How often did he have to hit the brakes for the slow pokes going 120 mph in a BMW in the left lane? In 1978 at age 11 I was on The Autobahn with my parents in a rental car. My dad driving and my Nervous Nelly mom in the front passenger seat. I was in the left side of the rear seat. Trucks were limited to about 60 mph in the right lane. When my dad would see a car flying up from behind he would have to slam on the brakes and squeeze between two trucks. At the time trucks had their exhaust down in the rear, just the right place for it to blow into your cars ventilation system. Some of the cars that passed us in the left lane went by so fast it was a blur.
i loved that, along with how comfortable it apparently felt to drive the F1 at 391 kmph... normally, at that kind of speed, a driver on a conventional road is, wisely, not talking and rather scared for his life. the only concern here seemed to be not enough adrenaline.
I love when people call it Autobahn instead of Highway, there is nothing like it where you can race even more and not get penalized for it. Love German driving. Certain things can not be "anti-German" so to speak.
I bought a bmw and thought I was pushing it too hard on the turbos..my guy reminded me that these cars were made for the Autobahn...the longer I drove it the slower it seemed to be ..always wanting more ..I found Cobb tuning and jb4 ..I couldn't imagine how fast these cars are from the factory
The fact it was naturally aspirated and had a non electronic drivetrain/suspension shows you just how good those engineers were at what they do. A true engineering masterpiece.
Engineers are usually limited by time or money or rules this time they didn't, the original design of Jaguar XJ220 was way better than what finally went into production, money was the limit without that the McLaren F1 would had an actual competitor.

Now this is what a car documentary needs to be nowadays. No bullshit playing around, just straight to the point and giving out the passion and emotions these cars give out and present it to us viewers. 100/10 score for you guys!
Great job! I didn't know this video was " long ". It seemed like 10 minutes. The humor was great. The history of the F1 car and Gordon Murray was complex. Complexity takes time to thoroughly cover. You covered this so good, with humor well placed, that not a second was boring and the story flowed really good. This is what turned an actual 35 minute long video into what feels like a " 10 minute long video " . Well done and keep'em coming.
the funniest part is that he really said "oh i just have an issue wit it when I hit 197" like it was normal to drive that fast, especially in the time period. he just casually broke a speed record and still went to complain about it
Growing up the F1 was always "the car" that was the exception in discussions. The unicorn we all knew existed yet still felt more like a myth. Hell, even today it's the only car prior to 2000 listed under production cars with a sub 11 sec 1/4 mile. Oddly, some questionable Wikipedia editor apparently removed it as the 90's top speed car... 🤨
Paul Rosche was engineering genius. He designed the F1's engine in six months. What Hans Mezger was for Porsche,Rosche was for BMW.He was truly one of the automotive engineering greats.
Yes, Rosche was the MAN! That engine was just out of this world at the time, actually, aside from the advances in fuel injection like direct and port injection, a lot of this tech still carries over to this day in some form or another. In the automotive industry it might as well have been a lifetime ago!
It's not a ground up build. It's got a lot in common with the e36 s50b30 and the s54 You could say it's basically 2 of those inline 6s sharing a crank. With the massive carbon airbox it even sounds like an E46 CSL
I Thought i was watching Top Gear The Grand Tour Fifth Gear Or whatever the Gear is. The editing The storytelling The sheer excitement when you get behind a wheel of a car. Simply outstanding Hats off I have only one word And that's Outstanding. Period
The material on the exhaust is probably INCONEL not ICONEL. Inconel is also used for the 1st and 2nd baffles on firearm suppressor designs. The ability to handle the heat and the loads are what makes it special. Awesome documentary. Thank you for making it.
Yeah I was about to say the same thing, it's the second time I've heard an American pronounce it this way, I was starting to think it was how they pronounced it. I'm a pipefitter and I have worked with this material many times, so I am very familiar with It, so when I heard him say "iconel", and then say "yeah I've never heard of it" I instantly thought, yeah probably because iconel doesnt exist.
