Eluveitie is the only band that lets you headbang to a f*cking flute. :D - Also a fantastic liveband, seen them live multiple times. They are insane talentet, some of the bandmembers are multi instrumentalists. Chrigel, the male singer plays the Mandola, the tinwhistle and some other wind instruments. Mateo, the guy with the flute also plays backpipes and Ullean pipes, also the celtic drums. Nicole, who plays the violin also plays the Chello and Fabienne, the female singer plays the celtic harp. 😂😂😂 I don't know which was more fun...the video or watching you react to it. "Throw me in coach"...priceless!! It's always a joy to watch you having such a good time finding new music. Keep up the good work princess.
Great reaction! You might definitely want to check out Cellar Darling. 3 ex members of Elveuite. You will love the female singer who also plays the hurdy gurdy.
I've seen them live in Montréal many years ago.... before Fabi became the female signer. First time I've seen a spinning pit the entire width of the venue. That was sick!
If it was my post that made you do this reaction (I did mention it but maybe someone else did too) then it makes me very happy. Actually doesn't matter it was just everything I wanted from it 😂 you are my favourite reactor; I thought you would like it but not even I would have thought how much fun you would have 😁 great great reaction. A little bit of context about the band: I would agree that they are all musical nerds, I think all play multiple instruments. But don't quote me on that 😅 They are definitely great live, her singing is great but as someone pointed out mixing all the different instruments must be a nightmare and some just didn't come through in the mix. I would say the singer's flute and the other singer's harp wasn't audible most of the time. I would love to recommend more songs of them and there are great ones but none that mix all the instruments that well. At least none with a video to watch. And last but not least about the hurdy gurdy, I don't know a lot about it but as far as I got it her playing here is very special in that she is "tremolo cranking" it, which brings out this really awesome eery sound. I would love her to use this more often but as far as I remember their discography it doesn't happen too often. Nevertheless aside from reactions if you like versatile folk metal (they have calmer songs and everything in between) you can just listen to any song randomly and you will probably like it.
I’ve been raving about this band to friends for weeks now. Lol. I was actually so upset that I had never heard of them before so thank you (and everyone else who did) for suggesting this band!
That was fun! Both the music and your reaction! Big shout out to the sound engineer, quite a job to balance all that and keep every instrument audible. The hurdy-gurdy features pretty heavily in all the music of Faun too - well worth a watch and listen - German Pagan folk-rock. So much music - so little time . . .
Welcome to the wonderful world of Celtic Metal and Eluveitie. It has quickly become one of my favorite bands. There are many songs to recommend, but start with "Aidus", probably my favorite. You don’t hear every day the sound of Celtic carnyx!
I I may, I’d recommend to other great bands you probably don’t know. They’re not metal bu what is called neo pagan folk. One is Faun. They did a great collaboration with Eluveitie called "Gwydion". The other is Wardruna. Einar Selvik, the singer, worked on songs for the series Vikings. Particularly recommended is "Helvegen, featuring Aurora".
This was so much fun to watch you nerd out here. You should check out Cellar Darling sometime; former members of this awesome band, though going in a more prog direction. They also use a hurdy-gurdy and flute. It's been a minute since I've heard much about them, so I wonder what they are up to? Hmmm. If you like the female vocalist here, Fabienne Emi, her other band, Illumishade, is also worth a listen. Also, I'm right along with everyone who mentioned Patty Gurdy. She's delightful, pretty, but more importantly, she has a lovely voice and plays a mean hurdy-gurdy.
It's probably the 5th time I've revisited this reaction, not because I love this song, which I do, but because of your genuine and infectious delight in discovering this music. It's a beautiful thing to behold. 🤘
Damn another song that would be awesome for me if it just didn't have teh demon voice stuff. But I love the look on NittPiccs face when flutes and stuff come in lol
They have also some great songs with only clean vocals (The Call Of The Mountains ua-cam.com/video/-w2m-TeLi6I/v-deo.html) or just trace amounts of growling (Ambiramus ua-cam.com/video/hFa2M1QW6UI/v-deo.html). I learned to accept the use of harsh vocals, but still definitely prefer cleans.
You might try the folk rock bands like dArtagnan and Schandmaul. They're a bit more acoustic and no guttturals... But give Eluveitie a chance to convert you to the harsh vocals!
