My fav: Dougal: the Pope’s not a celebrity, not in the true sense of the word Ted: The Pope is God’s representative on Earth Dougal: Well then you’d think he’d be taller
Agreed - a great loss to the comedy world - I can only imagine how much Father Ted had left to run (of course, no one could possibly replace him in the roll, in my opinion)
9:37 He said: "Sure I wouldn't know I'm from Donegal!" Its a place in Ireland, the joke is the nun thought he was from Africa and yet he has a blatant Irish accent.
I love that this is how you react to Father Faye after two seconds of him on screen. Just wait until you see more of him. The running joke is that he is completely impossible to understand for the audience, but is considered one of the most profound speakers by all the priests. It's absurd brilliance 😂
The episode that is a spoof of the film Speed is pure genius. You'll love it! Also the Christmas edition wher Ted, Dougal and a group of priests are lost in a store.
12:12 “my face hurts” I remember watching father ted back when it originally ran and I was the same. I would be in stitches, trying to catch my breath, I would sometimes have to leave the room to compose myself and come back in. It’s the only show where I actually cried laughing
I can’t wait to see King Boomer’s reaction to the episode where everyone thinks Ted is a racist and the one where Bishop Brennan is kicked up the arse. 😆 They’re the funniest ones. 🤣🤣
You guys watching these shows are reliving our teen years, you guys make me smile and it adds to these shows.Your format is perfect and whenever my mrs comes into the room and I'm laughing at you laughing she looks at me like I'm an idiot haha.
Sister Monica is saying to the black priest - basically - how great it is to have African ethnicity in the priesthood in Ireland. He replies: “Sure I wouldn’t know… I’m from Donegal”. Donegal is a place in Ireland.
If you thought you liked Father Ted now then you are in for a treat with what's to come! Burping sheep, hairy babies and old lady zombie hordes lol. Some fantastic episodes coming up
Season 2 is the best season. You might have to skip to the last episode given the timing- but the longer episode "a christmassy Ted" needs to be your guys' Xmas reaction vid. Even if you don't get that far through the season, the episode is perfect!!!
And to add the that Donegal is a county in Ireland. 4th largest on the island and is the most northerly but not in Northern Ireland. Some say it’s the most beautiful place in the world with one of the most beautiful airport settings in the world. In many surveys Donegal has been voted best in the world in both. Also back when this was filmed Donegal wouldn’t have been home to many people of mixed race ( trying not to sound racist) so that was the point of that joke when the Nun thought he was African and he says he’s from Donegal
If you like Father Ted, have a look at "Black Books" which was written by Dylan Moran and Graham Linehan, Linehan was the co-writer of Father Ted with Arthur Mathews. BTW, you must watch the Fr. Ted episode "Hell", it is one of the funniest.
9:30 "Sure I wouldn't know I'm from Donegal." County Donegal is the Northern most county of Ireland. The Nun thought he was from Africa or from the missionaries in Africa due to in the 1990s, Ireland didn't have many Folks of African descent back then. Meanwhile your man is an Irishman from the North 😂😂
Since you were confused by what the black priest said at 9:36, he says "Sure I wouldn't know, I'm from Donegal." Donegal is a county in Ireland and the nun thinks the black priest is an African priest which is why she is talking to him about the African faith community. And he replies that he doesn't know about it as he is from Donegal. Even has the accent to prove it!
"But we'll see him in the next world... Oh yeah, sure" One of the funniest ongoing gags in Father Ted is that none of the priests actually believe in God 😅
Guys, please can you do the Father Christmas episode for a Christmas reaction? It’s by far the funniest one and it’s my tradition to watch it every year, so I’d love it if I could watch it with you guys. It would totally make my Christmas!
At 9:12 the nun is commending the priest for bringing the faith to Africa etc, assuming the priest is African because he's black. But he's Irish, he says "sure i wouldn't know, I'm from Donegal". Donegal is a county in the north west of Ireland. The actor playing that priest actually ran for president of Ireland a few years go.
If you can find it, try listening to Father Jack (well, the actor playing him) doing his version of The 12 Days of Christmas. Each day he sends a letter to his True Love, thanking her for the latest gift. Hear the increasing manic desperation in his voice as his house is being gradually trashed by Turtle Doves, Pipers Piping, Lords-a-Leaping etc
The writer also made “The I.T. Crowd” - you didn’t get the gist of the excerpt you watched, but the actual program is as funny as Father Ted. You should watch it.
Father Ted, a slice of genius! BTW the housekeeper was saying to the black priest how good it was to see the faith flourishing in third world countries (assuming he was from Africa.) That’s when he responded in a strong Irish accent “I wouldn’t know, I’m from Donegal.” (Donegal is a county in the Irish Republic, to the north west of Ireland.)
Every time you guys release a Father Ted reaction I have to go back to your channel and check I didn't miss the last one because it's been so long. And every time, I haven't missed one. It just really was that long since the last one.
Rik Mayall was brilliant, I loved him in The New Statesman as Alan B'Stard. Once I was watching a Bottom Live tape and I very nearly died laughing, I was on the floor gasping for breath, I thought my end was near.
King B's initial reaction to Father Fay is - and I hate to use this term, but it's EPIC. Even before he'd heard him speak! Father Fay is one of my favourite of the menagerie of priests we're introduced to over the 3 seasons - there's so much joy to come, and I can't wait to watch it with you. We've only just begun...
The statue you refer to 2:30 is of St Peter and found in St Peter's Basilica, Vatican City (a country within the city of Rome). Created by Carlo Marchionni, in 1757; cast in bronze, it's traditional to kiss, or touch a foot in order to request a blessing (and so many people have done this that the right foot has worn down to a "blob" of metal). While "Blue Nun" was a German wine targeting the export market that was very popular between 1950-80 but declined in popularity after that (so they made it less sweet). Windolene is a household cleaning solution for windows and glass. The "African" priest says... "Sure, I wouldn't know; I'm from Donegal" (in the N West of Ireland). Great end scene!
You know, I must have seen each episode dozens of times! But they are are very watchable, especially if you are feeling a bit down in the dumps. My favourite is probably 'Hell', followed closely by 'Kicking Bishop Brennan up the Arse'. But they are all great fun.
9:13 It's a stereotype joke. The nun is complimenting the reverend on the activities of the African church and he replies in Irish vernacular that he has no idea because he was born in Ireland. "I think it's absolutely great to see, I mean the level of commitment amongst the African church in bringing the faith to the people - it's just wonderful! It's marvellous isn't it?" "Sure I wouldn't know, I'm from Donegal."
2:44 "Pilgrims would bend down to kiss the foot of St Peter’s statue in the Vatican, and over the years the metal has worn away so that the toes blend in with the rest of the foot. Nowadays most visitors opt for touching the St Peter statue foot instead of kissing it, but the feet are still worn down due to the human contact." (There's also a statue in Croatia with a golden toe) 9:29 "Sure, I wouldn't know, I'm from Donegal" (County Donegal) 29:46 Is that gonna be your new sign-off then?
9:25 He said "Sure I wouldn't know, I'm from Donegal." That's a county in the north west of Ireland. The joke is basically that she thought he was an African missionary when he's actually Irish.
I am so glad you loved father Ted… as a Irish born and raised…( before coming to Australia) .. the comedy takes a hard look at these big houses with a few priests living in it and the devoted house woman… they completely send it all up…and laugh at the power of the Irish church before it was politically ok to do so… helerous.
The Latin priest who the Nun was talking to said "Sure I wouldn't know I'm from Donegal" he wasn't from Africa so he was clarifying that and the way he responded is a very Irish humorous response be hard for you guys to find that funny as we would
`I wouldn`t know I`m from Donegal.` (Donegal is a county in north western Ireland. The birthplace of one Daniel O`Donnell who is the Irish singer that the Eoin McLove character in father ted was based on)
She's talking to the black priest about how great it is that the church allows African priests now, and he said "Sure, I wouldn't know, I'm from Donegal" which is a place in Ireland.
The Blue Nun gag. Blue Nun is an English, yes English, wine, cheap and pretty disgusting. But 'Blue' is also a British/Irish idiom for risque/pornographic.
8:36 - He says "Sure I wouldn't know, I'm from Donegal." The joke being that the nun assumed he was African because he's black, but he was actually from Ireland and had never been to Africa.
Thanks as always K&Q The incredible thing is that this original video link is blocked for us in the UK on copyright laws!!! Insane! Brilliant reactions and rofl parts feck eff!

