Zefiro torna e di soavi accenti
l’aer fa grato e’il pié discioglie a l’onde
e, mormoranda tra le verdi fronde,
fa danzar al bel suon su’l prato i fiori.
Inghirlandato il crin Fillide e Clori
note temprando lor care e gioconde;
e da monti e da valli ime e profond
raddoppian l’armonia gli antri canori.
Sorge più vaga in ciel l’aurora, e’l sole,
sparge più luci d’or; più puro argento
fregia di Teti il bel ceruleo manto.
Sol io, per selve abbandonate e sole,
l’ardor di due begli occhi e’l mio tormento,
come vuol mia ventura, hor piango hor canto.

Return O Zephyr, and with gentle motion
Make pleasant the air and scatter the grasses in waves
And murmuring among the green branches
Make the flowers in the field dance to your sweet sound;
Crown with a garland the heads of Phylla and Chloris
With notes tempered by love and joy,
From mountains and valleys high and deep
And sonorous caves that echo in harmony.
The dawn rises eagerly into the heavens and the sun
Scatters rays of gold, and of the purest silver,
Like embroidery on the cerulean mantle of Thetis.
But I, in abandoned forests, am alone.
The ardour of two beautiful eyes is my torment;
As my Fate wills it, now I weep, now I sing.

Zefiro vuelve, y con dulces acentos
el aire encanta y libera a los pies de las olas,
y murmurando entre las hojas verdes,
hace bailar con su dulce sonido a las flores.
Con guirnaldas de cabello, Phyllis y Cloris

I am a former musician of the alto saxophone I played numerous genres symphonic/ jazz and I was brought to tears to see the true beauty of the alto saxophone be so beautifully presented with also some incredible vocalists and everyone performing -You are all fantastic- from America -la Amore Bravissima!!
Oh my, this brings back memories. I taught this to a children's choir I directed a very long time ago. We didn't have instrumental accompaniment expect a lone cello playing the continuo bass line, and we went a little slower. But OMG the kids ages 8-12 learned all that. It was thrilling to perform it.

I had the same reaction. You might like to know that this isn't Medieval music. It's late Renaissance music, but your description still applies.

This nice crossover rendition must be not only viral, but showed in all music school and conservatories for prove, just listening the music, that before the Classical and Romantic periods, western classical music was ALSO improvised like jazz is.
CIACCONA was one of the many dances of Renaissance and Baroque times, with a very simple line bass - that everyone can sing just imitate the sound of a double bass or a trombone - and singers and/or instruments that improvised around a simple melody.
I agree and add that the use of "diminutions," "enlargements," and imitation of characteristic basses, as in ciaccona, was a technique of iproviso far beyond written samples.
to be fair, it is well known that music up until about Mozart's time was written by composers with further improvisation from performers in mind. It's only from mid 19th century that it became generalised for composers to insist on writing everything down and have performers adhere faithfully to the written piece.

Can you all imagine Claudio Monteverdi playing an electric keyboard and saxophone? I would like to see this group perform Quel Sguardo Sdegnosetto in this manner; in costume in an artistic video.
With due regard to Monteverde and his time, he can be considered the father of the orchestra for having adopted new instrumental combinations for the time. In his Tancredi Combat and Clorinda used the instruments with previously unused effects. Who knows how many other innovations he would not adopt. Note: I like period interpretations, but I admire some performances like that.

Monteverdi was a musical genius, and one of the earliest composers of opera. Only 3 of his operas survive, and they are performed often in Western Europe, especially Italy. Your F# arrangement of this dance is wonderful. Желаю вам всем удачи!

mi fa molto piacere che brani stupefacenti come ZEFIRO vengano interpretati con ritmi e strumenti diversi da quelli che Monteverdi non conosceva : libertà interpretativa, quindi, ma rispettando sempre il messaggio che l'autore ha voluto comunicare. Al limite, c'è ancora margine di manovra per sfruttare la forza poetica di questo ed altri brani.

The saxophone is definitely an unusual choice but after listening to it I totally get it. Obviously something that would substitute the color of a serpent or a shawm would sound nice in this context. excellent!
