratulations! On both the tops and on making an absolute banger of a video. This is a near two hour video of a dude playing Mario kart that’ll bring men to tears. Absolutely incredible
This video is incredible. The message behind it even better. Congrats on the record and I’m really proud of seeing someone reals emotions on the internet. Makes me feel connected to one another. Looking forward to your next ww tops
Ive watched this video 3 times over the last month, its such a beautifully made video, that shows the passion and the skill you have in the game. Once you got the record, the emotions came out for the love of the game, the passion the fight. Congrats shortcat, your a goat 🐐
At first, I had the video playing in the background, but about halfway through, I had to give it my full attention. This is such a perfect documentation of the human condition. Trying, improving, failing, failing more and then failing again, but never giving up. All in order to achieve a goal. It doesn't matter what the goal is. It doesn't matter that it's as small as beating a time in a video game. It doesn't matter that the time isn't even the world record; because when you have a goal, and push through the failures to reach it, that means _everything._ My favourite part of this video, is the reminder that you don't need to be the best at whatever you do. As long as you keep pushing forward, and aim to be better than you were the day before, you'll see the gap between you and your goal steadily get smaller, until you're eventually able to cross that finish line faster than Alberto.
First of all, what an amazing video. Not only was it incredibly captivating to watch, but I never expected such a long video to keep me so entertained. It was really well done! The dates you mentioned throughout also marked so many significant moments in this really important year for me-February 22, my mother’s birthday; July 22, the day I had to submit my bachelor’s thesis, and so much more. It was truly fascinating to join you on this journey and to see where you were at pivotal moments in my own life.
I think this is genuinely better of a video for speedrunning and even life in GENERAL than any other I have seen. This video applies to so much more than Mario kart and even speedrunning, and it is genuinely impressive. And on top of all of this, it’s genuine. Honestly, you are my UA-camr of the year, and this is my favorite movie.
Can we just give some attention to how good the editing is? The way he shows the games, the discord chats, and the tiny talks in between everything, it just feels so good to see such perfect editing like this.
0:15 Bold of you to assume, that I've done a time trial, when I dont even own a switch or any Mario Kart title. Still enjoy watching the videos though!
@@Shortcat321shame on you for assuming buy him a whole switch with mk8 and the booster pass and then make sure to beat every wr on every track on every game on every mod map on every car combo and character combo
im a speedrunner myself and this is such a good way to present the speedrunner's mindset to the public. a LOT of people misunderstand the motivations behind running, but you totally get it. really sick video, wasn't expecting something like this as a regular viewer of yours too!
I've been rewatching this video, and I am still able to marvel at the storytelling each time I watch. The time and care you put into all your videos is so apparent, but in this one especially. Thank you so much for all the effort you have spent building this channel and community, I hope you feel very proud of yourself :) and congrats on 500k!!!
Strangely enough, a Mario Kart video just made me tear up AND start pursuing some really difficult things today. Your commitment to your goals inspired me. I can’t wait to taste the same great achievement of conquering what I’ve set before myself. Thank you, Shortcat.
as a music producer and artist i can totally agree with alberto’s statement about taking a break when you need to. sometimes when i’m making a song or mixing a track it can feel like whatever i’m doing just isn’t making it sound good and i get frustrated. but coming back to a project after a short break with a fresh mindset and fresh ears, it feels like everything just flows smoother!!
i've found this is so important for anything artistic/creative! i'm a procrastinator so it has always been hard for me to do artistic stuff (no break, just finish it all at once)
Decided to go for 1:47 after seeing this video and leaving my previous comment. After 4 weeks I can finally say I achieved it with a 1:47.964. Your video gave me the motivation I needed to take my 1:48.7 I'd had for ages and push it all the way down to that 1:47.964. easily one of my proudest achievements in Mk8DX TTs. I'd have never attempted it were it not for your video Shortcat. Congrats again and thank you got inspiring me to push myself further than I'd previously imagined in Mk8DX. I put it up on my channel and credited you with giving me the motivation I needed.
