Those questioning the ones "standing around" must not understand firefighting. Not everyone works at the same time. They go in shifts so the ones that were fighting fire can rehab while fresh firefighters take their place. If everyone was working at the same time then everyone would have to rehab at the same time.

Because those fires have no immediate life hazard or danger of spreading to anything. Focus on the big picture and once you have the fire contained then you can focus on the little things.

      @@illiilliilliill I did too.
Lots of well dressed observers. Has nothing to do with shifts or jobs, they didn't rotate the guys in the buckets. Just lots of guys standing around. Plenty enough to grab a section of hose and tap into that Tower Ladder for a bit of water to deal with the cars and pallets on fire. The Jeep on fire was responsible for the bulk of the black smoke. Knock that out so your guys aren't sucking in all those carcinogens.

Worst fire I ever fought was a pallet yard. Extremely hot and the construction of the pallets allows for a lot of oxygen into the fire. Great video, brings back great memories!

For the firefighters life's are saved.
Because that close with that intense power firemen would not stand a chance.

A pallet yard not too far from I worked at the time (pallet fires are insanely intense. And a cardboard manufacturing company. With that last one, me and my cousin were drinking beer on his patio about 3 miles down wind from that fire, and we had still hot embers floating down on us.

Nopez, this is why firefighters sometimes have more hoses on the surroundings than on the fire. Most likely the reason why the cars and the utility poles went up is heat exposure. Especially with this kind of fire the heat is insane and as dangerous as the fire itself. The Evo that went up is for some other reason. Looks like somebody got lucky and unlucky at the same time.

Folks may interested to know that not every hydrant produces the same amount of water (gallons per minute). They are color coded based on their output. Even when there's hydrants there are still potential limitations, especially when they're using the 500 gal/minute nozzels on those sticks and ladders. They gotta hook up to many hydrants.

As a retired police officer, I was very used to the "Internet cops" giving their opinions on things they knew nothing about. It wasn't until I joined my towns volunteer fire department, that I realized there are plenty of "internet firefighters" out there also. Bunch of people who have never done a thing of consequence in their lives, but become experts after watching some videos. Quite pathetic actually.

@@derklavierspieler7491 "I come from a family of law enforcement." Congratulations. But, YOU were never law enforcement, so YOU have no idea what it's like, therefore YOUR opinion on law enforcement, (much like the overwhelming majority of internet commenters), is irrelevant. You don't know what you're talking about, and shouldn't be taken seriously. You're the equivalent of a guy whose dad served in a war, and then goes on to tell others how the war SHOULD have been fought.

I went from Auxiliary Fire Captain to the Navy and later on to become a New York City Housing AUTHORITY Police Detective and attained the rank of Deputy Inspector. My best experience was being an Auxiliary Fire Captain.

I believe I heard something about this is in the area of Hunts Point??
I delivered a load of produce to Hunts Point Produce Market once in the mid 80s. After I left, I told the broker I was using to load my truck if he ever even mentioned Hunts Point, New York City, or the GW bridge in my presence again, I was going to whip him, crate him and ship him via UPS to the location!!

They had a helluva lot of hoses on that. It was a block wide fire, I was just on one corner at the very beginning.
