I’ve recently found your channel and I’m honestly so intrigued with your videos. I’ve watched pretty much everyone of your lord and order videos because they’re just so well done and actually keep me interested the whole time. The only reason im writing this comment is because I know it helps with how UA-cam works and I deadset want to help you just because what you’re doing is actually good stuff. Keep it up man, I can’t wait for the next video
Amnesia the dark descent was a masterpiece in my opinion. The environments in this game are surreal. The feeling of emptiness, with the creaking of the castle with windy sounds just made this game scary as all hell to play. Everything was done beautifully.
The parallels between the harvesting of vitae from traumatized persons and the morphagenic engine in outlast being particularly effective on patients who had been subjected to extreme rauma and cruelty is interesting
Amnesia was the bomb at that time. Completed it maybe 7 times? Not that it took much time, but gathering all the details - fantastic. I love any story that has such depth that you, as a viewer/participant, can try to study the subject separately to learn even more of inter-connections. Add-on Justine was fantastic, too. All around. SOMA was their second masterpiece, if you will. Story, atmosphere, characters, depth, improved graphics. Fantastic game for its genre, same as Amnesia.
Amnesia Justine is my favorite installment of the game. The story, the monsters, the sheer tragedy of it all along with the grim, hopeless ending is just beautiful. Great game, really
SOMA is one of the only pieces of media to genuinely effect me for days after finishing it. That game has some heavy themes and they absolutely nailed it, I recommend it all the time
I thought the Gatherers was former victims and servers of Alexander, that no longer could produce vitae, so he just left them to roam the castle. They roamed the woods at night, gathering animals for Alexander to extract vitae from. But Alexander later realized he needed more potent vitae, and humans were the best and only option. Villagers from nearby spotted a few of these creatures, and started to call them Gatherers. Atleast, this is how I recall it. Never the less - Great video. Keep it up!
I just gotta say, amnesia is the best horror game I've ever played. The story, the mansion, and the atmosphere of the game is on a total different level than other games solely relying on cheap jumpscares. I was jumpscared so badly in the beginning of the game (when you explore a room and a gatherer breaks through the door) I got so scared that my friend had to take over the keyboard and hide Daniel since I just screamed and covered my face 😂
Fun fact: Heinrich Cornelius Agrippa was a real person who lived several centuries before the events of the game and, according to a note in a book written by his pupil, Johann Weyer (also a real person referenced in the game) he passed away in Grenoble in 1535, and this fact is even referenced in the "local folklore" note in the game. EDIT: Okay you do mention that, I'm glad you did!
I'd love a video on Machine for Pigs. I remember playing it and really enjoying the story but I didn't quite understand all of the back lore or if it even tied into the other Amnesia games.
I love this game so much I watch all the videos I can find and it's the first time the lore and plot are explained so clearly, and with the corresponding quotes + screencaptures from the game too! Your dedication and attention for the details are simply awe-inspiring. What an amazing video, thank you very much for all your hard work!
I really love the intro of this game. The idea of you waking up without having any idea who you are or what happened, then reading a letter written by yourself saying that you did it yourself. I hope they will adapt this into a live action film.
I'm really glad you made this video. The only reason I know about Amnesia at all was because people had modded it beyond recognition and those mods eventually found their way to PewDiePie and Markiplier. In other words, so much nostalgia for all the wrong reasons. I hope the true horror of this game can be remembered properly now.
@@giannilyanicks1718 the story is but I hate horror games, I like horror but I don’t enjoy the whole game centered around horror I just wanna chill when I play no be stressed so I just watch this video
Daniel didn't grow more sadistic. Alexander was lying about who his prisoners were, it's clear in the notes Daniel writes that he believes they're criminals. It's the realization that he was torturing innocent people that leads him to drink the amnesia potion.