I think I've been watching people react to stuff for more than 5 years, and i don't recall ever commenting on a video, even though a lot were pleasant. It has nothing to do with the fact that i really like Eluveitie, it's your enthusiasm, it's very contagious without being overdone. Thank you for sharing your first listen of this band, always cool to witness the first "shock"
Hi NittPicc, I don't think it was my comment on the Unlucky Morpheus video that caught your attention, but no matter, Eluveitie is here, that's the main thing! As to "Throw me in, coach", two of the band members you see here were recruited of UA-cam doing Eluveitie covers, Matteo the fife player and Michalina the hurdy-gurdy player. She has since moved on to her own band Lyre. Matteo also plays the bagpipes. The band has be around for 22 years, there's a lot of material (and line-up changes) but if you liked this one, fallowing up with Aidus is probably perfect. The female vocalist, Fabienne and Wolf the guitarist have a side project called Illumishade, their new album is well worth a look, singles like Hymn and Elegy, as well as a colab between Faun and Eluveitie calle Gwydion. Already rambled on too long, but if you want links, just say gimme! 😁😁🤘
Eluveitie are a highly popular Celtic themed folk metal band from Switzerland, founded in 2002 by Chrigel Glanzmann (harsh vocals), their name is derived from the Helvetii tribe. a Celtic speaking tribe in what is now Switzerland. They are influenced by the traditional music styles of Ireland, Britany and Scotland and have adapted various traditional tunes from those regions into their music (mostly Irish and Breton, which I have been trying to catalogue). As another commenter stated, several of the members are multi-instrumentalists, Chrigel plays tin and low whistles (the "fifes" you mentioned), mandolin, mandola. Bodhrán (Irish drum), harp, and various bagpipes notably Galician, Uillean, and a German Shephard pipe I believe. Matteo also plays whistles and bagpipes, he also plays mandola and Bodhrán Fabienne (female vox) can play a few instruments herself but mostly plays harp and I believe at some point in their tours, blew on a Carnyx (ancient Celtic trumpet) I'll add that this song uses two Irish songs in it. The Chorus is "I am Stretched on Your Grave" and the whistle section before the guitar solos was "Lads of Laois"
Okay, It's 4am and I just found this video, and I had to stop it at 8 minutes in because I couldn't stop laughing and I'm trying not to wake my wife sleeping behind me at the same time. The raw emotion you have when you can literally see it in your eyes the moment that your mind is blown. I've been listening to these guys since like 2009 and then went back and listened to some of the older stuff they had released and have been listening and watching the videos ever since. It has been awesome sitting in the background listening to them grow as a group musically. I do recommend you do the same. You however, have found a new subscriber for sure, your reactions are just so pure, and that is rare. I honestly recommend "Inis Mona".
Yes. This was fun. Here are some other recommendations from european folk metal scene: Dalriada - Búsirató (Farewell letter) Kosmogonia - Raven's Call Lunatic Gods - O sekere, čo slabosť hľadala (Of an axe, who searched for a weakness) Metsatöll - Vaid Vaprust (Only Bravery) Silent Stream Of Godless Elegy - Synečku (Little son)
greetings from Switzerland 🇨🇭. Eluveitie is one of our best metal representatives. there is more than banks, chocolate and watches. 😆 ... we're not that boring as everyone thinks. 😉 I like that you're so fascinated. keep on with your cool reactions.
One job I would NEVER accept: being the live sound guy for a band like Eluveitie... just the idea of having to balance all those unconventional (in rock/metal) instruments makes my head explode 🤣
I prefer the older Eluveitie era with vocalist Anna Murphy (2006 - 2016). Not knocking the newer offerings. Simply personal preference. Another fun band in this genre is Feuerschwanz. They are a German Medieval Rock/Metal band that doesn't take themselves too seriously and really seems to have fun with their original music and covers. A hilarious introduction to them is their cover of the song "Ding" with guest vocalist Melissa Bonny from Ad Infinitum. Definitely worth checking out!! Also, as I've become accustomed to in the short time following your channel, your band reactions are awesome!! Keep up the good work!
Assuming it hasn't been done already, I'm gonna find a way to integrate the oboe into metal. ;) As for as more Eluveitie, I'll throw in "Ambiramus," "Artio," and "Epona" to the pool of suggestions.
After watching your "Return from Broken Ribs" video, and I found this. I am so confused... I thought I watched and commented on it when it came out. - but no. This reminds me of what I WANTED the music to sound like when played a little trad-Irish on the guitar. Aggressive, charging forward, open to some freelance soloing. I had a brief time to play with a couple members of the Bothy Band in an Irish Open Jam in Portland in the earliest 80's. (Kevin Burke and Michael ODomhnaill) To me, that was the pinnacle of my playing-out days. Eluveitie takes that drive and aggression and kicks it up 10 notches. So glad you found this. Good thing you saw this before you broke that rib... you coulda punctured a lung on this one.
