"Pass the corn bread and sweet tea..."
Brotha from New York City, just grew & harvested a good amount of turnips. That means I a great bunch of turnip greens Cleaned them up and is currently stored away in the freezer box for the winter. Thank you for the recipe. My roots are from North Carolina. I like my greens nice and soft, no crunch.
Me too soft no crunch
Add baking soda to the LAST WASH. Let the greens sit in that soda water for no more than 5 mins. This was the B.S. taste doesn't interfere with the turnip greens. Great video
I agree, wash and wash again. Does not take long for that extra step
My neighbor brings me a bowl of this every Thanksgiving. I've asked and asked for the recipe. He wouldn't give it up. This sure looks like it, I bet it tastes like it too. Can't wait to give this a go. Thank You so much.
Honey my family is from the south and you make those greens the right way! Make them greens baby!
I just made these and they are the best I've ever made!!!
That baking soda tip was what I was looking for, thanks
I’ve never had turnip greens before this.. I am from the laurel mountains of Pennsylvania and I’ve never had anyone around me cook them. I did grow turnips in the garden this year and didn’t want to waste the greens and I watched your video and made this for dinner. Omg it is to die for! My husband and I gobbled it up! Thank you soooo much for the recipe!!
The greens you cooked from your "turnips," sweetie, are not the same as Turnip Greens.
Great recipe. When was vinegar added?
I've watched the video a few times, read the recipe a bunch, read over ALL the reviews and replies on UA-cam, and still cannot find when you put "the vinegar" in that makes the baking soda fizz, or how much you added to the pot. This looks amazing and I am gonna try it without vinegar (first time making turnip greens) and hope for the best. Every one of your recipes I've tried has become a family favorite!!
I came to the comments to find out about the vinegar too 🤷♀️
Ladyyyyy I made this recipe yesterday and followed every step. & hunnnnny then greens was fye 🔥🔥🔥 thank you 🤞🏾
You saved me some?
Lmbo

👊🏾🔥🙌🏾
Ikr I use her recipes every year bomb.com
Baking soda is an old old school tip for those that don't like that bitter turnip bite. But my family is from the red dirt country in Tennessee so we love home grown harvested turnip greens from the dirt, that you hand pickoff the stems and clean... Not that store brought or bagged stuff or collard greens. Give the real real. We eat the turnip roop in them as well. 😋
Me too!!!
You said "because there's vinegar in there" - but when did the vinegar go in?
Keep up the great work! I’m marrying a southern man and I found your videos today. I’ll def be using these recipes ☺️
We missed you 😍
Right!
Agreed.
Uhm, did I miss when you added the vinegar? I watched and re-watched...Nothing. I'm still trying this recipe tah-day. Thanks for sharing.
I love that pot, where did you get it from?
Go to her random favorites click on, you will see the set. Amazon.
Great recipe! I prefer collard greens, but I can definitely eat turnip greens. I love smoked turkey in greens, but I've only tried wings, not drumsticks.
I think that the hot sauce would be good! I like hot sauce on my greens when I eat them, so it makes sense to add them in while cooking.
I like my greens nice and soft as well! Great minds think a like.
Another great and entertaining recipe!
I orth eat Dr. Red ETF redressed orange day redr edge red
T try dy Dr soon
Now I have to cook some, if I can find them. Turnip and mustard greens mixed have been my favorite for over 30yrs....
I'm cookin'em right now! Seriously, I'm following your steps to the T, and they smell AMAZING!! I can't wait to try them out with a piece of cornbread!
I’m from TN and my memaw cooked the hell out her greens and the broth and flavor was so strong and good and they were super soft. Makes me want to make cornbread to sop up the pot liquor. Lol
Those are some beautiful turnip greens, Monique.
Thank you Byron!
You had me at the turnip greens and then you mentioned "some cornbread!" OMG! You literally have my mouth watering!!! Thanks so much.
🙌🏾 Praise God and Hallellujah to the baking soda at the end! It cuts the acidity. So delicious! ❤
Thanks so much! This is for my new year's day. I'm from Alabama ..no crunchy greens here. I just couldn't think what to add to em.❤🎉
You're almost to 1 Million!
Thank you so much for this! I’ve never been able to cook turnip greens right. I am from Georgia and I love my greens cooked down like you make yours.
I like my greens soft too. This recipe looks good girl. ❤❤
Looks like a meal, not just greens, gotta try this one. Those greens look like my mothers! Thanks
I love mustard and turnip greens together w/ smoked meat 🤤
😃 They were DELICIOUS! I'm making another pot of them today to freeze away!!
Oooh they look delicious, I like my greens tender too! All I need is cornbread, vinegar and sometimes candy sweets.
Thank you. You have the best voice. I could do this. Have kale and collards almost ready now. First time I have done it for, since ever.
The smiley is at 4:12 on the corn bread in the top left corner!

Turnip greens are my favorite ❤️🧡
They definitely grew on me! I was #teamcollardgreens for the longest! : )
Lol, I actually would only eat collards for years. My mother switched it up and got me hooked on turnips. Now I really don’t eat collards anymore.
