Chevrolet/GM Racing 2016/2017/2018 IMSA Weathertech Sports Car Championship Winners (3 in a row). 13 championships in 20 years. Won almost half of their Le Mans starts in 20 years. 12 endurance championships in 20 years. 60 of their 103 race wins are 1-2 finishes. Yeah, I would say they are the best.
@@gseric4721 yeah I know what you mean...in fact I'm from miami fl where every mustang owner goes out and try to race every vette they find on the road they think they own the streets ... I had a c5 now I have a c6 and damn bro forget the fiberglass ....it is a magnet for every stupid mustang owner
Corvette never did get full factory support for its racing. Now in the modern era Corvette has been Brilliant in the ALMS. Corvette needs to keep its support from GM and like Jason Harris says on here ...Chevy needs to put more time and money into Corvette as a racing brand globally and the Corvette name will be even stronger!!!
Corvette is definitely the greatest racing brand from the US. Ford just hasn't done high level racing consistently enough. And Dodge really isn't even worth mentioning.
RIP Dale, that was one of his last races. So much has changed for NASCAR since we lost Dale, now that Jr has left I don't even watch NASCAR. Definitely looking forward to the new C8.R this coming January in Daytona!
I think the Corvette deserves to carry the greatest racing brand in America because of its extensive and consistent history in road racing. Granted, it's not very tasteful in its execution, but I don't think any other car really carries as much history as the Corvette. One vintage Corvette that I think is very underrated but critical to the lineage is the L88.
About the Earnhardts in the #3 at Daytona. Your're right, they did not win, though they finished second in class. The other Corvette, the #2 car, won the race. The Earnhardt 'vette was competitive, especially with Sr. driving in the rain. Unfortunately, Jr's less prudent driving style resulted in a couple of spins and broken half shafts. If not for the repair time, they could have contended for the class win. The Callaway Corvettes that ran at Le Mans also deserve a mention.
I agree with what youve said. As a Mustang owner and Ford lover, I still respect Chevy even though theyve had good and bad eras, but of course who hasn't?
Corvette is a factory team of course they should be dominating the alms (or at least seriously contending for the championship) this is no surprise. It's factory vs customer/privateer teams for the most part
The corvette is afforded to most people and it can beat the Lamborghini in a race. The Lamborghini can only be affordable to the 1% of people on the earth and was beaten by the corvette 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
the corvette challenge series was started because the scca banned the corvette from its showroom stock gt class when corvettes went undefeated for two straight seasons
Greatest racing brand in America would have to be, in my opinion, Ford/Shelby. European GT Championships....12 hours of Sebring victories....24 Hours of Daytona/LeMans victories....Nürburgring victory, Monza victory... this list goes on. It put the US on the map of endurance racing and they kicked ass while doing it...different times of course..but still...what they accomplished in 10 years was absolutely amazing.
I agree Corvette is the best American racing brand but I would rate Ford as a close second. The Corvette has such a vast racing pedigree just like Porsche, Jaguar, Ferrari, etc. Nice video showing the Corvette Racing Team.
The C1 Cunningham Corvettes! White and Blue. Racing Sebring and Le Mans. And as viewer Chris Draper reminded me on FaceBook, in 1960 the 1st Corvette Le Mans win. Good catch. Pissed at myself, because I had that in my notes and forgot to pull the Cunnigham image, getting all caught up in the Zora SS pics for C1 era.
The Corvette is definitely the top American racing name, as there is no other US car or brand (that you can actually buy) that competes internationally.
I agree completely with what he is saying, love your videos and don't think you deserve the "hate" you get from people. But seeing as people are out to get offended to easily nowadays, that last comment (which I thought was funny and harmless) might offend some people who are just to uptight and can't take a joke.. and I don't want to see you get upset because of that. Ignore the hate, follow the constructive criticism, and keep it up Leo, always look forward to your videos.
The main thing that was skipped over here was the C6. It only became GT2/GTE in mid 2009. Before that, it was the old GT1 car with the 7.0L V8. The GTE then took over in 2009 after Le Mans with a 6.2L V8 in 2009 then down to a 5.5L V8 since then. The GT1 car has a lot of wins, and the GTE car is slowly but surely trying to catch up in terms of a win record. Either way, I feel (as a Brit) that Corvette Racing is perhaps one of the most dedicated and professional Le Mans teams to date.
The SRT Viper should be doing some serious work, the people from SRT seems pretty confident about that. But with the C7R coming out it will be some exciting racing.
Before even watching this video im gonna say yes. They are successful in alms and le mans. The dp car is fast and they have been racing a long time. They were the only people to even make a dp body.