You did prove it, and you did inspire people. Finding the motivation to do something you love is a weird thing that I and many others struggle with. I’ve seen this story of success many times, but you were the first person I’ve seen to show the little things it takes to achieve your goals. Thank you for sharing your story.
22:45 - Consistency being most important is something musicians know very well. We may only have 1 or 2 "runs" (the performance) so we practice smaller parts of a piece until we're unable to make a mistake.
Worst thing about our job is we do not have a restart button so we've got to wait till the next performance to prove ourself, and that may be a long and tough time. Keep practicing 💪
Hi shortcat! I've always watched your videos since you were about 20k vr and I love your tips (& videos) to the game, they made me a pretty decent player on Mario Kart 8 Deluxe! Thank you for always giving us tips and keeping us entertained
So happy for you! I found your channel randomly on UA-cam 6 months ago and I watched most of your videos and loving them! Your optimism and happiness in videos are so great. Keep it up, wishing luck with next challenges.
This video is truly a MASTERPIECE! The editing, the music, the humor, the interviews, the plot, the pacing, the drama, the tension, the highs and lows, the monologues, the self-reflection, the philosophy, and the payoff. Such a rollercoaster of emotions, this feels more like a documentary than a UA-cam video. And the messages throughout were so inspiring, I really think they resonate with a lot of people. Thanks Shortcat, and obviously, THANKS NINTENDO
Hey Shortcat, I just wanted to tell you that I admire you so much as a person. I don’t play MK8, I stumbled into one of your videos more than a year ago and was really surprised by how you play, I saw you complimenting opponents on their good moves, admitting and laughing at your mistakes, and whenever you got frustrated, you would be happy you gave it your all, or that you had fun. Honestly, your videos soon became a source of inspiration. As a man it’s always been hard for me to express a lot of emotions, and it has helped me so much to see the positive ways in which you express them. I know this is just about funny kart game, but you have changed the way I look at videogames and honestly life as a whole, not to mention I had always been very competitive to the point of toxicity at videogames, but ever since I started watching you, my mindset has changed and I’m starting to enjoy games like never before. Congrats so much on your record, totally deserved :)
This video really helped boost my motivation for my personal art journey. A completely different field yet such a similar emotional experience. The way you put your journey into words really moved me, especially your talks of confidence and why you kept going, as well as putting age and learning into perspective. I always feel like i wasted my teens when i couldve been improving my artistic skills, and now i have to work harder. But seeing you achieve your goal just really made me feel less alone. I’ll be thinking of you while working on my bachelor of arts degree. 🙏🏼
You know what’s crazy, that even something like Mario kart can have such a huge impact on someone’s life, even getting emotional when you get something you have been going at that has nearly taken a year. Your such an amazing player with so much for potential. Keep up the great work. Also, you now get to brag about it to rod😭😭
YES! Shortcat is back and with a banger! time to hunker down and watch this with some snacks! Edit: this was an unbelievable video shortcat. Everything that was said in this video can be applied to all parts of life and that’s the beauty of this story.
This video had it all. The content, great editing, hard work and perseverance. The comedic relief of the burn out at the end made me literally lol. This hit home on many levels. Im 37 now but few years ago I decided I wanted to try to win a world championship in jiu-jitsu. And at 36 I did. I found your channel quite recently due to my 9 year old having huge interest in MK and wanting to play with her. But I had a sympathetic response to your tears of joy and relief having been there myself and found myself choking up. I hope all who read this can feel this way at least once in thier life. If you dedicate to something, it can be done. You are NEVER out of the fight! CONGRATULATIONS. You earned it!
You relentlessly defend your reign as the most wholesome UA-camr. Shortcat, you're an inspiration. Thank you. You don't have to split this with Troy and Rod.
I don’t know how else to say it, but you have successfully described my thought process when I play videos games competitively, the amount of detail emotion and devotion put into this video is insane. There’s things that my mind was thinking that I couldn’t explain but you managed to help me visualize what was going on. Showing the failures which are what we never see usually, the frustration they bring, the self doubt. I appreciate your videos so much. Now I want to try again. Thanks
