2 vids in 1 week, one of them about volume(which I desperately need) AND a giveaway? My birthdays on the 12th and you're one of like 4 total youtube channels I follow so happy birthday to me lmao ♡
@@sara.m88 me too! I used to have a lot of hair when I was younger, but as I aged it became thinner and really fine. I wear it curly cause I figure it gives the illusion of thicker hair.
When you don’t comb or brush your hair for days at a time, when you finally wash it, you’re going to lose hundreds of hairs at once because they’ve been collecting on your head.
Yes but I’m losing long strands of hair from my roots like this has never happened before and I end up accumulating like 4 balls and I also notice way less hair on my head than I had a year ago. My situation is not normal because I used to have so much more abundance and my hair was healthy and I had so much more 😭
Ok, but can we talk about how fricking annoying hair loss is under the shower? I swear, I spend at least 30 minutes under the water just plucking loose hair from my fingers
Yeah same... But mostly in the shower! When I brush I don't see that much hair falling out... Tbh I don't wash my hair daily, maybe every two to three days, and I have wavy/curly hair... But when I do wash it, it comes out in a big hairball... Makes me sad and scared every time...
@@capcorn2942cuz it falls off and clings to your curls. They eventually seperate from the curls in the shower and thats the reason the hairballs seem so big. I dont think you should worry about it tho
As someone with a thyroid condition that causes their hair to fall out (my hair has thinned out a lot over the past couple years), I want everyone to know that you are beautiful and worthy of love and affection regardless of what state your hair, eyebrows, and eyelashes are in. I know that sounds really obvious but losing a lot of hair can feel really demoralizing and scary and be a bit of a confidence killer. You are loved and wanted and beautiful.
@Miss Catastrophe Your hair grows at the rate it grows which is largely genetic. If you eat well, exercise regularly, take your medications responsibly, and generally try to take care of yourself that will optimize your hair, skin, and nails. Hair growth potions, solutions, pills, etc and supplements in general are not well regulated in the US, they make unsubstantiated claims and can even be harmful when combined with other medications or taken at improper doses. I don't mess with that stuff at all and wouldn't encourage anyone else to especially not without first discussing it with their doctor. Honestly, my best piece of advice is to find a hairdresser you like and get regular haircuts to maintain flattering layering that helps to improve volume so you can't tell that your hair has thinned out as much.
This video had more emotional support than I was expecting and I cried. This was really what I needed. My hairs been having more fall in the last two years and I was having serious anxiety about it which made it so much worse.
I can't possibly be the only one who literally takes notes while watching "Manes By Mell" videos, right? ☺ So much INFORMATION!! Thank you for making us all this 🤏 much smarter, Mell! 😁💜
You’ve given me a sense of relief, because I was loosing a lot of hair. Thank you for that thorough explanation for hair fall out. I’ll try not to stress too much, but with four boys and an annoying husband I don’t see how that’s possible. Lol
While I was trying to follow the curly girl method I was losing tons of hair, then I started watching your videos and I made my own routine trying to follow your advice (using the shampoo brush and clarifying in case of build up)and I noticed that it decreased ✨
Same is happening with me rn. I've just started curly hair method because I've wavy hair 2b and I've been losing alot of hair:( I don't understand what I'm doibg wrong.
I also count the hairs that get stuck in my butt crack in the shower..😆 on a serious note thyroid problems can also cause hair loss. Love u Mell and Amanda! ♥️
OMG, I feel like this video was made for me! I stepped out of the shower in tears this morning because of the amount of hair I've been shedding. Thank you for such an informative (and comforting) video! ❤️
I literally needed this video so bad... my hair is going through a HUGE shedding period right now, and it’s been freaking me out. Definitely needed this.