This has nothing to do with corvette but as someone who lives in Australia I'd like it if you guys could touch base with a bit of V8 supercars like the 50th anniversary of the Bathurst 1000 and Mercedes joining the series next year under the new rules
As a European i'd say it's a tie between Corvette and Ford, particularly if you include Shelby cars alongside regular Fords. Aside from with the Viper it's a pity Chrysler/Dodge hasn't made more of an impact on racing, as long as i've paying attention anyway.
I dont know if you could say the best team. They are quite good don't get me wrong, but when I started watching ALMS the viper was doing quite well. I would have to say Corvette racing is the most iconic, dedicated, and consistent team out of the U.S.
I love the Viper, I really do, but the Viper has never overshadowed as the Corvette has and is. Not just length of history, but intensity. The Viper is not there yet.
Hey Leo, you always seem to dress well but just a rule of thumb: you should never use a half-windsor knot with a button-down collar. Also, due to your size you might want to consider wearing a grey tie as it will contrast the suit making you appear taller. Keep up the good work you lilliputian madman!
I mostly respect Ford because of their business strategies and involvement with foreign markets. These days they seem to be doing great in Europe. And the years you posted were the ones i was thinking of too. Things started to decline after the gas crisis all the way up to around 03/04 but 05 was a magical year for most manufacturers. Seemed like thats when everyone woke up haha
i Like Vettes as well but i think your right about Ford, they have been racing forever and in pretty much every racing series you can name. I would have to say Ford is the greatest racing brand to come out of America for sure.
I'm a huge Corvette fan. I can tell you horsepower and displacement values for nearly every model year. It's certainly America's greatest sports car. I don't think it's America's greatest racing brand though. Ford has been in all the sports car racing that Corvette has, but it's also been in touring car, rally racing, F1, NASCAR etc. That being said, it's hard for one model to compete with the brand image of an entire company.
I think I heard somewhere that the Viper won more races in the 90's and early 2000's then any American other car (I could be wrong, I'm not an expert). It may not usurp the 'Vette and all its accomplishments, but I think its definitely going to give Chevy headaches as time goes by.
Not really, considering that the only team that races a GT is Matech. Matech doesn't even use the GT motor, adding on to the fact it isn't factory backed.
Ford.. but you have to share the load. GT-40 Lemans. and the Ford rally cars of the 1970's-80's Mustang in the trans-am series... the list goes on. you DID ask for a single brand. if you wanted a specific model. yeah.. Leo, I think you are right.
What knot with a collar pin. That was not a button-down. Had just worn the gray tie with the suit last time, reverted back. Thanks. PS - Don't think the tie will fool anyone on the height thing.
I would rate Ford higher. Winning a lot of races is one thing but what was the competition. Being the only factory team winning a series is one thing but winning against Ferrari/Porsche etc. In LeMans is something else....
Leo please convince the ACO and whoever else that we want the DP class to become in house build like that 2010 design study. Underneath LMP1 and replacing PC and P2. Street car recognition but still a prototype. DPs are slow (the aston martin gt1 was faster at Laguna Seca!) And we do not want generic bodies anymore
General Motors probably is the biggest racing brand in the US. Internationally, I think Ford is more well known, though. Probably because of their participation in WRC. I hope Dodge races the SRT Racing Dodge Dart in WRC, maybe with a FIAT E.torQ or JTD engine. p.s.: Fuck the haters, Leo!
Porsche doesn't have ricer wings since it has the power and everything to back it up. If it was a Ford Fiesta with a huge wing and a 100hp engine, then yes it is rice.
In answer to the videos question yes. But corvette is lagging behind and is in desperate need for updates. The mclaren mp4-12c is a perfect example of this. I think corvette should use twin clutch trannys for the next generation and should also have gt versions of the z06 and zr1 (like porsche) using wings chassis braces and all that good stuff. Just my opinion but corvette is lagging behind.
@Spyker88 Because up unil this year it was a dallara, always a dallara, a dallara vs Riley vs coyote etc etc they didn't call pruett's car a ford or a Porsche because of the engine, they called it a Riley or a Riley-Ford,
Ford has won WRC manufacturers titles, but it was my impression that their WRC cars were developed by the European branch of Ford, so I don't know that you could count them as "American" wins (look at that, an American giving someone else credit, where are your preconceptions now?)
I kinda feel like no one really takes Hyundai/Kia seriously when it comes to motorsports. Probably because they have no real pedigree in racing...also a reason why I'd most likely never buy a "performance" car from either company.
