Can I just say as a UK Brit from Irish heritage I love watching you guys enjoying Father Ted , I saw it first in the 1990's on British TV and I still think it's one of my favourite comedy shows of all time, In the 1990's -2010 we had some amazing comedy in the UK , shows that wouldn't even get made today because " reasons" Please also look at "Harry Enfield" , "The Fast Show" " Little Britain" " Catherine Tate" and " Men behaving badly" You won't be dissapointed ❤
To this day the poor actor who played Eoin mclove can’t walk down any road in Ireland Scotland England or Wales without someone shouting “iv no Willy “
I love the way the episode was written. Earlier, Ted smirks saying "huh women" while Dougal says "where?!" and looks around with fear. Another one, Dougal says "its like a tide of jam coming towards us, but jam made of old women" and later we see Dougal tempting to eat jam. They're like little easter eggs that go unnoticed in the episode. Anyways, I love seeing you guys reacting to Father Ted and you guys love it. I laughed more watching you guys laughing hard at it. Makes me appreciate it more.
Been waiting for you to get to this one, I know there's not much Father Ted left, but if you want something similar (also a lot of absurdist humour, randomness, insane characters) I'd really recommend Black Books, another Channel 4 comedy, from the early 2000s. The writer of Father Ted was a contributing writer to it and it stars Dylan Moran, Bill Bailey and Tamsin Gregg.
Mate, your reaction "omg I'm gonna shit my pants" is probably the funniest I've seen in a while! I love that you 'get' the Fr Ted Irish humour! Keep laughing and enjoying yourself pal! ... Greetings from Ireland
Patsy is played by Maria Doyle Kennedy who found fame after this as Catherine of aragon in "the tudors" she was also in "orphan Black" "outlander" "downton abbey" "the conjouring 2" and prior to this was in the cult classic "the commitments"
Oh, God…this penultimate episode of Father Ted…The Night of the Nearly Dead is yet another unforgettable highlight of Series 3. The Series finale of Father Ted…all I say is get ready to laugh one last time. Then cry.
This is tied with kicking bishop brenan up the arse for my favorite ephisode. Eoin McLoves character, expressions and delivery are just perfect, and I love the dynamic between him and Dougle.
Hilarious. 😂👍 After you finish Father Ted, I'd recommend considering beginning your Alan Partridge (Steve Coogan) journey with the UK series *Knowing Me, Knowing You with Alan Partridge* (1994). It's amongst the absolute best of UK comedy, can guarantee laughs like Peep Show, Inbetweeners and Ireland's Father Ted. 6:00 The singer is a parody of a very popular (in certain circles) Irish singer called Daniel O'Donnell, who has a super squeaky clean-cut image. From Wikipedia : His Image- O'Donnell is arguably better known for his gentle, soft-spoken personality and clean-cut image, than for his music. Over the years he has attracted vast media attention and there have been many cultural references to the performer. O'Donnell is frequently satirised in Irish and British comedy because of a common supposition that his audience consists mainly of older women.[30] He was parodied as celebrity singer "Eoin McLove" in the Father Ted episode "Night of the Nearly Dead", as well as an episode of BBC sketch-show Chewin' the Fat, as an Irish singer named "Donald O'Daniel". The comedy show Bull Island and the radio sketch segment "Gift Grub" portrayed him in sketches frequently singing about his "mammy".[31] DJ Chris Moyles has parodied O'Donnell on numerous occasions.[32] O'Donnell is known for his close relationship with his fans and has a meet-and-greet session after almost every concert. He used to host a massive tea party for his fans outside his Donegal home every year.[1] He has expressed a wish to appear in Coronation Street. 24:10 An old sea-dog accent.
As a long time Alan Partridge fan, I don't think KMKYWAP is a good place to start. Chronologically it makes sense of course, but the two series of I'm Alan Partridge are far superior, imo. Knowledge of the spoof chat show isn't really necessary to enjoy the sitcom.
'Father Ted' repeats seem to have been broadcast on some channel or other in Britain or Ireland almost without a break since they first appeared. My enjoyment has been heightened by your reactions and by the chat between the two of you. Your next assignment - 'The IT Crowd'. Or 'Black Books'. Or 'Green Wing' (60 minute episodes). Or all three!
The Green Wing - the only hospital drama I know that completely ignores the boring bits about patients and illnesses. I have rewatched it many times and I applaud your recommendation.
19:34 He actually said _'...you pile of dirty old biddy's'._ _Old Biddy_ is a derogatory term for an elderly person in the UK (and I'm guessing also in Ireland!). I mean, _piggy's_ would've been just as bad! But it's not a derogatory term to specifically describe elderly people.
Along with other shows by the same writer (The IT Crowd, Black Books), I also strongly recommend you try Keeping Up Appearances and Only Fools & Horses. Keeping Up Appearances is quite a calming, gentle kind of show, with more subtle comedy, but once you get to know the characters, it's such a good show. :-) And Only Fools & Horses - that's pretty much the King of British comedy - it's both hilarious and emotional at times (more so emotional in the later seasons), and there's so many episodes, you'll have a lot to enjoy. :-)
I take it you've never even heard of "Night of the living dead" from 1968. Edgar Wright was inspired by that film and referenced it in "Shaun of the dead" when Nick Frost's character shouts "We're coming to get you Barbara" down the phone to Shaun's mum, despite the writer of Night of the living dead not noticing the reference at the premiere.
I have so enjoyed watching you guys experience Father Ted for the first time. This episode is my personal favourite and watching your reaction rather than just rewatching it myself adds a new dimension. Whilst this is my favourite episode, my favourite priest is Father Liam Finnegan the Dancing Priest from the season 2 episode Think Fast, Father Ted. That recent film with Willem Dafoe and Robert Pattinson set in a lighthouse is really good. It’s off the coast of Newfoundland so the accents are a tad Irish. Proper horror film though.
to answer your "what is this episode" question, many of the scenes are parodies/homage to universal/hammer/independent horror movies from the 30s through the 60s, a big one being of course night of the living dead.
I think the whole point of Eoin McLove’s character is that it plays on the fact that celebrities aren’t always who they seem to be in real life e.g British “comedian” James Corden apparently is a horrible person offscreen.
