Long experience ≠ better products so.. speed queen>whirlpool and maytag maytag is founded in 1893 yet to be defeated by 1998 company speed queen😂😂😂😂😂😂 Agree with you😂😂
I have owned the Maytag Commercial for about 4 years now and I wanted to correct some mis-information in the video as far as hot water so buyers can make an informed decision. The Maytag only TEMPERS the hot water on the normal cycle. It also only fills half way on normal and doesn’t fill a second time to rinse, it just sprays water as it spins. This normal cycle is like their eco cycle. All the other cycles does give you 100% hot water along with filling to the top and doing a true re-fill rinse cycle. I have owned it for years and have tested all of this. Again, you get 100% hot water in all but the normal cycle. I usually use the mixed or power wash cycles which are full function cycles. I have had no problems with mine in 4 plus years and the dual agitator is what sold me on it, it really gets dirty clothes clean. I highly recommend this washer.
I had a Maytag commercial. At the time I purchased the Maytag, it only had a one year warranty. The Maytag lasted exactly one year. Maytag would not fix the machine but luckily I bought an extended warranty from Home Depot and they couldn’t fix the machine so they gave us a full replacement cost coupon for a new machine of our choice. The Maytag cleaned well but broke beyond economical repair. Steer clear of the Maytag.
If you bought it at Home Depot it may not be a true _COMMERCIAL_ washer, but a _COMMERCIAL TECHNOLOGY_ machine. Home Depot doesn't carry the MVWP575GW reviewed here, but one of the Whirlpool clones that also include machines badged as _Amana, Roper, Conservator, Crosley...._

They were told that appliances would last longer with less "moving parts" - the BIG LIE. HEAT and MOISTURE are the enemies of printed circuit boards. And what do you unavoidably have in kitchens and laundry rooms? BOTH ENEMIES! Manufacturers made appliances more electronically complicated in response and also to meet ever increasing One World Government mandates for energy and water usage abd polution reduction. We now have washers with plastic gears that make mud out of 3 gallons if water instead of the 10-20 gallons deep waterw washers like these use. SPEED QUEEN washers are the ONLY truly heavy duty washer makers for home use. ALLIANCE - their renamed company builds virtually ALL BRANDS of commercial washers found in hotels and laundromats. A SQ front load washer is identical to the smaller machines cyo find in laundromats. Thus guy is a salesman trying to get you buy his high profit MAYTAG made if plastic parts identical to those of a cheap AMANA. The Speed Queen hasn't changed much since the 1960's. I have the Maytag commercial washer with the 5 year warranty. I have had it for 5 years. It has broken down 4 times since I have had it, About once a year. First time was the Water Pump, second time was the Actuator, third time was the wiring harness (break in wire that tech couldn't find so he replaced), forth time was the transmission. The transmission gave out right when the warranty expired. Each time a repair was needed it took at least 30 days to get it fixed. I'm now shopping for another washer. I figure I have a spare part of everything after the 5 year warranty, if I can still get the P575GW0 model. It's a sad deal......most washers are junk and your lucky to get 3 years out of them without problems. (Average 5 loads per week.) UPDATE: After doing some research, I ended up purchasing a Speed Queen TC5.
You did a great job with this video. Clear, concise, practical information. The graphic chart was a great addition for your talking points. I understand it was challenging for you to create, but that small addition sets your review apart from all the rest, in a good way. Thank you.
YOUR TIME IN EDITING WAS SO WELL SPENT!!!! As a teacher preparing lessons online, I totally sympathize!!! It does take a lot of time. So THANK YOU for doing this comparison....subscribed! My husband is a dairy farmer, so our Speed Queen gets quite a work out. Straight Hot Water all the way with our situation, and the clothes get clean!! The INSTALLERS told us SQ is the best for dependability, and we replaced the Maytag that was here when he was a kid. RIP.
Yesterday, I bought my third washer in five years. I purchased the Speed Queen, it is tried and true, the cost is three hundred more than you listed and the warranty is five years. I wanted a washer that didn't swing like clothes sitting in a hammock, with little water. I will have to wait and see how pleased I am. The reason I purchased the Speed Queen was recommendations from my washer repairman.
Yes - my dealer who worked AT maytag 30 yrs said just as many bad stories about Maytag. He said and I agree there are great machines on BOTH companies - and just as many typical shady things they do. My sister’s new Maytag was plasticky and ugly. Th SQ 2017 stinker hardly destroyed the company. Buy old school models of BOTH companies and all will be good!