Great reaction! Eluveitie is phenomenal live too! For more metal hurdy gurdy, check out Patty Gurdy. Her collabs with Alestorm and Scardust are great. The violin player from the band Feuerschwanz, Stephanie, also plays the hurdy gurdy on a few tracks, Warriors of the World is a great example. For more metal boukouzi, check out League of Distortion. Their track Wolf or Lamb is a banger!
I have been enjoying a bunch of your reactions lately, such as this. Hope you keep this up! I also appreciate all the knowledge of all these instruments in various videos.
The cool thing about this band and wagakki band is that it proves That great sounding music can be made using ancient instruments not just modern instruments. I like the hurdy Gurdy sound and a woman Patty Gurdy make some really cool music. If you want in on this band, Look at the past members the have a revolving door in this band.
I really enjoyed your review! Eluveitie is one of my favorite bands of all times! Indeed, there is nobody else like them, especially since they sometimes sing in Gaulish, an extinct language. BTW, I'm pretty sure those were tin whistles in the song/video, not fifes. Other artists and bands that use the hurdy gurdy are Faun, Garmarna, Harpyie, Lyrre, Patty Gurdy, Storm Seeker, Subway to Sally, and Tempus.
These guys are good. I actually found them in my recommendations from watching a Gulheim Desq video. "Omen" Where he uses his Hurdy Gurdy and a loop pedal to make a killer song.
Hi again, just a friendly reminder...😊😊😊 " FAUN ft. ELUVEITIE - GWYDION", German pagan folk meets Swiss folk metal, truly a masterpiece of music in my opinion... Stay safe and greetz from GER
Welcome to folk metal. If you're looking for more bands , I'd recommend the Estonian band Metsatöll and the Togolese band Arka'n Asrafokor. That and folk metal in general.
For Metsatöll I'd recommend either Kajakaldad or Muhu Oud as both are great live recordings. For Arka'n Asrafokor, I'd recommend Walk with us as it's the first one they've put out with a bigger label backing them.
Or if you're looking for something tied to Eluveitie then there is always Cellar Darling, a more prog metal band made up of the former guitarist, drummer, and hurdy gurdy player/vocalist.
That face of pure joy was awesome :D Bloodywood - Aaj has some nice flute in it, maybe check that one out sometime ;) (indian folk metal) otherwise more Eluveitie always works ;D
I'll second the recommendation for some Patty Gurdy, but I'll go a different direction and suggest you check out Alestorm and Patty Gurdy's Voyage of the Dead Marauder. And then you can go down the Alestorm rabbit hole as well!
I thought the Bouzouki and the mandolin were the same instrument but I guess the Bouzouki have a longer scale length and are an octave lower which is basically the same range are a Mandocello.
Eeeyy, Eluveitie, I haven't listened to them in a while, I love this song! If you want more hurdy gurdy going hard, take a look at this: ua-cam.com/video/MtvpXr9O0J4/v-deo.html And you don't have to be a woman to think it's cool with women in rock and heavy metal. Granted, I don't really care much about gender, I try to see the human being first, but I have to admit, it IS awesome to see women do this kind of music, because I like it when people take the old fashioned and outdated gender roles, and rip them a new one. If I remember it correctly, Dany from The Warning once said that the gender of the people on stage doesn't matter, what matters is having fun, or something along those lines. Wise beyond her years for sure, just like her sisters.
Has anyone told you that India has metal bands? Yes, India. Look up Bloodywood. They are an Indian folk metal band and they sing in both Hindi and English. And their guitarist also plays the flute, or I guess it's more of a fife. Look for their song, Aaj (Today) to hear his fife playing chops. They're awesome and will blow you away.
Hey NittPicc, I just wanted to say that I absolutely love your reactions. They are very genuine, entertaining and informative. You have an infectious energy that I love. And I'm a sucker for seeing you geek out when you see (or hear) something that you love. I'm still binging your older reactions but I decided that it was worth to stop for a moment and throw you a suggestion for a metal band that heavily uses violin (not sure if it was suggested to you yet). They are Ne Obliviscaris from Australia and the song I suggest you start with is "And Plague Flowers the Kaleidoscope" (ua-cam.com/video/rNuVdsx7qJY/v-deo.html). Keep up the wonderful videos and I hope some day you have the time to check out my suggestion. I think you'll enjoy it.