Oh yes, those hormonal changes... I'm pregnant, and the end of the first trimestr was a horror for my hair. Due to the hormonal changes in my body and the baby growing (plus I was iron defficient) it felt like I lost a third of my hair! It was brutal. On the contrary, hitting the second trimestr, I stopped shedding. Like... totally stopped shedding. I lose no more than 50 strands of hair in 7 days. And yes, I know that I can expect another round of hair loss after giving birth. And all of this seems to be normal. What a rollercoaster! I send all the love and luck to my fellow pregnant curlies. 😘
Ah! I was just going to add to what scientist Mell said! For anyone curious on insight on this, to paraphrase Mama Dr. Jones (OBGYN youtuber): Pregnant people who feel like they're going through either abnormal amounts of hair growth/health and then abnormal amounts of hair loss are experiencing a phenomenon where hair cycles will sync during pregnancy! So abnormal amounts of growth/loss are a result of a larger percentage of your follicles being in the same growth/death cycle at a time! Things un-sync following the end of pregnancy, which is why hair seems to go back to normal! edit: ah, well, should have checked myself - Mell gets into it with telogen effluvium! I wonder if this is what MDJ was talking about, and she just explained it as syncing of follicular phases...
The iron thing is a nightmare. We're so prone to anemia in my family and I'm awful for keeping track. But if the dizziness doesn't signal me to go back on the iron, the hair loss does. I'm really glad you mentioned it. 😁
I only ever brush my hair when I've just washed it. I lose SOOOOOO much hair or at least it seems like it. Mell has really helped for me to get comfortable with hair fallout. I still have a head full of hair 😂 Thank you!
TIP: I have found when I wear my hair in a bun or pony tail I experience the most hair fall and tangling, so I wear my hair down or braid it and that has reduced my hair fall quite a bit!
You and Amanda inspired me to begin my curly hair journey after 14 years of heat damage... everyday!!! Thank you both so much for all the informative videos. Although... my wallet may not be as thankful from all the products I have tried (LOL). SO thankful I found your videos in March!
I NEEDED this!! I recently have started losing more hair than I had been about a year ago. I was getting so worried. I also have not had a cut because of quarantine, so my hair has grown a lot BUT at the same time I have been losing so much more when I shower.
Amanda killed the editing and production phase! What a talent!? Mell thank you so much for removing the stigma and fear of hair fall/loss. You two are a power team. Never change! Keep em comin.
Thank you for mentioning trichtillomania. It took me a few years to find out that what I was doing was common enough and that I wasn't a freak. It's not too uncommon, but people suffering from it tend to think so because it's such a "dirty secret". That said, it is really, really tough to stop and even after 12 years, I'm still pulling out a few hairs a day :/
As someone who suffers from scalp psoriasis, I just wanna say thank you Mel for this comforting video I truly love you and Amanda and all the content, but THIS felt like it was made for me ❤ thank you seesters.
@@bella_grace4671 ive been trying different things, but right now I have the T-Sal shampoo and I honestly cant tell if its working or not lol I scheduled an appt to go back to the derm to see what else I can do...its pretty severe and ive lost SO much hair because of it. I'm sorry yours has been flaring up, its awful!
Tsal never worked for me but the dr did give me one called tarsum one time that you can apply for up to an hour before you shower and it seemed to help. There was also a liquid to use after that helped A LOT with itching and eventually diminished it but i cant remember the name!! I know it was also the name of a nasal spray 🤷
Oh wow okay! Interesting I'll have to bring that up at my next appt. U know what's crazy? I used an oil from "the mane choice" and it loosened up a lot of the plaques which was good, but then when I washed my hair chunks of hair were coming out. That was actually my last wash day and im so traumatized to wash my hair now lol
Yikes! Thats scary. They told me always be gentle and dont pick at whats stuck bc it causes hair loss. But i remember the names!! Fluticasone was gor my elbows and clobatasol ( no idea how to spell it but you say it klow bate a zol) that and thw tarsum reduced mine by over half in only 3 months
Hi ladies. Hormonal shedding during perimenopause is real. I lost about 50% of my hair - fortunately I had a really thick/dense head of hair to begin with. I now have a normal amount of hair compared to other people. I have had some regrowth due to being post menopausal and no longer having all the hormonal fluctuations, but also I started HRT and collagen supplements. I tried biotin - it didn't work for me at all, but collagen seems to have helped a fair bit (having started the collagen and seeing a difference prior to the HRT). Stopping all the heat styling and looking after my hair better has made it shinier/healthier as well. Overall I do have some real regrowth without resorting to minoxidil which would have been my next step. I didn't have visible bald patches, but my hair lost about 50% of the volume of hair from before. I think I have regained another 20% back, so that's exciting. For those who are coping with menopause there has been light at the end of the tunnel re hair loss - at least for me, so don't despair as there are things out there to help. Best wishes.