Loved the side by side comparison! Just discovered your channel and can tell just from this first video that you and your channel are just what I've been looking for: a source of reliable information about laundry appliances from someone who really knows what they're talking about from personal experience and expertise.
being a Maytag dealer, I'd take his "comparisons" with a grain of salt. if the SQ still is using a Electro-mechanical timer and old style Transmission, I'd expect it to be far more reliable then the Whirlpool, (oops I mean Maytag ;) ;) )
My grandparents had a set from the 60s that they used until the early 2000s when they remodeled the laundry room. They DON'T make them that good anymore.
Fortunately, parts for your dryer are still readily available because they still make the dryer with a few minor changes - just look for ANY BRAND with that pull from the top lint screen. I'm afraid that other than a belt, parts for your washer are no longer made, but used ones might be. The timers are Repairable by the older, more experienced TECHNICIAN
@@Elementaliti Well, Speed Queen hasn't changed much and are durable. Whirlpool dryers with the tell-tale top rear mounted lint filter are still made under AMANA and other brands.
@@Jake-by9ly That's sad, Speed Queen used to be top tier. Did they just rest on their laurels and stop improving? The Maytag looks years ahead in development.
Thank you so much for this video Eugene! I have been waiting for it and the chart was super helpful! I am so glad I purchased the Maytag (after watching your videos) a few months ago - I truly love it!
I bought a Maytag commercial washer and dryer set. I’ve been extremely happy with them. Most times I come home from work caked in mud, grease, you name it. Blown away at how clean my work clothes get.
The Maytag commercial will be my next set. I think it comes really close, if not equal to old style cleaning. I watched an in-depth review of the guts of the Maytag and was pretty impressed at the build quality for a 2020s era washer. The dryer had better build quality as well. Thanks so much for all of your reviews as they made up my mind as to what I wanted to buy.

Speed Queen has extended the 10 year warranty until the end of the year as of this writing (nov 2019). Also the machines computer has a surge protector built into it according to the Salesman who I talked to.
Simple breakdown of the deciding factors. SQ5000: Last five years longer(transmission/general durability) IF the 2 control boards holdup which may be hard to replace in a few years as they are exclusive to the model. Maytag: Washes a little better, core repairs are easier and parts easier to acquire for DIYers. 10/5 warranty on the GW model is the one to buy if you choose Maytag. Cheaper. That's my take. I went through this and bought the Maytag and I'm about 2 years in now with no issues at all.
I have the speed queen tc5 and I love it. However alot of people don't know how to properly get stains out and blame the washer. Pre treating is the key for successful stain removal regardless of the washer
@@FredFlintstone21 I just use liquid detergent like I use for the washing machine. I don't like the lid turning off the fill cycle but my old Maytag don't do that only during the wash and spin cycle. I hate the thought of buying a new machine because they aren't real old school machines. The best old school machines is the 1990s Maytag machine. I will be looking for a used machine. 73
@@FredFlintstone21What has worked for me: Warm water, then rub Fels Naptha soap and work it in with a soft toothbrush. Let sit 15-30 min. If stain is older or complex, spray with Oxiclean Max Force-after Fels Naptha-and let sit overnight. Wash on WARM with an Oxiclean boosted detergent like All plus Oxi (this one has enzymes), add 1/4c Washing Soda to help detergent penetrate better. If garment could use disinfecting or is a towel/sheet, add 1-2 tbsp sodium percarbonate. Do not put in dryer until stain is gone. If it's an industrial mess like grease or chemicals, try making a paste of Lestoil plus Tide powder plus 70-90% rubbing alcohol. Rub on stain with toothbrush. After a couple of hours, spray with Max Force and let sit overnight. Launder per above instructions (WARM + washing soda).
Have the Speed Queen factory 15 miles away, and a friend who's dad works at the plant. We bought SQ to replace a Kenmore in 92, and it's still running fine! Though from the video the SQ looks overloaded. Overloaded machines don't spin the mix well.
Thank you so much for doing these videos! I have an older Speed Queen that I LOVE! When I needed to buy a washer for a rental unit last year I was going to buy another SQ... then I saw your reviews... so I bought something else. Glad they went back to the old design... but I brought my old one with me when I moved cross country this year. :-)
Update to my previous comment, one of local dealers had this TR5000WN 2019 model as an unused floor model in their showroom for 699.00. Sure beats waiting months and spending 1199.00 for the 2021 model which is identical. Sitting next to it was the matching dc5000wg dryer which was 649.00 instead of 1149.00. My dryer was working but pretty old so I figured I would get the matching set at those prices. They both work great.
