    The ancient language they use is called Gaulish and it's a dead language. The male singer, Chrigel, actually collaborates with historians to develop their lyrics in Gaulish and make sure they are as accurate as possible.

    This is definitely one of their hardest, fastest songs. They have many slower songs and more "folk" sounding songs. Absolutely amazing band.

    Also, nor sure if you noticed but the male vocalist was playing a whistle.

    I have been to several Eluveitie's concerts, and they have all been great shows. A few years ago, they were touring with Epica (another awesome band that I seen many times and recommend checking out), but Epica had to drop out part of the tour because of some health issues in Simone's family. Instead of having short shows, Eluveitie doubled the length of their act with a second acoustic session playing all traditional folk songs. It was a very awesome show.

    • @cyberdan42
      @cyberdan42 3 роки тому

      You lucky bugger, an Eluveitie folk acoustic is way high on my bucket list, although given how much I love Epica the double show would have been flat out amazing as well. But have yet to see Eluveitie pure folk, and given I live in Australia and that live shows have been hugely curtailed by the pandemic, well it may be a while.

    As a few people already mentioned.... the hurdy gurdy player (Michalina Malisz) has her own UA-cam channel that you need to check out. She has tons of hurdy gurdy tutorials, full play-throughs, explanations etc. and she has this '5 riffs' series where she does 5 riffs from a particular band on the hurdy gurdy. She does riffs from Metallica, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, System of a Down, Lamb of God, Gojira, Slipknot, In Flames and her newest one released yesterday ----> 5 Rammstein riffs on hurdy gurdy ---> ua-cam.com/video/MEc7fT1TDbU/v-deo.html&ab_channel=MichalinaMalisz ..... You can't get any better of a close-up view and understanding of the gurdy than this!
    Fun fact: She was a fan of the band and had hurdy gurdy covers of their songs on her UA-cam channel prior to joining the band.... and when they needed a new gurdy player, that's how they found her and asked her to join the band. Someone else commented a better explanation below along w/ so much more information that hopefully you see!
    Before I forget: The band name is pronounced El - Vay - Tee (3 syllables)
    Also.... this band NEEDS to be reacted to LIVE. They do have some great music videos, like this one for Rebirth but they need to be experienced live. As a 9 piece band w/ all those traditional instruments, it's really wild. It's pretty amazing watching 3 ladies do epic hair windmills while playing the harp, violin and hurdy gurdy!! :)
    This is their best live concert on video ---> Eluveitie live | Rockpalast | 2019 ---> ua-cam.com/video/5T7Hdx3jYw8/v-deo.html&ab_channel=WDRRockpalast _____ It's extremely high quality audio and video and has been released as a live album. You can find the set list on the video and you can find many of the songs as single videos to react to, although make sure to pause a few times as they do get blocked if you don't. You can also just watch the full concert on that link together, even if you don't react to it, it will be well worth it! I would love to see you react to tracks 6, 7 and 8 from that concert (in one video), Artio, Epona and A Rose For Epona, a completely different experience like no other. Artio is just Fabienne singing acapella in Gaulish (with so much passion and power) and it gives me goosebumps every time, it's short, only about 3 min, so it's kind of like a lead-in into the next song Epona .... which is also sung by Fabienne and has a whole different 'fun' vibe to it that you will enjoy (people are moshing in the crowd w/ viking shields). Fabienne gets to show off her amazing vocal range on Epona as well, her highs are something else. Bagpipes are featured in Epona as well! :) Then, A Rose For Epona is just absolutely beautiful and Fabienne sings like the Goddess that she is!!!
    I've requested these 3 songs be reacted to in one reaction video (less than 12 min total) to many reactors over the last few years and get ignored every time :( *sigh*
    Artio ---> ua-cam.com/video/5T7Hdx3jYw8/v-deo.html
    Epona ---> ua-cam.com/video/5T7Hdx3jYw8/v-deo.html

    If you want more of a close-up on the hurdy-gurdy, I recommend checking out Michalina Malisz (the hurdy-gurdy player in Eluveitie) She does solo videos on UA-cam. Also, Anna Murphy (former vocalist and hurdy gurdy player from Eluveitie)

  • @chips7
    @chips7 3 роки тому +2

    If you are interessted in hearing the Hurdy Gurdy in it's full beauty, I'd recommend to check out Eluveities Hurdy Gurdy player Michalina Malisz. She has her own UA-cam channel with Hurdy Gurdy covers of Eluveitie songs and other metal bands.
    Also their singer Fabienne Erni has her own Channel where she shows how talented she is doing covers for her fans. (just search for the names, UA-cam seems not to like it's own links)
    Oh and for more reactions, I would like to recommend a special song with Eluveities former singer Anna Murphy. Eluveitie have also more folky albums with gorgeos ballads. And in my opinion one of the most underrated songs is Brictom. This one is played unplugged in a very intimate setting sung in gaulish (if I'm correct). --> Eluveitie Unplugged - Brictom

    Both Patty Gurdy and Michalina Malisz, who had been mentioned by others, have great channels with a lot of playthroughs, covers and original songs. But if you want a really short, yet informative, video about a hurdy-gurdy and how its sound is usually amplified, there is this video by Anna Murphy who introduces the instrument and a mixing board (she owns an acoustic version and one with electric amplification) and there is even a short excerpt from one of the songs by Cellar Darling - ua-cam.com/video/CDE3Bx1Cb1I/v-deo.html