I have never been more emotional watching someone achieve a goal. As an early 30s human (just out of my late twenties), this was super inspirational. I laughed, I felt tension, I was holding my breath, but more importantly, you definitely did what you set out to do. Inspire. So appreciate you, Shortcat. I truly enjoyed watching this moment. And congratulations for a well deserved record 💙
I would actually consider this to be one of the best videos I've seen on UA-cam. I loved this so much and it really hooked me to stay watching. In times of tik tok and other short form content existing, this is actually incredible. I gotta say I normally have the attention span of a goldfish but I seemed to really enjoy watching Shortcat race the same track over and over again while chasing a world record or top 10. Nice message and wonderful editing.
Let's go! This video made me smile. I used to do TTs back in the day in MK64, MK8 and MK8DX. I understand your struggle and why you become emotional. You put so much time and effort into it, just to get really close. Well deserved and great job in the video!
Also wanted to say at 10:10 "It can truly feel like you're doing everything you can but [...] you don't have the eye for it yet" Don't know if you remember when you popped into my stream a month or two ago convinced me to TT Hyrule for a minute. I had already TT'ed it a lot before then and I assumed that my PB was basically unbeatable for me... and then I randomly PB'ed by like half a second within the first 30 minutes of playing on a run that even I knew wasn't great by my standards. It's crazy just how far you can push yourself as long as you have the right mindset going into it, and this video perfectly encapsulates that concept Anyways, great work both on the run and on the video
Congratulations Shortcat! You are absolutely INSANE. You have so much talent in not only this game, but also in your video editing. This is so inspiring for me, as I have a pretty good time on Mushroom Gorge, but I stopped time trialing it because I got a time my brother can’t beat. This video makes me want to continue to improve at that track, just like what you did after you beat Rod. I also want to thank you for the amazing content that you’ve been putting out over the last year and a half. You and JPGiviner are what got me back into MK8DX and who continue to inspire me to get better in lounge, time trials, and for my school’s esports team. Keep up the amazing work Shortcat, I can’t wait to see what you’re cookin up next, and keep on giviner bud!
1:31:35 That got so quiet and serious for a second and then I got got by the fake out, I love it! Along with literally everything else in the video, which was all so perfect. What a story and what a video, thanks shortcat!
never tought i was gonna get so emotional on a ytb vid, on a game i've never played, and especially on mario kart.. you're somone dude, im legit SO happy for u congrats well deserved EVERYTHING !!!
Thank you for this. What a wonderful story you put together. This wasn't just a simple summary, but a beautiful retelling of an entire journey. Highs and lows and extended plateaus. Thank you for making this and for publishing it with all the information, learning, and emotion included. I watched every minutes and loved it.
Congratulations dude, not just on the record but on the great documentary of your trials. I've been working hard on this game for the last couple months so this was an especially amazing watch for me. I know I'm one of the many who are very happy and proud of what you were able to do. Congrats again!!!
Such a great video, great editing, great story, nice timing with cutting in and out of the interview. the build up and the climax. everything was so good!😁👏
I don't usually write on the comments section, but i think is necessary. Congrats on the achievement, and I truly believe that you have made something incredible, you have inspire a lot of people, not only that, this video is a work of art, in terms of how to reach your goals. Thanks for everything, Shorcat. I think you made a lot of us cry with this, watching you today was something amazing i wasn't expecting. Thanks.
Congrats on top 10! I don't know why I'm getting so emotional watching this. I laughed so hard at the one burnout. It was great hearing your reaction to the winning run; I actually teared up a little. CONGRATS!
I did not expect when I clicked this video, for it to be the most relatable, insightful AND inspirational video I've seen possibly EVER. I think this journey is something anyone who's pushed hard enough for personal achievement can relate with and maybe even learn from I'm glad you did this over a long course of time with many breaks and not all at once as a constant grind, especially when I heard about your physical condition/struggle at the start the video, as someone who has struggled with the same pain it is VERY much like you described and it is not pleasant and it can get way worse if you're not careful. and congratulations on the achievement, you've earned it!
