  • I was looking for a budget top load washing machine without any bells and whistles. I limited my search to reliable brands such as GE, Maytag, Whirlpool, and Kenmore. After reading positive reviews of the GE GTW335ASNWW, I was pretty sure I found exactly what I was looking for. Watch the video to see my demonstration and review!

    I dig your style bro. It was perfect for me as I just got the exact washer. You didn't BS on nonsense. You explained it simple and direct with a little humor. I worried about mine until I heard how yours ran the with same sound. Great job!

    WONDERFUL video! Thank you. I too just had to replace my 18 year old "simple" Kenmore and like you, looked for no bells and whistles and bought this one -I'm waiting for delivery later this afternoon. Between your video and another one, I was shocked at how it sounds - would have thought it was broken but thanks to you, I know what to expect. Thanks so much again! Awesome.

    I'm looking to purchase a new washer and I've been searching the internet for reviews, videos, etc. so that I make an informed decision. At this point, I am leaning toward the Maytag Commercial machine. Thanks for this video and your responses in the comments, very helpful. Also, kudos to you for always being so positive even when some viewers comments were negative! Says a lot about your character :)

      Thanks so much for watching and for your gracious comment, Neicourt! I just try and give my honest experience. So far, this GE washer has been great for me. A commercial machine would be more durable and deal with heavy use far better than a residential model - a better choice if you're willing to make the bigger up-front investment. Wishing you the best of luck on your purchase!

    I am happy with the base level GE top loader I bought in 2015. It is very quiet. Old fashioned mechanical controls. Lacks some features one might want, but it works well enough for me. I like being able to control the water level myself, and I can open the lid any time I want to. I wish GE had not discontinued it. Also still using Mom's 30 year old Kenmore. It is better built than anything today, and it has given me very few problems. They are often worth repairing.

      Thanks so much for commenting, Nick! I agree, the old school machines were definitely worth repairing and lasted much longer than the new fancy models seem to. It sounds strange, but the ability to open the lid during the wash is a huge convenience! Controlling the water level is also essential, the auto sensors just don't seem to get it right. Wishing you all the best with your washer, Nick, thanks again for watching!

    Only 15 years old??? I am replacing my 45 year old washing machine! But, mine was a gusher, not a dripper. When it failed, it failed spectacularly. I started disassembling and it got pretty serious. These things have to support a lot of water, I am impressed how old this one was without failing. Thanks for the review, I just want at least one good account before buying a new one, and you were that account.

This exact washer was delivered and set up by the Home Depot guys today. I am doing my first load right now and not yet familiar with the sounds it makes in different cycles....I loved my Sears Kenmore which lasted over 10 years and was afraid that I had made a bad decision purchasing this model number with that gear sound.....Anyways, the load seems to be done..Hope my clothes are clean.. I got a similar GE washer 3 years ago and so far it's been cleaning great. The noise was concerning at first, but my wife and I were relieved to find out that it was normal for a lot of brands to make the same agitation noise. After the first few weeks, we learned to basically tune it out for the most part and it hasn't been a problem since. I do of course run vinegar, baking soda and a small amount of bleach through my washer on the hottest water setting every once in a while which helps keep the machine clean and free of excessive soap buildup on the outside of the inner drum. Unless you buy a Bosch or Speed Queen branded machine, most washers are not made of the same quality they were 20-30 years ago and have cheaper Chinese made parts in them now. The features have improved, but the quality has gone down hill. I figured that if my GE machine last 7-10 years then I will try and invest in a Speed queen when this one needs replacing.

    • @JonathanBrowneMenzies
      @JonathanBrowneMenzies  Рік тому

      Hey Mark, I've had a similar experience...no problems despite the GE washer's loud agitation noise. Thanks for the bleach/baking soda/vinegar tip, I didn't know about that, and it sounds like smart preventative maintenance. Wishing you many more years of reliability with your GE washer and thanks so much for watching!

      @@JonathanBrowneMenziesBefore using the baking soda mixed with vinegar tip, please GOOGLE the effects of that combo. Yes, they cancel each other. So, use them separately to tackle different problems. Baking Soda is a gentle alkaline abrasive, while distilled vinegar is an acid. Bleach is a potent disinfectant that can remove odors from any washer. When in doubt, please invest in a well-established, affordable product designed to clean a washing machine like Afresh or Active; I've successfully used both.

