Great review, I follow your expertise because it not only fits my modeling interest the kit comparisons are extremely valuable. I do like the D version as that's how it got the " Razorback " Nick name, plus Gabresky was quite successful while flying the 47. The Razorback had the blind spot so Republic borrowed the concept of the bubble top from the British Hawker Typhoon I seldom let a personal experience impact the models I build, but the P47 was responsible for a friendly fire incident that affected a family member, I shouldn't let that prejudice interfere with collecting a unique aircraft. I'm working on it.
Thanks for the kit preview. As always, the box art is top notch. The kit looks like an easy build. Hope you can show the end results on this one. I maybe off point a little, but there was great old movie made about an operational fighter group using P 47's. It really got my attention. As reference to build a P 47.
Right on! I've seen the movie you're talking about (I think). There were lots of great shots of the actual aircraft before, during, and after the missions. I think it's just called "Thunderbolt". 🤔

Haven’t built a “JUG” but I did eyeball this kit at model show recently. Wish I grabbed it she looks like a straight forward Hasegawa build! Another great review Jon thanks!

Good review Jon! I think the yellowing of the white on the decal sheet is more attributed to the age of those decals (1998?) than to printing ink color choice.
Surprisingly, it isn't. I was around when these came out, and the cream-color instead of white got lots of negative comments in reviews. I've also had lots of difficulty with Tamiya decals from this time period. So it's a toss-up decal wise between the kits. Cheers!
You're right@@jonsmodelkitreview4624 ! I was just looking at some 1/48 Hasegawa Stuka decals from 2012 and the white part of the crosses and stencils have the cream color. Strange choice by Hasegawa I would say.
Hello Jon, what a good video, this review has helped me a lot, I have the P47 D (JT40) in my stash, although it is not a razorback, they follow the same philosophy, I also have the Tamiya, as you have put in the video, it should be better, however everything will be seen in the assembly, I have not yet wanted to start one, and I even have a Hobbyboss P47 N with the Gabresky version, I will dare to build one of them, just as previous experience I built the Academy P47 N I can say that there was no problem in the assembly, the fit was perfect, in fact almost no putty, so under the review of your video I see with optimism a future assembly of my P47 D Hasegawa, waiting for the next video, greetings.
Thanks Francisco! There are some interesting paint schemes available for the P-47, but I've only built one as an adult (you will see it in the next video). I guess the P-47 just isn't as pretty as the Spitfire or P-51, and doesn't get as much attention (from me). I ordered canopy masks for this Hasegawa P-47 this week, so maybe that will fuel a completion of the build... we'll see. Cheers!

@@terencewong-lane4309 I don't doubt there are differences. When looking at accuracy issues, I like to look at the original (the P-47 in this case) instead of another interpretation of the original. Either way, the Hasegawa kit builds into a nice-looking representation of the P-47. As I said in the review, the Tamiya kit is currently regarded as the best P-47 kit overall. Cheers!
One word about the decals that came in this kit. U.S. national insignia in WWII was insignia white, insignia blue, and for a short while, some outlining in insignia red. These are distinct colours that differ from generic blue, white and red and accordingly not are pure. Insignia white is a distinctly bluish-green tinted white. Accordingly, these decals may be more accurate than you think.
A comparison between the Hasegawa vs Tamiya 1/48 P-47D "razorback" about fit and general appearance should be interesting and appreciated.
I agree. However, I don't have the Tamiya P-47 in the stash currently. I will do a future review/comparison if I pick up the Tamiya P-47. Cheers!

Didn't you find that the Hasegawa kit's fuselage isn't deep enough to represent the P-47D accurately in 1/48?

Just received the Dora Wings 1/48 P-47B. It is pretty much the equal of the Tamiya kit.