Well done for your reaction and thank you. My favorite band is Eluveitie (singer Fabienne Erni) who mixes celtic folk and heavy metal extremely well. I invite you to watch their video: 1. The growly shout singing just doesn't do it for me, makes just about every song with it unlistenable for me, sadly. I know it is a singing skill that is not simple to master without destroying your vocal cords, but it's an auditory experience I don't need in my life.
If you could visit anywhere in the world, where would you go?
Australia and Singapore are on my bucket list.
Definitely Japan
Anywhere where spiders dont exist :). Ireland maybe.
Japan, South Korea and the Azores islands are my top 3 that I want to visit.
Japan is on my bucket list for quite long time now !

It's not a fife, but a tin whistle. The low one has such a nice tone! And way easier to play because I can't do the embuchure well.
Alina Gingertail - A Rose for Epona (the best acoustic cover from Eluveitie)
The song Aidus MUST be your next from Eluveitie. The video clip is pure gold and the music is even better.... hard to believe but it is. Enjoy! ;-)
I realized after editing that I said fife. I cringed at myself so hard. I even own 3 tin whistles! Ugh. This band is insanely cool!
Another song that you should listen from them that I believe you would really enjoy is called havoc.
These guys are good. I actually found them in my recommendations from watching a Gulheim Desq video. "Omen" Where he uses his Hurdy Gurdy and a loop pedal to make a killer song.
More Eluveitie videos pretty please
For more headbanging to a flute tune check Bloodywood - Aaj
Go off girl and find your new favorite band!
❤❤❤
YOUR NEED A MOMENT FOR FLUTE AND GURDY! 🤣🤣🤣
I LOVE YOU SO MUCH FOR LOVING THE GURD' 🤣🤣🤣
We need to be friends RIGHT FUCKING MEOW.
Hi again, just a friendly reminder...😊😊😊
" FAUN ft.
Or if you're looking for something tied to Eluveitie then there is always Cellar Darling, a more prog metal band made up of the former guitarist, drummer, and hurdy gurdy player/vocalist.
a rose for epona is a good song too
THAT is a reaction. THANK YOU, like so, so much.
Welcome to folk metal
Chrigel does death metal gutturals. Very old school style, the only guy that does them more understandably is Johan from Amon Amarth.
Welcome to folk metal ^^
That face of pure joy was awesome :D
Bloodywood - Aaj has some nice flute in it, maybe check that one out sometime ;) (indian folk metal)
otherwise more Eluveitie always works ;D
WE HAD TWO FUCKING FIFES
WELCOME TO FOLK METAL, MY LOVE! ❤😂
I'll second the recommendation for some Patty Gurdy, but I'll go a different direction and suggest you check out Alestorm and Patty Gurdy's Voyage of the Dead Marauder. And then you can go down the Alestorm rabbit hole as well!
Great reaction! ❤ You should react to King, Quoth The Raven, Ategnatos or Call Of The Mountains by them next.
I thought the Bouzouki and the mandolin were the same instrument but I guess the Bouzouki have a longer scale length and are an octave lower which is basically the same range are a Mandocello.
Please also react to Thousandfold of Eluveitie. Lots of great flutes playing. ☺️👍
Eeeyy, Eluveitie, I haven't listened to them in a while, I love this song! If you want more hurdy gurdy going hard, take a look at this: ua-cam.com/video/MtvpXr9O0J4/v-deo.html
And you don't have to be a woman to think it's cool with women in rock and heavy metal.
Unus Annus!
Momento Mori!
Please react to kingdome come undone and calling the rain by eluveitie too!! The flute is stellar in those!!
crypta the other side of anger official video for some girl power
Alina Gingertail the best fluet on UA-cam
If you haven't already, check out Bloodywood-Aaj. I reckon the thumbnail will catch your attention 😁
Holaaaaa
Yup, super cool
Well done for your reaction and thank you.
My favorite band is Eluveitie (singer Fabienne Erni) who mixes celtic folk and heavy metal extremely well.

Wow, everything but the kitchen sink. Great band, great review
React to eluveitie -king
The growly shout singing just doesn't do it for me, makes just about every song with it unlistenable for me, sadly. I know it is a singing skill that is not simple to master without destroying your vocal cords, but it's an auditory experience I don't need in my life.
