I looked at some of the tube specs as well at other similar videos on that tube. It is recommended only to use a 4 watt drive which makes sense seeing when these amps were built. I can pretty much vouch for this as I smoked a Palomar Skipper 1 driving 3 expensive 8950 tubes with my 99v pushing 40 watts. Hell that 700 I got out of it looked really good for those 22 seconds or so. Fortunately no tubes were harmed during this test :D
yes, the Spark Plug.worked on my radios and tube type amps for 20 plus years. he was everyones friend, and a super nice guy. also is my wifes relative.
These old D&A amps are designed to be driven with a small amount of drive.1 or 2 watts swingin to maybe 5 or 6 watts. Not too much more to not hurt anything. You can smack em,but they'll need repairs if you do.
i had the same variable capacitor for load on my raider probably factory original and some had a green christmas light mine i had is like yours a red when they made these they made different colors hammertone grey, tan, black, power light either red or green .
That's a very old D&A model because it has a keying tube. My first one had a transistor keying circuit and the stock 6JG6 tubes. I switched them to 6KV6's which are drop in's. It did about 250 watts with an old school 23 channel CB driving it.

Hello GateKeeper, oh by the way, before we get started, this is a cigarette burning not any electrical components or anything in the shop. Just wanted everybody to know that so you won't think somethings on fire : } One other tube that I know about that works just fine, is a matched set of 22JD6A cost between $5.00 and $1.50. 4 watts in - swing to about 30w and she,ll hum right along as it should and will last a lifetime. So there you go, a nice little amp does about 75w Bird and about 200w PEP if tuned properly. You have to dial these in to max output then back off a tad. Excellent little amp for talking local without putting others under the bus. Also I recommend a low pass filter cause these things tend to be a little dirty. The amp does run very hot so I would recommend 2- 4" fans on top as an exhaust system, and see if you can find the quiet fans.Thats about it folks so enjoy until we do it again, this is UNIT 229 IRON EAGLE Clearwater Florida As you can tell I really like the old D&A's. 73's to you and yours. Hey 1883 big bro I seen a few videos of u working on radios and u said its not really ur thing just a thought but how about a gatekeeper built ( moded ) 2sc2879 final hot radio built by you peek tuned and modes gone crazy I'd buy it for the right price and sence u got the amp building down I think its sweet keep the mobile rocking my friend pyro 138 mobile central Iowa 73's
This will come in handy when I convert my raider. I’ve stockpiled 6jg6, 6jr6, and 6jt6a tubes for this and the driver for my maverick 250.

Love tube amps. I've ran a Knight T-175 since 1968, changed tubes once but didn't need it. Just replaced the 6lq6's with the heavier 6mj6's.

I used to run one behind a Regency Range gain II. Worked awesome! It drove it perfectly not too much more than 2 or 3 watts and swing to 10.

on these d&a amps that shift breaks off. i wished they made a compatible cap with a healthier shaft. i have the two tube version hornet.