I have been using 14 y/o Maytag ( bought new) for a five adult family and it has started to give issues.Ido my own repairs and I like that about my Maytag: diy friendly and parts are plentiful. This gave me a bettter way of shopping. Thanks
Thank you so much for doing the video I found it very informative and I'm happy to know that somebody is actually building washing machines at work again
It's just my opinion, but I think both washers are overloaded. Thank you for doing the video. I appreciate you showing the difference between the 2 agitators. I do however, think I will go with the speed Queen because we want to fix our own washer. No lid lock to replace. No water level sensor to go out and no water tempering sensor to go out. Miss my maytag wringer washer. Never broke down, ever
My parents bought an Amana washing machine and dryer back in 1999. I was 8 yrs old then. They still have both units to this date and still works like a charm. The only thing is , rust started to appear a year ago atop the tub area but other than that, it's a solid equipment.
By watching your video and other videos I just bought the maytag 575 and iam in love with it really worth the money I spend love it MAYTAG 575 number #1
I am happy with my AWN432 mechanical dial SQ. It cleans clothes as well as the DD Kenmore that the SQ replaced. I do miss the gentle cycle on the Kenmore, and the many wash level settings it had. If I were shopping for a new machine today, it would be the new classic SQ.
Nope, people buy so many things today to get the best performance and end up spending so much money on replacing them time and time again. Would much rather have the reliability and not have to buy a new washer every 5 years. With a quality detergent and good laundry routine (ie don’t let stains sit untreated for a week) the SQ will do a fine job.
Bought Speed Queen five years ago because I wanted something I could fix myself. I seriously doubt whether the Ohio fella in Lorain could repair the circuit boards. After a few years, circuit boards may not be available from the Benton Harbor people (Maytag). Not all of us are close to big cities like Cleveland to get parts either. Yeh and I supported a US built product.
This one is built in Ohio, I think that's what attracted me most to SQ, dials, no electronic parts. But honestly none of them last anymore, they build cheap garbage and call it smart, to attract nitwits who think smart is better. When the government starts reducing your electricity, they will just turn off your smart devices.
Thumbs up!! One more thing - if Speed Queen will not stand behind you A DEALER, why would they stand behind me in my house in Miami Florida? Didn't they stop selling to you because they didn't like your review of the 2018 machine? I can't support them even in recommendations until they apologize to you publicly, give you a machine, and re-instate your dealership! That is just plain baby-nonsense to say if you don't say what they want, you can't be a dealer. That is censorship by bullying. I can't accept that.
Totally agree with you here...it's one thing if SQ was The Only good option out there...but clearly, there's another good option, so SQs handling of their own screw up by removing anyone who criticized it, is complete BS. That's not how good business is done and I really hope they're paying a price for it as Eugene does a great job with helping his customers out.
@@johnberard330 Well in the business world, money talks. The consumers weren't happy with the new design so they stopped buy Speed Queen. In fact people that bought the new machines sent them back.
Thanks for sharing all of this... I've been trying to decide between these two, but now I am going to go with Maytag purely because the morality of the company is far superior to SpeedQueen's. They think people won't notice these things, but we do and they should definitely learn how to take constructive criticism, apologize, and be kinder in the future.
Great video... I opted to get the Speed Queen just because of the tap hot water available. I love it. I do wish the tank was larger than 3.2 cu ft, but I have no problem with the agitator. It's great. Also have no issue with the noise. Would recommend it!
@@angelred9490 We really do like our new Maytag machine.... One of the reasons we chose it is because of the better agitator.. One downside is that sometimes towels get pulled to the bottom and have to be Freed from the bottom of the agitator. The speed Queen's agitator is not as aggressive. Over all very happy.
Great video!👍. We just looked at both of these machines, and went with the SQ TC7. The deciding factors..washer was on sale, so we got it for the TC5 price, 7 year full factory parts and labor. SQ has a factory service tech in our area, and Maytag did not, so factory warranty and factory service was a big deal to us, especially in our current world of throw away/replace vs. old school service epair. Both MT and SQ were nice machines, either is a great choice. Check out factory service in your area before buying.
Absolutely! The only negative from my wife is there are times she wishes the tub was bigger, but we both agree, we would buy SQ again. The dryer kicks butt. Does this machine move some serious air. Way better than any HE model we ever owned. Of course, compare the two in person if you can.