@@Shoultes yeah it's possible, some UA-camrs make mistakes on purpose so they get People like us making a comment to correct them, it bumps up their engagement.
This is the pinnacle of modern automotive journalism. I get some old school Top Gear vibes from from edit combined with the music. In fact, the use of music to emphasize a point or build tension is perfect. Keep making videos like this please!!
I was 12 years old when this car first came out and it was mind boggling. Read all about it , posters in my room..etc, then the internet started happening a couple years later and then it was there as well. Everywhere, the car that could beat anything on the road. It WAS the king. Never in my life did I ever think I'd see one. I'm now 41. We went to the Petersen Automotive Museum in LA and while walking around I saw a silver F1. I stood a foot away from it and was completely speechless. My wife didn't understand. I didn't say anything for probably the next 45 minutes of me looking at it. For 25+ years of imaging and reading what it might be, then to physically see it. It just let me with no words. That's how awesome this car is. It still is in my book one of the best cars ever made. It still looks modern 20+ years later and even given the selection of "hyper" cars today, this would still be my number one choice!
@@mysteriumxarxes3990 popular in a relative sense, the internet was the biggest “fringe” thing, lots of people knewit existed but had no reason to use it yet until it became easy to utilize
@@mysteriumxarxes3990 DOOM.......I still get chills whenever someone mentions it and I have been playing it since '94 and DOOM 2 still feels like this big new thing to me. Yes, internet was a big new "fringe" thing in '93 as even we had it on our budget 486sx25 although it was shitty Compuserve. I remember teachers in high school saying we could certainly cite sources from the internet for papers and projects. Also, I didn't realize how special the F1 was till recently.
@19:26 VANOS is not BMW's version of VTEC. VANOS is cam phasing that changes valve timing, not valve lift and duration. Valvetronic is BMW's version of VTEC. The McLaren F1 did not have Valvetronic. The first BMW engine to have Valvetronic was the N42 in 2001. The McLaren F1 engine was the S70/2 which was based on the S70B56 (used only in the E31 850CSi) but with the head design of the S30B52 (used in the E36 M3). The S30B52 had double VANOS (intake and exhaust phasing) thus the McLaren F1 had double VANOS.
This is like what Donut used to be. Storytelling, structure, history, the glory days of Up to Speed and Bumper to Bumper. This is superior in almost every way! Phenomenal work
It had just hit 2AM in Australia, I was about to go to bed, but instead watching a 35 Minute documentary about a car that 13 year old (now 21) has always dreamt of, learning so much more than what I thought I already knew, this was an incredible documentary and I genuinely mean thank you for creating it. Wow.
I was 13 years old when this car was released and I might have had wet dreams about it. I got to ride in one around 2003 when they were still somewhat affordable compared to now and it was better than I imagined.
As a former teacher I will again complement you on not only your passion to inform but how well you present the story of Murray and the F1. Enjoyed every minute, Well done (again)
Errr... As a "former teacher" you should know why using "complement" instead of "compliment" is toiletparts. No wonder I ignored "teachers" and did so well at both schools and universities......
The production quality on this channel is unmatched; your storytelling makes me feel like I'm living the experience just as much as those that were there to witness it. I wish I could subscribe twice
@@upstategearheads I thought I was the only one with that issue lol, its severely insufferable, how the hell can all of these people say all that fellatiating bs but miss such a major, blatant issue??
@@diyfuI agreed, that this is absolutely top tier production quality. And as you obviously being a man of culture, I have to introduce you to MagnetesMedia (business legends), melodysheep (astronomy/physics) and Ahoy (gaming), who create absolutely incredible documentaries on their respective subjects, who are also part of this elite club of highest quality content creators 😊
that was the thing I kept coming back to. this car could roll into a showroom right now in 2023, you could tell people that it is an all new model and it would still look like a top of the line masterpiece. There were no design constraints to stick to, no brand recognition to employ, no era defining curves or angles. other than some internal gages and things that hadn't been improved yet, nothing dates this car. just a car, designed to the limits for control and performance.