  • @ralflukas9695
    @ralflukas9695 3 роки тому +5

    Great reaction Ladies. The flute is actually a whistle, Chrigel plays the tin whistle (the smaller one) and Matteo plays the larger low whistle in this video (he also plays the bagpipe in other songs). They also use mandola, harp and bodhran in this one. They produced two folk albums without any metal (Evocation I: The Arcane Dominion (with Anna) and Evocation II: Pantheon (with Fabienne)). Maybe you`d like to check out something from these? For example "Omnos" ua-cam.com/video/msRy4vcSX4k/v-deo.html , "Epona" ua-cam.com/video/4GXoafWv86M/v-deo.html or "Lugus" ua-cam.com/video/jMKykGYsmFY/v-deo.html .
    The Lineup change happened in 2016, when Anna Murphy (vocals/hurdy gurdy), Ivo Henzi (guitar) and Merlin Sutter (drums) left the band and founded "Cellar Darling". Maybe you'd like to check them out too.
    Now Eluveitie needed a new drummer and guitarist but for Anna they needed two new members for the hurdy gurdy and the female vocals. Chrigel found Fabienne Erni for the vocals and Michalina Malisz for the gurdy. In a Q&A for 60k subs on her channel Michalina explained how she joined the band. She uploaded several covers of Eluveitie songs on her channel in the past because they were her favourite band. One day she received a message from Christian Glanzmann on her Facebook telling her that he just browsed through her YT videos and found her amazing. First she thought that was a joke. But when they announced the split she realized that it would be meant seriously and replied to his message. After a few messages and phone calls with Chrigel he finally invited her to join the band. Here is that Q&A: ua-cam.com/video/X6zmZraewQY/v-deo.html. Please check out Michalinas Channel as she is doing really cool things with her instrument like the "Five Riffs" series where she plays riffs of famous metal bands (Gojira, Black Sabbath, Metallica, Slipknot and more) on the hurdy gurdy. She did an amazing cover of "Martyr" form August Burns Red: ua-cam.com/video/Mvs39ZeQjq4/v-deo.html
    There is another interesting video of an interview with Chrigel and Fabienne with vocal coach Beth Roars for her podcast "Good Job" ua-cam.com/video/y14pAyoAiIM/v-deo.html. It is half an hour long and they speak about the band, the language of the old Celts (Gaulish) and how they both came to music (Fabienne sang at weddings first and never imagined to end up in a metal band). There is also a short explanation of how the hurdy gurdy works.
    Oh, please check out Illumishade, the side-project of Fabienne Erni and guitarist Jonas Wolf.

      Good lord, this is the perfect comment. Eluveitie has been my favorite band over the last few years and I came here to comment most of this myself, but you already did it... and very well. Hopefully they see it! Michalina just put out a new video yesterday too.... '5 Ramstein riffs played on hurdy gurdy" which they would love!

    • @ralflukas9695
      @ralflukas9695 3 роки тому +1

      @@xSOILBORNx Thanks for the praise, but usually I am commenting even more info to first reactors :-). In this case Ari was already informed by one of their patreons and I thought I'm keeping it a bit shorter ;-).
      I am a fan since 2008 when I heard them the first time and i loved the power of this combination of death metal and celtic folk. They are a fantastic band and i was sad when their violinist Meri Tadic left in 2013, because I love the song "Dessumiis Luge" ua-cam.com/video/6cbOA0QyaC0/v-deo.html from Evocation I (there was a limited edition with a drinking horn which I ordered, of course). The song is a curse of helvetic women against some roman leaders and was written by Meri and Anna. Too bad that I don't speak Gaulish, but I have planned to get this book Chrigel mentioned in the interview so I could try to learn some, though I don't know the title of the book nor the name of the author. I just assume there are not that many books about the Gaulish language and it is maybe not too hard to find.
      I was devastated when Anna, Merlin and Ivo left. I thought this is the end of my favourite band now. But luckily Chrigel found really good replacements and when I first heard the new line-up I was happy again. I've seen them live at Summerbreeze festival in 2012 with Anna, Meri, Ivo an Merlin for the first time and at Wacken 2019 with the new members. Unfortunately they had to shorten this show. I am really curious if they had planned to do some of their accoustic stuff too but the approaching of a heavy thunderstorm ended their show early and the organizers of Wacken advised everyone to get to the safety of the cars to prevent getting hit by lightning bolts. I hope I can see them live again some day when this pandemic is over and authorities allow concerts again.
      Oh god, I just realized how long this answer is already, sorry but when it comes to this band enthusiasm just takes me away sometimes and I hardly can stop talking about them.
      Just one thing: I have already checked out Michalinas new "5 Riffs" post and she did great with these Rammstein riffs.

    The cauldron reference means many things druids use the term cauldrons as away to explain the meaning of life and the knowledge that comes with spirituality. As a needs of saying the ways of life can never be too full. In The Gaulish was Sucellas was said to have a cauldron as well as a mallet A Gaulish Celtic God who also shares A Gael Celtic Counter part who goes by Dagda, Dagda also is said to be of a Counter part for Trananis another Gaulish Celtic deity Spoken by another Celtic Tribe of Gallia. Antumnos Gate is what gauls believed is the cross over realm between life , death, & reincarnation realm in Irish & Scottish stories it is known as the other world. So when a Fallen Gaulish warrior died in the hands of Rome. He looked at his own reflection in a deep void not being able to understand he is Dead. Recognize I did not nor did I comprehend. Then it goes back to The knowledge of our people and The Gaulish God Sucellas or Dagda known as the good God the one who can bring back the dead in between the world's let the dark sweep over me mighty cauldron oh Nidus, Nidus is a place of events where everything is chaos also used as a term for population of bacteria or a surrounding of a army so they surrender all to thee meaning they surrender to their God's and goddesses for help as a cry out as well as surrendering to The Roman empire just to survive. You get a dislike for mispronouncing Celtic. The people, music,etc is a hard C like a K. Soft c is reserved for sports teams. I HATE when someone uses the soft C to refer to the music, etc. It aggravates the hell out of me.
