Those questioning the ones "standing around" must not understand firefighting. Not everyone works at the same time. They go in shifts so the ones that were fighting fire can rehab while fresh firefighters take their place. If everyone was working at the same time then everyone would have to rehab at the same time.
Because those fires have no immediate life hazard or danger of spreading to anything. Focus on the big picture and once you have the fire contained then you can focus on the little things.

do they worry about contamination from fuel? I know they got a lot going on and stuff but it makes me curious and I find it interesting they are not worried about the utility poles that much.
I’m amazed that FDNY crews don’t wear SCBA’s when extinguishing car fires. Smoke is extremely toxic from the plastics tires and car battery. Is it a macho thing?
Yes, so much was working against them. The heat, the size of the conflagration, the vehicle street clutter bursting into flames, you have to feel sympathy for the mess that the firefighters had to face.
I've only witnessed 3 intense fires in my life. A tire fire that burned for almost 4 days just down the from where I grew up. A pallet yard not too far from I worked at the time (pallet fires are insanely intense. And a cardboard manufacturing company. With that last one, me and my cousin were drinking beer on his patio about 3 miles down wind from that fire, and we had still hot embers floating down on us.
Which works better a pumper truck and tower truck, or a tower that can pump itself? It sounds like a lot of time was spent matching towers and pumps. Gawd whatta mees and whatta job. Got it done.
Nopez, this is why firefighters sometimes have more hoses on the surroundings than on the fire. Most likely the reason why the cars and the utility poles went up is heat exposure. Especially with this kind of fire the heat is insane and as dangerous as the fire itself. The Evo that went up is for some other reason. Looks like somebody got lucky and unlucky at the same time.
Can anyone tell me what kind of truck that is at the very beginning as the camera is walking toward the fire? It's on the right and the size of a tractor trailer. What does it contain/supply?
I know it’s two years late but that’s a heavy rescue. They carry special equipment for more special ops type calls. lots of departments have them and use em at calls like bad mvcs where there’s entrapments, large fires, etc
