  • The 24 Hour Rolex at Daytona International Speedway, the last 30 minutes of the race was the most intense race in the last decade across 2 of the 4 classes!
    The GTD field had 5 cars within 25 seconds of each other and the GTLM class had a teammate battle for the 1st place position. Here are some highlights and last 10 minutes of the 2016 24 Hour Rolex.
    Recorded from IMSA.tv using OBS. Stream was a tad choppy at times. Please be generous as to being able to see the ending battle :)

    The problem with imsa is every year corvette wins the first few races, then they add weight to the corvette to make it "fair" and it doesn't win any more races that season.

    • @racerdude888
      @racerdude888 8 років тому +64

      Yeah, they saddled them with a restricter also. They started the season 20hp down because of the torque they produce. They just one at Lime Rock tho... 100th win with 60 1-2 finishes. Pretty dominant. They also would have one the points championship last year if Mags started the last race at Road Atlanta. All he had to do is finish but he sat out with a concussion from the previous race...

    Ive noticed that people that dont like corvettes are either haters that dont know about cars, weirdos or both. Corvettes are great looking sports/supercars that dominated racing and streets for decades. Yet morons dont want to respect them. Lambos, ferrais, porsches all have been owned on freeway runs by my ZR1. All those owners like corvettes some own vettes too.

    • @Autos389

      Yeah...Corvettes over the generations have been the best looking cars and dominating Gt car races over the years you just get haters who are jealous that the road versions are half the price of most of the other cars but can beat them. There is also an anti American feeling and a snobbery of the European marques and Europeans, even though i'm British i respect all cars and have to admit that the Corvettes are simply...awesome!!!!!

      You do know that IMSA allows the Ferrari teams only 79 liter fuel tanks while the Vettes get a 92 liter fuel tank and that the Ferrari teams are made to use the smallest air intake restrictor of all the other cars....you know that right?...but during the LeMans the rules are equal and the Vettes don't do near as good against the Ferrari, AF CORSE Ferrari win the WEC world championship 3 years in a row 2012, 2013 and 2014 and won LeMans in 2012 and 2014.....last year at LeMans the Ferrari was beating the Vette by 2 laps, but some debris on the track got jammed up in the Ferrari gearbox allowing the Vette to go by and win. In IMSA, the Vette does good because the Ferrari has about 30% of its performance taken away, in the WEC where the rules are equal, the Vette rarely wins...you knew all of that right?...

    • @dsofe4879
      @dsofe4879 8 років тому +15

      woodystorey you do know you're leaving out some fairly important details as to why that is the case, right? You do know that, right? Right? RIGHT?

    • @woodystorey
      @woodystorey 8 років тому

      Tell me what that would be?....that IMSA doesn't want a foreign car to win over their prescious Vettes?....the rules are totally unfair against the Ferrari teams, I am actually Facebook friends with 2 Risi pit crew members, and factory Ferrari drivers Gianmaria Bruni, Toni Vilander and Olivier Berreta...I was messaging back and forth with Bruni during the "roar before the 24" and he was telling me the 488 could not accelerate with the Vette or stay with it on top speed, plus having the smaller fuel tank meant the Vette went farther on a tank of fuel and to top it off Risi and SMP Ferrari had to use smaller refueling nozzles that slowed their fuel delivery during pit stops....it's altogether totally unfair and all these Vette fans thinks it soooo great that the Vettes won Daytona and Sebring....but we'll see what happens at LeMans where under the WEC BoP is equal for all cars...we won't be seeing any Vette wins at LeMans like last year, and the Ferrari only lost out last year after leading with 55 minutes when debris from the track got jammed into the Ferrari gearbox just after Vilander ran down and passed the Vette and was pulling away easily....but you probably didn't watch LeMans last year did you?...

    • @woodystorey

      woodystorey you need to insert them yourself brother your saying in a different class that ferrari wins compared to corvette yet thats not how racing works in endurance racing they put all cars on a level playing field and try and make it more about driver and team a fuel tank really that matters so more fuel weight for corvette less for ferrari that means it actually is more efficient dont it oh wait all these cars arent really running poor fuel so of course some cars need more then others
      shit if yiu care about air dams why did caddilac win dpi this year? why do you need such excuses of wait because your not really a racing fan you just seem to love that enzo dont you

    Why would that 2nd corvette always come out faster on the straight? Is it Aero settings, slipstream or maybe both? I mean even the gear ratio, if allowed to change, can be a reason.

    • @Maenfy

      Slipstream, there would be no reason to have different setups on the same car.

    0:52 probably the biggest advantage Corvette has in GTLM is that they are REALLY good under braking, especially when compared to a Porsche with all that weight in the back. This is no coincidence since production Corvettes also share the same trait when compared to the rest of the world.

    • @eromanesc
      @eromanesc 6 років тому

      WarpPal I doubt the base model will be mid engined.... maybe for the zr1 they'll put the kid engine (not this upcoming zr1 but the one after that one)

    • @WarpPal
      @WarpPal 6 років тому

      elias roman Well One of those prominent auto magazines talked about this with one of the Corvettes head engineers and they are flirting with the idea. They even asked prominent auto designers to submit their designs. Chevy actually made a mid engined Corvette concept in the 80s so the Corvette is GOING to be mid engine at some point very soon, either C8 or C9.

    Well it's good to see bump'n'run tactics are alive and well in American GTLM racing. Funny how it always seems to involve a Corvette running up the arse of a Porsche though, eh? Shame the Kiwi didn't have a wall to run him into, apparently that's a mighty fine reposte in those situations.
