    Just had the plastic drive pulley replaced on our GTW525 after 22 months of operation. It destroyed itself at the motor drive shaft. Repaired under warranty but was really surprised that the main drive component in a "commercial quality" machine was made of plastic. We'll see how long the replacement lasts.

    I’ve had this washer for 2 weeks and run many various loads thru it. So far so good. Very impressed. It’s gotten everything I’ve washed very clean. Including dirty dog bedding. Everything comes out smelling very fresh. I went from a 18 year old front load Whirlpool Duet Sport to this GE. This washer is getting my laundry so much cleaner and fresher smelling, I’m very happy. It’s got a great warranty and I’m just hoping it lasts a long time. Yes it’s loud and makes different noises then I’m use to but it does a great job and that’s all I can ask for. I have a utility room so I don’t hear it anyway. I’m a happy customer so far.

      @@abross86 Yes I love it. Love that it does get everything so much cleaner and even the dog bedding comes out fresh smelling. Something that never happened in the front loader I had. It has gotten off balance a couple of times, but I feel mainly because I had bulky throws or blankets washing and not enough items to keep it balanced out. Never an issue with regular laundry. I’m very satisfied with my purchase and glad I made the choice I did. 😊

    The verticl sections on the agitator are designed to splash the water onto the clothes during the spray rinse. This has the best agitation I've seen on a modern washer. Their cheap washers have this same agitator and wash action along with the 20 minute spray rinse and spin on the normal eco. They've been this noisy since the 1990s, but my Hotpoint went strong for 13 years. As far as I know it's still working in the house I sold. My presnt cheap Hotpoint is noisy but works fine. For $429 if it still works after 4 years, I won't complain.

    I haven't used this washer for a while it's sitting in the basement. If I remember right it's fairly gentle on the clothing. I guess the thing is, if I want gentle on my clothing, I would put it on a gentle cycle. I don't need it to be gentle right up front.The thing I don't like, for certain, is it goes off balance real easy. I will stick with my Speed. I agree 100%. Slapping a commercial badge on a machine and throwing an extended warranty on it doesn't make it commercial.
      I haven't seen GE machines in the truck stops, Laundromats, or hotels in the area I live.
      What I have seen: Speed Queens, Maytags, and in the shower areas of some truck stops, the LG 3 series front loaders (such as the WM3600, WM3700, WM4000, and WashTower). If they're good enough for a truck stop, they're good enough for me.

    To get real hot water in a washer. I would think we might have to run the faucet in a nearby sink until it runs hot. Then turn on the washing machine AND maybe shut off the cold water faucet running to the washer ?

    • @mountainkimmie
      @mountainkimmie Рік тому +4

      Yes, you could do this if stuck with a washer that makes it necessary. I've spent way too much time thinking about ways to defeat the dumb-a$$ery imposed on washing machines these days. If I had the capital I'd start a business with hacks and add-ons to deal with these issues. My idea is a valve system that you attach to your hookups and then the washer supply hoses hook into the system. There would be a switch or valve that you could turn so that when you wanted untempered hot water in a machine that always insisted on tempering, you would just turn the valve and it would divert the cold water supply back to the hot so that the machine would only fill with hot no matter how much it tried to add cold water. It wouldn't be hard to do this without any fancy "system" (just put in a y with a valve), but my idea is that it would provide a neat, clean appearance and be very convenient to just reach up and pop the switch or valve over when you wanted that full hot wash. Then you could switch it back to "normal" for rinse or any time you wanted the regular wash with access to cold and warm temps. Might make a cool cottage industry item . . .I'd certainly buy such a thing if Lorraine Furniture sold it. Bonus for the Lorraine Furniture Logo on the product!

    • @LuckyCharms_4
      @LuckyCharms_4 6 місяців тому

      Dramm Heavy Duty shutoff valve. Use Y hose to cold and control temp thru faucet. Water temp on washer must be set to cold. With that said, turn off water when done as a precaution as this is not intended use of this valve. Never leave washer unattended when running. Use this hack at ur own risk.

    What's the point of having a spiral/corkscrew agitator if it goes back and forth instead of one way? I recently got the GE 4.8 cubic foot front loader with the vent fresh system and can tell you that, so far, it's the best machine I have ever owned. I previously had and LG front loader, 4.2 or 4.3 cf, but it threw an LE error on me, and my wife didn't want to wait to see if I'd be able to fix it. The same day the LG threw that error, I went to Lowes and bought the LG 5.0 top loader with an impeller and the matching dryer. The LG 5.0 with impeller is a joke! ABSOLUTELY no roll over at all. Lowes actually took the LG's back and we got the GE 4.8 front loader and matching dryer. My wife sent me an email at work last week stating that she loved the washer and the other day she restated that and said that it's probably the best washer that we've ever had. I would have to agree.

    • @terryb492

      Mainly because of how the older ones both had a larger higher power motors and the motor would spin in one direction for the agitation cycle and the other way for spin with the transmission doing the back n forth movement whereas nowadays the motor does the back n forth movement they did that since it's cheaper to manufacture and more energy efficient but you lose a lot in overall cleaning performance and reliability

    Not a bad rollover .. think the max fill water level could be higher.. I have a similar model thats as high as the water gets .. the bulky cycle doesn’t add anymore water.. Wish they made a better agitator it appears to look like a dual agitator .. it would have been a better rollover if the top had 4 upper fins to match the lower fins on the wash plate or made it dual action. The overall agitation can be rough on clothing with possible shredding could be a little gentler The suspension could be better . If it comes unbalanced its slow to correct the issue and bangs horribly and possibly damage the machine or walks away from the wall

I had a big yellow phone called it the "steelers" phone :) we also had them in the HVAC company I worked for.. I miss them. these motors are driven in such a way they sound labored even at low speeds and low troque.. was that bird tweet sound the washer? that rinse is like the 'ECO' cycle on my speedqueen.. IMO The few little upgrades done to this is not worth the near $500 premium over the current base hotpoint / GE washer.
    TBH I’m actually surprised mine has lasted this long. I’ve only had to replace the lid latch & a few weeks ago I cleaned the belt and pulleys as they’ve gotten greasy from the seeping gear case seal. Belt would slip bit to heavy loads when the spin cycle started causing the machine to soon quit as it’d think it’s unbalanced.

    • @gullreefclub
      @gullreefclub 2 місяці тому +2

      Tap means the temperature of your tap water which depending where you live can range from just above freezing in the winter to almost 80 in the summer. The Cold Water setting mixes tap water with hot water to bring the temperature to a set temperature (50 to 60 degree + or - depending on the manufacturer) Wash water below a certain temperature does not wash clothing or anything else for that matter. Personally I think a water temperature of about 60 to 75 degrees F washes my clothes the best and I am a heavy equipment and truck mechanic. I have a separate washing machine (25 year old Maytag for my work clothes and make a pre wash spray that I spray everything down with and treat really bad areas with a petroleum based hand cleaner and scrub the spots with a brush a little bit from both sides. I then fill my machine with warm water and homemade laundry soap my Grandmother taught me to make that works better than anything I have ever purchased at the store and let them soak for several hours and then wash them once and rinse them twice. This is silly . I thought the spiral agitator was going to corkscrew clothing on top down to the bottom and the upper portion going in one continuous corkscrew direction. They could've just put in a straight vane agitator if it was going to go back and forth. Its alright but think i would look at other models in the meantime. WHAT DID YOU SAY? $1,100 FOR THIS WASHER. Forget it. Id rather save more money for a washer with turbo wash or a front loader. Something other than this. At a laundromat this thing would hold up 9 months before problems would get started.
