- Monsters and shootouts abound in this animated western comedy following an overconfident kid, his apathetic partner, and a spider-girl with some serious boundary issues. What will it take to save CliffSide from some rather unconventional evil in the surrounding cliffs, and will our hero ever actually learn anything?
Episode 1 - "Pilot"
Getting tangled up with an excitable spider-monster named Cordie who suffers from a validation complex to rival his own, Waylon quickly learns his bold gunslinger talk leads to horrifying actions when put into practice by his new super-fan. Now he’s got some explaining to do and a western standoff or two to perform if he hopes to scrape by without learning anything from this whole ordeal.

Words cannot express how mad I am at the fact that this hasn't been made into a real thing. From the first time I saw it 4 years ago, to now, it still slaps as hard. There are so many things in the pilot that are just genius, such as the 4th wall breaking and how it's executed, to the music choices and expertise in knowing when to cut it off, to create horror or comedic effect. I would genuinely watch an entire series of this if it was made into a thing. This has massive potential and I hope it gets made into something real. This is quite literally a masterpiece, no sugarcoating.
This Pilot is so hooking, and every time I watch this I get more intrigued about the universe. Words cannot describe how much I am already hooked on this universe. I could seriously just ramble and rant on about how much I want to see this as a series. Please, if you can, and you want to, do make this into a series. This has so much potential to be a great series, and I would support it!
Well Murder Drones more than makes up for it IMO, and perhaps Liam will revive this series with the funding from Glitch once Murder Drones is over.

I can see the similarities in style by the iconic smiles with murder drones and how the spider has in common with V

Cordie is similar to N more, in my opinion. From the similar design / color palette (yellow colored eyes + hair, and if you look at the clothes they are similar) to the fact that both looked scary and threatening at first, but then we found out that they are cute.

I’ve known about cliffside for a couple years at this point but I just keep coming back to it and rewatching it. Something about its comedic timing, slightly supernatural setting, and the amazing character that is Cordy keeps the pilot fresh, exciting, and hilarious even with the amount of times I’ve rewatched it.

The humour overall was perfect

Cordy's teeth is really similar to the disassembly drone's mouth structures. I think that the design of the teeth placement with Cordy is either an early draft, or Murder Drones is using it as a reference. Cool asf, loved this pilot

Its referring to the accent found in the southern part of America. It's hard to explain culture, but I think its that she was angry enough to drop her more "refined" way of speaking and slip into the accent.
Looking at the humor in the rest of the episode, it could also be a jab at the fact that the previous line was spoken differently from everything else she said.

Well we have Terry Pratchett's _The Hogfather_ where an assassin tries to kill the winter god Hogfather (basically Santa Claus) and Death temporarily takes over the Hogfather's job and manipulates his own granddaughter into investigating the case.

& i like the design of the Characters overall, especially Death's 3-dimensional Hands & and his Rift ability (8:38), Cordie's Face & the Idea of giving the big Spider Crab-like Claws (since Crabs are to some amount big Spiders, so it would probably make sense for such a Creature to develop those)👍

I think that "Background street crosser" is what got me laughing here the most. Its all amazing, but the casual "Oh, there I go!" After being launched by DEATH ITSELF has the same energy as Vsauce Micheal holding a watermelon on a roof and saying "I am in control."
Imagine if at the end of the series, he’s revealed to be some powerful god, and that’s why he survived being mauled and being flung by LITERAL death.

@@jamesputterlik225 Only if they believe you. Not to dump out my metaphorical purse here, but somebody clumsily tried this on me over the course of months and it didn't work because I didn't buy it. A rare upside of depression, moderate cynicism, and having no other individual compliment me. I just didn't trust their motivations because their behavior was a serious outlier. Never trust anyone trying to sell you something.
I can't believe it has been 5 years since this came out, then we got Murder Drones from you over at Glitch, we may never get a full series or any more content of Cliffside with it now being half a decade old, but it will still remain as a gold standard for animated series, and for that I thank you.

He uses validation to get people to do what he wants, and by playing the fool he constantly validates others and makes them feel better for not being him
How is it that when around his "deputy", he fumbles his gun, but while training Cordie he does it so well that she becomes a terrifyingly competent gunslinger?
He manipulates Cordie into robbing the bank for him, then plays it off as him getting up to his antics by accident, which Jo FULLY BELIEVES AND LETS HIM OFF FOR
Then he CONVINCED DEATH ITSELF to become the Sheriff through the same validation trick
There's more layers to this theory but i fucking love it

Well, he did confessed that he once shot a sheriff, and at the end we learned that "someone" shot previous sheriff and "culprit was never found" so...