Your hair looks so thick and healthy! Please do a video of what you’ve been doing lately! Oiling/massage/deep treatments/rinses etc....whatever you’re doing is working!
I was losing lots of hair. Went to the doctor and turned out I was almost severely anemic. My hair had almost no curl. Now that I’m not anemic, my hair is growing back curlier and fuller, which is great 😁, but now I have really curly pieces near my scalp and then... not so curly ones from mid to ends. I’m doing my best to get used to my new hair... and you’ve been a really big help. I’ve binged watched all your videos. Thanks Mell! ❤️
Sophie I did a couple things recommended by my doctor, I got a set of 10 iron injections because my hemoglobin levels were extremely low. I took a iron, B12, B6, D, zinc, copper and folic acid vitamin (it was an all in one vitamin pill thank God except for the Vit D). Ate tons of spinach, beets and legumes, specifically lentil soup. The iron vitamins can mess up your stomach, so I always ate before taking them and followed it up with a cup of orange juice to help with absorption. I wasn’t allowed to drink coffee or tea. And what I found helped a TON (and no nausea) was a mix of beet juice and carrot juice on an empty stomach in the morning for two weeks straight... that shot my hemoglobin levels up real fast. Following all of these recommendations, I was anemia free in three months or so. I hate beet and carrot juice, but every time I get my period I make sure to drink the mix just to make sure my levels don’t go below what’s normal because of blood loss. I just cover my nose and drink up 😋😖. Hope you’re able to recover soon!
@@Momopimko I think that’s what I have I’ve always been anemic .. and I’m loosing a lot right now not to mention lately I’ve been addicted to coffe all day everyday
My dermatologist did a biopsy and concluded that I have adrogenetic alopecia and is having me take Nutrafol. No prescription needed it’s a vitamin, just go to their website. Check out the ingredients, I’d love to hear what you think. It’s expensive but my bold spots are almost gone after 2 years. I’ve also stopped straightening my hair after 41 years and learned thanks to you how to style and love my natural curls.
Yes to hair loss from COVID-19! I was losing so much hair in the Spring and I panicked trying to find out what was making me lose hair. I was almost relieved to learn that the high fever was most likely the culprit and not some product ruining my curls!
Hi Mell, you probably won't see this, but the video means a lot to me. I've experienced several bouts of telogen effluvium for the past 2 years because several traumatic events happened in my family that just seemed to never stop. It seems like the worst has finally passed, but at the expense of what feels like 3/4 of my hair. Just when my hair was starting to recover, another horrible event would happened. I had hair that was even more dense and thicker than Amanda's and now its so much less than what it was. My neck used to hurt from how heavy my hair was and I now I can't feel it. I'm trying to accept that this is temporary and things will get better, but its really hard, and seeing your video has helped a lot. Hearing it from someone whose videos I enjoy and have taught me a lot really helps to assuage some of that fear and just trust the growth process. Thank you.
It's so nice to see Trich mentioned. I've had it for about 25 years at this point. I shaved my head in April because my pulling had started to get really bad again. Massaging my scalp and using jamaican black castor oil has seemed to really help my regrowth (I definitely had thin patches)
How long before you noticed results with the jamaican black castor oil? I tried it and didn't seem to see any difference, which then stresses me bc i worry my thin spots are permanent after all these years of trich.
@@katharinelindner5032 I'd say about 3 months, using at least 3 nights/week. I will say that it's not 100%. In my worst pull areas, it's still a little thinner than areas I never pulled as much from.
I've been (silently) watching your videos for a while now and look forward to Texture Tuesdays. You give so much good advice and are so positive. What I really loved about this video is the care you took for each of us to take care of ourselves, from our food intake to our mental state. This year has been a hard year for many of us and you acknowledge that and I truly appreciate you putting a focus on mental health and for people to have someone to talk to. And through all that, you remind us that we are beautiful. That's something we can all use a little, a lot, more of. So thank you. And all the information that you take to research and give us is great. And I can't forget to give kudos to your seester, Amanda for an amazing job editing this and all your videos. You guys make a fantastic team.
