Back in the mid-late '70's, I had both a D&A Warrior and Phantom at different times (both older grey case, single-band). I had the Warrior first. It was flaky, unstable, and would eat final tubes for lunch. In the year-or-so that I had the Warrior, it flashed a tube and blew the fuse at least 3 times. That was with only 3.5-4 watts on AM or 12 watts PEP on SSB! In every case, I bought a full set of finals and spent several hundred dollars, only to have it do it again. I sold the Warrior and bought a Phantom (I think it was 12-tube 4 driving 8, or it may have been 10-tube 4 driving 6, I don't remember), and it worked perfectly. Rock solid and super clean (as long as I didn't drive it with more than about 3.5 to 4 watts on AM, 12 watts peak on SSB). I loved that Phantom and wish I had never sold it. What a great piece of iron! Those were the days!
In the 1970s I can remember seeing lots of ads for mail in electronic courses in magazines. One of the schools mentioned the owner of D&A was a student and showed one of the amplifiers.
I'm have a Warrior amp I use to date. I run a Galaxy DX 2517 and works perfectly. I currently get 1500 watts out of it. It is in the same cond as yours I love the amp.
I made a power supply out of a Phantom 500 case using 4 transformers (same as the Warrior) but for a Maco Kw. I might sell it if the price is right. Also, I might be interested in buying the warrior you have if the price is right lol ua-cam.com/video/Kw-UWX0cjbY/v-deo.html
It all looks original to me DNA wrapped all their capacitors like that with the brown tape really looks real nice inside and out I wouldn't be a bit for you to power it up on the old caps I would test and see if any of them was shorted Good luck with it
I've only ever seen one in person. A now SK local had one in the early 90s. The one he had had weak tubes so it never did full output.... And yes they are very rare.
My Brother Had One And He Has Passed away I Am not Sure If It is Sitting In The Storage Building Or Not . I am 1200 Miles from There . That Thing is a Tube farm Tho .
You wouldn't run into the issue of over-driving these CB amps if you made a very simple swamping network. Either that, or you could just bypass the driving tubes and drive the final directly with an export radio. Add some switching, and you could have the best of all worlds.
I'm a DNA man I have some old DNAs for sale or 12 tube and a 10 tube I got out of CB business due to a house fire an old tires ready to fall down I'll talk since the '70s if anybody's interested but I love the DNA amplifiers I learn how to work on them myself I have a good b&k tube tester and a bunch of extra 6L q sixes but I've only seen four DNA warriors in my life and I've always wanted one but not everyone I ever seen was tore up except maybe one or two but I never did have one but I've own at least 10 different DNAs from River Maverick to ever find them like my DNAs
@@Rooster_Radio is there a power difference by converting to the 24lq6 tube ? I have a Maverick 250, havent powered it up so not sure if it will need anything, just looking for info. thanks, Sam.
@@sammaloney2499 No power difference. The 24LQ6 is the same as the 6LQ6 except the 24LQ6 has 24v heaters. The first number generally indicates the heater voltage. So to change from one tube to the other you just change the heater voltage. As an example I have a 10 tube phantom that is capable of use as a tuned input/output amp on 40,20,15, and 10M on ham radio. I got it with the bank of 6 tubes removed and only the driver bank of 4 6LQ6's in it. I set it up to run those tubes for a friend and it did about 250 watts out. I got it back from him after he got bored with it and I ran across 7 new 24LQ6's of which 6 are matched and new in the box. I ordered a 24v transformer capable of supplying the amperage to run the heaters so I plan on using that transformer to provide the heater voltage to run those 6 tubes and install them in that phantom and run it along with the bank of 4- 6LQ6's driving those 6 with 250 watts on 40 and 20m ham bands. I have a little QRP radio I can drive it with and get atleast 500 to 800 out.
@@Rooster_RadioNext one you happen across that clean it would be worth it to pull all the tubes and plug it in and slowly ramp it up on a variac. I used to work on those, mostly Phantoms and Mavericks. They are easy to fix. I got one that was unlucky enough to have been left in a horse barn on the ground. I cleaned it up and re-capped and replaced the diodes and the high voltage choke as well. The old ceramic choke had been broken in two. I took a heavy ceramic form approximately the same diameter and wound a new choke and tested it to have spec to block the RF from feeding back into the HV power but it would pass the HV just fine to the tubes. After cleaning it up and scraping horse manure off and fixing it I managed to get around 800 to 900 out on peaks. I fed it into a 1000 watt 50 ohm dummy load and used a RF ampmeter I built and measured voltage, amperage and resistance and used ohms law to calculate power out. I didn't need no stinkin bird lol.😂 Theres more than one way to skin a cat.
@@Rooster_Radio I wish that I had seen this when it came up. I would have driven down from Ohio. This was my dream amp back in the day along with a Browning Golden Eagle for the radio. Thanks for the reply.
This amplifier is sold. The Gentleman is set to pick this amp up in June, thankyou all

16 power tubes not 20. My mistake. It was too early this morning

Just have to be careful, very drive sensitive
I run it at 1/2 watt. Have owned it for four years and runs perfect SWR 1.1. If I were to eventually sell it what could I expect to ask for it.
@@dalerhodes6233 I wouldn't take less than 1000 for a good working one, but I suppose you could see up to 1500 to the right buyer
I have one of these but missing the power supply... if you ever see one I would like to buy it !! Nice video.

I’ve got 3 of the Warriors and 1 black and white Warrior 2. All are in use and love them all.
I had a phantom 500, Great amp on a moonraker 4. Hehe... talked around the world and to my neighbors toaster.

Don't have to wish me luck. This video was 3 years ago. It found a new owner that refurbished it.
God , this thing is a time capsule. Beautiful👍
I am a buyer for a linear 800/1200 out put what do you have sir?
Even though it's dusty , that's still a very nice amp , yes their rare !
My twelve tube keys at 800 that was years ago, I don't know the condition of the tubes then...I still have it..,.1.2swr
Pending sold until Tuesday 4-28-2020. Money order being sent.
I can't wait to get mine going!
Warrior is a 12 tube Phantom driven by a 4 tube Maverick
The 4 baldies would be more similar to raider I believe.

I had a DNA phantom years ago
4x4x8 not 4x12 - look at the B+.

I just picked one up, its 4 driving 4 driving 8. Very easy to overdrive.
Its a 4 tube maverick driving a 12 tube phantom. I have three phantoms and a maverick. I used to repair these amps for work.

good morning what are you asking for it
Dude ya dont see those things very often --- Plug it in Dude --- LOL--- Be safe
Nice, looks all original.
The price to re tube that bad boy. Ouch. A exclient example of a nice one.
if using 6lq6 yes, but if converted to 24 lq6 or 31 you're looking at $20 each or so

Came with that tape, 👍.
Rooster sell me a nice 400 watt base amp, send it to the Netherlands.
Great find rooster
big bucks to put new tubes in it
Buddy that's my Ole linear
I've got serious doubts it's this exact one, considering where it came from
Bring it up with a variac.
Long gone