Amnesia together with Outlast really popularized 1st person horror games with gameplay a lot simpler than survival horror games like Resident Evil and a focus mainly on the atmosphere and story rather than on gameplay. These games also usually didn't have combat and you could only run or hide. The main gameplay was doing objectives (Outlast) or also completing puzzles (Amnesia). These are games like Soma, Layers of Fear, Visage, Until Dawn, Alien Isolation (that one has some combat), Evil Within (similar to RE but with more horror) and many more indie ones.
It’s always confused me that Daniel took the amnesia potion only to proceed all the way to the inner sanctum and learning and remembering all that had happened. It seemed pointless imo to do it rather than doing it only after defeating Alexander (and surviving). I just can’t find the reasoning.
He was so traumatised and consumed by his foul deeds that he found himself unable to act and do the right thing. Thus drinking the amnesia mixture. Thats atleast how i see it
Remember in the note he writes for when he wakes back up, he just reminds himself to kill Alexander in the inner sanctum, nothing about why. He didn’t want himself to know right away that he tortured and killed a bunch of innocent people for his own “safety”, and end up in the same position he was before he drank the amnesia mixture. Don’t know why he didn’t atleast stay in the underground part of the castle before drinking it.
Looking back at this game after Rebirth came out makes Alexander's attempt to go home even sadder. If he does manage to get home he'd find it in ruin and everyone he knew likely dead including his lover, the very person he tried so hard to get back too.
I stumbled across this channel like three days ago and I have to say I’m in love. I have two children so when I play these games I inevitably wind up missing huge chunks of detail and plot dealing with them. These videos help rectify that.
Just finished the game. What a masterpiece that managed to get one authentic scream out of me and had me trembling after every chase. The sound design, tension, and story were so captivating. However, my only gripe were some bugs. It definitely wasn’t fun to burn through supplies because Daniel would get so afraid he decided to hide underneath the map and killed me three times as a result but that’s just an annoyance. Beautiful game, 9.5/10 would recommend to anyone who, like Daniel and I, can muster up our courage to descend into that unmatched darkness
As always great work. Even playing through a game can miss some details and sometimes you don't see the big picture at the end. Hopefully the other parts will come out soon too.
around 7:30 you seem to indicate there are separate guardians for each orb, which has no basis in any of the lore from any of the games in the series. there is one guardian that pursues any unworthy holder of each of the orbs.
I got caught by your Outlast video, and I was super engaged with your attention to detail and ability to coherently explain the stories of the games and the comics. When I found out you've done videos on DOZENS of other horror games, I knew you'd gained another subscriber in me. Good stuff, man, keep it up!
I have such fond memories of this game. It was the first horror game I ever played and also one of the first videos I ever watched on UA-cam was a Let's Play of the game back when it first released. Absolutely loved how atmospheric it was, and there were few games that could match it, even now. There were even some great custom stories like "The Great Work" that were as long, if not longer than the game itself. I always tell people to try "Amnesia: The Dark Descent" if they are ever looking for a horror/puzzle game to try.
I really like those videos, im not a horror fan myself, so i dont play those type of games, but sometimes story / lore is pretty interesting so its nice way to get to know this without forcing itself into playing.
I love this channel and series so much. It covers games I can't play but always wanted to know the stories of. Or games I have played and didn't understand the stories of. Or learning something new about a game I've played and story I've understood. It's beautifully done, and I can't wait for the next one 💜

I just beat the game for the first time. I put it off after getting too freaked out early on and it took me over a year and a half to actually try again and it was so worth it.

• Daniel has Amnesia • Daniel made himself this way • Daniel reasons he is in this situation because he touched an orb which released a Shadow Guardian
In Amnesia they describe Alexander's world as this alien incomprehensible place with impossible geometry, that he is some kind of immortal being from another dimension. Alexander has this great mind and understanding that is far above our times, being able to create machines that would not be possible to be made in that time period. Then in the shitty sequel we go to his home world and it's this backwards desert where people use stone tools. Turns out Alexander wanted to go back to his home world and sit in a damp dark cave looking for matches.
