I fucken hate that so much! Ive seen people pull out their phone and just start filming a person trapped inside a burning car.... Instead of helping. Some drunk guy set the carport on fire in my mom's complex, and one of my neighbors ran out to move his truck. He said the heat was intense and it was starting to melt his bumper. My mom's car got torched along with a bunch of belongings, some with sentimental value. There were cars parked about 50 ft away that melted. The guy that set it only got a few months in jail because he came forward and admitted he did it.
sword115 I can’t tell if you’re being sarcastic or serious. But technically you are correct, they are cutting ventilation holes in the roof because the fire, heat, and gases are trapped in the attic. Those holes improve conditions so inside crews can work to extinguish the fire.
@Erich Weiler I think it was pretty much a generic term for rotary type saws. We had Partner, and later Stihl but we called the all K-12. Cheers from Texas. 29 years service, retired.

There are times when a second hole may be necessary. If you have good flames and high volume and velocity of gases, that single 4x4 hole may not be enough to improve conditions inside.

It’s nice to see a firefighter video of firefighters actually putting out the fire, I’ve seen plenty of videos of when the firefighters stand around and just let it burn to the ground
Yes, I am a First Responder here in NZ. It only takes a short few seconds to put on your PPE. God gave you 2 eyes, and 2 ears. If you're department hasn't trained you in the use of PPE, then I wouldn't work for them. Eyes and ears are irreplaceable, and if you retire deaf and blind, coz you think its pussy to protect those God given faculties, then all the best. You take time to put on your bunker gear, your helmet, your BA. Take a few more seconds to protect your eyes and ears. You might curse me today, but you will thank me tomorrow.
A line on the roof is for personnel protection. Easy enough to hit anything on that roof from the ground. Just another tripping hazard on the roof. Alot of filks on the roof but they were all working. Great job!
0:28 The homeowner can thank that guy in the blue outfit for helping to save his truck. He was the only one calm enough and with enough sense to figure out how to open that sliding gate before he got back to recording the fire. Good job man!
Excellent videography. Good framing and editing. Interesting attack in such a confined space. Definitely well practiced crews. (interesting habits...) Definitely gotta agree with Ed Leffler; that's a helluva vertical vent.
Richard Fernandez it’s an early 20th century bungalow, those are rafter tails that you can see under the eave line. They are conventionally framed homes, not lightweight. Another telltale sign of a conventional roof is the skip sheathing that you can see when they pull back the roofing of their vent hole. If this was a lightweight roof, it would be sheathed with OSB or plywood. Skip sheathing (boards laid across the rafters with gaps in between) is usually 1-by material and holds up better under fire conditions than plywood or OSB. This is a pretty strong roof to operate on.
@@richardfernandez8698 So if as a Batt Chief or a District Chief, if I run the incident from my vehicle where my accountability board, multiple radios and tactical worksheets are located, I will end up with too many people on the roof? Ah, can you clarify that?
The way Angelinos put bars on everything, you would think they had the Crown Jewels inside. Thankfully, the dogs were not in immediate danger, because the time it took to saw that door open could have been critical.

Nice catch by you and great job by LBFD. Not alot of Depts would have allowed that home owner back into the property to get the vehicle out even though it would and did in this case, benefit the FD
Yeah, you have to use some judgment on those kinds of things. I'm not a *big* fan of having civilians running around near an active fire, but in that case, getting that truck out of the way was a win-win as you say.
Kudos to the neighbors actually doing something rather than standing around with their phones like many do today.

No time for small talk when you're on a fire, information has to be conveyed quickly
@@NeFjuS Obviously, that's why he praised it
While the other guy tries to hear what he's saying and also not lose his hearing while the other truck just lays on the horn non-stop
That's how they signaled the hydrant to open the gate. The lay was around the corner and not in line of sight.
Finally! A homeowner smart enough to move their car away from the fire!
Yeah but then he wanted to run through the garage with the roof on fire so he loses those brownie points
Most of the time
people dont move their cars cause the keys are, u know, inside the burning house!

Andrew Coffey it’s called venting
@@SV-pp9ub I'm aware. When it comes to venting you cut your basic hole and get down. You don't keep cutting until half the roof is off
