no, the devs clearly state that they were inspired by especially city of seville and many christian elements. the goat boss laying on the arms of the woman is for example famous Pietà by Michelangelo. The supposed "Glass Knight" is also from a famous paiting Procession of Flagellants by Francisco Goya. if anything, Dark Souls burrowed a lot from Christianity for its concepts. So please, at least read their kickstarter next time, devs clearly state all of their inspirations.
Sofia Fabritchny honestly Idk why I didn't mention castlevania tbh thanks for reminding (It'd be nice if this takes the combat if Symphony of the night)
No, it's not a 16 bit Dark Souls. Dark Souls didn't invented dark fantasy, didn't invented hard combat. The gameplay is not like Dark Souls, it's a fucking metroidvania taking inspiration in religious elements and the Holy Week in Sevilla. I'm so fucking tired of everything being a "Soulslike". Don't get me wrong, I love Dark Souls, but the fandom is getting quite annoying seeing Dark Souls in every fucking dark fantasy game.
Salt and sanctuary and hollow knights are, at best, metroidvanias which remind me of Castlevania: SOTN, sure they take some elements from Dark Souls but are not quite the same.. Darkest dungeon has nothing to do with Dark Souls for obvious reasons.
Hey Mitch! About the spanish culture and folklore; the pointed helm of the protagonist is most certainly based on a religious tradition from Spain. The pointed hat/mask is called a capirote and is worn by flaggelants. It is a symbol of pentitence and is worn is public to penitent for ones sins. It also strikes a remarkable resemblence to the KKK but as the dev team is spanish, hence it must be a capirote.
Also, a message to everyone: i REALLY suggest you all to play their previous 2 games called "The Last Door" , both season 1 & 2. They're without a doubt the best point & click adventures i've ever seen when it comes to horror, and they are also a damn good representation of Lovecraftian/Edgar Allan Poe style atmospheres..10/10 (even on Steam they're one of those few games rated as "overwhelmingly positive)
The metroidvania genre draws me to Dark Souls, and my suggestion for you is Axiom Verge, it's tough and more metroid then souls but it has many weapons, great boss fights, engaging but not in your face plot, and a kickass sound track . Axiom Verge is a must play
I LOVE THIS KIND OF GAME , i'm so hyped and i want to play it now !!! Pixel art is the best way , i love this graph skill !!! And i wait EITR also , and all this kind of game , my euro-dollars are for you !
If this appeared back in the 80's or 90's, this would have been no. 1. Old school people (including me) will definitely buy this. Imagine Golden Axe, with this graphics. Awesome.
They don't need voice acting (current next stretch goal), it would be great to bring on literary consulting so that the story can be more cogent. We're not married to the story, we're married to the platform and the excellent concept art.
Mitch L, l wanted to ask of a lore video on Blacksmith Vamos from dark souls one. I know he's from a royal family, but nothing else, so if you could make a video on him that would be great!
Have you played DeadCells? Also, a game that looks like Hotline Miami, Party Hard. And, at last, but not least, Hollow Knight that's not gore at all, but an awesome metroidvania ^^
Nice video, just came across your channel. I've actually been keeping a close eye on Blasphemous as well. I initially heard about it from the Motion Twin team. If you haven't seen Dead Cells yet you definitely should check it out! It's also a Souls-like pixel game, however it's already out on Early Access. One of the most addictive games I've had the pleasure of playing recently.
The Last Door is a really good, lore filled point and click adventure. You should definitely check those games out. I trust this developer will make a great souls-like game. FromSoft may not have shown A DAMNED FUCKING THING at E3 this year, but this is cool.
This looks f***ing DOPE!!! I am very interested, thank you for bringing it to my/our attention. I know it's in the earliest state of development, but there are only two things I would bring to the Developer's attention. 1.) Seems lacking in enemy variety. An incredible amount of foes can only add to games like this, especially if a lot of them require different and innovative approaches and/or strategies. The more the merrier!!! 