Embarking on a German Sailing Extravaganza with the Hanse 510
Welcome back, intrepid seafarers, to another episode of Naval Gazing at Camp David! Strap on your life vests and fill your glasses - we're off to Northwest Germany to uncover the mysteries of the Hanse 510, a yacht that's causing ripples of excitement across the monohull realm.
    Today's Nautical Agenda:
    1. Specs Inspection: We pit the Hanse 510 against its maritime rivals, examining every detail from mast to keel.
    2. Sylvia's Insights: Our beloved mermaid Sylvia gives her seasoned take on this German marvel.
    3. Ease at Sea: We delve into the tech that's smoothing the sailing experience.
    4. Value Voyage: A treasure hunt in the used yacht market.
    5. The Dave Score: Our rigorous review system meets the Hanse 510.
    6.
Let's navigate through this ocean of information with a side of cultural indulgence, pairing our yacht insights with the region's finest wine and art.
    From Vancouver to the Vineyards
Our journey starts from the skies above Vancouver, sweeping across continents to France's MODX 70 and then, to the heart of yacht craftsmanship in Germany. Our final destination: the St. Urbans-Hof Mosel Old Vines 2019 - Riesling, an embodiment of German winemaking tradition.
    A Toast to Tradition
St. Urbans-Hof Winery, a vintner's dream nestled in the Mosel region, brings us a Riesling that Wine Enthusiast describes as an "off-dry Riesling" with "sun-struck yellow peaches and nectarines," a perfect match to the innovation we find in Hanse's yachts.

    Innovative Seas: The Lazy Rack
In today's Naval Gazing Segment, we're eyeing the Lazy Rack, a genius system designed to tame the mainsail with ease, whether you're on a monohull beauty or a catamaran giant.
Artistic Waves: Oskar Kokoschka's 'Venice Dogana'
Our cultural voyage wouldn't be complete without a nod to Oskar Kokoschka, whose expressionist strokes capture the spirit of innovation and boldness that we see in the Hanse 510.
Now, dear sailors, it's your turn. Embark with us, subscribe, and set sail towards new horizons. Let the Hanse 510's allure guide you to the shores of new discoveries and let's chart the course for uncharted sailing experiences together!

You said it yourself, Dave 😅...heresy! If you can get Sylvia on a monohull, I'll eat my hat 😅

lol! You are right Richard. I had a small breakthrough last night with her. I decided to force her (guilt her lol) into looking at boats last night. Moody 64- hated the interior. Too brown and old fashioned. Amel 50. Too brown and too white at the same time (I started getting frustrated at this point). Jeanneau 60 - White oak; too light, teak; too orange. Then the question, “do these ones tilt”. At this point I take a sedative and soldier on. Balance 442 zebra wood - kind of ok. Bamboo - ick. Walnut ( New Vicious Fishes) too dark looks old fashioned. By this point not even the sedatives are helping. I try one last boat…Leopard 45. BINGO! She loves it! Writes the name down so she won’t forget it! Says this morning she is obsessing over it. We might just be making some progress here at Camp David!!

Where is that Leopard 45 sit in The Dave Score?!
I recall a now discontinued YT channel with the L45 and a newbie family from CA. Not the happy together or Aussie doctors. They had two young boys along as well.
Anyway…glad to see you are making progress. Or is it Pro-gress!?

It seems Hanse has built its first power boat called a RYCK 280. Nice walk around cuddly with a single engine, wave piercing bow, and a king size bed.

Hey Tony. Thanks for watching! Very interesting! I’ll check it out. Is it sail or motor for you? D

@@navalgazingatcampdavid I want it to be sail but I might have to settle for motor. I have my own “Sylvia” to convince. But I am going back to BVI in July with Navigare on a 50’ (sail) Lagoon.

She did not do too bad overall...😂 It's really hard to justify spending so much money for a new production boat when you can get a used cat or Bluewater mono for the same money. Unless it's for charter. Having said that, many of the used comparables state that (VAT) tax is not paid but for the new ones you do include it in that 50% so it's a bit unfair, lol

Hey Constantine. A new boat is hard to justify for mere mortals at any point lol. But if I went used I’d go waaayy back to the Moody 64. Unbelievable value, quality and luxury for less than $450k. What about you?

Hey Dave, idk my friend, lately I'm feeling very philosophical. I still have a lot of years left until the kids are independent and i can afford retirement so I don't see myself circumnavigating anything for at least 15 years (I'm 50). So what would be an ideal sailboat for me? While I love big boats, I'm intrigued by the idea of having something small enough that even if my gf or any one of my kids or my yacht club's members are not available, I can hop on it and go out by myself. I saw a 2015 Rustler 37 for sail in Seattle for under 400K. Or if I wanted something roomier I would go for good production boat like a 2016 Elan 45 i found for under $300K or a Dufour 430.

Nice but the owner's cabin- no, it would have to be the Amel 50.

Hey Alan. Thanks for watching. I agree with you! Sylvia agrees with you! But our pesky banker…now she is a different matter. lol!!!