Making it today, thanks for the inspiration gorgeous. He's a lucky fella.
Girl thank you so much for this! Every time people cook any greens, its always gotta have pork of some sort in it so I can't eat it. Thank you so much! Im going back home to Mississippi but with a yankee husband I have to get used to more southern food. You helped immensely doll!
I have never tried green turnips but this look so good! I'll have to make them😊
Try it baby girl! You will love THEM!😉
That looks beautiful!🤤😋
Adding baking soda will stop you from having gas, too. I learned this in Home Economics (high school) in 1989. Add it to soups, too.
I made turnip greens yesterday and I used your recipe. They were so good. thank you for sharing your recipe. I will always use this ANF am sure it will work with collard greens as well.
Missed you Girly!!!!!
Try them a little crunchy you might like it. I do. Love yea!!!
Lmao at crunchy greens 🤣🤣 Also, I remember one time when I was in my 20's, (41 now) I cooked a pot of greens with the works in them.. Pickled pig tails and smoked bacon crumbles w/ cornbread and some steamed rice. (In new Orleans, we eat cabbage and greens over rice.. Well chile, I cooked like 3 bags of those triple washed ones and didn't know that I was supposed to wash them again and when it was time to serve, there was a dead wasp, sand, and all kinds of dirt and grit in every bite 🤣🤣🤣 I was so hurt and embarrassed
Better than bouillon ham base is amazing. There is also a ham bouillon by Goya that gives the broth a smoked ham flavor. Unless you are trying to stay away from pork 😉.
Looks yummers!🤤🤤
Making this for Christmas dinner 😋
Thank you for putting this up.
I'm from Texas and never heard of crunchy turnip greens.
I ran out of store-bought greens so I pulled, washed and sauted turnip greens and radish greens both, fresh from my garden.
First I fry a spice mix (coriander powder, onion powder and mustard powder) in mustard oil then I fry the greens up, adding a little boiled water.
Afterwards I sprinkled generously with roasted sesame seeds. Yummy slightly bitter taste!
I will take a look at your collard recipies - my favourite green!
Yes, cook those turnip greens thoroughly. This is also critical with collards.
Made this. I think it's worth mentioning that after eating it you will need a good book that lasts at least half-a-day.
I add shredded carrots too
Oh baby, you KNOW what I want! I bet your Thanksgiving this year is going to be AWESOME!
Great recipe for turnip greens going to cook some tomorrow. ......Thanks
It looks delicious..i am going to prepare this dish for my family
.thank you for sharing your knowledge with us..😊
I’m confused. You said the baking soda bubbles up because there’s vinegar in the greens. I do not see where you put the vinegar in. Not in recipe, either. Thank you. I want to try this.
That looks so freaking good. My husbands hot water cornbread with that would be perfect.
People are sleeping on hot water corn bread!
omg , smiley at 4:12!!! loving this, 😋😋
Looks scrumptious. This will be my Thanksgiving meal. 😊
I love greens. Your turnip greens look delicious.
Super YUM❣😁
These look sooo good! I love how you used smoked turkey instead of pork, and you added hot sauce yummy! 🤤😋😘
Monique, you just being knowing my spirit! These look amazing!
Turnip greens are so healthy....
Thank you for this. My mouth is watering.
Just like I like my greens, cornbread was looking good too 😋
Yasss! Will u do collards too? I'd like to jazz mine up for Thanksgiving this year.
She already did collard greens, look on her page.
Yummy 😋
Yum
Wow I love tis. I've got turnips almost ready to harvest inmy garden and I'll be using your recipe. Looks delicious!
SISTER GIRL, studies have shown that eating excessive amounts of smoked foods can increase our risk of certain cancers, particularly of the stomach and colon.
Hush and just enjoy!😂
Why does cooking with baking soda scares me 😂😂
I love turnip greens for thanksgiving how about you
Yep!! Love'em!
I love you
I agree with you it is a southern thing because outside of the South the greens are crunchy and I don't understand why people don't cook them down. And you cook greens the way my mother taught me she always use smoked turkey legs and smoked turkey wings because my father did not eat pork. People have no idea how good it is until they try it because all they've ever put in there a big honkin pieces fatback or something.
Need some hot water corn bread with them greens!! loooookkkss sooo goodd..
YUMMMMMMMMMM!!!!!
I live in Georgia and I am from the Midwest and never had greens in my life till I moved here. Well I married a Southern Gentleman, lol. Now we are almost seniors and my Mother in law is no longer with us so I don't have anyone to teach me how to cook them! I'm From Iowa and its all about the PIG there so I know about smoked pork. He doesn't like turkey legs but I found some BEAUTIFUL SMOKED PORK NECKS! Can I use them? They are not real meaty but that's okay, we don't need tons of meat. I want to get the most smokyness I can with them. So how do I get the most out of them!
Thanks!
Thanks so much robertriddle!!💕
Those greens are the Bomb💥they look delicious, I'm like you pass the cornbread 👏👏👏 where did you get that cute pot ?
Those look delicious!
Your fun to listen to. Love the recipe. Might try it for me cause I don’t think my family will like it.