Thanks so much. My hair has thinned so much as I get older. On the issue of hair color, I'll say this--if you have dark hair and are going gray, either go gray all the way or cover it. But dark hair with gray around your temples creates an optical illusion where your "grays" don't register to the naked eye (the gray kind of disappears when you're looking at the hair as a whole), so it makes it look like you're missing all that hair.
Before starting my curl journey just 8 short weeks ago. I had a bad tangle in a bun and ripped off so much of the back of my head. I cried. And it still feels like it’s more bare than the rest of the head. I have so much hope. My curl journey is going well and I know that hair will grow back . Cuz you know #thebiggerthehairthehardertheystare 😂 I love you Mell 😭🥰 my hair owes you soooo much!!!
girl how are you uploading videos i have screamed for in my mind but never out loud? you really cover everything with hair and i couldn't be more grateful.
I loved this video, I have scalp psoriasis and polycystic ovarian syndrome with hiperandrogenism. This video literally calms me down and helps me manage my anxiety (and fear) about how much hair I lose, I even realized that I have improved with proper treatment. Love your work ✊❤️
@@bella_grace4671 Hi you can get a steroid scalp treatment from your doctor is it's really bad. It is designed for scalp use and is a different strength/texture from the cream/ointment for your body. I'm in the UK, but you may be able to buy it from a pharmacy in other parts of the world.
Honestly am extremely grateful that you made this video. I’m only 23 years old, in the past 1-2 years, I’ve noticed an extreme change in my hair. I’ve always had long, healthy curly hair. I felt like I always had pretty strong and healthy hair. But in the past 1-2 years, I’ve noted a lot of hair loss. My curl pattern seemed looser, and frankly didn’t want to curl anymore. Due to Covid, I really got in my feelings about this because I also noticed parts of hair were short, as if they were growing because I had experienced loss in that section. I’m currently am seeing a doctor and doing test to really see what’s going on within. Due to Covid, I also came across your videos. I felt like I could really trust your judgement and has helped me change my curly hair routine. Although my hair is still excessively falling out, my curls look much healthier. Thanks to you, I found products that worked for me. ❤️
Wow. I don’t know you would all but this comment just spoke to my soul. Over the last year, I’ve also noticed change in my hair. I’m someone who had long, healthy thick curly hair as well. When suddenly, six months ago. Things started changing. My curls became looser, my hair started excessively shedding, and I finally just gave in and got a pixie cut. I took a blood test and it turns out I have low iron.
I can relate to both of you, my hair before covid was long, thick, with shiny curls but now i’m thinning so bad in one area it’s bothering me so much. I don’t even know what to do, how can I regrow my hair? I don’t even know what products to use
I'm 24 and having the same issue. I think the combo of Covid, school, and a stressful relationship affected my hair. I hope our hair is healthier this next year!
YAAAASSSS! Thank you for posting this video- I nearly had a heart attack this weekend when I washed and detangled my hair.... I’m happy I’m not alone! ❤️
Mell you are such a queen 👑 and you are helping me so much in my transitioning phase back to my naturally curly hair! This video helped so much - I was starting to get scared by the hair I pulled out of my detangling brush! All the love and support in the world to you and your seester!! 💞
Sorry I know this is my second comment but can I just say again WOW 🤩 TY I am actually working hard to get healthy and I am losing a lot of hair as we change my bio chemistry. I truly believe it will stop but your video made me feel so much better!! You are a fantastic teacher. Some ppl are made for UA-cam and YOU are one of the best! Ty 💕💕💕
I constantly feel that you read my mind, a lot of your videos come in the moment that I need them the most, so thank you!!! I have been massaging my hair for a week and a half, so I'm glad that was a recommendation
Trichotillomania, stress & PCOS are 3 things that I suffer from and it shows in my hair 😭 I’m finishing uni this year which has been a major source of stress so I’m going to go for habit reversal therapy to treat trich & stress simultaneously 🙌🏽 I’ve spoken about it on my UA-cam & it’s not easy to talk about but thank you for doing so 🌸🌸
I loved what you said at the end, thank you so much for showing me how to not only style and take care of my waves but how to feel confident with them too. You are such a joy to watch!