My 1990 Maytag washer and dryer are still running great. I have replaced a few parts on the dryer but nothing has been done to the washer. These are the best appliances I have ever bought.
I called you in 2020 looking for a washer and dryer and unfortunately you didn’t have much at that time. I had to bite the bullet and bought the worst thing I’ve ever invested in in my life: Maytag bravos. I felt I had no choice, I had just moved into my apartment and I’m a single mom so laundry was building up quick. But I hate this thing so bad, that I think I’d pay someone to get it out of my home. I’m in lake county but I would still drive out there to buy something from you. And I had no idea you had a UA-cam channel! I’m subscribed now 😁
I love these washing machines and it’s really hard to get them in the UK 🇬🇧 you have to wait months and months before they get into the Britain in a Maytag machine broke I had a Maytag and it lasted me for nine years without breaking it was fantastic the clothes come out a lot cleaner
Thanks for the side by side comparison and you answered THE most important question for me...HOT WATER. I just got a GE washer that says "deep water wash", "deep rinse" and a "hot wash"...nope. It cheats on the hot wash, starts hot, you put your fingers in the water..ow ow ow...HOT, but as soon as you close the lid, it adds cold....wash temp was 92. We own an HVAC company and clothes are touching condensate lines from commercial buildings that can contain contaminates such as bacteria from Legionaire's Disease, deadly molds and even viruses...so HOT HOT HOT is necessary. Whites in this new GE machine, coffee stains still on my dish towels...same towels I've had for years, same soap, same bleach, same water, same coffee even...but wash agitation must be useless or lack of hot water...stains remain. Deep water is a joke...gigantic stainless tank...but haven't been able to use the top six inches for anything. It has an agitator, but can't use the top six inches of that either. I've tried a few work-arounds...nope. Machine going back. Probably will get the TC5 because I need the scalding hot water to wash work clothes, towels, sheets...and now, omg, my kitchen towels. Got to wondering if the GE could get skid marks out of undies...probably would leave that too. YECHHHH!!! Is there a work-around to fill the Maytag with scalding hot water??? BTW-Was born in Cleveland, lived in Avon Lake...in Lorain County! Now in Kansas. Thank YOU for this comparison!!!
I have an AWN542 that's about eight years old. It still performs flawlessly. I'm glad that Speed Queen has gone back to the older design with a transmission. But it's unfortunate that the TC5 has electronic controls. Analog switches on my older machine not only give me infinite control of the water level. But I can instantly rotate the cycle dial to extend the wash time (using the same tub of detergent), add another rinse, add another spin, or anything else I want to do. When my machine eventually dies, you can bet that I'll do whatever is necessary to repair it, before buying an electronically controlled washer that limits what I want to do.
Mister T That's exactly why I ended up with $450 of repairs hoping to keep my 30 yr old Kenmore, but it was lousy repair techs that made things worse to the extent it's now toast. It was one hellava fantastic washer..RIP:((
When I bought my house in 1998, the previous owners left behind a Kenmore washer that was made in 1977. I use it for over 10 years before moving it aside for a new front loader Samsung. The Kenmore still works. Only reason I switched is because the agitator is one violent beast. I prefer the tumbling action of a front loader.
@@mark98115 My grandmothers Kenmores from the late 70's were still going when mom sold the grandparents house in 2009. Of course being depression (Greatest) generation she maintained and took care of the washer and dryer. 30+ years and looked and worked like new.

I bought a 2018 Speed Queen TR3000. Worst machine I've ever had. The store I bought is from is working with me to replace (awesome) and I have been on the fence about these two. Tough decision. Leaning toward the Maytag. I am a geologist and get incredibly dirty out in the field. I need the performance. Thank you sooo much for preparing this video. I have been watching all your previous on these two, as well as the 2018 SQ (barf).
@@calebproductions5970 this one model of Maytag should not be confused or compared worth any other model of Maytag. I hope you realize that as well too.
I'm in geotechnical and the SQ TC5000 gets my field clothes cleaner than any machine I've had in the past twenty years. The dual action dasher is a gimmick, no real improvement over the fifty-five year old Kenmore Super-Roto-Swirl, but more moving parts to fail.
Good performance is important but reliability and repairability are super important to me. Paying 30% more for a washer that lasts twice as long is a no brainer. I like the quietness of the Maytag but not the electronically controlled everything. In my experience, finding circuit boards for older products is much harder than physical parts. The circuit boards also tend to be super expensive since there is little competition from third party manufacturers. Just my 2 cents.
