When antifa threatened to burn down Gettysburg last 4th of July 2020 the Pennsylvania state militia and motorbike “gangs” flooded Gettysburg and they were armed! Long guns, sniper rifles, shotguns, big revolvers, tactical vests and more. State militias are very much like a small civilian military just without the fitness standards of the us military. @Anya Harrison You make a good point in that Turkey, China and other authoritarian governments are closer to Russia than they are to the Western Allied nations, but what they have is more of an alliance of convenience. It's also a very transactional relationship. Juxtapose that with the Western Allied Nations, most of us have not only fought and died for one another countless times, making this alone unique, we also have shared ancestry, cultures and traditions because America is much more embracing of new people. Don't underestimate China and India's rough past. India's people are also used to democracy, which is something they will never willingly give up. Turkey is corrupt and it's leader is an authoritarian, and I believe there is already consideration to limiting Turkey with NATO intelligence, and possibly even expulsion altogether. We'll see. India's people as a whole are much more in line with Western Democracies and cultures than Authoritarian regimes of Russia and China.

They lack the blue water Naval capabilities to land an assault force capable of securing a foothold on American soil..If things where to escalate into nuclear conflict it's automatically game over for both the US as well as the aggressor nation. This is obviously known by US adversarial nations, and they don't want to have their own armies and civilian population destroyed even in the best of outcomes and they where to win a first strike nuclear option, what would remain for them to secure? No, the future of military conflict will be proxy wars in third world countries, be it Ukraine or the middle east, perhaps even far east less developed Asian nations like we saw in Vietnam. This all seems completely over the top, but it's the result of some really hard lessons we learned from both WWI and WWII. It used to be that after a war was fought, we'd disband most of our military and not bother to activate those units again until we needed it again. The result was an unprepared fighting force with no combat experience and wildly outdated weapons. We'd show a lot of heart and determination, but that loss of experience, outdated tactics and equipment would cost us tens of thousands of American lives.
Never again. We'll spend lives if necessary but if you were in our shoes, wouldn't you want to spend the money to make sure more of your people made it back alive? Why would we risk losing tens of thousands of people just to appease the criticism of people who frankly know nothing of our history or country in general?
Besides, truth be told our military spending usually comes out to around 16% of our total national budget. I know people like to claim that it's above 50%, but they don't realize that they're referring to discretionary spending, what Congress votes on. The vast majority of our national budget is considered mandatory spending, which automatically gets spent because it's things people rely on like Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid.
On top of all that, we're a counter to bad actors on the world stage. Nowadays it's China and Russia and frankly both nations have proven that if it weren't for us, they'd both be invading other nations and we all know what that leads to. We have to be prepared to fight both at the same time, with or without allies because again, it means more Americans not coming home if we don't.
We're not perfect, we don't always get it right and we can be outright malicious at times, but at the end of the day, we really are the less of two evils by a long shot. For the most part, we do leave the rest of the world alone and we're allied with countries all over the globe. Wars and conflicts still happen, but they are just a fraction of the destruction and death that used to occur.

As a matter of fact, she was saying that the China's most advanced sub is very, very loud in the water. There are a few jets that can do mach 3, but they can't sustain it. The Blackbird could sustain mach 3 indefinitely, with fueling. By the time a SAM got a lock and fired, the Blackbird was already getting out of range. It didn't even have good stealth. It was just super fast and super high. It was in a place that nothing could touch.
The F-117 Nighthawk was still 10 square meters on radar. Meanwhile, the F-22 Raptor is 0.0001 square meters on radar at nearly 42 tons. About the size of a bumblebee or a marble. Yep. We do that.