I’ve recently lost my passion towards documentaries but after watching a video of two or yours I can say it got revived. Gotta appreciate the fine work you do with these videos and I can only imagine how difficult for you to find 100s of super rare clips from the nineties and putting them all in one clip. Thank you for this perfection
We've unearthed a diamond among the rubble fellas. Mark my words this channel is gonna be huge very soon. Your production levels and storytelling skills are simply unmatched man! Take a bow!
Exactly my thoughts This was what I was thinking your research and level of detailed info's personas explained or the vision of Murray you explained to us exactly what this car is about. A wonder of engineering and feelings.
Literal GOOSEBUMPS AND SPINE TINGLING experience I've rewatched this 4 times already You are sooo good at capturing the fundamental essence behind a car or a topic ONE of the best documentaries I have ever watched. Thanks 👍
Jesus christ, this is literal documentary material. Something that I'd actually sit down and watch on TV, but I'm watching it all here. Fucking fantastic video efforts, man.
Never been a super car fan, always enjoyed tuners and always spit out the term "it's more enjoyable to drive a slow car fast" but this documentary literally gave me chills. It humbled me and gave me more respect for the McLaren F1. Uncompromised is what I'd call this vehicle and that's what I love in a car.
This car wasn’t anticipated in 1993 like modern hypercars are. It was released into an economic recession immediately after the financial disaster that was the Jaguar XJ220. At £400,000 people who initially placed deposits on the Jaguar asked for their money back and eventually went to court to get it. Then McLaren released the F1 at £540,000 plus VAT tax. It was insane. Of the 300 cars McLaren planned to make there were only 62 interested buyers.
As someone who was a teenager in the mid/late 90’s and who loved cars, it’s impossible to understate just how god-tier the McLaren F1 was for its day… hell, it’s STILL god-tier, all of these nearly three decades later. There was nothing like it then, and there still is nothing quite like it even today. This was an absolutely fantastic documentary, and it did great justice to the legend that is the McLaren F1.
GOD that was a fantastic documentary. I was sent this by a friend that is more in-tune with cars than I am and yet I hung onto every single word. Thanks to the editing and delivery of the lines, the feeling of hearing everyone who went into the results of the Le Mans win was almost *nostalgic* - almost like I was there. Mclaren F1 has been my favorite hypercar since I saw it in NFS: Hot Pursuit 2 on the PS2. I’m glad to have that opinion validated so strongly with such a great history lesson 💙✨ Keep up the fantastic work!~
Quality over quantity at it’s best! A history class for motorsport for geeks like us where not only we can learn and get an insight of these beast output that you’ve crafted but also having a community whose curiosity about learning and gaining knowledge in the automotive industry. This could easily broadcast in TV shows when there is no internet but I guess the internet opened a new world of learning and exchanging insights from the community as well. Kudos Squidd! More to come, keep em pouring!
When the Mclaren F1 came out you only heard about it through word of mouth. There was no high speed internet. Your friends told you about it and it then captured your imagination. This is one of the reasons why it was so mythical.
I dare say it became mythical because of *current* generation of car youtube channels and videogames. Like you pointed out, almost nobody knew about the F1 in the early 90's. My dad used to buy me tons of car magazines then, and F40 and the Diablo were the top of the hill.
@@jamesengland7461 yeah but only in 1992 when it came out to be presented at monaco, from 1989 to 1991 almost no one knows anything besides supliers and people in factory
Bro what the heck is this? This is a full-blown documentary! It is better than most mainstream TV pieces. I never thought I'd see such a quality production on UA-cam. Amazing job!
This channel is going above and beyond. Such good storytelling. This was epic. I enjoyed this 35 minutes so much that it felt like just 5. If you continue to make films of this quality, I could watch for hours.