@@dylanclay2741 no, awn, it's apparently the transmission which is no longer available even though the washer is 6 yrs old. Ballpark price for the part is almost 600, plus service, so not going there. Looking at Maytag or something else.

This is actually helpful to me. I was shopping for a washer yesterday and was so disgusted by the options that I told my husband to fix our old one. IMO, based on what you show, I would NOW buy the Maytag. But 20 years ago when I was washing baby diapers every other day, I would definitely have gone for the Speed Queen (I used to turn off the cold water supply to the washer, to force it to give me actually hot water).
Fix your old machine D,0N'T BUY MAYTAG!!!!!!!!! THEY DON'T FILL, THEY DON'T CLEAN. THEY CAN'T HANDLE BIG LOADS THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO. THE HAVE CONSTANT CONTROL PANEL ISSUES, THEY DON'T SPIN DRY WELL. THEY DON'T THOROUGHLY RINSE..... AND THE LIST GOES ON.
I am leaning toward getting that Maytag commercial to replace my 30 year old Maytag LA412 model. I really like the fact that it fills up with water. Your videos are must see for anyone doing research on washing machines. Very informative.
The speed queen offers actuall hot water not warm water and trust me even if you rig it in a way where no cold water comes in, the washer will just stop filling until it senses a cooler warm water temps again Unless you have 12 gallons of hot boiling water to manually pour into the tub
@@fargeeks - I was going to say that one could simply shut off the cold water and force the Maytag to input hot-only water. If it won't allow you to do that, then that's a game-changer.
Just purchased the Speed Queen and totally love it! Was going for a modern look since I was looking at the LG front loader and thanks to your reviews, I chose this route---I have always owned Maytag, however the look of the Maytag was too commercial looking. So I got the best of both worlds. Very pretty and extremely efficient. Wash sheets in 20 minutes and they came out clean: crisp white!
I’m trying to find out with the newer speed queen if you have any mold problems in your new machine you had it for a little while now appreciate if you could answer thank you.
On the SQ TC5000, can you start the fill up on one temperature setting and then switch midway? (For example, I don't want straight hot, but I want hotter than warm, so I want to start with the setting on hot and then midway, switch to warm.)
Rena Poppers yes you can switch midway only on heavy duty or perm press not on normal/eco. Or you could just close the cold water faucet a little bit and leave it
Washer tech for 36 years. May tag is a whirlpool. The electronic board 300.00 just for part and it won't last long. The seal that protects the bearing for gear case also won't last. You have to replace the gear case for another 300.00. Speed queen has no common issues and built in wisconsin. You couldn't give me a new maytag.
Chris since you know so much about the speed queens, if I were to buy one today, which model is the best to buy? I heard the TC model is the best but wanted to confirm before I go shopping.
@@petef.4361 basic models have mechanical timers which i prefer like my old maytag. I took it off a curb 20 years ago. Haven't ever fixed it. More expensive speed queen models have electronic so far holding up. Depends on your options. I like simple
@@chrisberg2202 I like simple too! So I will probably go for the TC model. Thanks for the reply, can't wait to get a washer that actually cleans my clothes. My current GE top load with agitator and the gas dryer both suck. Washer does not clean my clothes, it just swishes them around, and the dryer had to have it's control board replaced 2 months after I bought it. No GE's for me ever again!!!
The only thing that goes wrong with the two-piece agitator is that the agitator dogs can wear out causing the top spiral section not to rotate when the washer is agitating. Those parts only cost a couple of dollars and take about 10 minutes to install. That is not the reliability issue I have with Maytag though. The Maytag washers are actually re-branded Whirlpool vertical modular washers. The problem with this is the tub seal typically fails in 6 to 8 years letting water get into the top bearing of the gear case. What that means is during the spin cycle it will become Extremely Loud and eventually spit rusty gunky water on the ground under the washer. It has been my experience as a tech that you're going to get six to eight years out of the Maytag and probably 25 years out of the Speed Queen. I do agree that the two-piece agitator really does a better job. On the other hand 25 years for $1,000 is a better value than six to eight years for $700. If you're going to move in a couple of years and leave your washer and dryer behind for the new owner then by all means get the Maytag. If your washer is something you are going to take care of and keep for a long time then Speed Queen is definitely the better value.
