@@AlwaysYellFore i'm really pleased so far, for the price you pay you get a good smart watch. It does everything and more you want from a watch. The gps is accurate, and you can adjust oiption in the watch it self but also with the 2 apps that come with the watch. I can recommend the watch !

Ahhh, nearly perfect, the screen refresh could be better/quicker for a smoother experience. I'd trade some battery life for that. The music version and the ability to listen to music/podcasts without your phone sounds good.

Very nice review. I wasn't aware there was a new version until I got an email announcement from Garmin and immediately came to your channel to see if you would be reviewing it. I had tried the original put ended up returning it because I still felt my Vivoactive 4 was better in almost every regard. However, the SQ 2 looks much better. Does it still take the same wrist band straps? And when they say 17% larger screen, is it really that noticeable the screen is larger?
The display is noticeably larger (notice the Garmin logo is not there on the Venu Sq 2). Same straps as the original Venu Sq 2. Thanks!
@@DesFit Thanks for clarifying. The lack of stair climbing tracking / hiking makes me stick with my Vivoactive 4. If Garmin releases a Vivoactive 5 and a Venu 3, that will be a much tougher choice but I'm going to have to pass on this one and stick with what I have that's still working well.

Hi Des, great videos. My old vivoactive 3 has given me great service but it's getting old. I like it's ability to keep track of my climbs/descents when cycling. Would the GPS accuracy of the Sq2 be able to do something similar? Or the lack of Altitude sensor would be felt here?

Sort of part of the issue is that there are so many watch faces out there. Kind of a gigantic rabbit hole.

I have had a Garmin Venu sq 2 for a few weeks now, and it does not track heart rate data accurately. After playing basketball for 30 minutes, my heart rate never went above 105 bpm, even though I was hypoxic. After leaving the court, my heart rate shot up to 140. When I run on the treadmill, it seems to track okay. Doing HIIT exercises does not result in accurate tracking. It will also give me a move alert while I am at the driving range, hitting a golf ball every 30 seconds or less. I am disappointed in the accuracy so far. I had a Fitbit Versa 2 that seemed to track heart rate with more precision. The Garmin battery life is outstanding. It will last for a week on one charge.
is this watch still worth it? I'm planning to buy one, any alternate suggestions around this price point please?

Hi, I believe it’s now an exact copy of the venu 2, but in a square form. I was honestly hoping it will be more towards the venu 2 plus!
The Venu 2 has an altimeter, a few more sport profiles, as well as more animations 👍

Great review. I know you’ve tested various watches with skiing, do you know how the skiing mode works when there is no altimeter?
You can track runs manually using the lap key but it won't separate out the downhills from the time spent on the chairlift automatically like one of their watches with an altimeter. However, you could press the lap key for both uphill and downhill sections. Hope that helps. Thanks!

Check the specs on Garmin's own website. The Venu line doesn't have any advanced training metrics (Training Status, HRV Status, Training Readiness etc.).

The body battery feature is really only available on Garmin devices, so this or the Venu 2 would be good.

From a high level a lot of the topics I cover in this video (ua-cam.com/video/ryH-y0sMccI/v-deo.html) are applicable but the Venu Sq 2 doesn't have an altimeter and there are a lot of new running features that are releasing with WatchOS9 for the Apple Watch like wrist based running power. Which is better for running? Venu sq2 or forerunner 255? I want something thats easy to use and track my run accurately
Both would be accurate but the 255 provides much more training, recovery, and performance feedback. Plus it’s much easier to use during sports having a 5 button interface.
So to be clear it cannot take a call on the phone, no speaker and microphone?
This model doesn't have a speaker or microphone but the Venu 2 Plus does.

Vivoactive 5 or Venu Sq2 (music edish) if screen-form is not a deal-breaker? There is a bout 70$~ difference between the two (where I live) the Vivoactive 5 being the more expensive one. How sluggish does the refresh rate on the Sq2 feel? Is it really annoying? @DesFit

I'm not sold, screen still looks cheap and low res, screen seems much nicer on Venu 2. Seems like a good watch just for that screen
It's the same display technology but I don't think they are utilizing quite as much as the Venu 2 where the Venu 2 has animations and such. May be a balance of battery life since it's a smaller device.

Spotify, Amazon Music, and Deezer are the options currently available on the Venu Sq 2. iHeartRadio made an appearance on the Forerunner 645 Music, vivoactive 3 Music, and Fenix 5 series but hasn't come back for some reason or another. Thanks!

what about sleep tracking? garmin venu sq sleep tracking is quite shit.... I used to have fitbit before it, and it even could see my day naps, and really accurate sleep, while venu sq can't see day naps, and also it thinks that when I lay down in bed I fall to sleep immediately, while fitbit could understand that im not sleeping, and just scrolling in my phone...
still no hiking and trail run tho right?
The Venu 2 has a hiking profile and then trail running is available on most of their Forerunner series and higher, most likely due to the lack of altimeter.