2.) I would love to see my characters gear progression, even more so if there is no character creation. I want to start with mismatched leather patchwork and light plate, to full plate and scalemail, and ending up with gnarly ass legendary gear and (hopefully) build/playstyle sets that look as different and chaotic as they are near game changing. Looking forward to seeing progression, different items and equipment, skills/spells, build variety, leveling mechanics, storyline, LORE!!!, multiple weapon types, the possibility of different playstyles, reasons why you would want to ng+, a little end game motivation, etc. Like I said, I know this is extremely early in development, but I can't wait to see this progress. I'm eagerly awaiting EITR, Death's Gambit, and Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, but this short teaser just threw it right up there with this. If the game has depth, choice, various optional content, profound length, "build" variety (for the hundredth time), good equipment variety, smart enemies, awe inspiring bosses, replayability, uniqueness, etc. I am ALL for this game and will keep a close eye on it. If I see those things I mentioned up top receive the care and dedication mechanisms like that deserve, I will have no problem supporting this IP and throwing some gold at it. This looks like a fun and incredible start. I only hope they take their time and don't rush. What's the old (I think) Miyamoto saying? "A great game will eventually be a great game, but a rushed disaster will always be a disaster." It also wouldn't hurt clarity and transparence with the community and backers. Pay attention to the feedback and be willing to take constructive criticism where it belongs. The potential fans and players just want a great game. Sure, ignore the trolls, but it's obvious that our gaming community is one of the most hardcore fanatics when it comes to our favorite interactive media. tl;dr: Looks sincerely awesome. Keep going and take as much time as you need. Listen to feedback, and devote your passion to a masterpiece! Sorry for the 7 chapters of comment. I'm just very eager and incredibly interested in seeing more. What an absolutely innovative and profoundly varied time we live in for Videogames! Never was it better to be a gamer! Gives me the chills bro.
1:38 the Pietà of Michelangelo, one of the most beautiful piece of art ever made by man, becomes a “bloodborne ripoff” in the eyes of an ignorant from the other side of the pond. Even Miyazaki honored that sculpture in bloodborne, using it’s artistic value to bring significance. Here in Italy we have a motto: “perle ai porci” it means pearls to the pigs, giving people something they will never comprehend and will just waste.
Either you have a very, VERY unusual and unique and fascinating voice... ...or your audio is a bit overdriven. It's still perfectly fine, nothing really worth complaining about, so I'm not complaining, just giving you a "production value advice" to get closer to the ideal. It's very subtle, but it's there, you can hear how the overdrive noise is making your voice kind of "raspy". I'll comment on the content of the video itself once I've gotten further than 10 seconds in, preferably when I've watched it whole :-D
the protagonist's sword is seemingly inspired by the Skullknight's sword from Berserk fictional-battle-omniverse.wikia.com/wiki/File:Skull_Knight_Berserk.png
Nobody expect Spanish inquisition! Also this game looks very interesting indeed. If anything, this game reminds me a lot of Castlevania SOTN instead of Dark Souls (though I understand that Souls series also taking inspirations from Castlevania too).
a gorey game you might like is a flash game called gyssosiat? I can't spell the name but it is a gorey, semisatanic, platformer. it might suit your fancy?
Hey if youve not checked out these indie games are quite souls-esc in many ways. First is Salt and Sanctuary which is essentially 2d dark souls with a comic graphic style. and hyper light drifter which has solid reactive gameplay like bloodborne and very similar world building elements to the soulsborne series. both worth a look
I love the story he says. lol. There is no story, just uncoverable lore.. DS is awesome but lets not pretend there is a story.. Its a theme based off of occult practise and blood worship.
1. you're talking about Bloodborne with the blood stuff, and 2. there is a story the chosen undead is sent to Lordran to take the place of Gwyn, has to overcome a bunch of demons and bosses and ends up either linking the fire or letting it die. That's a story
K. Pyle || Piano Videos Actually it's more of a premise, sure there is a mild convoluted story open for interpretation but there is little to no script in the entire game... But that is a part of its charm. To say it has a story is reaching though as it's very simply written. Awesome game though.
The character looks like a demented Dark Magician that said "Fuck black magic! GIVE ME A SWORD NOW!!!" And just started slaughtering all the other monsters in YGO.
it actually looks pretty good I wouldn't say it's souls like though just because it's difficult the word souls like can be used in pretty much any game now like skyrim or final fantasy
Goddamn this looks pretty cool, so much Berserk vibes from the aesthetics of the game. Would be so awesome if this game had the same online system as Dark Souls has with summons and invaders too but i think it will be single-player only. I personally love to explore this type of games with a friend but so many are single-player games that i rarely get the chance. Well anyways this game looks so cool that i might get it after all.
Does every dark souls UA-camr sound the same?
Pepe911 i feel like everyones trying to copy what vaatividya started.
Gee, sorry I happen to be from the same country as him and we sound similar.
Fair enough
I personally find the diction very relaxing and easy to pay attention to. Keep it up!
VaatVid Jr.!