Mclaren F1 is the world's fastest NA car, not the world's fastest production car that just so happens to be NA. Though, that does not take away from it's greatness. 3 decades later and it still holds this title 🐐
This is one of the greatest series on youtube. Binged watched all in one night. Please make more long form like this one, you get more invested into the story as it goes along and it becomes less of a documentary but more like a movie with a great ending. The hype is real!!
The story telling and build up leading to these final words 35:00 when i tell you i had shivers up my spine man this was an amazing documentary bravo to you my good sir 🤌🏼
@@the.squidd if i may do some nitpicking: The Bugatti Veyron is technically faster, but only at higher speeds. The F1 still has the lower-speed acceleration advantage which is just amazing. It's noteworthy but perhaps not fitting for this video. Thank you for delivering such a splendid video.
@@TheExileFox The oldest form of the Veyron is from 2005, over a decade after the McLaren F1. Even if there are now cars that exceed its pace, the F1 was well ahead of its time and still is the gatekeeper for the definition of a hypercar (at least as far as I know/feel).
This was the best 35 minute documentary about a car that changed the whole automotive industry as whole. Learning it’s humble beginnings to its legendary status of the modern day hyper car. Well done my friend u just earned ur self a subscriber 😁
35 minutes of nothing but my single favorite car ever made. I first saw the F1 in a car magazine my grandpa gave me when we were visiting with my parents and sister. Initially bored I just turned pages but then stumbled upon THIS. This very moment got me interested in cars. That was 26 years ago. Today was a good afternoon. I hope your channel explodes in popularity over the next months. You absolutely deserve it.
There will NEVER be another car like the McLaren F1. Even today it's still the fastest naturally aspirated road-legal car ever made, a record that will probably never be beaten.
@@jfwfreo you certainly could, just wouldn't be in public roads. Then again, we know how to run cars on hydrogen. So that's the ultimate answer if only water comes out the exhaust.
Great video. I'm sure someone has already pointed it out to you but the alloy is "Inconel" not "Iconel". It was developed by the International Nickel COmpany (The Inco in Inconel). Its most famous use is probably in the Pratt & Whitney J58 (AKA JT11D-20) axial-flow turbojet engines of the Lockheed A-12, YF-12 and SR-71 Blackbird. The plane demanded the cutting edge of material science and even though the alloy was invented in 1932, it was still on the bleeding edge of technology when they decided to use it to replace the Waspaloy of the diffuser case. The Waspaloy diffuser case welds were cracking under pressure (which isn't particularly desirable in a jet engine) so it needed to be replaced. The Diffuser case is the part that is used to join the compressor to the combustor. It contains the highest pressure in the engine and as a result requires an incredibly material to do the job properly. Cool video man.
Yeah I definitely have heard by now haha. The power of a typo... Gosh I wanna make a video about the SR-71. I LOVE jets. Thanks for watching and sharing!
Also used extensively in oil & gas production equipment exposed to hydrogen sulfide (sour) gas ... which can and has killed at very low concentrations.
Just FYI, the material used for the exhausts is called inconel, and is also pronounced very differently. They used to use in F1 too but was banned to reduce costs. Nice video!
Ink-oh-nell It’s also hard to machine and eats tungsten carbide DMG MORI built an all in one 3D Laser Printer and 5-Axis CNC in the early 2010’s to prototype single piece turbine components and impellers, fractured parts could be machined to a smooth surface and printed back together like a starfish losing a spine (leg/arm). It was still considered exotic in 2016 when we were working with it for NASA components and high end semiconductor in the shop
Thanks for mentioning this, I cringed at that as well. Inconel is a Special Metals Corporation trade name for a series of nickel-based superalloys (rather than a single material) that exhibit corrosion resistance far superior to stainless steels while also exhibiting strength comparable to hardened alloy steels...except, whereas most steels get softer and weaker in proportion to rising temperature, Inconels remain almost the same strength all the way up to about 1200F, just before they melt. Inconels are used for all sorts of high temperature, high corrosion environments, particularly around combustion, such as turbines (jets, turbochargers, and power generators), exhaust systems (piping and bolts), and piston engine exhaust valves.
