This was the first round in the first official Age of Wonders 3 tournament. At the time only the base game had been released, so this is with no DLC. I had two other games booked - one I got beat at, and the other my opponent dropped out. Unfortunately I was eliminated at that point, but this was the more entertaining of my games!
Throughout the game you insist on wearing each individual enemy unit down - Instead I suggest you pick off the weak ones as they can still damage you just as well as the fully healthy units. The less shots and attack the opponent has, the better it is for you. Walls has the advantage of bottlenecking the opponent, pick off the wall-damaging units and air when being sieged, then wait for the attacker to breach the wall - You will be ready for him when he does!
NilsC Yes, this is something I've since learned the hard way: concentrate on completely removing units. The less you have to fight, the better the chance you stand. Ah well, I guess you only learn through losing!
Another thing I noticed aswell, is that the units often had to suffer ranged penalties because they are too far away, essentially wasting damage that could have been done! Its something I only recently discovered myself :) It usually cuts you're damage down to half, wich is massive!
NilsC I genuinely didn't realise this! Thanks so much for bringing it to my attention - it'll probably totally change the way I approach situations from now on!
GG! Next time just make sure you go up a tier or two, when producing units, try not to lose random stacks on the map and you'll have it. It was pretty shitty when you lost 4 of your backstabbing stack. Oh well, as long as you enjoyed the game. I sure did! GL HF
Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed! Yeah, one of my biggest issues is pumping out too many low tier units and focusing on exploration as opposed to open combat. Admittedly, if I had managed to pull my back stab off, it could have been a very different story...
I think since you were archdruid, you could have relied a little bit more on summons at the beginning and used the time and gold for an extra building or two. But i'm pretty new to AoW III so i might be horribly wrong:)
dimi192 I think that's pretty solid strategy, and is roughly what I tend to do these days: rush a few vital buildings, then continuously summon as I build my city up. I normally run out of mana pretty fast, but it's worth it to get a really good grasp on your surroundings and resources before anyone else can.
dimi192 I've uploaded a couple of local head to head fights here, but they're currently unedited and, in hindsight, a bit lopsided. I don't play a whole lot of Age of Wonders online (I still only play Shadow Magic by email!), but if you're interested in playing a round sometime I'd be more than happy!
I'd recommend bringing a box of them back, video quality like this was pretty widespread at the time, and whatever remaining kit you have after you could probably flip for a bit of extra coin. Bring a few Blue Yeti's or something back too if you want - I don't think their popularity was as wide spread for a few years after so it'd have helped a lot of folk!
Dude if you get a kill with Melee you get more experience. So, rather than shooting from distance with a ranged unit go for melee if you are sure that you can kill it and be safe afterwards.
+Castle Black Aye, back then I was too much into building defenses which led to a bad habit of turtling, rather than rushing an offensive and getting the upper hand. A hard lesson learned well I guess
I shudder to think what setup I had back then - fairly sure I recorded this when I lived with my parents, it'll have just been whatever mic I could afford at the time. I doubt I had a pop shield back then, which is why the hard P/T's will be so pronounced. I won't have even done any basic mixing on the take either, so this is just raw audio.
I don't need to do that due to already owning the game, as evidenced by the video, so I'll give it a miss thanks. Either way it doesn't seem to be an official Triumph endorsed distribution?
Not sure what you thought was going to happen after the failed sneak around back attack fail due to creep ambush, Surely you knew at that point there was no way in %^ll you could win, especially after you lost you other city know he had more then 2 cities already. It just made for a long boring vid' from that point on. There was no way you could win from that point on. I was enjoying this till then and found myself forced to watch on for countless minutes more watch some of the most boring game play I had ever saw. Would been better to go down fighting then become a troll I think..Sorry for being so frank. I felt as if you where trying for some kind of ,miracle to wail in. Thanks for the vid. Hope to see more gameplay and things learned from this failed attempt
steve honaker It's a while since this game actually happened, but I believe I was banking on two things: I didn't know what the full force of my enemy's army looked like by this point, so was willing to take a gamble that maybe he wasn't as strong as he made it out to look, and that there may be another opportunity of chance to grasp. In retrospect it's easy to see that neither was going to happen - and as it was a tournament game I was very reluctant to just throw the towel in, hence holding on a bit more, despite how futile it was. I went back and played a fair bit of the original AoW via PBEM after this, which really opened my eyes to how fast you have to strike to gain the upper hand. I didn't upload the second tournament game for the very reason that it was a trainwreck from start to finish.

thx for sharing this experience! I really enjoyed this video and will check out your other ones. greetings from Germany
Thanks Herman, glad you enjoyed it. Hope you get off the island soon!
Good game - shame the stealth backstabbing plan didn't work out as planned!
AnnihilistUK Backstabbers got backstabbed.

Awesome video!
LMAO!!! This video was great. I came here for a bit of knowledge and learned that it is devastating for the ego to get shit on. Keep it up bro!
To be fair as far as knowledge goes, that's a good one to learn!
HAHA too true!
Let me say I strongly approve of Dr. Killinger's name.
I'm not gonna lie, I'm kinda glad I lost. If I won against someone called Dr. Killinger I'd kinda feel a bit cheated.

I would be happy to see more of your multiplayer games here if you plan on uploading them.
GL with the new strat:)

I want to build a time machine and go back in time to give you a pop filter. Dear GOD the popping

@@Bishmanrock lol I could probably afford a few snowballs man, but lol, thanks for being a good sport about it. I know this is an old video
good run
Should upload the next one!
+TheFateUK Done!
Well, nice that you put your defeat up - don't think I would've done it ;)
You can't win them all I guess, so may as well learn from the ones you don't!
Good game!
Ah yes, Dr Killinger living up to his name.
+TheWrittenPunishment Better than being killed by Dr Hugginger
nice vid :) good entertainment
Cheers mate!
nice vid. you do speak a bit to fast tho. Slow a bit down.
Thanks for watching! I'll make sure not to talk 100mph in future :)
pop shield?
xbe1971 Probably didn't own one back then at a guess.

Oh wow, I honestly didn't know this, thanks for the tip!
Is it like Asian dynasties 3
gg
You never optimize your damage output, so much cringe watching this.
+Castle Black Aye, back then I was too much into building defenses which led to a bad habit of turtling, rather than rushing an offensive and getting the upper hand. A hard lesson learned well I guess
wow. your mic is overreacting at "P" and "T" ... its perfect for beatboxing.

@@Bishmanrock =) we all had that once before, right?
@@o8livion Indeed, all got to start learning somewhere!
You can download the game from here sellfy.com/p/OEmR
+vangjush gjinko Never heard of that site before, seems too good a discount to be true
Download and try.The games are perfectly working

Gog distibution.
Why would GOG sell through a website other than their own? It doesn't make a shred of sense. It makes no mention of that in their about page either.
Next time go for zerg rush

Yeah and 2 expansions later theres just more to learn. Glad there still going on this game
steve honaker Me too. Here's hoping we manage to get a few more expansions or additions, would love to see some of the old races return.
"i never play the arch druid but im going to play it in this tournament" that is why you lost lol and many other reasons
Okay!
Human arch druid? lmao.