I've been speedrunning for fun for most of my life and it's always been a struggle to describe why somebody would do it, or push themselves for sometimes hundreds of hours just to get their name up on a leaderboard. But this video really captured the entire experience from start to finish, the ups, the downs, hitting every wall imaginable and breaking through them. The excruciating detail of this video really lends itself well into investing yoursellf into all those feelings as an outsider. Fantastic stuff, man. Usually I watch long videos in the background, but I really sat here for almost 2 hours waching Hyrule Circuit. It was sick. Thanks! Now I just gotta convince people to do the same when I fail to describe why again and send them here instead, hahaha.
I don't think I've ever felt such a rush of excitement from the winning moment before as I did with this video (maybe except for AsumSaus' video about aMSa, and that's a MAYBE), the writing and editing made it FEEL like I was right there in-person, watching you take on this massive journey. Insanely good video dude
This was absolutely incredible. I didn't think I'd watch a 1 hour and 42 minute video dedicated to time trialing, but it was that good. Some of those failures were painful. Even just watching it. Especially the one you paused for a long time, but unpaused to finish the run. I teared up when you beat it. Then again when your friends in Discord were congratulating you on the top 10. Your determination, patience, and skill to keep going is to be commended. I could never do it. I play much MK any more, but I still really enjoy your videos. I think this is your best. Even though I went into it thinking I wouldn't watch that much of it.
What is even more impressive is that Alberto was using a blue yoshi on a blue vehicle with blue wheels and as we all know, color co-ordination gives you a speed boost!
Congrats on the record, but also on this incredible video! The dedication to achieving something like this cannot be understated. I'm so happy you were able to include interview sections with Alberto and RTAT, that really made the journey feel even more exciting! I didn't intend to watch it in one sitting, but who needs sleep when you've got such an awesome journey to watch
This is maybe the best video on UA-cam. What is such a regular subject is translated into a great lesson in general, and it shows how work pays off so well when you put your everything into it. Congrats on the dubs, and may that record be there for an eternity
You capture the essence of what makes Time Trials so brutal yet so beautiful at the same time absolutely flawlessly with this video. The ending bit inspiring me that I could overcome being an old and decrepit 21 year old grandma is genuinely giving me motivation to unretire LMAOOOO Incredible job on both the time and the video, this is absolutely your best work and we're all so proud of you 🧡
A lot of this kind of applies to extreme levels in Geometry Dash. While I'm not at Technicals level, I have gotten far further than I could ever imagine. And consistency and mindset is always more important than knowledge and stuff like that.
i agree so much, some levels can take such an extreme level of dedication and discipline, as well as an insufferable mental toll (in some cases, e.g. Doggie with Acheron). i too have gotten further than i could’ve ever imagined, and that shows that i can keep surpassing what i think is possible. thats why this is so impressive; Shortcat surpassed what he thought was possible for himself and built on bad habits, put in the work and saw results. and i believe you will get to technicals level some day ❤ keep up the work, i would love to see your improvement
As a fellow geometry dash player, i thought this exact thing lol. You need to have the right mindset to beat levels and the things shortcat said in this video all apply in some way to gd.
1:29:13 The long pause. Many of us have been there and it's never any less heartbreaking. But it's all about pushing past it and knowing you can do it!
Such an amazing video. What a journey, and having the skill to create a video that feels like you're right there too is incredible. I did not expect to feel so invigorated or emotional or so wholly on every level invested in a Shortcat movie, but wow. I'm so proud of you, and for proving that "lofty" goals are surmountable, and for teaching how you managed everything around that. Thank you Shortcat!
Its so crazy i went from watching Jperm and Summoning salt when i was like 15 and now im 19 and theyve both come such a long way. (idk if shortcat is jperm or not i havent rlly watched either since shortcat first made his channel)