Oh my gosh, you're an angel! I've been losing a lot of hair recently and I know it's partly because my anxiety is at an all time high, to the point that I was visibly shaking today. Knowing that, I still thought there was something wrong with me and that nobody else had the same issue. Your video helped put the problem into perspective and now I know it's not unfixable. Also, thank you for not trying to push any specific product on us and for approaching this as a human issue rather than a business one. There are so many overpriced hair loss products out there that don't even work yet influencers swear by, that's why I'm so skeptical, but I'm so glad I stumbled across your channel because you're so real and honest! That was such an informative, comforting video, and I can't wait for your next one 💕
Thank you for this!.. and YES I would LOVe to see u show the routines to hide the scalp.. I know you said to avoid tight styles.. but the only way I can conceal my scalp is to throw it up in a pineapple.. I'd love to wear my hair down more often but you can see too much scalp and I'm self conscious.. I've had a few people tell me my hair looks so thin on top and its devastating to hear 😭
As someone who has multiple autoimmune disorders that effect both the texture and the fullness of my hair, I am really appreciating this video. I have had to accept that I will likely never fully have my old hair texture back, but I I refuse to stop battling the hair loss and poor condition of my scalp.
Thank you for this!! Appreciate the time you take to make these videos and share your expertise & knowledge. My journey to embracing and loving my curls has been greatly eased through watching your videos and learning the best ways to love my curls.
I’ve had fine curly hair since birth. 44 years I’ve been walking around with this head of hair, never knowing what to do with it. I recently found your channel, made a couple of changes and finally feel like I’m friends with my hair. Can’t even tell you how much trauma is related to having and trying to care for, and learning to love my hair. Very grateful for your channel and content!
Thank you thank you THANK YOU for this. I have a curl pattern similar to yours but my hair is very fine and very thin already so any amount of fallout has me afraid I’m going to lose the tiny amount of volume I already have to fight for. You’re an angel for giving me/us this much needed reassurance!!!
Mel I used to not even be able to turn a hair elastic. A pregnancy, Thyroid removal and now I can turn it 3 times! I bought a Red Light therapy brush (HairMax) and I have new growth in the areas I've used it for sure. So glad my temples and part have finally filled in (1.5 years) Unfortunately they are all coming in gray white and silver! I recently decided to let my B2 waves show again - CGM beginner here. Love all your older videos. So glad you are still here!
MELL OH MY LORD THIS IS SUCH A GOOD TIME FOR A VIDEO LIKE THIS! The biggest factor I discovered that was making me actually lose a lot of hair is NOT PROPERLY CLEANSING! I had disgusting dandruff due to not cleansing my hair properly and it took me like 3 washes to get rid of it. And I KID YOU NOT, as soon as I got rid of all the dandruff and I felt like my scalp was very clean, I immediately started to notice that I'm shedding "normally" again!
Girl, thank you for this video. I've definitely been facing stress induced hair loss because of this crazy year. I'm seeing my scalp for the first time in decades and it has stressed me out even more. I'm feeling a little more hopeful about it now! 😊💕
Oohh gosh I really needed to hear this right now🥰 The last stylist I went to was like: “yeah your hair is healthy but you have a little hair loss” And since then i have always worried that the amount I am loosing is excessive but honestly it’s absolutely normal so know that I now that for sure I can stop stressing myself about it so thanks ❤️😂
Ok this gave me some relief. Thank you. I also recommend Amla powder for the scalp, I’m going back to that, it always helped me with growing out hair and prevent hair loss
Wow, brilliant Mell, you put things across so well for us to understand. I know this will undoubtedly help lots of people and make them feel much more at ease if they are suffering hair loss. You can see how much effort you and Amanda put into these videos, thank you ♥️. Oh and yes, I was still watching!
Mell 🥺🥺🥺 Thank you so much! I veer going crazy with my hair lost. Between changing countries of residence, starting a new life and COVID. I've been going bolder than ever. I was literary waiting for this video 😍😍😍 THANK YOU. Your the best. And yes you have help me a lot! ❤️❤️❤️
Your presentation was very informative. Thank you for this video, I've learned a lot. Your very funny, I love watching your videos. I will stop stressing about my hair loss, cause like you stated every week is different amount and for me it is. Maybe it's my iron that's causing it because my iron is very low..anyway thanks for the information.