I was hoping to get more insight into the gearbox. I think that was one of the biggest hurdles they had after the engine was developed. Otherwise, dude speechless, this embodies everything I’ve ever felt about the McLaren F1 since I was a kid. It really is the ultimate car, and that’s what makes it so special. It’s amazing that after all these years, it hasn’t been topped.
Gordon Murray the high priest of top tier automotive engineering. I deeply respect this engineering genius. We (engineers in different disciplines) wish we could have his kind of gift. Truly a frontier stretcher (of the best kind).
Finally a McLaren F1 video. The greatest car of all time, and the LM version of it is my favourite car in the world. Thanks for this video Squidd, and great as always. Can't wait to see what else you intend to do
This documentary is legit perfection, very engaged the entire time. So incredible to see all the resources and time that went into the McLaren F1, I have a new dream car. Great job.
Ever since the GTR video popped into my feed a week after it's upload, I knew I needed to subscribe. It brought a smile to my face and nearly moved me to tears, no joke. Now, here I sit, stricken with the same emotions once again. Your passion is inspiring and it shows through your work. If I was only allowed one word, your videos are awesome. But not that modern-day awesome, being the synonym to "extra cool" as it is. I mean the traditional sense of awesome, leaving you to sit and revel in its beauty, mouth agape and without words. I only have one request: that you please cover the Saleen S7, and by extension, Saleen as a company. I feel as though your videos would be the ones to do justice to its story.
This is one of the best automotive channels I’ve ever watched on UA-cam! The nostalgia, the stories, the cars. Absolutely brilliant every time from start to finish!
I remember reading about this car in imported UK magazines at Borders and Barnes & Noble when I was a kid and always loved the 3 seat design. The center-seat position always felt like it was the most natural place for the driver. In the years since I've read a lot about the history, but THIS video does the story so much justice. McLaren should have paid you and your team to make this one!
Someone needs to make a Movie series or a Show about this. I feel like I can binge 20 seasons from Gordan Murray's origin to all the engineers, drivers, races and other stories involved with this master piece right up to Murray making the T.50s.
I deliberately came looking for this documentary coz I know quite a bit about the history of the F1. So I was hoping you had an episode that covered it...and boy oh boy, you didn't disappoint 😊👌🏽
This was one of the best 30 minutes car documentary ever. It would be very very hard to outdo this masterpiece by you. I feel if they ever make a movie on Gordon Murray or McLaren F1 they should take this video as reference.
It's rare to find videos that go in depth and really show you how good something is, your work is better than a lot of professional documentaries. I'm subscribed.
The Story. The Editing. The Beauty. The Dedication. This video gave me goosebumps 90% of the time, and the other 10% was simply a majestic learning experience. What a road car this is.
I remember being a young man in the early 90s and wanting the McLaren F1. It was an impossible dream, still is, but wow. I never knew the history, or the man behind such a gorgeous car. Gordon Murray is a god.
This video is the best one about the Mclaren F1 I've ever watched. Even though I knew most of the details, still goosebumps all the way. This is a true testament to the greatness that was the F1
So glad that there's still room for content about these cars. I try to tell a tale my own way and I never, ever, want to be seen as doing "what everyone else is".
Your videos are really some of the best on UA-cam. You can tell that they come from passion and not just wanting to be known or wanting money. Thank you for being so passionate
@@wickedhouston5538 In what department ?! I'm not a huge fan of modern spercars, think they've lost their soul a bit and most are too heavy. I'd rather have Ferrarri F50 or a Mclaren F1 over them any day. But those cars are obsolete now in terms of performance.
I can listen to just the audio of your videos while going on a long drive. That is enough to understand and get to know the greatness of the cars you describe. Great work. Keep it up!