You can't blame him for getting Laurence vibes from the beast in the statue's arms. I know its based on the Pietá but not everyone knows that.
I can't believe Michelangelo ripped off Bloodborne!
I know right?!
Those goddamn turtles! what's next? they steal his pizza?
actually Darks Souls main influence is Berserk
why the hell would you compare this to dark souls rather than Castlevania?
Apparently every game is the Dark Souls of *insert game genre here*
Because caatlevania is overrated garbage and isn't hard like souls
@@CrowofYharnam the average zoomer on display. Try playing a game before the year 2000 zoomzoom
The supposed release date is 2019 wtf I might have become a functional adult by then
have you?
so uh are you?

ocelot?
Mitch, check out Risk of Rain and Neon Chrome (Neon Chrome isn't 16 bit but it is similar to hotline miami).
game looks great but not because it's a "souls like" reminds me of the older edgy games from early mid 90s
except those aren't gory like this
The game looks good, but the Kickstarter campaign is a real turn off. Those things are so freaking toxic.
Jose Castlevania?
Sofia Fabritchny honestly Idk why I didn't mention castlevania tbh thanks for reminding (It'd be nice if this takes the combat if Symphony of the night)
Jose Especially Hydra from Shinobi, that boss still creeps me out to this day.... Very unsettling
No, it's not a 16 bit Dark Souls.
Dark Souls didn't invented dark fantasy, didn't invented hard combat.
The gameplay is not like Dark Souls, it's a fucking metroidvania taking inspiration in religious elements and the Holy Week in Sevilla.

Just because something apear in Ds doens't mean that is heavily inspired
Reminds me of Castlevania.
This is the only use of the Wilhelm Scream I've heard in the past 10 years that didn't piss me off. Perfectly placed, mate.
Beautiful looking game I hope it comes to fruition.
Looks awesome! Cannot wait for it to come out. =D
I just checked it out and I liked what I saw, I backed it. Thanks Mitch.
I also Got their other Game Lost Door and it's awesome. I got the phone version.
Hyper light drifter appealed to me as a souls fan. Thought it was really good, with a bunch of secrets and a great boss Rush mode
This looks really awesome, I'm pretty excited for this
if your looking for souls like indie games get salt and sanctuary, darkest dugeon and hollow knight
aidan mcgervey darkest dungeon is not even close to a dark souls game
fifa is a souls like because it features a bipedal humanoid capable of movement
aidan mcgervey minecraft is best soulslike game.
Salt and sanctuary is a great game
Salt and sanctuary and hollow knights are, at best, metroidvanias which remind me of Castlevania: SOTN, sure they take some elements from Dark Souls but are not quite the same..
Darkest dungeon has nothing to do with Dark Souls for obvious reasons.
it looks awesome! Thank you for let us know about it.
someone finally made a vid on blasphemous.sir, you deserve a fucking medal.
f***ing love this so much, already backed this project :P
salt n sanctuary is a great 2d souls like game if you haven't tried it yet and like souls its a must have

what were the songs used in this? I can't quite remember where I know them from and it's bugging the hell out of me.

seem like everyone here doesn't know this fact -.-
About the games?
yep, they think the creators are just some no name guys trying to make a soul-like game. :P
is there still a way to pledge after the period is over? caus i really want to donate and would like to receive alpha/beta insight into the project
this is siiick
Black Knight Sword
is a awesome platform game on PS3
That kind of game existed long before Dark Souls, one of the most I remember is Chakan.
The metroidvania genre draws me to Dark Souls, and my suggestion for you is Axiom Verge, it's tough and more metroid then souls but it has many weapons, great boss fights, engaging but not in your face plot, and a kickass sound track
. Axiom Verge is a must play

I LOVE THIS KIND OF GAME , i'm so hyped and i want to play it now !!!
Pixel art is the best way , i love this graph skill !!!
And i wait EITR also , and all this kind of game , my euro-dollars are for you !
The "Looking glass character" looks more like an abyss watcher honestly but that's just me.
If this appeared back in the 80's or 90's, this would have been no. 1. Old school people (including me) will definitely buy this. Imagine Golden Axe, with this graphics. Awesome.