The SQ tc5 is the best new washer on the market without a doubt, just don't stuff it full. Best suspension available, I've never had my SQ go out of balance or bang around ever in 12 years.
I got 7 years out of Speed Queen top loader. Bought it for $1200 about 12 years ago. Rusted out and started leaking water on the floor. Granted, it was used 7 days a week for a large family. I'm fine with the current Maytag top loader with an impeller. It was $685.
ok speed queen you did the right thing with the 2019 and fix it. now will you do the right thing and take lorain furniture and appliance back . that would be the right thing to do
Well who in this area sells the Speed Queen anyway? We would have purchased the Queen, but funds are not available for a 1k product right now...but if I had the available funds I'd be buying a Speed Queen for sure. We are in Amherst, Ohio.
Thanks for posting and sharing! I have the Speed Queen TR3 Model from 2018, and I strongly believe the agitator for Maytag is a whole lot better from what I see. The "AUGER" style from the Maytag seems to do more of a detailed mix of the clothing than the Speed Queen. The SQ seems to just leave the clothes floating on top without the agitator mixing it, I noticed that AFTER I bought this SQ model. And sometimes I still see some debris and dirt even after I do a wash, so for me this is very disappointing! Next time I buy ANY washer, I'm gonna make sure it has the AUGER type agitator. I used to own a Whirlpool washer (the first kind of model WITHOUT an agitator, just a tub) and boy, was it a joke! Sometimes it left the clothes soaking wet even after the wash had completely ended...I junked that sucker! Never cleaned also! I'm a part-time oil worker so I HAVE to use a top quality washer to clean my clothes. If I'm too oily when I come home, I either douse myself with my garden hose water outside using dishwashing soap and a large scrubber to clean myself and clothes with and toss in the washer after, or I sometimes strip down and use the washer if it's not that bad.
The front loaders are the most efficient and yet still do a large load such as comforters, the old top loaders were great and easy to repair! Now they complicate them and add sensors and circuit boards, very expensive to repair😱
All manufacturers are putting the "commercial" label on their machines and they are done in a couple years. Maytag included. Not so with Speed Queen. I do think that Speed Queen should update their agitator to some kind of dual action type. They would then have a killer washer. The electronic controls are so expensive and prone to failure in Whirlpools(Maytag} Maytags are just whirlpools dressed up like Maytags and nothing like the old Maytags. Whirlpools also frequently need motors, shifters, splutches and lid switches that retail at about $100 and use a cheap electric pump, again which needs replaced frequently. The $200 price difference is easily spent when you have 1 service call on the flimsy built Maytag(Whirlpool). Also you can get SQ on sale sometimes for $899.
Loved the side by side comparison and I feel your pain in making a decent video. They are deceptively difficult to put together a good looking video. You do an excellent job! Thanks for all of your hard work! I purchased the Maytag about a year ago after watching your videos. I groaned when I saw this new SQ unit because that is what I really wanted, old school, but not the TR5 model. I feel better knowing the Maytag edges out this new-old SQ. I have been very happy with the Maytag all but one nit... you cant fill the tub with lid open
This is a great video and you had me at Maytag until you mentioned the tempered hot water feature. WTH? I'm a big girl, Maytag. I can make my own decision on how hot, or not, I want to wash my whites in. Honestly, that's a deal breaker for me.
I had Maytag Commercial that lasted almost 5 years. Washer performance doesn’t matter if not working. Bought Speed Queen and was told I won’t be back to buy another washer.
Straight hot water cleans better. Also, water temp needs to be at 140° to kill the bacteria which causes smells & to remove grease base stains without additivities. Maygtag suspends the tub from springs which wear out quickly and results in balancing issues as the tub has no under tub support. Speed Queen has support under the tub with the springs attached to the bottom of the tub. The tub suspension isn't reliant on springs alone. I have a Maytag and STRONGLY hate it. I'd love to have a Speed Queen.
the availability of straight hot water in the Speed Queen is huge if you are washing cloth diapers! I was sold on the Maytag until I saw it tempers the water to 90 degrees. For cloth diapers you really want the hot water to be around 120 for best washing.
1:45 "...electronically controlled washing machine...that has all sorts of computer boards..." So, how much does any of that cost to replace and how often will it be replaced compared to the Speed Queen? My 36-year old Whirlpool has never had a problem with its non-electronic controls or lack of computer anything. A big, red X for the Maytag.
Thanks for all your work on another great review, we have ordered the Maytag in Canada and although we have to wait a month we think it is worth the wait.
