The people are often poor in wealth but rich in hospitality, manners, and respect 🙏 I was forced to retire early and once I had the crazy 🤪 of the U.S. seems to have exploded! Here as a single man with some savings and at least $2,000 in disposable income monthly. You not only can live well but you can actually save money for investing, vacationing, medical procedures... And the women that don't ask for much are the ones you wanna share everything with 🎉
I lived in Buenos Aires for 10 years, and for my lifestyle, I needed 1500- 2000 US dollars per month to live comfortably. Remember Buenos Aires is a truly wonderful international city.

Hello Felix, Just started watching you a few weeks ago, and have been following Gino over a year. Great interview by the way! I'm from Detroit originally but lived in several states through the years. I'm dying to relocate to Columbia but I'm in another paradise, Pattaya, Thailand and living the dream! Been here almost 8 months and with a wonderful Thai woman that I just won't leave. I live in a one bedroom highrise condo, facing the ocean and 7 islands, for only $340 a month! Everything is so inexpensive here, my quality of life is ridiculously high by comparison to anywhere in the US. But I have to say, knowing Spanish fairly well, and between the climate, food, culture and lush greenery Columbia is my next go to for my retired life. Life outside the US for retirees on a fixed income can be sooo much better! Gino, I and many more retirees are now living the dream! Spanish is an easy language to learn. Thai is more difficult but download Google Translate, it makes life so much easier! To those who are retired, on a small fixed income, do your due diligence FIRST, but just stop barely surviving, get the hell out and live a better life for a change! It's waiting for you!
Absolutely true. Just rented a 3 bedroom house in Soledad Atlántico a suburb of Barranquilla for equivalent of $127.00 per month Electric, Gas and Water for only another $42 per month. Moved to Colombia from Panama and I already know it was the right move.
The problem in the U.S. is not just rent or mortgage. The utilities and taxes will break you. Gas+Electric-300 , Water-200 , Prop Taxes-500 , HOA-100 , Cable-150. Total = 1250/Mo.
That’s about right. We don’t have to pay for water or HOA and with our senior tax exemption we pay about $500 a year in property taxes on 4.5 acres with a small duplex we own. We don’t pay any state taxes.
I am from Colombia and my advise fire retired people that want to live in n Colombia is that spend some months in these gorgeous zones of my country: Santander and the Coffee Zone are special nice zones fm because, they have beautiful labdscapes, friendly people, a lot of plans to do and very good hospitals, in the case of illness. They can live happy and with good modern life or to live in a little town close to a one of the cities.

Stop making comparisons to the cost of living in US cities and even stop thinking and converting into dollars when you're doing purchases in Colombia, even meals, clothing etc.Think in pesos, you're going to live in Colombia think like a Colombian, think in pesos, not dollars. This way you won't give yourself a false sense of illusion that everything is so so cheap and your money will go a lot a lot further! Muche Suerte a todos ;)
This is exactly why gentrification is happening in Medellin , the Paisas are all upset about all the gringos here, and the high prices. We generally tip way and pay too much for things because we think it's so cheap and we're doing them a gracious favour and the locals get used to it. This is exactly what has happened in Poblado over the last 10 years. Go have a beer and a little pub in Bello , the MAX you will pay is 6000 but its usually 4000 pesos. However, in general a beer at any trendy place in central Poblado AKA " Gringolandia" is 12-15000 pesos.. Think and pay as a Colombian would.... When in Rome.....

I'm Canadian, 66 years old and looking to move to Mendoza, Argentina. I'm making about $1800-1900 CDN a month on my Canuck pension and social security, and frankly things are getting a bit weird in Argentina right now, and I'm not sure how far my funny money will go. I used to love America. I moved here from Cuba in 2015 and i do remember being so happy in this country. In 2015 they were still some small studies at 600 per month. But now those same shoe boxes cost like 1600 per month here in Miami. This is insane. And i can’t find a job anywhere. People is so angry, hateful, racist and rude all the time. So many horrible people, and for no reason. I can’t wait to retire and move to Colombia. I can’t live this way. I would shoot myself before being homeless. I don’t hate América. I just hate living this way.