Hey, shortcat. Please make more videos like these. This was an incredible journey and I didnt want it to end. So please do us a favor and keep on making long form content.
I wish I could always make videos like this! This video was the result of a great opportunity and moment in my life, which I am unlikely to do often. It was very gratifying, and I will always look for more chances for these!
Congrats man! Love what you said at the end (I skipped around the video I admit it!) about you vs your younger self's mentality. So true there man. Being aware of your gaps, knowing how to learn, how to problem solve. Approaching tasks and goals with more intent. I was way less focused and scatter brained when I was younger.

I am currently 6th in the world on 200CC Mushrooms in category extensions, and 36th worldwide for 200CC Items No Extensions. Your videos truly inspire me to do better. Thank you for everything you do Shortcat it means so much. I also would love to point out I never knew shortcut could explain self doubt in a Mario kart video and get me to understand it.

I'm just saying
This entire speech about confidence from 48:12 - 50:45 is just incredible, Shortcat... (Congrats btw :D)
"...when you do everything right, but it just wasn't enough.

I wish I had 200 hours to burn while doing this 😢

So many important life lessons in what appears to be a simple Mario Kart movie. Congratulations on your achievement, and thank you for what you’ve bestowed upon us with this video. I’ve been going off and on on whether I want to continue learning my speedruns and fighting games due to my kinda shitty work-life balance at the moment, but this has given me a bit of confidence that I can get over my slump and rediscover what I enjoy so much about competitive gaming.
Also, that burnout was epic and completely caught me off guard LOL
Stay awesome!

Thanks Shortcat :)
About 45 minutes into the video rn and man, this is a movie. I love the story telling and in-depth look at the struggles you have to adapt to during a run. I'll be back in an hour to talk about the ending
That makes me so happy!! Thank you :)
Pressure is incredibly powerful, and it can really magnify the importance of everything.

It doesn't matter that the time isn't even the world record; because when you have a goal, and push through the failures to reach it, that means _everything._
My favourite part of this video, is the reminder that you don't need to be the best at whatever you do. As long as you keep pushing forward, and aim to be better than you were the day before, you'll see the gap between you and your goal steadily get smaller, until you're eventually able to cross that finish line faster than Alberto.

Alberto saying take my spot in top ten is like top level Jedi type shi it’s insane how much effort goes in for less then a second Amazing vid

Lol
❤ what snacks did you eat?
@@Shortcat321some ice cream 🍨

Holy crap man incredible achievement! You truly are one of the GOATs!
Thanks bayesic! It means a lot coming from one of the people I learned a lot from as a beginner 🥰

Thank you so much!! Also Troy and Rod are great friends so they will always be here
I don’t know how else to say it, but you have successfully described my thought process when I play videos games competitively, the amount of detail emotion and devotion put into this video is insane.

Oh man, hearing your voice break a bit at the end, that was so real dude! Congratulations!

Love that you gave Alberto cynthia boss music
Me spamming restart against Alberto's lap 2 like I'm spamming revives while Garchomp 1 shots my team
Also wanted to say at 10:10 "It can truly feel like you're doing everything you can but [...] you don't have the eye for it yet"
Don't know if you remember when you popped into my stream a month or two ago convinced me to TT Hyrule for a minute. I had already TT'ed it a lot before then and I assumed that my PB was basically unbeatable for me... and then I randomly PB'ed by like half a second within the first 30 minutes of playing on a run that even I knew wasn't great by my standards. It's crazy just how far you can push yourself as long as you have the right mindset going into it, and this video perfectly encapsulates that concept
Anyways, great work both on the run and on the video

