Currently going through the application process myself so this video gave me solid insight on what I should expect. Thanks for making an informative video, hope things are going well for you and your studies!

Hey, Viv! I'm going through the application process right now. I also have 2 degrees, Bachelor's and Master's. I'm looking to change careers and am halfway through the process and will be doing Cyber/IT Security. Great to hear your story! It's encouraging. I'm just trying to figure out what the minimum course load is and how that works. If you work 40+ hours and can devote 15 hours give or take per week, is that enough?

Azzurri82 Congrats on your decision to start in a new direction! The minimum course load at WGU is 8 units per term for graduate students. How long it takes to complete each course totally depends on what you already know about the topic(s) as well as other factors (e.g., personal speed, motivation, capacity, etc.) Either way, 15 hours sounds like a good plan! All the best!

Thanks! I'm really pretty excited about starting. Is 8 units representative of 2 courses or 1 course or do courses not necessarily have a set amount of units? I still haven't started only because I'm having he opposite experience you had with regard to the time for transcripts to get to their destination. I wound up having to expedite them in the end. I know my admissions rep. went over it in the beginning during our first conversation but with the fire hose of info coming at you, i think i either didn't make my question as specific as this or not. One last question: do you belong to any study groups/online cohort groups? I know these exist but it depends on the degree and the mentor(s) as to their support groups or lack thereof.

Great Video! Based on your experience would you recommend WGU'S Teaching bachelor's degree program? I'm comparing their program to the traditional brick and mortar colleges in my area.

Christie Williams Hi there! I would say that I whole-heartedly recommend WGU for teachers who have already taught, as they have real-world experience to pull from and put everything in context. I can't really speak for those who have never taught before, but my assumption is that an online platform may or may not be the best platform depending on the individual and his/her specific circumstances. I think building in-person relationships with those who have various experiences in teaching was a key component of my experience when I received my degree prior to teaching. If you are able to fulfill that through WGU or another source, I'd say it really just depends on the person individually and what s/he needs. Also, the school that I got my certification at had student teaching experiences throughout the entire program; maybe if you already work at a school, you can find ways to get co-teaching experience even before your official student teaching experience begins. I hope this helps!

How has everything been since you graduated ?

Hi Katherine! Things are going well! I originally had a full written response to this, but I am planning to just create a video post in the near future with all of those details. Here is the super short version with the key points. As a result of careful financial planning on my end and WGU's incredible rate, I was able to pay off $2,337.96 for my entire math ed masters degree student loan within a few months of completing the program. In terms of my career, I've actually made a complete diversion and have spent the past 6 months establishing a new career in tech. I considered beginning studies at WGU for computer science or software development, but I've realized that a lot of the skills I need to create web projects for clients can actually be self-taught or attained through free sources (both local and distant). Are you considering a WGU program or have you already started?

Jean Uwumuremyi Hi Jean! Your field is unique in that there are so many routes into the industry. Make sure you look into all of your options and choose what’s the best fit for you. I say this because I am currently taking programming coursework free of charge through a variety of different sources, ranging from courses on sites like Udemy and a local programming program called Launchcode (which includes potential apprenticeship opportunities with local employers). I’d look into what opportunities there are in your area as well as what credentials your prospective employers are seeking (some do indeed require a degree in a related field while some just care about your actual knowledge, skills and portfolio.) Best of luck!
