    Thanks a lot. This helped clear up a few items, it's great that you also gave the torque settings. Good practice where you fill with coolant after fitting the water pump. This also prevents damage to the water pump seal as it is now lubracted when turning the engine during the final TB alignment check.

    Excellent as always mate. Have you ever done a cambelt change on a 2.0 tdci fitted to either the mk3 focus or mk4 mondeo . I've just done mine and after sparking it up there was this whirring noise coming from the cam sprocket,have you come across this before or can you think what the issue might be as so far no one can tell me.

    • @diydaly
      @diydaly  2 роки тому +1

      Hi , If you check my timing belt playlist there’s one for a mondeo 2.0 tdci.. on the one. You did has in got the large keyway gap on the crank pulley? Allowing quite a lot of float? It’s easy to get them a tooth out when that’s the case.. if so you might find there’s a pin hole in the flywheel to lock it off properly

    • @unionflag9609
      @unionflag9609 2 роки тому +1

      Thanks for replying.I did watch it and I did the same as you and every other video on the subject I watched. Yes there is a hole in the flywheel which I pinned up but what I have noticed since doing the job a few times is there's a bit of movement in the crank even when pinned up so you could be right in that it's a tooth out however, the noise did stop 30secs after I started It once but that was due to the tensioner not being located on the dowel and once correctly fitted the noise was back.Its all a bit of a mystery which I'd like more information on before pulling it apart again.

    • @diydaly
      @diydaly  Рік тому +2

      Glad it will help! only 1 should line up correctly , it is just a high pressure pump though so if both do Line up it wont matter which one

    • @mixerfistit5522
      @mixerfistit5522 Рік тому

      I found that you had to rotate the crank about 8 times to get the fuel pump with the 2 holes to line up (and when it did the the cam pin went in much further strangely)
      Also if iirc its neither of the 2 holes in the fuel pump that actually accept the pin; it's a hole further out to the edge on the same 'spoke' as one of the 2 holes. Roughly the 3 o'clock position I think

    • @diydaly
      @diydaly  Рік тому +3

      Thanks, cam belts are allways bit risky first time,, but if your fairly competent just take your time and there not bad to do really .. as long as you make sure everything timed up correctly and the tensioner etc are all tight you can't go too wrong .. always turn the engine over twice after replacement to double check the timing etc 👍

    Hi what would happen if the crank did a extra turn? I have a feeling someone that did it on mine took the belt of but did a extra turn on the crank pulley. Obviously the crank is pinned and cam is pinned also fuel is within its hole.
    Car seems to be running weird like a weird exhaust sound like a missfire I thought maybe it's the fuel injection pump that's not timed but it is not out as all pins line up. Was told the crank may of had a extra turn but wouldn't make a difference. Car runs ok but just weird noise like a fueling burbling noise exhaust or engine when driving

    Hello, excellent video thank you. Would appreciate your help please. I have measured my new belt and it is exactly the same size as the old one with the same number of teeth. However there is no way I will be able to stretch the belt onto the tensioner. The pin on the tensioner is in the middle of the slot (I bought a brand new Dayco kit) and the tensioner wheel looks too close to the other replacement idler wheel. I am reluctant to take out the pin on the tensioner before it is all set up to give me some more slack. Thank you

Is it possible to damage the tensioner before it is installed by removing the pin ? When I came to line up the hole with the new belt on, I had to turn the allen key clockwise to line it up. Could this stretch the bolt and require it's replacement, or is the bolt really chunky? I ask as i had one snap after 18000 miles on a 1.9d passat, but i think it may have failed as the vw garage didn't do it up tight enough, as by their own admission they had no tool to lock the timing gears.

    Do you ever rotinely replace the cam shaft timing chain on the 16 valve Hdi engines? Apparently the recommended interval is 150k miles, same as the timing belt. Mine is at 162k miles, so the belt is over due, but the chain looks like a bigger job with another £100 for the kit. But i never heard of anyone changing the chain, or the chain breaking for that matter, so not sure if it is worth the expense?

      @@diydaly Thanks for your reply! It looks to me like nobody changes them routinely, there aren't many videos on UA-cam of timing chain replacement other than when there is other damage. I guess there is too much risk of snapping injector bolts, etc to justify the benifit against the low risk of chain failure? Thanks again.