Looks freaking gorgeous, pixel art all the way!
1:38 Laurence, The First Vicar , is that you ?
Mitch L, l wanted to ask of a lore video on Blacksmith Vamos from dark souls one. I know he's from a royal family, but nothing else, so if you could make a video on him that would be great!

Sounds really cool!
1:15 I am almost certain I can faintly hear a 350z going by his house in the background lol
I get that it's the mirror knight, but what's with the dunce cap?
I would totally buy this if it makes it to steam
I would play this for sure
When is the release date and what is the platform?

that headgear must make it difficult to get in and out of rooms
This looks amazing! If you want a dark indie hack 'n' slash game you could try out *Slain!*
When is it going to be released?
this plus "Death's Gambit" give me hope for Indie companies
what's that sword in the beginning, in the real game?
This looks f***ing DOPE!!! I am very interested, thank you for bringing it to my/our attention.

Do a lore video when this comes out in full.

check out Deaths gambit if you like Blasphemous
Amazing 16bit- witch's house
the protagonist's sword is seemingly inspired by the Skullknight's sword from Berserk fictional-battle-omniverse.wikia.com/wiki/File:Skull_Knight_Berserk.png
Have you played Salt and Sanctuary?
I really want to play it!
this games visual inspiration looks as if it is directly from the retro-style flash game "Gyossait"
Nobody expect Spanish inquisition! Also this game looks very interesting indeed. If anything, this game reminds me a lot of Castlevania SOTN instead of Dark Souls (though I understand that Souls series also taking inspirations from Castlevania too).
Death's Gambit looks to fit the bill.
I'm in love with this game
I paused the video to immediately buy it, thank you for this.
I’m invested now!!!!
0:49 goddamn right i wanna close the video and go to kickstarter to support them
no switch release until 2019? i will have totally forgotten about it by then
First thing that came to mind when watching this is Castlevania.
looks great

Well, when i see the trailer it first reminds me a mix of Souls and Castlevania
check out Eitr. It's been in development for ages though. can wait for that to come out.
Castlevania: Dark Symphony of the Souls.
gotta love it
reminds me of Chakan : the forever man , also a very difficult game
"Set in the savage land of Orthodoxia... churches outnumber people two-to-one..."
So it's not just 2D Dark Souls, but 2D Dark Souls with a fedora.
M'Lord
More like Berserk.
ShadowPa1adin holy shit this is so true
m'horrible fleshy abominations *tips coif*
berserk is just medieval fantasy, and the catholic church was strong in medieval times.
I though it was already on steam
I'll wait for this
Heh. I find it funny that there is a Paul Ashton out there somewhere. I know an Ashton Paul.
man i wish so many of these dark souls inspired indie games werent side scrollers. thats a genre that hasnt clicked with me since about 1998.
Can you still play the game on PS4 if you didn't pledge $25?
Dark Souls is not the only dark fantasy out there, so they probably drew inspiration from more things, knowingly or not
nice vídeo another DS 16 bits , the Sega Génesis chakan: the forever man
looks fucking great
The character looks like a demented Dark Magician that said "Fuck black magic! GIVE ME A SWORD NOW!!!" And just started slaughtering all the other monsters in YGO.
volgar the Viking take a ride on the obscure side
I'm only interested if it goes to the switch and the mobile phone too
1:38 I don't understand that statement. Was there a la pieta in dark souls or something?
bloodborne dlc. if anything this game stylistically is closer to bloodborne for me
it actually looks pretty good I wouldn't say it's souls like though just because it's difficult the word souls like can be used in pretty much any game now like skyrim or final fantasy
That's not looking glass knight with a dunce cap.
THAT'S AN ABYSS WATCHER FROM DS3.
Dude, have you played Darkest Dungeon?
