Interesting interview. Mann's book is very smart, and very well researched. As he implies here Streisand herself has worked continually over the years to shape her own preferred myth about her early years - which is pretty much that she did it all herself, without much help from anyone. In her most recent interview's she's even started to airbrush Barry Dennen out of the picture, maintaining that they were "just friends", never lovers. This despite Dennen's detailed and intimate book about their relationship and numerous first-hand contemporaneous accounts of the relationship by her inner circle of the time.