So the part where the nun starts talking to the priest about the commitment of the African Church he says "sure I wouldn't know I'm from Donegal." The joke there is that she assumed because of his colour he might have something to do with Africa, but no, he's from Donegal! Which is a county in North West of Ireland.
"sure I wouldn't know - I'm from Donegal". At the time, Black people were not too common in Ireland. The reference by the nun was based on her surmising he was from a foreign country - which he wasn't. Kevin Sharkey is an actor and artist.
The Joke where the Nun is talking to the black priest is about her talking the church in Africa he says "Sur I wouldn't know I'm from Donegal" in an Irish accent. At the time this was made there were very few Black people in Ireland so she assumed he was from Africa but he was Irish.
I too have rubbed that statue's toe in Italy and I can't remember where it is either. It's in some cathedral and the toe(s) are polished smooth by all the hands over the decades. It helps that the foot is at 'hand height ' as you pass it.
Not sure if this has been mentioned yet, but when Dougal is reciting the 'Latin', he's actually naming the 1990 World Cup Italian football squad
The Yorkshireman Reacts got that reference… so far he’s the only reactor I’ve seen who got it….
Brilliant
"He's risen from the dead, like that fella ... E.T." Is the greatest line in all of the great lines in this show.

I can still remember the shock and sadness when dermot Morgan died ,he had so much laughter to give us all 🥲
Ah I know he'll always be remembered and live on in Father Ted😊😥

Father ted is such an iconic, much loved comedy in the UK , such a great shame that the actor Dermot Morgan , ( father ted) died of a heart attack 😪