More switches and sensors means more things to break. I'll take the Speed Queen.
I'm with you!
Long experience ≠ better products

speed queen>whirlpool and maytag
maytag is founded in 1893 yet to be defeated by 1998 company speed queen😂😂😂😂😂😂
Agree with you😂😂
I have owned the Maytag Commercial for about 4 years now and I wanted to correct some mis-information in the video as far as hot water so buyers can make an informed decision.
What did you buy as the replacement?
If you bought it at Home Depot it may not be a true _COMMERCIAL_ washer, but a _COMMERCIAL TECHNOLOGY_ machine.
Home Depot doesn't carry the MVWP575GW reviewed here, but one of the Whirlpool clones that also include machines badged as _Amana, Roper, Conservator, Crosley...._

(Average 5 loads per week.)
UPDATE:
After doing some research, I ended up purchasing a Speed Queen TC5.
This is the REAL reason to get a SQ, imo.
Great video. I clicked “like” when you said it took 8 hrs to make your comparison matrix. Great dedication.
You will come to really appreciate SQ -- I have had my w/d for 10 years and never a moment's trouble.
The last Maytag toploads I had quit in three years and company would not stand by them. I’ll take the speed queen!
I appreciate the side x side chart. So easy to take a pic and reference when reviewing washers. Thank you.

being a Maytag dealer, I'd take his "comparisons" with a grain of salt. if the SQ still is using a Electro-mechanical timer and old style Transmission, I'd expect it to be far more reliable then the Whirlpool, (oops I mean Maytag ;) ;) )
What about water level? I sometimes have a very small load. 0:11

@@susanhrivenbark8732 on my 2016 there are water levels. my s q beats the clothes to death. I'd go with the maytag for the agitator.
I am still enjoying the performance and reliability of my 1987 Sears Kenmore washer and gas dryer. 34 years old and still doing the job!

@@darthvader5300 If you're asking me, I don't know. It's long gone.
Speed Queen has extended the 10 year warranty until the end of the year as of this writing (nov 2019). Also the machines computer has a surge protector built into it according to the Salesman who I talked to.
Tammi Starks Thanks for the information!!! May I please know where you bought your washer?
Simple breakdown of the deciding factors. SQ5000: Last five years longer(transmission/general durability) IF the 2 control boards holdup which may be hard to replace in a few years as they are exclusive to the model. Maytag: Washes a little better, core repairs are easier and parts easier to acquire for DIYers. 10/5 warranty on the GW model is the one to buy if you choose Maytag. Cheaper. That's my take. I went through this and bought the Maytag and I'm about 2 years in now with no issues at all.

@@FredFlintstone21What has worked for me:
Warm water, then rub Fels Naptha soap and work it in with a soft toothbrush.

I'm glad that Speed
Queen has gone back to the older design with a transmission.
Thank you so very much for your absolutely fantastic review! I was in such a quandary after purchasing my brand new "wonderful" - (piece of junk) HE machines, and I just didn’t know what to do.....until I came across your fabulous video! I know it took you forever to make it, but if you only knew how helpful it is to those of us who are not savvy to all the new technology out there. I feel so much better after listening to you and I am extremely grateful to your excellent customer service ethic! ❤️
Yeah I would only buy the 2018 Speed Queen if I was washing delicates and using the HE technology.
I hope you realize that Maytag is no longer Maytag they are whirlpool and they are pieces of crap
I'd agree, but 6 yrs in, my sq is not working, so it's going to cost hundreds to fix it.....
Tara Miller that stinks. I guess you don’t have the 10 year warranty then. Hope it is reliable again once it’s fixed.
@@taramiller3236 do you have the TC5 or the TR series? I've had 0 issues with my TC5
@@dylanclay2741 no, awn, it's apparently the transmission which is no longer available even though the washer is 6 yrs old. Ballpark price for the part is almost 600, plus service, so not going there. Looking at Maytag or something else.
@@taramiller3236 never had first issue with mine . My grandma has had her SQ since 2004 and still works like brand new to this day. Maybe you just got a bad 1
I've owned my Speed Queen AWN432SP for 5 years. It has performed flawlessly, this machine is used everyday along with my speed Queen dryer.
I purchased the TC5 and couldn't be happier. It's as solidly built as a washer could be. The maytag in person felt cheaply made in my opinion
I am leaning toward getting that Maytag commercial to replace my 30 year old Maytag LA412 model. I really like the fact that it fills up with water. Your videos are must see for anyone doing research on washing machines. Very informative.
