This was my time in the city! My grandparents lived in NY and I'd frequently go on trips with family throughout the 90s to visit them and go into Manhattan. 90s NYC was an entirely different vibe--different atmosphere. People seemed more chill, we weren't worrying or even THINKING about the kind of anxiety 9/11 would bring just less than 10 years later. The city seemed different too, it was still in the middle of a transition from gritty 70s/80s/early 90s New York to the city we know today. It seemed less 'corporate' and sanitized. The people were different. They seemed more open and friendlier and more REAL. Fewer transplants from other cities, towns and regions bringing their distinctly un-New York attitudes with them. I had some of the best times in my life in New York of the 90s. I was just a kid, a few years younger than your older daughter in the vid, but on some level, was recognizing that this was a special time. Thanks for bringing me back!!
I was in my second year in the navy in 95…….. im 50 now. Nyc back then and life was so much better. People were happy looked out for each other…… no mass shootings evoryday. No 911. No covid. No social media. No people being zombie’s staring in there phones. 🌎. World is horrible now. The 90s. Was the last great decade
Totally and you still had to get music physically and video games were the best that decade, people under 30 don't have any historical knowledge of anything now, just Snapchat or Taylor swift, both are terrible. I miss the 90s so much now, I'm 39.
Who knew all the crappy home movies Dads made would become a source of historical fascination but they did! Having lived through the 90’s I had no idea the world was about to take such a bad turn. First it was the supreme court installing Bush Jr as president and then 9/11, and then iPhone and there you go. These really were the good old days - wish I’d known it at the time. I like the 90’s a lot better.

Some of these videos are cool because it is the closest thing to having a time machine. I watched a video of a trip to coney island in 87 and it was so funny. The train is covered in graffiti and the people are dressed in the 80s bright colors and a man in a dress gets on the train.
I was 18 years old when this video was first recorded. The very first time I want to New York was going to see my Second Cousin on my Stepdad’s side. I really enjoyed myself while I was down there.

The oldest will be 42 next week and the youngest just turned 35. I started of course with VHS tapes then moved to VHS-C and finally to MiniDV. Yes the years do fly by. If you have kids be sure to appreciate them.
haha, I was bathing in the memories of no internet, no mobile phones (but yes quake), when at 2:01 I see the girl having fun with something that resembles a piece of garbage :) Well, it is still possible to live in the moment today (especially kids), but it is very rare. Now almost every person is gazing into the internet like a zombie everywhere when for 5 seconds there is no stimulus. Sad but it was better without non-stop internet.
How times changes, i mean, with the lack of "networking" at that time, I bet people did not care to share anything or didn't feel intrigued to do so or also where?. When people are real humans walking around and doing all the activities naturally, not zombies who stare at a glowing box in their hands all day long.