    Never put detergent directly on clothes. Don't care what manufacturer's guidelines say. Most all other sources including people who do laundry everyday for years will tell you there's always the danger of staining clothes w/detergent. Always add detergent first. I have similar GE. Turn on and start cycle. Let some water enter. Lift lid and then add detergent so it'll distribute throughout water. (I use a paddle to stir it a bit.) THEN add clothes. I never use Precise Fill because you never get enough water to cover clothes. I always leave it on Deep Fill and Deep Clean and Max. That's the recommended way for you to control water level. I don't like leaving those things up to a machine that's 'telling' me I have enough water. I'll be the judge of that! :) Thanks for your video. Hope you're having luck w/your new machine.

    • @JonathanBrowneMenzies

      Thanks so much for watching, Jay! You make a great point, I'm going to start using your method from now on (let some water enter, lift and add detergent, then add clothes). I like your suggestion of using a paddle to stir it up. I haven't used Precise Fill and I definitely won't now. So far so good with the washer, I'm very happy with it. Crossing my fingers that it lasts, good luck with your washer too!

      Hi I read your comment I have the same washer machine same model. My question is just by doing what you mention does the water fills all the way up? I want the water level pass my clothes for better wash. I was wondering why the water level is not high enough. That’s why I got this machine thought it would do that. It cleans fine never tried bulky stuff like a comforter just hope the water level covers the rest of my laundry.

    • @jaylineff
      @jaylineff 3 роки тому +2

      @@808Blessed1 Hi, I add the detergent just as it starts filling up. Stir it in. Then let it fill up completely. After it stops filling, THEN I add clothes/whatever. The nature of these new machines is even when you use Max fill or Deep Clean (which is supposed to add 3 gal more water) IMO it's still not enough to completely cover what you're washing. Sadly, there've been occasions where I've actually had to add water to cover what I was washing. Alternative is not to do extra large loads and wash more often. That, to me, is counterproductive to what these machines are built for: High Efficiency and less water use. Well if you're washing more often, (a) you're using more water and (b) using more energy. Duh!

      You’re right. Putting detergent in after the clothes (on top) risks staining them, especially if it’s liquid because, well, it gets absorbed. Plus your clothes May not get fully submerged and if that happens, the soap won’t mix in with the water and suds won’t form. Putting detergent in before will ensure two things. 1)The detergent will mix with the water first THEN touch your clothing which won’t stain them. 2)the soap will make its way up to the top of the water and clean ALL your clothes as it gets there. if you use powder detergent, it won’t matter if you add it before or after (though it’s always better to add it before) if you use liquid detergent, absolutely add it before. You can also do what Jay said to do which is to let the washer fill with water for about 30 seconds, add detergent, let it dissolve (or mix it with a paddle) then add your clothes. Though if your machine requires sensing the load, you won’t be able to do that as the clothes and detergent need to be added before starting the cycle and the lid will lock

    This is the only washer I see you can completely control the water level. I watched videos on the other basic washers, that unless you have the water on completely full load mode, that the water sensor mode is very low like those high-efficiency washers where you don’t get enough water to barely saturate your clothes to create lather with the soap. I think I’m gonna get this GE washer where I get enough water to lather my clothes at any load setting.

    • @JonathanBrowneMenzies
      @JonathanBrowneMenzies  2 роки тому

      Hey Shereen, thanks for watching! I agree, enough water is really important. What's the point of having a high efficiency washer if you have to was the clothes twice because there's no lather? Over a year later and this washer is still running strong. Wishing you the best!

    • @BillofRights1951
      @BillofRights1951 2 роки тому +1

      Shereen PLEASE!!! Don't buy this model. It's terrible. GE's are made by Haier, a garbage Chinese company that makes low end products. I have this model and it's been nothing but trouble since I bought it. It just broke down again, today. This will most likely be the second control board to be replaced in this unit. It doesn't wash well, the highest water setting still never seems enough for a full load, and the normal speed is like gentle speed on old washers. It's not vigorous enough to really wash the dirt out. You'll need to stock up on laundry pre-treatment products and use them regularly. I have been complaining to my wife every time I use this abomination (she's lucky...for 40 years of marriage I've handled all laundry chores). Rather than fix it again, I cannot believe I'm dumping a three year old machine and will replace it with either a Speed Queen or Maytag Commercial. Don't make the mistake I did.

