      Those 5 bases only service enough subs to make Washington something like the 3rd largest nuclear power if it was independent. Seems weak to me.

Missiles is a pretty generic term, very few countries has “missiles” capable of reaching US soil and in the event a ICBM that is capable of reaching US was launched, the US navy has ships with missiles with the sole purpose of knocking ICBMs out of the sky. Meaning that ICBM wouldn’t ever reach US soil. Regardless all of this is null as I can’t think of a single country including the US that would use any kind of nuclear icbm. Nuclear weapons in current day are used as a show of force/deterrent aka an agreement with any other country that if you launch, we launch and then no one wins. If a war broke out against US and any other super power we’d see a lot of weapons being used but none of them would attempt to use nuclear weapons again.

    Let's put it this way: The last nation to invade the USA was Japan, and we dropped small suns on two of their cities, then occupied them, deconstructed their government and remade it in our image. Now, in the modern day, there is no way such a war would happen. Not only could the US just decimate any nation to attack it, but the treaty obligations of NATO would kick in, and basically half the planet would attack the potential invaders' homeland while their ships were desperately trying to make landfall in the USA. This is also discounting the fact that the US has enough nuclear weapons to back down any other nuclear power, never mind a non-nuclear threat, which would face total obliteration with no chance of retaliating. Whether for good or bad, human warmaking capabilities have developed to the point where great powers, and the sole superpower, no longer have the option of large ground or sea-based invasions of each other (ie. WWII couldn't happen again today). Of course, the positive side of this is that large wars of attrition aren't killing millions, but the negative is that a large-scale war could result in the destruction of the planet.

    • @thesarcasticliberal
      @thesarcasticliberal 3 роки тому +2

      @@southfieldtrill9690 Yes, but any nation to invade the US would face an immediate counter-invasion, largely to disrupt their supply lines and cripple their ability to build additional munitions and vehicles to sustain their invasion (eg. when Allies and the Axis bombed each others' factories to disrupt their war machine). We could do this using what is now the forward-deployed carrier fleets in the Pacific and our nuclear submarines. If the invader loses the ability to supply their troops and replace any lost vehicles, it becomes a war of attrition that they can't easily win without a decisive action (which they can't get against the US).

    As for an enemy taking out things like communications, I have family pretty high up in the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Air Force, with one running a major part of communications, and he and his crew are flown all over the U.S. and to places in many other countries to make sure certain communication networks are up to date and working properly, and every place they go has off-grid communications that can and are used to communicate to other military bases all over the world. So even if the main grid were taken down they can all still communicate just fine. Certain things are located underground and in places away from the bases, and it takes a helicopter ride or a nice hike to get to them.
    Also, the comment made about Texas being ready, truth is, just about every state has a lot of armed citizens like Texas does, but a lot of people say things about Texas and their armed citizens because it's kinda become like a meme because they're more vocal about being armed where most citizens in other states are not. I was born and raised here in Florida, and I don't believe I know anyone that isn't armed with a few different firearms, and I know a lot of people. Our gun club has over 1500 members and we have firearms ranging from .22s to full-auto 50 Cals. It's a blast to cut an old vehicle in half with one of the full-auto 50 Cals. lol. Even if Venezuela offered a resupply port, the Iranian Navy is a small coastal navy with no appreciable deep water experience. It doesn't have the legs for that kind of journey. There was a board game in the 80's called Fortress America by Milton Bradley based on this concept. One player was America and up to 3 other players were attacking from 3 sides and it almost always ended with the American player winning. Keep in mind it was the 80's and it was made in America, unlikely they'd balance it the other way in the midst of the cold war even if it were possible.

About 42% of US households do own guns, so if you take away the people who are under 18 and then you calculate about 42% of the rest of the 245 million adult citizens it comes out to about 103 million. So more like 750,000,000 - 1,000,000,000 firearms and trillions of rounds of ammunition! That's also the why gun control or confiscation is very unlikely to happen in the US. Having that many firearms and that much ammo. We don't have a gun problem or we would all be dead by the tens of millions a year which does not happen. If you remember Swayze whose most iconic roles were in "Dirty Dancing" "Road House" and "Ghost." One of his co-stars in the above movie Jennifer Grey played opposite him in "Dirty Dancing." C. Thomas Howell's career peak I would suppose was when he was a teenager and featured in the movie "The Outsiders". He was also in "Soul Man" in which he wore dark makeup and pretended to be a black male to get take advantage of affirmative action to get a scholarship at an Ivy League university. It's a movie that I doubt could get made today. His co-star in that movie Rae Dawn Chong would later become his wife. The villainous protagonists were a Cuban military officer and a Russian officer who were respectively played by Ron O'Neal mostly known as "Superfly" from the blaxploitation days and William Smith of the old "Laredo" tv show with Peter Brown and Neville Brand wherein they played Texas Rangers in the old west. Smith was a bodybuilder type who made numerous B movies. He ironically enough may well have become one of those intelligence agents you referenced because he was fluent in Russian and spoke it in the movie "Red Dawn."
    He served in the United States Air Force. He won the 200-pound (91 kg) arm-wrestling championship of the world multiple times and also won the United States Air Force weightlifting championship. A lifelong bodybuilder, Smith was a record holder for reverse-curling his own body weight. His trademark arms measured as much as 19+1⁄2 inches. Smith held a 31-1 record as an amateur boxer. During the Korean War, he was a Russian Intercept
    Interrogator and flew secret ferret missions over the Russian SFSR. He had both CIA and NSA clearance (I myself had a NSA Clearance and worked there as a member of the US Army Security Agency after my return from Southeast Asia in the early seventies). Smith intended to enter a classified position with the U.S. government, but while he was working on his doctorate studies he landed an acting contract with MGM. You might remember him as playing Clint Eastwood's rival in the silly movie costarring an Orangutang "Any Which Way You Can." He was an academic as well who taught at UCLA. If you've ever seen the movie "Darker Than Amber" starring Rod Taylor as the Private Eye Phillip Marlow you may see him and Taylor in an actual fight. Smith appeared as heavy Terry Bartell in the 1970 movie. In the fistfight scene that ends the film, Rod Taylor hit Smith (who was playing the villain) who retaliated in kind, and a staged fight scene became a real fight as the cameras continued to roll. Smith later reported that Taylor was "a very tough guy" who broke three of his ribs while he broke Taylor's nose

    For a large portion of our population, a land invasion would be classified as 'target practice' and there are quite a few civilians that have 'retired' military-class weapons and are just itching for a good reason to shoot them.
    Furthermore, the vast majority of us are armed. While our civilian casualties would be high, as most houses and buildings aren't designed to withstand bullets, I know that this old, crippled SOB would gladly lay my life down to protect my country (and yes, I'm armed), and I bet the majority of us feel the same.
    TL;DR: In any land war on US soil, ignore the civilians at your own peril.

    Even if a country could get a standing army on U.S soil, there is at least 1 gun for every U.S citizen owned privately. Just like Red Dawn, any invading force would eventually be repelled.

      Those guns aren't owned by every U.S. citizen. They would also be useless in the hands of amateur enthusiasts against an actual trained military.

    What was not mentioned in that video was the outrageous number of fire arms we Americans own privately, along with an almost endless supply of bullets, surplus bombs and the relentless will to never be ruled over again.