Mell, thank you so much for bringing awareness to trichotillomania! I'm a cosmetologist with trich myself and none of my coworkers have even heard of the disorder, or know I have it. I've been too ashamed to discuss it and I've been at this salon for 6 years. Luckily through determination I've mostly got it under control. This video was so helpful and informative, thank you so much for continuing to make amazing content for us.
Oh honey, you have no idea how much I have waited for this video. I have fine low density hair, soooo it's a real problem sometimes. I use many of your hairstyle tips from this video ahahaha
I had T. Effluvium start 2 weeks ago. A tennis ball size of hair came out. I brewed green tea and sprayed it in my roots over 3 days and let it dry in. Over 1 week the excessive shedding stopped. Good luck!❤️
I was literally JUST searching about hair regrowth after some hair loss at the very moment this video appeared in my notifications lol. Guess I'm watching this!
I love a Mell who is selling knowledge instead of products this week!! But also- to sell me everything cuz shopping alleviates stress. More seriously, I would love more content about styling low density hair- I feel like so many curly influencers have great density which just isn't necessarily what a lot of us are even close to styling with. We out here with less hairs trying to be cute!!
Every time I run my hands lightly through my hair, 3 or 4 hairs come out. Every time. I could do it every 30 minutes and it still happens. Is this normal?
My house is full of hair, every time I touch it I have a good 10 hairs or more in my hand, 2 sec later, I do it again, I still have 5-10 hair. I can see the scalp and that is not me. I honestly am going to see the dr in a few days.
Very comprehensive, loved the video. As others have mentioned, thyroid issues will also cause hair loss. The ironic thing is that instead of going to the doctor some might be tempted to take a biotin supplement, since these are so popular, but excessive biotin can actually cause inaccurate thyroid test results should a test be done.
Thank you Mell! I've been suffering with thinning hair since starting a new medication for my autoimmune disease. I always used to have super thick curly hair now I can see my scalp and have to wrap my scrunchies multiple times. Its devastating, but this video really helped.
I cannot tell you how helpful this is to me. Like... crying because I need this reassurance that I'm not going bald when I detangle in the shower and get like 20 hairs coming out like one big strand. Thank you. I'm a bit crazy don't mind me.
So glad I found you! I have been binging Brad Mondo and decided to look for something more specific for my hair type and after watching a few others I have fallen in love with your personality (not in a creepy way). Thank you for making these videos for people like me, been searching my whole life for haircare for these curls.
I needed this February 2019! Turns out I had telogen effluvium from having the flu three months prior. Losing your hair, and not knowing why is so dramatic, and traumatic!
This is by far the most informative video on this topic. Thank you for educating all of us. I just washed my hair and I lost so much hair that I started freaking out. I don’t normally lose that much amount of hair. But this made a lot of sense and I feel much better now. Thank you again for this. ❤️
Menopause has me looking like I’m making a toupe when I wash! Stress makes it worse. I cut 5 inches off of my hair because I thought, if I’m going to lose it, it’ll be less traumatic if it’s short. Then I forgot how much I dig chin length curls on me!
Was just thinking about this and hoping to find a video showing the amount of someone's hair fall on their wash day! And ofc you've made a video on it! Like there are so many wash day routine videos and none of them ever acknowledge hair fall so I never know how much is normal. Seriously thanks a lot for this!
Hi Mell just wanted to tell you that you are such an inspiration for me and watching your videos has brought so much joy in my life, a lot of problems I had with my curly hair you solved them for me , you inspired me to start taking care of my hair and never give up on them even when they are soooo messy most of the time, but its just the beginning. soo you're kind of a mentor to me 😘 please never stop making videos and know that you are loved from all around the world I'm from a little country called Kosova (you probably never heard of this place 😂) but I follow you all the time on instagram as well as on UA-cam. Even though most of the products you use I can't get in here because they don't ship to my country, but I try with what we have and its going great so far. Love you dearly and I hope your life is filled with love and success 💜
“It makes you feel like shit but it’s normal to shed.” 😂 I’m learning so much Mell! And Amanda, the editing is fire like always! ! 🖤🖤 Thank you seesters for this video, I needed it. I cannot WAIT for the following videos in this series. 🙏🏼🖤
Thank you so much for the info and the pep talk! I really needed this. I've lost somewhere between 1/2 to 3/4 of my hair since July because of stress. 😫 Looking forward to the rest of the videos in this series! (Also yes, I was still watching 😉)
Just to expand a bit on what Mel said about seasonal shedding. The heaviest shedding is in autumn/fall and spring. As a general rule of thumb when your cat/dog is shedding the most, so are you.