This is my first video from this channel and I immedieatly hit the follow button. One of the greatest UA-cam videos ever made. Production and storytelling is "pure"
The McLaren F1 has always been my dream supercar ever since I first laid eyes on her when I was 10 years old. And the unreal performance only added to the legend of this car. It held the world speed record for a production car for the best part of a decade. It was generations ahead of its time. The first hypercar indeed.
And the fact that when it was taken to Le Mans, it's power was restricted and it didn't just win in it's class, but it won the whole race even beating out the LMP cars. Yes, there was some luck involved, but reliability is part of winning the Le Mans 24 hour race.
i have crush on this car since i was ten because of... NFS Hot Pursuit (2010). it was so beautiful, and the fact that they added a car from the nineties to the fastest class, on par with koenisseg and bugatti veyron was suspicious, but now i know that it just was 20 years in front of the competition. Wonderful video.
I've watched a few of your videos, and I have to say... They are damned fine. Beautiful time capsules that go into excellent detail without being stuck on any one point. Your word flow and change from topic to topic regarding the history of the McLaren F1 is flawlessly paced. You should be PROUD of this video, because it just earned you yet another subscriber. xD
I'm amazed that you only have around 60k subscribers with such quality put into your content, I wish nothing but the best for you and your channel in hopes that it grows even more
And there was the accident of former BMW CEO Pietschesrieder in 1995 on a rural road close to Chiemsee in Bavaria. Until today it was undisclosed at what speed he was driving his F1 and caused outrage on how the press department handled this issue by protecting him.
As a McLaren fan, this is the greatest video I have seen on the subject. This is truly the best script, production etc. 10/10 you are very underrated. Please continue to make long fascinating car documentaries.
When I was 6 years old, I saw the F1 in need for speed 2, and this car became my ultimate favorite. Thanks for this documentary, and the respect this beauty truly deserves.
Edit: 22:35 this highlights further how brilliant Frank Dernie was and why Williams was so dominant in the 80s. He was doing this with computer models as early as Alan Jones’ title. He specialized in software designed to maximize wind tunnels and trained the famed Ross Brawn. He’s still credited for being the first engineer to implement a data logger for the wind tunnel and further specialize in suspension tech being the inventor of active suspension on a formula 1 race car. you know it's gonna be a banger when it opens with Continent by ANBR haha brilliant stuff
Everything that you've said about the F1 in this documentary, is all of the reasons I fell in love with it as a child in the early 2000s in JGTC/SuperGT Era of racing and to this day, is still my all-time favourite car
I know this is an old one but I just got around to watching it, and you guys/gals crushed it again! Something I thought you might find useful is a little input on where to go from here with videos like these - I would start making follow up videos covering some of the amazing stuff McLaren has been up to since the F1. I know you already make connections from other videos, but thought some more current info would also be good. Thanks!!
Awesome! Thank you I’ll consider it. I have real bad adhd so I love bouncing from new subject to new subject but as we’ve done r32 in group a and now the JGTC Supra being a sort of “next episode” in that era I think we will start seeing “follow ups”
I want to thank and congratulate you on this masterpiece of automotive journalism. All the thoughts and passion put in this video is safely delivered from wherever you are to Malaysia. I had to take a 10 minutes long stare into the ceiling just to absorb both the greatness of the F1 and the video. Again, thank you for this.

And that's exactly what it is. And you even gave me some facts that I didn't know that somehow made me appreciate the creation of this car even more. Thank you for this 🌟
Oh my god that was insane! I was never a fan of McLaren cars but now I understand why this car is so respected. As an aspiring automotive engineer who'll be starting his first semester in Ausgust, and one that's obsessed with vehicle dynamics and packaging, the details of the F1's design made me question every single desgin and manufacturing principle I've ever known of. I thought I knew a lot, like, I had thought of ambitious designs too but compared to the team behind the project, I'm just a babbling child. Mad respect to the whole road car team, and to you, Squidd. Great documentary as always.
