You can also use 6KV6's for the driver tubes and 6MJ6's for the finals if you can find them. Both are heavy duty versions of the tubes you listed. I had one of these about 50 years ago. Also had the Phantom, it's big brother.
IIRC, the 6AQ5 is the tube that operates the keying circuit. From the manual, that's a post-1974 amp because that's when the radio power limits were changed from 5 watts input on AM/15 watts input PEP on SSB to the current 4 watts output on AM/12 watts output on SSB. These were quite popular before 1972 because the most popular antennas could handle the power output. The CLR2 was rated for 300 watts and the Super Magnum was rated for 350 watts. If you wanted to run a Phantom, Skipper 300, or bigger you needed a beam, Mosley Devant, or the Astro Plane. That changed when the Penetrator and Starduster were introduced in 1972.
This is the best video for this amp I have seen on yt. Would this be the same tuning sequence for the newer brown face Maverick dual power amp that came just after the grey? Also did you set the swr calibrate while the amp was keyed up? Again, thanks for sharing all this great info' about these fine amplifiers! 73 160 MI. ✌
The tuning sequence should be the same for all Mavericks as well as other tube linears. Always set your SWR calibration keyed up. You will have to reset calibration if you turn the amp off and run your radio standalone.
I have one of these but is says thunderbird 350?(looks like homemade stickers) but looks just like this 250 u have here in video showed n learned a lot I am most grateful some more information on this particular model (serial no. DPM-51077) I turned the dials or knobs wen I ran it just a lil bit idk what I was doing and if my meters waz correct was doing about 900watts most I seen was 1200 so I cruise on 900 b gladly to share pictures and any video of this box if I can learn a little more again thank you for this video you done really showed me how to tune the box 💯
I just acquired one of these. I really don’t know much about it. All the tubes light up. That’s about all I know. Any chance you could provide any docs on this thing?
Back in the cb days I had one worked great till I accidentally had to many beers one night and drove about 150 watts into her. She wasn’t happy about that at all.
Nice description. I had a Maverick about 50 years ago. Good amp. 👍

Awesome output, be sure you are not driving the amp too hard with your radio ;)

Do you have any amplifiers for sale now?

They're not getting power or are dead