you can live on under 1000 a month in certain areas with certain amenities, but if you want a quality of life that is similar to developed countries youll absolutely want more than that. Personally I spend around 800-1000 a month just on food/drinks and transportation...($15-20 on food/drinks and $8-10 per day on uber will get you there). that doesnt include anything else like rent, insurance, clothes, weekend excursions, tourist stuff, shopping, going out, gym, dance. So while its not possible for most people, some people can do it if you eat at home all the time and don't go out much at all. You can find an apartment for 300-400 a month, sure. its probably not where you want it to be, probably doesnt have ac, probably doesnt have a washer/dryer, probably doesnt have the best security, probably has paper thin walls, but sure it can be done if you want to live that way, but I dont. Ive been coming to the country for about 6 years and that is the reality of it. I understand that many people are forced to live on a small budget like this but I wouldn't want to go to a less developed country and have my quality of life go down. to live comfortably in most cities, 1500-2000 is what most people are going to need, 3000 in major cities means you dont even need to think about purchases unless your rent is a huge part of your budget.

Apartments in USA are expensive in places where you can find gainful employment. People in Medellín making fraction of what people in Chicago or NY make hence rent in medellin is much cheaper. However, if you can work remotely it doesn't matter. Also, take in consideration that unless you have some kind of visa you can't spend more than 6 months a year in colombia. If you have visa and you spend more than 6 months in colombia you are becoming a tax resident which means you will yave to pay colombian income tax. So this colombian living is not that easy. To live well in colombia plan to spend 1k plus your rent. $800 a month is hardly survivable, especially in places other than small pueblos. BTW, food in supermarkets like exito is more expensive than in USA.
Cali has the best hospital in South America in terms of quality according to the 2022 ranking: Fundación Valle del Lili. Clinica Imbanaco is also excellent.

It all sounds good but what happens if and when the American dollar collapses. When the American dollar is no longer the world reserve currency. When the American dollar becomes toilet. Now you're caught in a foreign country with worthless currency. What then?
After paying taxes on your US income, pension, health care, Colombia is NOT a cheap destination for non retirees. Do your research folks. The last place you want to be is in a Colombian jail cell or paying your life savings to settle a fee for tax evasion. The trick is to stay here less than 183 days per year and alternate with another country.
I just got back from Medellín 2 weeks ago, and I can attest everything these gentlemen are saying is true. The sense of peace and clarity my friends and I experienced in that country is unreal...

I go to the Philippines a lot and even lived there.. I just got back in April and then went to Colombia . I used Google translator but I do speak Spanish.. most ppl there don't speak any English in Colombia but at least most people are so polite😊

We think we may love Manizales for retirement. We speak Spanish and have lived in Costa Rica and Nicaragua. It does concern us a bit when we hear about motorcycle robberies, etc…but they say crazy stuff about Nicaragua also, and we feel very safe here. Plan is to go to Guatemala and Mexico next, then fly to Colombia. Oh, and my wife is Nicaraguan and we have been married forever. I would not want to date in the US these days. Wow !
There is still some southern hospitality in the USA but it will fade away over time unfortunately. I had a difficult time when I first lived in central California because there were mostly people who would ignore me if I greeted them. It is the norm there. No matter where you are from it is still rude to not at least acknowledge another human being. I plan to move to either the Philippines or to a Latin American country when I fully retire. Hopefully, the US dollar will survive or get ready to exchange to a more stable currency.
I visited Medellin in 2019. Been living in the Philippines for 9 months. Medellin has better food, infrastructure, and weather. Its also closer to the U.S if i need to get there for a family event. The PI is nice but im likely going to return to Medellin. No disrespect to the PI though. Nice people here.
Great video gentlemen. What was the word that you couldn’t use? Lol. I agree 100% with the point you were making about dating in the U.S. It’s not worth it. I have been to Colombia quite a few times and am planning to move to Medellin for the winter months - and maybe even part of the summer. Like the two of you, I’ve found the people to be genuinely nice - not just polite - but genuinely interested in each other as human beings. An American woman on a video by AK Joel said that Americans think with their heads and are on their phones all the time while Colombians think with their hearts.
Retired people are great for the economy of these places. They don’t have to pay to educate kids which is about a 3rd of or state and local taxes. They don’t drive as much so they don’t create a lot of traffic. The big thing about being there is what is the quality and cost of health care.

Hello Jack. We are a same-sex couple who just moved to Medellín, and so far, everyone is cool and respectful. We are not much into PDA either, but nearly every day we see gay and lesbian couples (Colombians) holding hands and kissing. On a related topic, I do not see evidence of the toxic racism that infects the USA. People here are very kind and pleasant with one another and especially with gringos.