The McLaren F1 has done what has still to this day been unable to replicate. I can’t think of any naturally aspirated car that can touch this thing. Also if you’re getting into automotive design and engineering look into Koenigsegg, his cars are the only ones I can think of that just like the McLaren are a tier above the competition.
@@maddog7771 Yeah their light weight composite structure and interior design is also very cool. Same goes for the hydraulics. Those are also very sexy.
@@p.kuansuwan2070 the crazy part is the attention to detail, Koenigsegg goes out of their way to forgo any plastic in their vehicles. Even the control knobs and interior details. Anything backlit is typically metal with small cutouts so the backlighting can illuminate them.
Having been at prime "imprinting" age in the 90's, this car has been part of my soul since I learned about it. This car is so special, it forced me to mature beyond looking at a car just for it's pure speed because when the Veyron came out, it was always compared to the F1 for top speed. A part of me always knew this car was so much more than a Veyron could ever be, and now I know why, Gordon Freakin' Murray.
Well this might be one of the most amazing car “documentaries” (or in lack of better words), and I’m so glad I just found out about your channel. When watching this video it only has 17k views, but the quality outperforms all expectations and it goes above and beyond nearly all of the large production documentaries! Thank you!

The fact it was naturally aspirated and had a non electronic drivetrain/suspension shows you just how good those engineers were at what they do. A true engineering masterpiece.
Bruce McLaren himself was brilliant too. Sadly he died at Goodwood.
Engineers are usually limited by time or money or rules this time they didn't, the original design of Jaguar XJ220 was way better than what finally went into production, money was the limit without that the McLaren F1 would had an actual competitor.

Well done and keep'em coming.
the funniest part is that he really said "oh i just have an issue wit it when I hit 197" like it was normal to drive that fast, especially in the time period. he just casually broke a speed record and still went to complain about it
After almost 30 years...this is still the most beautiful and special car to have ever hit the road

Yes, Rosche was the MAN! That engine was just out of this world at the time, actually, aside from the advances in fuel injection like direct and port injection, a lot of this tech still carries over to this day in some form or another.

The XJ220 is the greatest looking car ever created and not to be underestimated. Total work of art.

DMG MORI built an all in one 3D Laser Printer and 5-Axis CNC in the early 2010’s to prototype single piece turbine components and impellers, fractured parts could be machined to a smooth surface and printed back together like a starfish losing a spine (leg/arm).
It was still considered exotic in 2016 when we were working with it for NASA components and high end semiconductor in the shop
was about to comment same. My father was part of the Inconel 625 project back in the late 70s

But those cars are obsolete now in terms of performance.
@@michaeltrumph121 Well, it is still the fastest naturally aspirated car.
@@1994TeeJay1994
Actually, it ain't, on a track I mean, and it never was, not even when it came out.
The build up to that one last line had my heart racing and almost brought me into tears!
Since you presented the F1 in great details I consider it a rare masterpiece.
I can listen to just the audio of your videos while going on a long drive. That is enough to understand and get to know the greatness of the cars you describe. Great work. Keep it up!
I should make podcasts
This is my first video from this channel and I immedieatly hit the follow button. One of the greatest UA-cam videos ever made. Production and storytelling is "pure"
Welcome aboard! Glad you enjoyed it friend!
The McLaren F1 has always been my dream supercar ever since I first laid eyes on her when I was 10 years old. And the unreal performance only added to the legend of this car. It held the world speed record for a production car for the best part of a decade. It was generations ahead of its time. The first hypercar indeed.
A car that dominated these figures was never made with them in mind.
That sentence just makes things epic.
And the fact that when it was taken to Le Mans, it's power was restricted and it didn't just win in it's class, but it won the whole race even beating out the LMP cars. Yes, there was some luck involved, but reliability is part of winning the Le Mans 24 hour race.
