You just made me feel good about choosing this watch. It's supposed to be arriving tomorrow. I'm not a hard-core athlete. I will be walking exclusively because I can't run. I need a knee replacement but have to lose weight before the doctors will touch me. Just looking to track my walks and watch my heart rate so this watch is perfect. Got the music edition.
The Venu SQ 2 watch is awesome! BIG THANK YOU Chase the Summit for pointing me to what I needed! And big THANK YOU Garmin for making a watch that is durable and with it's purchase I didn't go over budget unnecessarily. The interface is responsive, when you using the watch you'll never notice a lag or so (tested way to many watches?:D), the elevation in all sports is not visible but is on the app because the GPS detects it, which is awesome. The GPS is very precise and spot accurate, it's light weight, bright screen and long lasting battery life.
I had not seen this review before but I think I made a perfect choice of buying Venu sq 2. Its my first smart watch and I use it to track my gym activities. I find it pretty accurate and in sync with the gym equipment.
Thank you so much for this review. I' m sold. I fit under everyday person, casual user trying to get back in shape. There are so many watches out there it is difficult to make a decision when you don't know what you want. This video helped me a lot I am not going to look at any more videos to fog up my mind. Now to find a Mint Green SQ 2 (very popular apparently) I'll probably go direct to Garmin and order from them. Thank you, thank you, thank you 🥰
Thank you for the detailed review. My first Garmin was the original Venu SQ. It was a solid watch, but it lacked a few things. I work outside, so using a touchscreen in winter is a NO-GO. I also had some trouble when I wore long-sleeved shirts. It seemed that the combination of sweat and long sleeves were activating the screen, so I would get all kinds of crazy stuff going on. One more thing is that many people assumed that I had an AppleWatch, and that actually started to get on my nerves. I made the switch to an Instinct Solar. I gave the old Venu to a friend and it's still working for him.
As a dissatisfied Fitbit Versa 2 user who had a touchscreen die and the replacement unit is suffering the same fate, I got the Venu SQ 2 as a Christmas present and so far it's very good. It's pretty straightforward to use, the phone connectivity is good, and it does everything I want it to.
The OG Sq was my first garmin and it worked well for me. This is a compelling option but I have moved to the more running focused watches! The screen is such a nice upgrade!
I'm glad you made this video. It's hard to really make sense of the options from the Garmin site, and this SQ 2 looks exactly like what I need (and especially the relative thinness). This is the watch I will get.
Thanks for the review. In my country, the official warranty of Venu 2S is being sold for around $440 due to import tax. If Venu SQ 2 will come here at around $275 and has the same sensors as Venu 2S then I will definitely consider the SQ 2. Was thinking to grab the Galaxy Watch 5 but I hate the battery anxiety of the current Android smartwatches. ☹
I have the original SQ for all the reasons that you suggest buying the SQ 2 for. However, I am getting annoyed with not having an altimeter and the battery life on the original SQ isn't great either. Upgrading to the SQ 2 would give me better battery life, but still no altimeter, so I will most likely be looking at getting a Forerunner for my upgrade.
Yeah it doesn't seem like there was much improved here from the original to the second gen... And the price is still the same or even more than what it was for the original.
@Jonathan M. idk seems like a kinda epic upgrade. The fitbit sence to the sence 2 isn't a upgrade but this... 12 day battery life. Way better design with no garmin logo. Bigger vibrant screen. I didn't want the venue sq but I do want this one. It just looks so much more legit.
Thank you for this helpful video. I bought the Garmin venue SQ2 on eBay and I really didn’t know everything about it. Your video was extremely helpful! 😊
Nice video!!!! Very helpful. I wonder..... How many garmin owners REALLY need more from a watch like venu sp2. I think the only handicap is that it doesn't have a barometer. Nice watch!
Excellent review- you really pack in your very comprehensive review with you trademark fast talking and tight editing. I think I'll be getting a 255 later this year, but I watched this for the entertainment!
Was thinking of the Venu but after watching both your reviews the Sq2 seems a good enough improvement to warrant the price difference. Now I just need to see if I can get the same discount through my company health provider as it's not on their list yet!
@@danielvargo8369 im thinking about getting the Fenix 7 or the Epix now that the screens are more vibrant. I went from the Fenix 6s sapphire to the Venu 2 for the screen. I'm missing the more in depth training stats the Fenix has.
Fantastic video. I've watched about a dozen on this watch and this is the most comprehensive. One correction tho... The sq 2 can track elevation using GPS, which in some cases can be even more accurate than a barometric altimeter because the latter is subject to changes in data due to humidity and other factors. Anyhow it's splitting hairs, but the bottom line is they are both very capable. Can't wait to get mine!
Yes it will collect elevation data after it’s sync’d to Garmin Connect but elevation data isn’t available during activities in real time without an altimeter. For example if you want the “elevation gain” data field while hiking it’s not possible on the SQ2 even though will get that data after the fact in Connect.
I'm wondering if I made the right decision by ordering the Fitbit sense 2, maybe I should have ordered this eatch over the Fitbit. I wanted to get the Garmin vivoactive 5 but funds are a little short due to an unforeseen major repair with my bathroom. I like quite a few of the features and the interface.

@@ChaseTheSummit Thanks for the speedy reply, that’s great to know and answers my question.I’m considering getting one, looking at other options but most watches seem to have relatively poor battery, like the Samsung Galaxy 5.

Unfortunately music really crushes the battery life on these watches. I would suggest either bringing your phone or using an external MP3 style player for your music if you need it for that duration of time.
It does have profiles for Ski/Snowboard but without the altimeter will not display elevation data during your ski activity. However, once you sync the activity to Garmin Connect the activity will use GPS elevation data so you will get an idea of your ascent/descent it will just be based off of GPS elevation data rather than the altimeter. During a ski activity you simply hit the lap key for every time you complete a run so that it will be separated in the activity file to give you stats like max/min speed and how many runs were completed. Hope that helps!

Hello, very informative. What is the Face Widget used as your main clock display? Hoping I can download it on my VenuSq.

Does it show the altitude and/or vertical meters during an activity like hiking? Since it doesn't have an altimeter, I was wondering if it shows that by using GPS.
Thanks for this one and all the other reviews, I really like your videos
Nope, unfortunately it doesn't feature a barometer or altimeter to read that data.
There are Connect IQ data fields that show altitude. Not having a barometer the values will not be very precise.
With the accurate GPS on the Sq2, would not elevation data be available on outdoor activities?
There's no hardware altimeter on the SQ2 but you'll still get elevation data after your activities when sync'd to Garmin Connect or Strava.

I prefer the transreflective displays. I don't understand how AMOLED is superior. More colorful, perhaps. Maybe that's what this watch is aimed at...
Neither one is superior. It will really boil down to your personal preference. That said, AMOLED seems to be the direction most brands are moving now.