Upper Poblado is absolutely great...Incredible panaromic views of entire Medellin, lush green, gorgeous creeks, safe, clean air, not cold and not hot, quiet and yet only 10 min away from all that hustle and bustle of a city, malls and entertainment which I love to experience once a week..Upper Poblado is not parque lleras..I go all day without running into a single tourist.. Well, it is not for those with $800 a mo budget, true..but you can live very comfortable and in luxury if you have $2k income or SSI

You can’t compare Columbia prices with states unless you retired or Rich my wife was born in Columbia lived there until 6 years old her parents come here to work built house in cali and live there but collected social security from here without that it’s tough average Columbian stragglers it only if you retired but it’s also the safety issue

Always makes me happy to see people living their best lives. Have been hearing about Medellin for a long time. Most people around the world know that place is incredible but I feel it is still under the radar for most Americans.
So why Columbia? There are others countries in the south America such as Peru, Brazil that are way better and nicer than coumbia. And also life is very cheap and affordable.

How long can you stay in Colombia without having to get a Visa or do you just renew? I also have been living in the Philippines for a few years. One can live here on almost any budget and it is safe but I do want to check out Colombia at some point. Being able to speak English is a big plus but it's quite far from the US.

Yes $2,000 a month we are BALLERS over seas but that same money in the USA and we are struggling. What part of the Philippines are you in?

If you have visa and you spend more than 6 months in colombia you are becoming a tax resident which means you will yave to pay colombian income tax. So this colombian living is not that easy. To live well in colombia plan to spend 1k plus your rent. $800 a month is hardly survivable, especially in places other than small pueblos. BTW, food in supermarkets like exito is more expensive than in USA.

The last place you want to be is in a Colombian jail cell or paying your life savings to settle a fee for tax evasion. The trick is to stay here less than 183 days per year and alternate with another country.

We think we may love Manizales for retirement. We speak Spanish and have lived in Costa Rica and Nicaragua.
It does concern us a bit when we hear about motorcycle robberies, etc…but they say crazy stuff about Nicaragua also, and we feel very safe here.
Plan is to go to Guatemala and Mexico next, then fly to Colombia.

There is still some southern hospitality in the USA but it will fade away over time unfortunately. I had a difficult time when I first lived in central California because there were mostly people who would ignore me if I greeted them. It is the norm there. No matter where you are from it is still rude to not at least acknowledge another human being. I plan to move to either the Philippines or to a Latin American country when I fully retire. Hopefully, the US dollar will survive or get ready to exchange to a more stable currency.

I visited Medellin in 2019. Been living in the Philippines for 9 months. Medellin has better food, infrastructure, and weather. Its also closer to the U.S if i need to get there for a family event. The PI is nice but im likely going to return to Medellin. No disrespect to the PI though. Nice people here.

I have been to Colombia quite a few times and am planning to move to Medellin for the winter months - and maybe even part of the summer. Like the two of you, I’ve found the people to be genuinely nice - not just polite - but genuinely interested in each other as human beings. An American woman on a video by AK Joel said that Americans think with their heads and are on their phones all the time while Colombians think with their hearts.
Retired people are great for the economy of these places. They don’t have to pay to educate kids which is about a 3rd of or state and local taxes. They don’t drive as much so they don’t create a lot of traffic. The big thing about being there is what is the quality and cost of health care.

We are not much into PDA either, but nearly every day we see gay and lesbian couples (Colombians) holding hands and kissing. On a related topic, I do not see evidence of the toxic racism that infects the USA. People here are very kind and pleasant with one another and especially with gringos.

Upper Poblado is absolutely great...Incredible panaromic views of entire Medellin, lush green, gorgeous creeks, safe, clean air, not cold and not hot, quiet and yet only 10 min away from all that hustle and bustle of a city, malls and entertainment which I love to experience once a week..Upper Poblado is not parque lleras..I go all day without running into a single tourist.. Well, it is not for those with $800 a mo budget, true..but you can live very comfortable and in luxury if you have $2k income or SSI

So why Columbia? There are others countries in the south America such as Peru, Brazil that are way better and nicer than coumbia. And also life is very cheap and affordable.

How long can you stay in Colombia without having to get a Visa or do you just renew? I also have been living in the Philippines for a few years. One can live here on almost any budget and it is safe but I do want to check out Colombia at some point. Being able to speak English is a big plus but it's quite far from the US.