Stress is such a pain. My husband had gotten a bad ear infection right as we're dealing with my medical issues and I was getting ready for surgery. Not only was my hair falling out like crazy but my stress caused my white blood cell count to get too high for surgery and had to fix it. Luckily the stressers have since lessened greatly (he's better, back at work and insurance paid for medical leave thankfully) I've finally gotten my WBC down and rescheduled the surgery. Hoping my hair thickens back up soon, I'm sure it will but stress makes it fall out so bad.

Ok, but can we talk about how fricking annoying hair loss is under the shower? I swear, I spend at least 30 minutes under the water just plucking loose hair from my fingers
I know right
Super annoying having to do that and it gets in my butt crack too (weird Ik🤦🏽♀️) which is why I’ve started washing it in the sink.
Mine yes. So annoying and I have to make sure it doesn't clog the drain in my tub 😣
Michele Torres Have you tried a sink strainer? It catches the hairs and you just clean it out once you’re done with your shower.
oooh and how the balls will cling to your yoga towel and interweave into your leggings LOL
definitely needed this, i lose so much hair in the shower it makes so sad.
Ditto that. It's brought me to tears.
Same. It is scary to see it fall out in clumps😩
Yeah same... But mostly in the shower! When I brush I don't see that much hair falling out... Tbh I don't wash my hair daily, maybe every two to three days, and I have wavy/curly hair... But when I do wash it, it comes out in a big hairball... Makes me sad and scared every time...
How much is so much? Did you ever count it?
I also have a thyroid condition so I relate to the first part so much, thanks for your words
Hello love, have you tried rosemary oil? It helps tremendously
This video had more emotional support than I was expecting and I cried. This was really what I needed. My hairs been having more fall in the last two years and I was having serious anxiety about it which made it so much worse.
How much hair were you loosing in a day?
I can't possibly be the only one who literally takes notes while watching "Manes By Mell" videos, right? ☺ So much INFORMATION!! Thank you for making us all this 🤏 much smarter, Mell! 😁💜
Lol so true
Righttt?? Like I literally have an album of screenshots of the info mell talks about. And Amanda's editing makes it so much betterrr🤧❤️
Girl...You are NOT alone!!!!
i legit have a whole noteboook for this xd
You’ve given me a sense of relief, because I was loosing a lot of hair. Thank you for that thorough explanation for hair fall out. I’ll try not to stress too much, but with four boys and an annoying husband I don’t see how that’s possible. Lol
Lol relatable
One of the best things about your channel, other than the content of course, is that your comment section is always so positive and friendly.💕
When she said to love what you DO have! It's like she's in my heart!!
‘Unless you are a doctor, remember that you are not a doctor’. That is pure gold!!!
@@vanshika6798 The issue isn't you, it's the products you're using. More specifically, the ingredients in the products you're using.
Same here girl, I have scalp psoriasis and its effects are awful and so depressing, im so glad she put this up it makes me feel better
Same I’ve felt the difference and thinning of my hair it’s hard but hopefully it gets better
1:00 what a sensitive and compassionate queen
I literally needed this video so bad... my hair is going through a HUGE shedding period right now, and it’s been freaking me out. Definitely needed this.
Bless you for spending so much time and effort doing this.🥰
Oh yes, those hormonal changes...
Jones (OBGYN youtuber):
Pregnant people who feel like they're going through either abnormal amounts of hair growth/health and then abnormal amounts of hair loss are experiencing a phenomenon where hair cycles will sync during pregnancy!
Dairy products inhibit iron absorbing FYI
@@aleksandralempart8305 that's right! Dairy is also full of hormones, creates inflammation, and actually DEPLETES calcium!
Low Ferritin is a bitch, so sneaky and to top it, there are doctors who don't realise its importance to iron deficiency.
@@aleksandralempart8305 You have to give a time space of about 2 hours between iron and calcium to improve absorption.
@@Justine_Marie It depends on the dairy source.