You probably wont see it since it's a year old video, but damn the quality is truly outstanding. Truly one of the best documentaries I've ever seen
I read every comment friend, and I appreciate them as much today as I did a year ago.
i have crush on this car since i was ten because of... NFS Hot Pursuit (2010). it was so beautiful, and the fact that they added a car from the nineties to the fastest class, on par with koenisseg and bugatti veyron was suspicious, but now i know that it just was 20 years in front of the competition. Wonderful video.
You have an unwavering ability to compile knowledge and deliver it in a way that scares the viewer it may end too soon. Hell of a job my friend.
Thank you friend that gave me a smile
I was gutted when it ended your absolutely right amazing story telling cinematography was well enjoyable
I've watched a few of your videos, and I have to say... They are damned fine. Beautiful time capsules that go into excellent detail without being stuck on any one point. Your word flow and change from topic to topic regarding the history of the McLaren F1 is flawlessly paced. You should be PROUD of this video, because it just earned you yet another subscriber. xD
I am immensely proud to have earned your support my friend, thank you for stopping by, watching, and sharing your thoughts!
@@the.squidd Anything to promote fun-to-watch content. :)
Literally gave me goosebumps. The greatest most iconic car ever made
Easily watchable, completely entertaining, information enhancing, Truly a masterpiece of a Tribute!
🤜🤛
It felt like I was watching a professionally made production the whole way through. Stellar work!
the crash test of the f1 hurt me
I'm amazed that you only have around 60k subscribers with such quality put into your content, I wish nothing but the best for you and your channel in hopes that it grows even more
Thanks friend!
No plans on stopping!
When I was 6 years old, I saw the F1 in need for speed 2, and this car became my ultimate favorite. Thanks for this documentary, and the respect this beauty truly deserves.
Glad you enjoyed it!
You can tell the amount of passion put in this video. A new fan of McLaren F1 was just born! (Amazing youtube channel also!!!)
Making this video made me a huge fan of the F1
Again, thank you for this.
i have an exam in 13 hours, never imagined i'd be spending time watching a car documentary this long. Your story Telling is simply nothing short of amazing, i santed the video to go on which is wild
Just so you know, I have downloaded this video to my phone so I can watch it every single day. It is that good. Thank you 💯
I already knew most of the information that was said in this video, because this is MY favorite car ever made, and it has been ever since it was made in 93, and I was born in 91, so basically my whole life 🤣 I never could put into enough words WHY this was such a gem to me. You just did for me.
This video is the perfect showcase of explaining why the McLaren F1 is the greatest car to ever be made. Everything about the car was designed to be perfect. And that's exactly what it is. And you even gave me some facts that I didn't know that somehow made me appreciate the creation of this car even more. Thank you for this 🌟
Wow thank you so much friend. I know this is a super important car to so many people. Glad I did it some justice! Thanks for watching!
Yes the detail in everything spoken is like a book beautifully written I can see why you did
Oh my god that was insane!
🤜🤛 thanks friend and good luck with your career!
This was epic!
If you've not done long versions of content before? Then you've hit this one out of the stadium 👏
It's the power of big hair and a sharp mustache. Unstoppable combination.
Veyron is just a status symbol for rich idiots with no driving skill. A McLaren is a car for a driver, it's a racers car.
Well this might be one of the most amazing car “documentaries” (or in lack of better words), and I’m so glad I just found out about your channel.
When watching this video it only has 17k views, but the quality outperforms all expectations and it goes above and beyond nearly all of the large production documentaries!
Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it friend!
My father still has a mint 93 NSX. Growing up, he had an 02’ NSX as well. I used to sneak it out and take it to car meets here in South Florida. Those cars are super cool. Not the fastest by any means, but the handling is superb and definitely turns heads. I was making girls leave their boyfriends with me, before kids were doing that on UA-cam 😂
I'm jealous, that's my dream car.
This is by far the best documentary I've ever watched🔥🔥🔥
This was perfection, not just the car but the video! Hats off to you, the best info based video rivalling a classic Top Gear passion filled video! Please do more like this!