He’s already number 1 in our hearts
Facts!
I was just watching the tick tock clock timetrial video and I was like "man wish there was more of this"
LETS GOOOO
Thanks.
Bro he didnt win a fucking nba championship he got a good score on mario kart. The crying shi at the end was corny asf
The fact that you absolutely could have released this in many videos but combined it all is epic
lol nice profile picture it’s a really funny glitch in the matrix for me
Congrats on top 10!
I think this journey is something anyone who's pushed hard enough for personal achievement can relate with and maybe even learn from
I'm glad you did this over a long course of time with many breaks and not all at once as a constant grind, especially when I heard about your physical condition/struggle at the start the video, as someone who has struggled with the same pain it is VERY much like you described and it is not pleasant and it can get way worse if you're not careful.
and congratulations on the achievement, you've earned it!
Bro he didnt win a fucking nba championship he got a good score on mario kart. The crying shi at the end was corny asf
The ending bit inspiring me that I could overcome being an old and decrepit 21 year old grandma is genuinely giving me motivation to unretire LMAOOOO
Incredible job on both the time and the video, this is absolutely your best work and we're all so proud of you 🧡
No way I found Awoken in the lost and found!! Cmon he deserves more than 12 likes!!
Thank you so much Awoken 😊 I feel like age truly is a limiter, but only like 20% of what we normally think it does. You can overcome being 21!!!
One of the first things I thought of was gd
This video described my jump from clubstep to nine circles (which is a pain in the ass) but i quit after 81%. Havent played since
i know that game!!
Shortcat on his Summoning Salt arc
Its so crazy i went from watching Jperm and Summoning salt when i was like 15 and now im 19 and theyve both come such a long way. (idk if shortcat is jperm or not i havent rlly watched either since shortcat first made his channel)
Major Congratulations on achieving top 10 on Hyrule Circuit! That track is really difficult!
this guy has the best mentality I have seen in forever, no matter how you felt you persevered till the end, and I would never have thought, even in my dreams, that I would be inspired by a mario kart vid! keep it up shortcat, another top 10 coming up soon I can feel it!!!!
Amazing achievement. You worked like a maniac on this and it's incredible to see the journey. Congratulations!!
CONGRATULATIONS SHORTCAT I REMEMBERED WATCHING U PRACTICE ON RODS STREAM AND U WORKED VERY HARD FOR THIS GGS MAN WELL DESERVED!! ❤🔥🔥💪💪
also these speeches about confidence etc really helped me alot to become a better time trialer thanks so much for that!
Wow that felt like such a long time ago haha. Yeah I remember showing that I could beat Alberto's lap 1, but I was not that close to top 10 yet. What a crazy time
@@Shortcat321 a crazy time indeed.
This is by far the best Mario kart video I ever watched, heck, the best speed running video in general. Storytelling, editing, audio, all perfect. Congrats shortcat! Also, this inspired to try to beat my 3x3 cubing pb, so I’ll update if I get lol
you are a massive inspiration to me not just in mario kart but in my everyday life. just your drive to get pushing and do what you want to do no matter what really inspires me. thank you so much and congrats on this amazing feat!
WOAH!! This video genuinely blew my mind! I also speedrun Mario kart as a side hobby. You do so much more then you are required. Thank you. P.S- I think it's always funny to see a UA-cam who rarely curses get so excited he breaks character, truly shows how your jusy built different. And once again Thank you for everything.
Bro he didnt win a fucking nba championship he got a good score on mario kart. The crying shi at the end was corny asf
Congrats on the achievement! I didn't expect to see a time trial progression video here, but it was so fun to watch! Also, the music used is peak
What an epic video!! Congrats on claiming your spot in tops. Our GOAT made the list. Btw we all cried at the end❤❤