Same!! A low, loose braid or the front pieces clipped back with a claw clip is the only way I pull my hair back and it’s helped so much!
THANK GOD FOR THIS VIDEO. I'VE BEEN LOSING MY HAIR LIKE IT'S NOT EVEN SUPPOSED TO BE IN MY HEAD😭😭😭😭 THANK YOU MEL, I LOVE YOU!!
Amen to that✌
Amanda killed the editing and production phase!
That said, it is really, really tough to stop and even after 12 years, I'm still pulling out a few hairs a day :/
My mother has this too. She doesn’t believe she’s doing it but we can literally watch her do it. Is there anything you do that helps you? Ty 💛
Me toooo! It's so very hard, I've never met anyone else with it.
worrying about hair loss, only to lose more from all the worrying. this saved me.
As someone who suffers from scalp psoriasis, I just wanna say thank you Mel for this comforting video I truly love you and Amanda and all the content, but THIS felt like it was made for me ❤ thank you seesters.
If you dont mind me asking, what do you use for your psoriasis? Mines flaring and driving me nuts!
You are like a breath of fresh air. Wish I had your advise in the 80s when big hair was in but no idea how to treat it .
Massaging my scalp and using jamaican black castor oil has seemed to really help my regrowth (I definitely had thin patches)
it's the hardest thing to overcome, sending you love
Thank you for all the education you provide us regarding our hair. You are the best hair influencer!!! And no BS, you always tell it like it is.
Love your work ✊❤️
If you dont mind me asking, what do you use on your psoriasis? Mine has recently flared
I have pcos too and the hairfall scares me 😭😭
@@bella_grace4671 Hi you can get a steroid scalp treatment from your doctor is it's really bad. It is designed for scalp use and is a different strength/texture from the cream/ointment for your body. I'm in the UK, but you may be able to buy it from a pharmacy in other parts of the world.
I came running to your channel when 3 clumps of hair came out the same day , my hair feels so thin . Thank god for you !
I appreciate you mell
Yay!! I literally worried when I see too much hair lost. I'm sooo ready for this Mell!! ❤🥰
Please let me know if your hair has become healthier 🥹
You just saved me. I was so concerned about my shedding lately and I really wanted You to make a vídeo about that topic. Thanks so much!!

I can’t stress how important it is enough 😭😭 I will die happy sounding like a broken record because SCALP CARE & CLEANSING CANNOT BE IGNORED!
This! My hairdresser said my follicles looked congested. I think ditching the CGM method of no poo and plopping has really improved my scalp!
Why did the ending almost make me cry 😢. You are so amazing 👏
I literally needed this video. My hair is going crazy. Thank you Mell❤

Oohh gosh I really needed to hear this right now🥰
The last stylist I went to was like:
“yeah your hair is healthy but you have a little hair loss”
And since then i have always worried that the amount I am loosing is excessive but honestly it’s absolutely normal so know that I now that for sure I can stop stressing myself about it so thanks ❤️😂

Every time I run my hands lightly through my hair, 3 or 4 hairs come out. Every time. I could do it every 30 minutes and it still happens. Is this normal?
I'm guessing you have fibro? Might be a correlation. Fibromyalgia is an inflammatory disease, correct? This effects hair if I'm not mistaken
Thats normal! Happens to everyone

You shed, I shed, we shed, everybody sheds!! Thank you Mell and Amanda for another amazing video!! You guys are the best!! ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you Mell! I've been suffering with thinning hair since starting a new medication for my autoimmune disease. I always used to have super thick curly hair now I can see my scalp and have to wrap my scrunchies multiple times. Its devastating, but this video really helped.

Thanks for this. It’s kind of nerve wracking seeing my hair ball when I clean the drain. This makes me feel much better about it.
“It makes you feel like shit but it’s normal to shed.” 😂 I’m learning so much Mell! And Amanda, the editing is fire like always! ! 🖤🖤 Thank you seesters for this video, I needed it. I cannot WAIT for the following videos in this series. 🙏🏼🖤
Amanda is a great editor....appreciate all ur hard work. 🥰. Violet
Yesssss was waiting for the premiere to show up ! Glad you guys got it up ! 💜💕💜💜💕💜💕💜💕💜 I’m early
