I'm here on a Sunday morning, on THE PATH... Cleaning the kitchen, taking out the trash, getting ready to HIT THE GYM... Listening to the end of episode 170 and Echo's reccomendations to staying or getting on THE PATH... And I realized, and I may have missed it, but I don't think I've heard you sum up or define THE PATH. I think all the Troopers would like to hear you sum it up. Plus I think Echo could use it for some sweet new MERCH.
Been fearing the leadership position for a very long time and now I have been voluntold to go man a project to run while my foreman finishes another, and the fear of failure is hard to over come, I’m frustrated with the little failures that I’ve already done, and now after I search through his podcast, I’ve found this so helpful to except the challenge, embrace the suck, learn from mistakes, and become a leader my company wants me to be. Thanks for the the lesson!
Thanks for having answered my question at 1:01:28. Of course I'm not interested in the couch scenario but about how to assess this potential eventuality in more complex situations like at work etc.. Thanks again!
You’re not alone Echo, i work nights, so I sleep during the day. I woke up after 3 hours of sleep today and had to choose, use the restroom or stay in bed. I used the restroom and then couldn’t fall back asleep. WRONG CHOICE
I am applying some of these principles to my business. I have not read extreme ownership yet but I’m finding that the lessons I’m learning from the podcast are invaluable. Incredible work you’re doing. I can’t wait to get deeper and more engaged! Thank you thank you thank you I can’t wait to take it to the next level. Get some!
true, but is for easy-to-see reasons, compared to joe rogan, he doesnt invite celebrities or well known persons(except for peterson and 2 others guys, maybe) and he talks about war, not about drugs(joe dmt rogan),mass-media scandals, celebrities(what they did or said).I forgot about the clickbait titles, he doesnt use them.
Ratuga Kaboom I understand. But even if the podcast does not exactly relate to the average person, I find it unfortunate that people in the military, CEOs, managers, bosses, parents, and people in a rut don’t listen to this material. I think if this podcast was just a bit more nation wide, or even word wide, a bigger percentage of people would live better lives and treat people better
Chase that feeling. Do something great for your kid, every day. Even tiny little things, like teaching him how to fix a toy or how to draw a dog. Make a mission to teach him or develop him in some way everyday. Both of your lives will improve immensely. God bless.
The question about getting up to use the restroom describes how my brain works... I honestly think it's a lack of confidence and overthinking. The older I get the more I think about it like Jocko described: Just do it or don't.
1:15:47 could be a really great snippet from this podcast, especially the part when Jocko said that old people who dont execute become angry.Echo, get after it
When I wake up and I "kinda" have to go to the bathroom I don't go then so that I can get as much help as I can waking up early so I can CRUSH THE DAY.
Jocko risk vs. Echo risk: Jocko, "Do I risk going down this road with hidden IED's?" Echo, "Do I risk reaching for a light I may have to get up to reach?"
... there's something funny about listening to (with some watching) a 2 hour youtube video on a channel about discipline and leadership... talking about how youtube is a problem for eating time. :)
It can be easy to conceptualize ideas and not put them into action. You can watch a thousand 3 hour videos about discipline and all the positive things you can be doing with your life but that won't guarantee you anything.
If you're gonna waste time, might as well waste time doing something that places demands on you to recognize yourself and the things around you and move forward
So next question, for Jocko. I have a lot of good ideas but I want to know how to be a person who executes those ideas. Do you have any tips? 15:55 [zoom in on cue. Motivational speech on cue][Motivational music missing] Oh yeah... So you have some good idea's do ya? [awesome]
1:07:05 I'm calling it right now.... in a few weeks Jocko will tell us how he finally found himself in that situation hahaha Gotta be honest...I hate it when I'm falling asleep and have that Echo-Conundrum situation :D
Don't add value where value is not needed. Great snippet there. I see this a lot where high level analytical thinkers become entangled in details and attempt to add value by "sharing" how much they know about one small detail. Or showcasing how eloquent their powerpoint flow is. Rather than the problem itself. The value isn't how pretty your presentation is, but the effort in taking action to move towards a solution.
Weighing on this "going to the bathroom" This is an issue of decentralized command. If my kidneys call for a fire mission, FDC takes action. "The sage eats when he is hungry. When he is tired he sleeps, when he must move his bowels, he does. This is the secret of non-action." -Lao Tzu
Doesn't matter who's fault it is. It already happened so placing blame is kinda pointless. Collectively the team didn't accomplish the goal. So collectively the team takes action to accomplish the goal. That being said. There are very very few true team mentalities out there.
It is hard to see the reality sometimes...Personally, I can draw the line, but many people, maybe even most people, can't. They want to KNOW, who's fault was it? To them, "It can't be everyone's fault, it was someone's fault and I gotta know who is at fault." They want to get after THE TRUTH. It's even harder to explain to those people.
Dude, on the fleet side of things, commands will mast your ass for literally anything. Saw a dude go up for getting jumped off base and freaking out in a hospital when this dude woke up with no recollection of how he got there.