After 9 repairs for the same problems, Lowes is finally replacing it with a new one on our warranty plan thankfully. While the replacement plan is important on the machine because they seem to have still a lot of bad reviews with the same problems we had, the company that supplies it is a typical insurance company and really stinks. Hi Jonathan! I'm planning buying a 24 inch space maker top load washer dryer laundry center from GE. Hey YN, thanks so much for watching! So far my GE washer has been completely reliable and trouble free. The washer works well and definitely cleans my clothes better than the old washer I got rid of. I know this specific model has high marks for dependability. I think GE washers in general are good, but I would still research your specific model. Consumer Reports is a good place to start. Best of luck and enjoy your new washer!

      @@JonathanBrowneMenzies, @Y N, I would recommend the GE high-efficiency top load washer with the direct drive transmission. Yes, it's a lot more expensive than the basic GE washers, but it's a major investment. It's a high-quality built machine with a lot of bells and whistles, AND most important of all, it gets your clothes clean, and the matching dryer is the best one I've ever seen and known of. This isn't to put down the washer that you have, so please don't take this the wrong way Jonathan, it's just that me and my family had a bad experience with a " modern " GE belt-driven washer, so I couldn't recommend one of those. In the case of belt driven washers, the ones I'd recommend is the Speed Queen TC5 2019 model, or any used old-school belt-driven washer in amazing condition. Oh, and I should mention this, any old-school or modern washing machine with a direct drive transmission will be reliable no matter what, so try to keep that in mind👍. Anyway, stay safe, God Bless, and Godspeed🙏.

    My brother bought this one a few months ago. It does have its pros and cons. I don't like how it doesn't fill up all the way for large loads and comforters. It is also not good at getting pet hair off very well and some times white streaks are left on my clothes. I do like the speed cycle for when I need to wash a few items in a hurry. I found out the hard way that if you use softener, you have to have it on deep water rinse or the softener gets all gummed up in the dispenser and some will stay on the bottom of the tub. I don't like how you have to keep pushing pause to restart the washer everytime I need to open it. And you can push pause to unlock the lid at anytime. In my opinion I wouldn't buy this washer.

    I really don't understand why so many people suggested fixing an old washer rather than buying a new one. I wouldn't spend any money on a 15-year old machine no matter how good the brand is, because you are not going to get a washer that lasts life long no matter how good the brand is. Even if you fixed the leaking problem, you'll end up having another problem sooner than later. I am sure many of the problems people mentioned for this GE washer are caused by improper installation or usage. Washers are not rockets, so the technology is mature...

      Hey David, thanks so much for watching! I would only recommend fixing an old washer if the person is mechanically inclined and able to do the work themselves. In my area, appliance repair companies charge big money to make a house call. For me, it just made sense to get a brand new one.

      Hey Daniel, thanks so much for commenting! I agree, the Maytag was a great machine and probably would have lasted much longer if I had it fixed. Scrapping that old maytag was a huge mistake. A lot of people would pay good money for an old maytag even with the leak. Also, being a maytag, that leak would not have been very difficult to fix. Ever since speed queen ditched the 2017 model and started pushing the tr junk, there isn’t a single new washer I would buy atm, not even speed queen’s tc5 because of the electronic controls.
    That ge you got certainly looks like one of the better new washers on the market, but you could have saved $400+ if you went on craigslist or ebay and bought an old whirlpool direct drive that will last you 15+ years and do as good if not a better job cleaning.

      @@solarflea4115, The reason why these particular washers have problems with the gearbox and what not and going out prematurely is due to the fact that they're belt-driven. They don't make belt drive washing machines like they used to. Me and my family did not have a good experience with one, and we didn't waste no time having it returned. Old-school and modern washing machines with direct drive transmissions are going to be your best bet, trust me, I'm not just telling you what I think you want to hear, I'm being 100% honest.