The speed queen offers actuall hot water not warm water and trust me even if you rig it in a way where no cold water comes in, the washer will just stop filling until it senses a cooler warm water temps again
Unless you have 12 gallons of hot boiling water to manually pour into the tub
@@fargeeks - I was going to say that one could simply shut off the cold water and force the Maytag to input hot-only water. If it won't allow you to do that, then that's a game-changer.
Speed queen all the wa
I have Speed Queen washer and dryer, it’s the best money can buy in my opinion, it does a great job, I wouldn’t have anything else
My Whirlpool has broken again and locked my clothes inside and before that my LG kept breaking so don't trivialize dependability of the Speed Queen
The lid should unlock in case of power failure, at least that's what I've seen with LG washers.
Or you could just close the cold water faucet a little bit and leave it
@@renapoppers2068 I do that too.
Looks like the Maytag went up in price since then. $850 on sale if you're lucky.
I own the Maytag Commercial and I liked the side by side comparison chart in this video.
I'm only here because I was a little boy in Lorain County (Columbia Station) until we moved to DC in 1967. Hello from over half a century!
I love this talent of making the comparisons. Thank you for your time.
Thanks for comparison very useful information to help us be more informed
ok speed queen you did the right thing with the 2019 and fix it. now will you do the right thing and take lorain furniture and appliance back . that would be the right thing to do
@Albert Carello the old 2004 maytag's were built a lot better then the 2019 speed queens. to bad whirlpool had to trash Maytag
The side by side comparison is AWESOME, thank you!!!!
This video what exactly what I’ve been looking for...thanks so much for taking the time!
I was hoping the Maytag had an old board in it, not a computer system.
Well I don't want any part of that. I would buy the Speed Queen.
Both are great. Either one can do a good job. Often water conditions are over looked.I have a water softener. Soft water does make a difference.
I'm happy to see maytag getting into old-school top loaders. The Maytag is flimsy when compared with the SQ. We went with the TC5000 for our new home.
We also got a 10 year warranty.
SQ! FOR THE WIN
OUR' MAYTAG BROKE IN A MONTH
HEAVY DUTY SQ, ARE THE BEST. WHO NEEDS A,WASHER BREAKING DOWN! 😣😣😤😤
update?
Still going strong as expected!
Smart choice!
thank you. you did a great job with this.
Great job thank you for your hard work and knowledge sharing
This is a great video and you had me at Maytag until you mentioned the tempered hot water feature. WTH? I'm a big girl, Maytag. I can make my own decision on how hot, or not, I want to wash my whites in. Honestly, that's a deal breaker for me.
I agree. What is the the logic of this?
@@234dilligaf Maybe cause the hot water wears out the components faster, causing the Maytags to break more often if they didn’t restrict it.
I had Maytag Commercial that lasted almost 5 years. Washer performance doesn’t matter if not working. Bought Speed Queen and was told I won’t be back to buy another washer.
This is true.
Speedqueen = built to last
Whirlpool/Maytag = built to last 6 months out side of your warranty end date.
Very clear and concise. Easy to make a choice.
Side by side chart was VERY helpful. Thanks for posting
Great Vid, Eugene. Just got a laundromat "on premise" speed queen set. Agitates twice as fast as the residential Speed Queen.
Which model?
I have the Maytag 575 and it does very well. I've put clothes in it thinking it wouldn't come clean but it has every time.
Christian Johnson how long have you had your maytag? I want to get one
I am going to get the Maytag. The only thing I wish it had was a stand alone water level knob with small, medium, large loads.
the availability of straight hot water in the Speed Queen is huge if you are washing cloth diapers! I was sold on the Maytag until I saw it tempers the water to 90 degrees. For cloth diapers you really want the hot water to be around 120 for best washing.
I think a Maytag tempers the water because they use plastic for the tub? That’s my conclusion after seeing the reviews. 🤷♀️
@@tangerinefusion1 That shouldn't have anything to do with it. Dishwashers have plastic tubs with heating elements.
In Japan we washed cloth diapers in cold water and it wasn't an issue. The only thing that could never clean our diapers were those stupid HE machines
@@annacbrown1986 cold? 🤢 you don’t see but somethings are still there.

@wdta ut you are correct sir I work on them for a living
My washer and dryer in an old house in the damp basement. Electronic controls don't last long. I wish I could find a decent priced old wringer washer.
